I am experiencing an issue with the airbag light on my 2017 Nissan Altima s model, which is showing code b0020. This airbag code indicates a problem with the passenger side airbag system, typically caused by damaged wiring, a malfunctioning seat sensor, or a loose connector beneath the driver's seat. The repair quote from my local Nissan dealership ranges from $1728 to $3500, depending on the faulty components and the labor required for installation. This is a recognized problem for Nissan, and their failure to address it raises significant concerns regarding safety. Currently, I am uncertain about how to proceed with the repair due to the high costs involved.

Rear seatbelt sensors in my 2024 Nissan Altima repeatedly beep and show an unbuckled warning, even when the back seat is unoccupied and with zero belongings. This started around 2 months ago. This causes a distraction while driving and may indicate a malfunctioning occupant detection system.

A tractor trailer hit my vehicle from behind/driver side rear in snowy road conditions and then jackknifed causing my vehicle to spin out of control across the interstate. My 2 children were in the backseat, my [xxx] son driver side rear & [xxx] daughter passenger rear. My husband was in front passenger seat. No air bags deployed, the vehicle was a total loss, we almost got killed. The impact was mainly on the driver side rear where the initial impact happened & my son’s seat was pushed up & completely detached from the rest of the vehicle and yet his srs side airbag never deployed. Please see images below of the air bags not deploying . If that tractor trailer hit us 2 inches different, my son would be dead right now. There were injuries and we were seen by ems on scene & then the hospital later. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Drivers side seat heater switch caught fire and burned winter jacket sleeve. Fire was extinguished before car was lost.
The contact owns a 2021 Nissan Altima. The contact stated while driving 45 mph, the brakes independently activated, and the rear of the vehicle fishtailed. The contact stated an unknown warning light showing an image of the rear of the vehicle was briefly illuminated. In addition, the contact stated that the driver's side front seat frame was fractured, and the seat was loose. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the brake failure was not duplicated. The contact was informed that the driver's side front seat rack was fractured and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle had been taken to several dealers; however, the brake failure was not duplicated. The contact was afraid to continue driving the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The contact was informed that the repair for the driver's side front seat rack was not covered under warranty or any special programs. The failure mileage was approximately 41,000.
In November 2023 vehicle had an airbag warning light, took to Nissan dealer. Inspected by Nissan service. Diagnostic and "repair" performed on driver side airbag. 8 months later in mid July -same airbag warning light came on. Needed an oil change in a few weeks and was not driving the vehicle due to out of town vacation. Took vehicle to the same Nissan dealership on 8/5/2024. Nissan again inspected and we were again charged for a diagnostic and told needed to fix by replacing the entire seat for $3000. When we asked the service manager why it wasn't fixed he stated perhaps the service in 2023 caused "corrosion" or a faulty airbag or faulty electrical. This is an internal issue inside the seat. Dealership would not help fix. Called Nissan corporate and filed a case. This vehicle has never had any accidents or damage. Half of the national average of mileage. Meticulously cared for and taken only to Nissan for oil changes. Never touched the seat . After owning this vehicle for less than 7 years it has 45,142 miles . Filed a report with bbb a week ago and have not had any response. Was hoping in good faith Nissan would do the honorable thing and replace this seat as this is our family car. We take our children. To school in it. Go to church in it. Drive to family for get together in it. Now we are worried that the airbag may randomly deploy, or not deploy at all. It is a huge safety concern. We are worried that there may be other 2017 Nissans out there with similar issues. And we cannot sell , as we would never want to put another family at risk . Bottom line , Nissan is being negligent. There is a vehicle that clearly has faulty manufacturing / parts - and they do not wish to do the right thing. We do not feel we should be responsible for something that is not our fault. We hope this can be investigated, as this is an extremely popular vehicle - and there may be many more families at risk. Thank you.

Air bag dash warning light came on. Brought to dealer. They"fixed". Light came back on few days later. Brought back to dealer. They said drivers side seat frame with air bag needs to be replaced. They ordered part & said 2 week wait. Called dealer back 2 weeks later & they said part not released by Nissan. Called Nissan consumer affairs. They informed me they have no eta when parts will be available/shipped. Been about 2 months since first contact with dealer & have no idea if/when will be repaired. See recalls on older Altima & am wondering if this is an issue Nissan is not addressing.

