37 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2003 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 05/01/2006

One year into the ownership of the vehicle, while driving, the car would simple shut off. If you were moving at the time it would eventually come back on to the running position. If you happened to be at a stop sign or a light and the "stutter" would happen it would completely shut off then you would have to try and start the car again. It would turn over but sometimes it would take several tries to start the car again. This car was purchased in 2003 as a new car. Because of these instances of the car shutting off there have been two different accidents. Thank the lord none with any personal injuries. These occasions of the car shutting off became more and more prevalent, happening everyday almost all the time towards the end of the life of the car. The car is now not drivable because it literally caught on fire while driving it. It was towed home and there it sits. We are still paying on the vehicle and have to have full coverage on it.

38 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2003 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 03/12/2006

I recently filed odi # 10152516 (my 2003 Altima 2. 5 had stalled at a red light and cut out while I was driving on the freeway) and would like to update information: I took car to dealer and was told that they "found code p0335-cr pos sensor," so they replaced crank pos sensor. Nissan needs to do a recall for this problem so other owners won't need to suffer this dangerous problem.

39 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2003 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 03/12/2006

Car, a 2003 2. 5 s Altima, stalled while at red light. Check engine and check oil lights lit up. Car restarted after three attempts. Then, less than five minutes later, car severely jerked while driving 60 miles per hour. Car's heater was on at time. Felt like vapor lock, but it was too cold outside for that (40 degrees). Car did not have much acceleration. Had to pull of freeway.

40 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2002 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 03/09/2006

Gas door did not latch closed. Had repaired on 3/9/06. Now I have noticed several 2002 Nissan Altimas with the same problem. I contacted Nissan north America on 7/7/06 and was told that this defect was not in recall status, and I could therefore not be issue a refund for the repair. I began collecting plate numbers of Altimas with the same problem, I'm at number seven so far. I believe that the gas door not closing could be a safety issue and should be recalled. This defect is not exclusive to my car.

42 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2003 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 01/19/2005

At about 60,850 mileage - 850 miles after the warranty expired, my car started to stall while in motion and the engine light came on. After doing a lot of research and an engine diagnostic test, it was found that the crank position sensor was faulty. I went on the internet and found that Nissan had recalled 2002-2003 Nissan Altimas (alomst 75,000 of them) but only in canada. I need to know why they have not recalled these parts in America. This is a very serious situation. The car tends to shut off and lose all power while in motion. Myself being a commuter to and from work on highways, this is very dangerous. After speaking to the dealership, they stated that Nissan had put a bulletan out on this part stating that it was a common problem. Again, please advise me why this serious situation has not been corrected in America.

43 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2002 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 08/24/2003

"pure" gas smell in exhaust. . . . Vehicle fails to restarts after being driven short distances , turne off, and re-started. Has happened since I have purchased the vehicle. . . . Dealership/repair never finds any problems. This is the 5th time it has happened over a year. Car will not re-start, unless I wait 2-4 hours & try again. Dealership/service said may have something to do with where I purchase fuel. . . . But I fill up at several places through out the week. . . So I know that's not the problem.

44 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2001 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 06/22/2002

Vehicle is losing oil but shows no sign of leakage. Presently, it is unknown where oil is flowing to due to oil gauge reading below the full mark. While idling in park vehicle cuts off, when restarted it made a rattling noise and cut off again. Vehicle had 3 oil changes since December 2001. Service technician said that piston rings were put on too tightly. Consumer was asked to drive vehicle for 500 miles to see if the problem would correct by itself. Consumer also stated vehicle burns fuel quickly.

Had a gas leak in my drive way and called dealer and informed them of problem and they had it towed to shop for observation. Could not find leak. Had a second leak just yesterday 5 March 2003 and the service dept supervisor came to my location to check it out, he saw the leak and called to have it towed to the shop for observation. 46 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2001 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 08/18/2001

Like many others, my 2001 Nissan Altima with only 57,000 miles on it displayed a check engine soon light. This occurred while my wife was idling at a traffic light. It is not a failure but if not corrected could crack the engine block. The error code crossed to a misfire in cylinder #4. I have found an inordinate number of folks with the same problem with their 2000 Nissan Altima. Our warranty has expired and I was quoted $920 to fix this problem which appears to be the result of poor engineering design or mediocre materials used for the gasket. . Read more...
