36 Power Train problem of the 2016 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 10/11/2024

While driving on interstate 80 rpm started fluctuating as the mph started decreasing. I had to pull to the side of the freeway and drive at 5mph because that’s all it would let me do. Car had to be towed from colfax California to the aamco in auburn, California. Had to rent a car that cost me $609. I found out today that the transmission needs to be replaced and the cost will be $6949. 03.

37 Power Train problem of the 2013 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 10/08/2024

Unsafe to drive due to transmission not registering lower gears when at complete stop, takes full minute before gears accelerate. I have unexpectedly stalled in the middle of traffic and was almost rear ended. Going under the legal miles per hour on standard roads causing delays in traffic and potential fire risk due to overheating because of transmission issues. Potential harm to myself and others by causing collisions. Big o's in boise idaho (208) 996-1306 has confirmed it is unsafe to drive 10/29/2024. Appointment with Nissan dealership 10/30/2024 check engine light has failed to appear. The closure of a class action lawsuit over cvt transmission issues in vehicles like the 2013 Nissan Altima, without a recall, poses significant safety risks. Without a recall, critical transmission problems such as stalling, power loss, or erratic shifting remain unresolved for many drivers. Financial constraints may prevent owners from paying out-of-pocket for expensive repairs, leaving unsafe vehicles on the road. Unlike recalls, which require manufacturers to notify all affected owners and provide free repairs, lawsuits end without ongoing accountability, meaning these safety risks can persist indefinitely. Additionally, future owners, especially in the used car market, may be unaware of the defect, unknowingly operating cars with hidden risks. The lack of consistent resolution means thousands of vehicles with potentially faulty transmissions continue to pose dangers not only to their drivers but also to other road users. A recall would ensure that all affected vehicles are inspected and repaired, but without one, the burden unfairly shifts to owners, compromising road safety on a large scale.

40 Power Train problem of the 2017 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 09/29/2024

After coming to a complete stop at a stop light, the car fails to accelerate into the intersection. Its hesitation leaves you vulnerable in the intersection and could cause a head on collision or even a t-bone accident. I feel like driving this vehicle puts the lives of my family at risk. After reading all the very similar complaints I don't understand how Nissan hasn't issued a recall yet. Nissan is leaving themselves open to a wrongful death lawsuit. How can they let this issue continue unresolved?.

41 Power Train problem of the 2017 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 08/29/2024

When pushing on the gas from a stop for a red light, the car did not go. Instead, I get a check engine light solid on the dash. When I read the code for the light it registered as a p-0776. Come to find out, there is a TSB that covers this exact same issue. If there was a vehicle coming in the other direction, there could have been a fatality.

42 Power Train problem of the 2017 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 08/29/2024

When first buying the car last year Jul 20,2023 the check engine light was on and I didn’t know that I had 149,000 miles because it read as 75,000. Every once in a while, while driving the car wouldn’t accelerate while pressing the gas but I wasn’t sure what the problem was because it’s my first car and only happen like ever 3-5 months. September 2024 a little over a year of having the car while driving to work the car kept jerking and the rpm was rising but my speed wasn’t changing. Eventually I turned around to go back home because it wasn’t safe to drive. I pulled over and turned the car off on my way home because I seemed as if it was getting worse once. I tried turning the car back on to go home and it wouldn’t crank up. Also when at red lights or stop signs after I stop the car will not go I will be stuck unless I’m continuously pressing the gas. I lost my job because I don’t have a car to get to and from work nor any money to pay $5,100 for this ridiculous repair. It’s even impossible to find a cheap transmission and install it yourself because all of them are over $1000.

43 Power Train problem of the 2016 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 08/25/2024

The transmission failed in the middle of a traffic controlled intersection. I was almost hit a few times (flashers engaged). No motion was possible in either direction. Was later replaced at a cost of $6100 by a local transmission shop.

