39 Power Train problem of the 2015 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 12/01/2024

I purchased my 2015 Nissan Altima in July, 2022 with 56,530 miles on it. At this date it has approximately 71,500 miles on it. I have driven it 14,970 miles in 2. 5 years. On [xxx] I was driving home from thanksgiving in east brunswick, NJ to my home in south philadelphia on [xxx] in new jersey when my car suddenly began to have a slow down in ability to accelerate. I ended up pulling over after a moment of slowing down and not knowing what was happening. When I got to the break down lane, the car stalled. I ended up getting road side assistance to tow me to ward's automotive in mt. Laurel, NJ, where my family and I have brought cars for many years (we used to live in moorestown, NJ. Ward's ended up telling me the following Monday that my engine was "bad. " I have no idea how my engine died after only 71,500 miles on this car! I got oil changes on it every 5,000 miles. I did report to the dealership in December, 2022 that I was hearing weird noises coming from the right front side but they told me they heard nothing. What can I do??? I am still paying for this vehicle (approx. $3,100 left on loan). I did not purchase an extended warranty when I bought it used. I have learned my lesson, but I need help understanding what rights I have. I don't know if there is any manufacturer's warranty on the car. Please help me! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

42 Power Train problem of the 2007 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 11/21/2024

I drove my car to work that morning and it was running completely fine. When I went to lunch that same day after 5 mins of driving the car my cvt transmission slipped out of nowhere and lost all power completely while I was on a busy road with lots of traffic almost causing multiple accidents because it happened out of no where and I was unable to get my car off of the road due to having no power. The car gave me no warning signs that anything was wrong until it wouldnt move anymore.

44 Power Train problem of the 2016 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 11/16/2024

Car enters lymph mode, transmission failure car fails to move. Incident occurs randomly while driving on the highway placing driver and passengers at risk of being hit from behind. Nissan transmissions are notorious for transmission failures. This is the second Nissan Altima I have owned with the same transmission problem vehicle only has approximately 60,000 miles and already failing. No warning lights came on nor other indications of malfunction. Transmission has been serviced by Nissan oil and filter have been changed. Transmission is warranted for 100,000 miles or seven years. The vehicle is a 2016 and has just passed the warranty. Previous Altima transmission was warranted for 100,000 miles regardless of the number of years. This is the third time transmission has fallen into safe mode on the freeway.

45 Power Train problem of the 2016 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 11/05/2024

I opened complaint number 11539204 on 08/17/2023 concerning issues with the car stalling, delayed shifting and gear slippage. I had the transmission replaced with a new one on 08/18/2023 at tri-state Nissan winchester, va, and now I'm experincing the same issue with this new transmission. I was told that the warrenty for the enw transmission was only 12 months/12k miles. I paid over $5k for this new transmission and in a little more than 14 months, the same issues are being experienced. I was told Nissan changed their warranty on 07/2024 for their new transmissions to 36 months/36k miles. I called 1-800-Nissan-1 and got a case created, but they are not able to help in covering the cost to replace this 2nd transmission. There needs to be a recall on these Nissan's cvt.

46 Power Train problem of the 2013 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 10/23/2024

Power train gives out when car warms up. I’ve had fluids checked for the power train and everything was fine. When on high way power train would either jerk tremendously or just give out. It almost caused me to wreck one day ass there was a truck behind me who nearly avoided rear ending me because the car completely slowed down.

47 Power Train problem of the 2016 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 10/11/2024

While driving on interstate 80 rpm started fluctuating as the mph started decreasing. I had to pull to the side of the freeway and drive at 5mph because that’s all it would let me do. Car had to be towed from colfax California to the aamco in auburn, California. Had to rent a car that cost me $609. I found out today that the transmission needs to be replaced and the cost will be $6949. 03.

48 Power Train problem of the 2013 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 10/08/2024

Unsafe to drive due to transmission not registering lower gears when at complete stop, takes full minute before gears accelerate. I have unexpectedly stalled in the middle of traffic and was almost rear ended. Going under the legal miles per hour on standard roads causing delays in traffic and potential fire risk due to overheating because of transmission issues. Potential harm to myself and others by causing collisions. Big o's in boise idaho (208) 996-1306 has confirmed it is unsafe to drive 10/29/2024. Appointment with Nissan dealership 10/30/2024 check engine light has failed to appear. The closure of a class action lawsuit over cvt transmission issues in vehicles like the 2013 Nissan Altima, without a recall, poses significant safety risks. Without a recall, critical transmission problems such as stalling, power loss, or erratic shifting remain unresolved for many drivers. Financial constraints may prevent owners from paying out-of-pocket for expensive repairs, leaving unsafe vehicles on the road. Unlike recalls, which require manufacturers to notify all affected owners and provide free repairs, lawsuits end without ongoing accountability, meaning these safety risks can persist indefinitely. Additionally, future owners, especially in the used car market, may be unaware of the defect, unknowingly operating cars with hidden risks. The lack of consistent resolution means thousands of vehicles with potentially faulty transmissions continue to pose dangers not only to their drivers but also to other road users. A recall would ensure that all affected vehicles are inspected and repaired, but without one, the burden unfairly shifts to owners, compromising road safety on a large scale.