My airbag light has been illuminated for the past few months. It does not illuminate while someone is in the seat. Once reset, it stays off for a while. When checked, the mechanic informed me that the sensor in my passenger seat needs to be replaced. Due to this malfunction, the vehicle may improperly deploy airbags. This has not happened but I’m concerned that it could possibly happen.

Took vehicle to get an oil changed & was informed that air bag light was on. Driver side air bag light came on with no warning & noticed now that the air bag seems deployed in the seat. Shop inspected & reset computer but could not find issue.
I have a 2016 Nissan Altima s. The airbag light is on without accident. I went four times to the Nissan dealer to fix the problem. They just told me it was a past code (b0020-13), cleared it the first three times, and told me the problem was on the driver-side airbag. But after a few months, the airbag light was still on again. I was told the problem was on the passenger side the last time. Ask me to replace the airbag module and seat back; the parts cost $3110, and the labor is $2600. It is ridiculous. . . The airbag is the car safety system; the parts have never been used before, so it should be okay if there is no accident.
Occupant sensor for airbags is not working and airbag light is on, this is a safety issue which can cause loss of life in an accident this needs recalled immediately.
Good day, the airbags don't show as on when passengers sit. And the transmission is giving me more problems.
The drive seat warmer heats up even when the warmer button is off. Also the driver seat seems to be not bolted down correctly you can feel the seat trying to come up when turning and braking.
Yes. On 11/21/22 I took my client shopping it took 30 minutes to reach our destination. I unloaded her walker so she could enter the store while I parked my car. Upon parking the car I noticed two burn marks in the leather passenger seat that were not there previously and did not look any near what a cigarette burn would look like. Along with a bluish discoloration surrounding the burn marks including along seam closest to the burn marks. The heated seat function was being used at the time due to temps and clients age. 10. Minutes prior to arriving at our destination the passenger asked me to turn off the seat heater on her side, which I did. As I stated it was after I helped her out of the passenger seat and parked the car that I noticed the large burn marks and discoloration. This could have caught fire and severely burned my client and/or caught my entire car on fire which I need for my job and only source of income a layman would be under the assumption that these seat heater would automatically shut off if they reached a certain temp. Now I have a 6 year old vehicle (which I kept clean and in good working order with a damaged leather front passenger seat due to some wiring defect that was not my fault.
When adult sits in passenger seat, the passenger (air bag off)light is on. Which means the air bag is off and will not deploy in a accident. When a heavy weight adult sits in the seat, the light turns off. Sensor might be bad in seat. My wife is 140 lbs. Light stays on when she sits in the passenger seat .
The heating seat is not working, and the locking system within all doors is failing. Also, lane departure and steering assist is not aligning properly.

The passenger side air bag is faulty due to an interruption of signal between the OCS and the air bag control unit. This has been verified by an independent service center and puts passengers at risk. The airbag will not work without the entire seat being replaced. The airbag light shows that the system is “off”. This make and model had a recall issued but my VIN was not included but should have been included.