44 Power Train problem of the 2015 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 08/25/2024

I was using cruise control on the highway. My rpms started going up and down and my speed slowed. I took it off cruise control and the speed was irregular. The car responded slowly to my pressing the accelerator. My car started squealing and I pulled over on the turnpike. I tried to press the accelerator after I stopped but the car would not move. I was unsafe because my car was on the shoulder of a highway and it was 85 degrees. I was also unsafe because my speed was not consistent and there was traffic around me. Lastly, I had to wait an hour for a tow truck. Two mechanics confirmed that this is a cvt judder problem. There were no warning lamps and no signs of a problem before this occurred.

The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the transmission had failed. The contact stated that a transmission software update was performed, and the transmission fluid was flushed and refilled. The contact stated that after retrieving the vehicle, the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 97,000.

47 Power Train problem of the 2018 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 08/16/2024

I want formally lodge a complaint regarding a serious issue with a 2018 Nissan Altima that I purchased from a Nissan dealership on [xxx]. The vehicle, which had 107,000 miles at the time of purchase, has exhibited a critical failure. On [xxx], while I was accelerating to change lanes in rush hour traffic, the car began jerking and suddenly slowed down. This malfunction nearly resulted in a dangerous collision with an 18-wheeler and caused me to be run off the road. This incident could have been catastrophic, and it deeply concerns me, especially since this vehicle was intended for my daughter's commute to and from school. Following this, I had the car towed to the Nissan dealership and was informed that it requires a new transmission. I am shocked to learn that the cost to replace the transmission is $6,200. This is particularly distressing given that I purchased the car less than four months ago and was unaware of the known issues with the cvt transmission. It is unacceptable that vehicles with faulty transmissions are still being sold without adequate warning or extended warranties. Nissan should be required to provide clear disclaimers about potential transmission issues before a sale. The lack of transparency and the high cost of repairs are deeply troubling. Given the severity of this situation and the potential risks involved, I believe that Nissan should take immediate action to address these concerns. The warranty should be extended, and there should be clear warnings provided to potential buyers about the risks associated with the transmission. The current lack of empathy and action from Nissan is disappointing and unacceptable. I urge you to review this situation promptly and provide a satisfactory resolution. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

48 Power Train problem of the 2016 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 08/02/2024

After driving the vehicle for about an hour, when coming to a stop, the vehicle will not accelerate. Stepping in the acceleration pedal does nothing. No rpm increase, nothing. After 10 seconds the vehicle suddenly takes off. After angry drivers honk. The rpms rev up and will not decrease to normal. I am limited to 25 mph with very high rpms. Same thing repeats after every stop. The problem goes away intermittently after restarting the car. I've almost died trying to make turns in front of oncoming traffic when it will not accelerate.

49 Power Train problem of the 2016 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 07/26/2024

During normal operation of the vehicle the car suddenly would not accelerate or go faster than 12mph. The transmission failed without warning. I have filed a claim with the manufacturer.

50 Power Train problem of the 2016 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 07/23/2024

The contact owns a 2016 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that while his daughter was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle briefly accelerated independently, before returning to normal functionality. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the continuously variable transmission (cvt). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was 75,000.

51 Power Train problem of the 2020 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 07/23/2024

While accelerating from a complete stop, the car stalled with tires, powertrain, and steering wheel all locked. For 15 seconds, the steering wheel, tires, and car was unable to be manipulated. During acceleration, the speed was less than 15mph when it came to an abrupt stop. Another car behind me almost hit me when my car came to a stop. Car was just serviced for another warranty issue a few months ago by Nissan dealership.

52 Power Train problem of the 2021 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 07/18/2024

I am writing to formally lodge a complaint regarding a recurring transmission issue with my 2021 Nissan Altima. The car has been experiencing significant power loss while driving, which I am certain is linked to a malfunctioning cvt transmission system. Despite ensuring that the transmission fluid levels are correct, the problem persists. Recently, the car lost power while I was going at least 50 mph on a busy road, which is very dangerous. Additionally, I have come across numerous complaints from other owners of the same model experiencing similar transmission issues. This history of complaints indicates a widespread problem that poses a serious safety risk and warrants a recall. Although there is an extended warranty, I don’t think it is fair for others being out of warranty when this is a very known issue with all owners. A cvt should last way longer than 70,000 miles, and some owners even report issues as early as 25,000 miles. Some mechanics even tell all their Nissan customers about the cons of the cvt, so it is very well known to not be good. Nissan basically has a deadly issue on their hands. I kindly request a thorough investigation and appropriate action to resolve this matter. Thank you for your attention to this serious issue.