49 Power Train problem of the 2015 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 10/04/2024

The contact owns a 2015 Nissan Altima. The contact stated while driving 40 mph, the vehicle hesitated and failed to properly shift gear. 50 Power Train problem of the 2017 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 10/03/2024

Engine control unit failure.

51 Power Train problem of the 2017 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 09/29/2024

After coming to a complete stop at a stop light, the car fails to accelerate into the intersection. Its hesitation leaves you vulnerable in the intersection and could cause a head on collision or even a t-bone accident. I feel like driving this vehicle puts the lives of my family at risk. After reading all the very similar complaints I don't understand how Nissan hasn't issued a recall yet. Nissan is leaving themselves open to a wrongful death lawsuit. How can they let this issue continue unresolved?.

52 Power Train problem of the 2017 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 08/29/2024

When pushing on the gas from a stop for a red light, the car did not go. Instead, I get a check engine light solid on the dash. When I read the code for the light it registered as a p-0776. Come to find out, there is a TSB that covers this exact same issue. If there was a vehicle coming in the other direction, there could have been a fatality.

53 Power Train problem of the 2017 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 08/29/2024

When first buying the car last year Jul 20,2023 the check engine light was on and I didn’t know that I had 149,000 miles because it read as 75,000. Every once in a while, while driving the car wouldn’t accelerate while pressing the gas but I wasn’t sure what the problem was because it’s my first car and only happen like ever 3-5 months. September 2024 a little over a year of having the car while driving to work the car kept jerking and the rpm was rising but my speed wasn’t changing. Eventually I turned around to go back home because it wasn’t safe to drive. I pulled over and turned the car off on my way home because I seemed as if it was getting worse once. I tried turning the car back on to go home and it wouldn’t crank up. Also when at red lights or stop signs after I stop the car will not go I will be stuck unless I’m continuously pressing the gas. I lost my job because I don’t have a car to get to and from work nor any money to pay $5,100 for this ridiculous repair. It’s even impossible to find a cheap transmission and install it yourself because all of them are over $1000.

54 Power Train problem of the 2016 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 08/25/2024

The transmission failed in the middle of a traffic controlled intersection. I was almost hit a few times (flashers engaged). No motion was possible in either direction. Was later replaced at a cost of $6100 by a local transmission shop.

55 Power Train problem of the 2015 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 08/25/2024

I was using cruise control on the highway. My rpms started going up and down and my speed slowed. I took it off cruise control and the speed was irregular. The car responded slowly to my pressing the accelerator. My car started squealing and I pulled over on the turnpike. I tried to press the accelerator after I stopped but the car would not move. I was unsafe because my car was on the shoulder of a highway and it was 85 degrees. I was also unsafe because my speed was not consistent and there was traffic around me. Lastly, I had to wait an hour for a tow truck. Two mechanics confirmed that this is a cvt judder problem. There were no warning lamps and no signs of a problem before this occurred.

56 Power Train problem of the 2017 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 08/23/2024

Code has the transmission fluid pressure is bad.

57 Power Train problem of the 2017 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 08/22/2024

My cvt transmission has been replaced three times by Nissan. I am currently on the third cvt transmission and it has failed requiring a fourth cvt transmission replacement. I was in a few different situations each time the trasmission failed that were unsafe. I've been at intersections, trying to accelerate forward when the stop light turns green causing me to stop in the middle of intersections or accelerate slowly through the intersection which is very dangerous. I've been on the highway going normal highway speeds over 60mph when I would lose power and try to keep my speed and my car would stay in the 15mph - 40mph, having to turn my hazard lights on so other drivers know I'm having issues accelerating. The first time I took my car to the dealership, they could not recreate the issue after having my vehicle for 30 days. I received my car back and the engine light finally came on after some time and I immediately took my car to the dealership where they confirmed the cvt transmission was the issue.

58 Power Train problem of the 2017 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 08/17/2024

The contact owns a 2017 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that while depressing the accelerator pedal, the engine rpm increased; however, the vehicle would not properly accelerate. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the transmission had failed. The contact stated that a transmission software update was performed, and the transmission fluid was flushed and refilled. The contact stated that after retrieving the vehicle, the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 97,000.