56 Power Train problem of the 2017 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 07/04/2024

My transmission went bad at 80,000 miles it is a 4 cylinder cvt and my car shudders when shifting and at random times when I press on the gas from a stop the car slowly rolls forward. My safety is at risk because if it happens when I'm turning onto a road or major road it can cause me to get hit because the accelerator doesn't work at random times. It is because my transmission is slipping. But I don't understand why because I have taken great care of my Nissan Altima. This issue needs to be fixed with Nissan before someone gets seriously injured or killed. The least Nissan could do is help pay for a new transmission.

57 Power Train problem of the 2024 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 06/30/2024

While driving vehicle down residential street at approximately 15 mph, vehicle all of a sudden made a long noise and began to shake. Per repair facility, a bolt in the transmission housing was not installed at manufacturing plant. The single bolt (should have been two bolts), sheared off, cause the drive shaft to drop into the catalytic converter. If I had been traveling on the highway at high speed the drive shaft dropping to the highway surface could have caused catastrophic accident. Peoria Nissan has component that failed drive shaft dropping out of drive train could have cause and accident with my vehicle and others manufacturer has been notified, they have inspected no warnings or symptoms prior to failure.

59 Power Train problem of the 2017 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 06/19/2024

Was driving and when we stopped and was ready to pull out the car wouldn’t move. The gas pedal was all the way to the floor after several seconds it shot across the road a then wouldn’t get above 20 mph. The rpm gauge shot all the way, pegged out. Drove for a few miles and pulled over. Turned the car off and then it took off just fine. Shortly afterwards it bogged down again and would get over 20mph again. Something needs to be fixed right away.

60 Power Train problem of the 2024 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 06/09/2024

This request is due to my concern that a possible manufacturing or other defect in the 2024 Nissan Altima’s steering and/or wheel mechanisms caused a sudden loss of steering control and resulted in a collision and serious injuries. The car was taken possession by national car rental. I am unsure if the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others, but it has been reported to the manufacturer (Nissan), my insurance company (state farm), and the car rental company (national). I don't think there were any warning lights. The following is what I experienced. I was driving, passengers were in the front and rear right seats. The car was in the right lane on [xxx] heading into an underpass when the Altima experienced a sudden jolt in the steering wheel with smoke coming out of the steering wheel; steering turned very stiff as if it had lost power and the car pulled to the right and off the road. I struggled to maintain control over the vehicle; nonetheless, given the narrow shoulder of the underpass and the sudden difficult steering, the car collided lengthwise along the passenger side against a cement barrier and metal guardrail. The front and back passenger-side airbags deployed, striking both passengers; rear seat passenger was seriously injured; driver and front passenger were bruised. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

61 Power Train problem of the 2017 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 06/07/2024

While driving the care for a minutes to an hour. While stopped at a light or stop sign, the car does not want to accelerate. It takes about 3 sec for the car to finally go. When it does finally moves the car takes off and the rpm goes all the way to about 5 or 6 then drops back down. I will have to pull over and turn the car. I guess it restarts it self and I am good to drive again until it happens again. No check engin light come on.

63 Power Train problem of the 2020 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 05/21/2024

Engine failed prematurly with less than 40k miles. All service was completed in a timely fashion. Nissan is taking a long time to get back to me with what next steps are. They are still investigating after 10 days. Pls help.

64 Power Train problem of the 2020 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 05/19/2024

Unpredictably vehicle acceleration is delayed by approximately 3-4 seconds. Car then proceeds to take off after transmission kicks in. I almost got hit by a semi during a left turn. And similar near miss incidents have occurred. Car also fails to accelerate in a predictable manner when needed rpm goes up but vehicle will stall/hesitate. The vehicle is under warranty and has been to the dealer 3 times. They will not perform any maintenance on the vehicle. Saying it needs to be replicated in person. The issue is not easily replicated, but when the issue presents itself, it poses a great safety risk to occupants in the vehicle and all drivers/pedestrians on the road around the vehicle. This seems to be a known issue by Nissan but they fail to implement a recall or any other corrective action. I can provide invoices/statements of work but will have to retrieve them from the dealer. I also have video evidence of the issues occurring. Dealer has seen the videos but refuses to repair, replace, or recompensate for the issues listed above off the videos alone.