59 Power Train problem of the 2018 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 08/16/2024

I want formally lodge a complaint regarding a serious issue with a 2018 Nissan Altima that I purchased from a Nissan dealership on [xxx]. The vehicle, which had 107,000 miles at the time of purchase, has exhibited a critical failure. On [xxx], while I was accelerating to change lanes in rush hour traffic, the car began jerking and suddenly slowed down. This malfunction nearly resulted in a dangerous collision with an 18-wheeler and caused me to be run off the road. This incident could have been catastrophic, and it deeply concerns me, especially since this vehicle was intended for my daughter's commute to and from school. Following this, I had the car towed to the Nissan dealership and was informed that it requires a new transmission. I am shocked to learn that the cost to replace the transmission is $6,200. This is particularly distressing given that I purchased the car less than four months ago and was unaware of the known issues with the cvt transmission. It is unacceptable that vehicles with faulty transmissions are still being sold without adequate warning or extended warranties. Nissan should be required to provide clear disclaimers about potential transmission issues before a sale. The lack of transparency and the high cost of repairs are deeply troubling. Given the severity of this situation and the potential risks involved, I believe that Nissan should take immediate action to address these concerns. The warranty should be extended, and there should be clear warnings provided to potential buyers about the risks associated with the transmission. The current lack of empathy and action from Nissan is disappointing and unacceptable. I urge you to review this situation promptly and provide a satisfactory resolution. 60 Power Train problem of the 2016 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 08/02/2024

After driving the vehicle for about an hour, when coming to a stop, the vehicle will not accelerate. Stepping in the acceleration pedal does nothing. No rpm increase, nothing. After 10 seconds the vehicle suddenly takes off. After angry drivers honk. The rpms rev up and will not decrease to normal. I am limited to 25 mph with very high rpms. Same thing repeats after every stop. The problem goes away intermittently after restarting the car. I've almost died trying to make turns in front of oncoming traffic when it will not accelerate.

61 Power Train problem of the 2016 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 07/26/2024

During normal operation of the vehicle the car suddenly would not accelerate or go faster than 12mph. The transmission failed without warning. I have filed a claim with the manufacturer.

62 Power Train problem of the 2016 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 07/23/2024

The contact owns a 2016 Nissan Altima. 63 Power Train problem of the 2020 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 07/23/2024

While accelerating from a complete stop, the car stalled with tires, powertrain, and steering wheel all locked. For 15 seconds, the steering wheel, tires, and car was unable to be manipulated. During acceleration, the speed was less than 15mph when it came to an abrupt stop. Another car behind me almost hit me when my car came to a stop. Car was just serviced for another warranty issue a few months ago by Nissan dealership.

64 Power Train problem of the 2021 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 07/18/2024

I am writing to formally lodge a complaint regarding a recurring transmission issue with my 2021 Nissan Altima. The car has been experiencing significant power loss while driving, which I am certain is linked to a malfunctioning cvt transmission system. Despite ensuring that the transmission fluid levels are correct, the problem persists. Recently, the car lost power while I was going at least 50 mph on a busy road, which is very dangerous. Additionally, I have come across numerous complaints from other owners of the same model experiencing similar transmission issues. This history of complaints indicates a widespread problem that poses a serious safety risk and warrants a recall. Although there is an extended warranty, I don’t think it is fair for others being out of warranty when this is a very known issue with all owners. A cvt should last way longer than 70,000 miles, and some owners even report issues as early as 25,000 miles. Some mechanics even tell all their Nissan customers about the cons of the cvt, so it is very well known to not be good. Nissan basically has a deadly issue on their hands. I kindly request a thorough investigation and appropriate action to resolve this matter. Thank you for your attention to this serious issue.

68 Power Train problem of the 2017 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 07/04/2024

My transmission went bad at 80,000 miles it is a 4 cylinder cvt and my car shudders when shifting and at random times when I press on the gas from a stop the car slowly rolls forward. My safety is at risk because if it happens when I'm turning onto a road or major road it can cause me to get hit because the accelerator doesn't work at random times. It is because my transmission is slipping. But I don't understand why because I have taken great care of my Nissan Altima. This issue needs to be fixed with Nissan before someone gets seriously injured or killed. The least Nissan could do is help pay for a new transmission.

69 Power Train problem of the 2024 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 06/30/2024

While driving vehicle down residential street at approximately 15 mph, vehicle all of a sudden made a long noise and began to shake. Per repair facility, a bolt in the transmission housing was not installed at manufacturing plant. The single bolt (should have been two bolts), sheared off, cause the drive shaft to drop into the catalytic converter. If I had been traveling on the highway at high speed the drive shaft dropping to the highway surface could have caused catastrophic accident. Peoria Nissan has component that failed drive shaft dropping out of drive train could have cause and accident with my vehicle and others manufacturer has been notified, they have inspected no warnings or symptoms prior to failure.