65 Power Train problem of the 2017 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 05/17/2024

I own a 2017 Nissan Altima. This vehicle has been having similar issues that other owners have reported with the vehicle failing to accelerate after stopping or sitting ideal while running the and you go too take off, barely moves to a crawl even if the gas pedal is to the floor. It will also loose power (speed) without warning while driving. The vehicle will not register any warning lights when this occurs not even a check engine light comes on when this occurs. It does not register any issues in a diagnostic test to which one was completed by a Nissan dealer in lebanon PA. (moyer Nissan). Because of this the service advisor/mechanic indicated that they would be "guessing" as to what the issue was even though it is clearly a issue with the 2017 models; it hasn't been the first time I'm sure that someone came to that Nissan dealer with the same problems and knowing that the 2017 have complaints with cvt transmission. I'm no mechanic but I think it is a blatant disregard for human life if that they do not recall this vehicle or at the very least replace all equipment (transmission; throttle, pertaining to the accelerator) at no expense to the owner.

66 Power Train problem of the 2015 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 05/16/2024

Vehicle has problem accelerating after a stop, this doesn't flash codes and so dealer claims vehicle is okay to drive. . . Upon asking in forums this is a common issue relating to the step motor and has been replicated across various model years with varying mileage. This issue has been happening for approx the last 60k miles and the dealer cannot replicate.

67 Power Train problem of the 2016 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 05/14/2024

I was driving on the interstate highway when I realize that when I was trying to accelerate, the car was not starting to move forward anymore was not able to drive at proper speed on freeway . Prior to that, I realize my rpms was going up and down had to pull over on freeway shut my car off and let car cool down waited about 10 minutes with off and then restarted it and continue to go seem to be fine at that point but has happened a couple times to me already, driving at normal speed and then it seems like when it’s getting hotter that I would gradually wouldn’t be able to move at normal speed as I needed to be on the freeway. Rpms would eventually start jumping up a down again I end up bringing my car to a garage have transmission flushed and change screen filter, and oil cool filter still same result. It seems to feel very unsafe when driving on freeway!!!!.

68 Power Train problem of the 2018 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 05/03/2024

Car started acting strangely on the way to work one morning, rpms would jump all over, it started to jerk, judder, slow to accelerate. That evening it did the same a few minutes after driving it. Got it to a local trusted mechanic who test drive and ran an obd2 diagnostic check, which returned a p17f0 code. He told me it's serious cvt issues and referred me to the local Nissan dealership. The next day they called with the same diagnosis, cvt failure. Car was around 99,500 miles. The horrible extended warranty company I chose wouldn't honor it, said the car was fine. Nissan dealer argued that it was cvt failure and could cause a hazard. Nevertheless, I picked it up on 05/02. The next evening on the way home from work, in heavy traffic at 50 mph, it started lurching, crazy rpms, shuddering, going into neutral then back to d. As I was turning into a packing lot to stop, the cvt completely failed. The car wouldn't accelerate and left me at an almost stand-still in the middle of the left turn, as incoming traffic nearly crashed into me. A motorist helped push it into the parking lot, where it was towed back to Nissan. . . Where it still sits today with a shot cvt. Nissan refused to help or offer any goodwill assistance even though it nearly caused multiple collisions. The car has been maintained perfectly, with cvt service performed at 65k miles and another at 95k miles. Nhtsa should mark this issue as a safety hazard as a car that suddenly loses power puts families in danger. A modern car that can't even reach 100k miles before a major failure is pathetic. And Nissan having known about this issue for 10+ years (as made evident by the multiple lawsuits) should be held accountable. One day this massive cvt issue is going to seriously injure someone, or worse.

69 Power Train problem of the 2016 Nissan Altima