My car's airbag light came on and would not go off. I took it to the dealership and was told that the sensor in my passengar seat that detects the weight of some one in the seat is not working. Because of this sensor failing, my air bags will not deploy if the car is involved in an accident. It puts me at a safety risk because air bags will not provide protection to me or passengars riding in my vehicle if I am in a accident. This problem has been confirmed by the dealership. I don't know if the manufacter has inspected the issue or not. There were no other warning lights, messages, or other symptoms prior to this issue.
As appears to be the case with many other 2017 Nissan Altima drivers, the light indicating the passenger side air bag is off remains on even when adults are in the seat. When the dealership took a look at the issue, they said the occupant control sensor system required replacement, and quoted ~$1,000 to fix this issue. This is a cost we weren't able to bear, and so we have had to use the car with no functional passenger side airbags for several years. The OCS failed approximately 5 years after the car was purchased. For a safety-critical feature, it is concerning that there is no remedy for the public. This issue appears identical to the OCS problem identified in NHTSA campaign #16v-244 (reference #ntb16-054b) from August 25, 2016. It appears that the 2017 Nissan Altima was excluded from this recall, despite suffering the same manufacturing issues.
Both the driver and passenger side seat sensors do not detect when a person is in the seat, causing the air bags to remain off when vehicle is occupied. This is a common issue with the 2013 Altima, but Nissan has not issued a recall to have the seat sensors repaired.
When a passenger sits in the front seat the airbag light on the dashboard indicates the airbag isn't armed. I have had a Nissan dealer "fix" it three times and it starts again in a few weeks. First time dealer said a connection came loose when the seat was adjusted. Same thing the second time and the third time they said they secured the connection. The light came on in a matter of weeks again . I will take the car back for a fourth time soon. I asked the dealer service rep if there were any service bulletins regarding this problem, he said there weren't any, I feel that I can't have the only car with this problem. Whenever there is a passenger in the front seat I worry about being involved in an accident and their airbag not deploying.
Popping noise heard from lumbar area of passenger seat back. Dealership said the sound is inside the seatback and is from the shifting of the springs. They said they tested three other 2020 Nissan Altima seats and they all had the sound when pressed against or while sitting in and moving forward and back against the lumbar part of the seat. They said it's normal. It's an annoyance. No reason why a 2020 brand new car should have a popping sound from springs everytime someone sits in it, moves there back against the seat or simply touches the back rest with their hand.

Driver seat height won't stay adjusted high like I prefer it. I have my mirrors adjusted to a high position but the seat gradually sinks down on its own.

The driver's seat is loose. 2 screws came out and you can rock the seat back and forth. But still attached.
I purchased a 2007 Nissan Altima se v6 about 2 years ago and the power steering is going out. My son was driving the car and it became so hard to turn, that he ended up driving onto a sidewalk. Luckily he was fine and no damage to the car was done. We've also had electrical issues almost immediately after purchasing. His driver seat does not move and windows work when they want to.
When I bought the car I had to replace the transmission 2 times in one year, the suspension is giving up and the driver seat is always braking.
The contact owns a 2014 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that the air bag warning light warning light was illuminated. The dealer was contacted and stated that the air bag harness under the driver’s seat had malfunctioned. The air bag and seat had not been replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact was informed that the repair was not covered under warranty. The approximate failure mileage was 41,000.
Brought my car to lia Nissan of saratoga NY June 29th 2018. The did a recall replacement of my passenger side airbag occupant sensor, since then, and before the year was out, the part has gone bad again. Brought to dealer, the service manager states that because I didn't bring it in before the year warrantied date, they need to charge me a $119 diagnostic fee. The part to replace the occupant sensor costs $45 retail. I do not feel I should be responsible to pay a fee for a part that is known to have multiple failures.
Airbag light for passages seat belt is on. I had one of them repaired before. What do I do now?.
On June 2nd 2019 I was turning from a local street to rt 303 when heard a pop noise. It caused my wheel to jerk quickly to the right and my dash board light turned on. When I pulled over to the side to look and see what it was I saw that the body of my vehicle was resting practically on the tire. I went into a parking lot about 400m which was in front of an auto body. I left it in the parking lot over night and the next day I took it across the street where there is an auto body. When they lifted up my car they saw that the rear left part holding up my shocks had rusted and eroded and snapped and that my rear right side was rusted and cracked.
The airbag light is always on. When the car is taken to a dealer for inspection, they said that the sensor under the seat is not working properly. We worry that the airbag may not deploy during an accident because the seat cannot sense the people sitting on it. It is definitely dangerous the problem has been identified by a Nissan dealer. The vehicle was inspected by the manufacturer. The airbag light stays on, even after the dealer clearing the code. It seems a lot of Nissan Altima have a similar problem.
My drivers seat is stuck reclined and it won't move anymore (parked). My drivers door won't unlock (parked). My engine continuously rattles and the car stalls (driving normal street or highway). The fuel gauge doesn't work accurately (parked driving on street highway or idiling). The brakes and rotors are constantly getting replaced and squeaked since the day I got the car ( stopping).

I noticed that the fron driver seat is loose. There is play room where it moves from one corner to the other. This wiggle is more noticeable when I brake and I take off from being on a stand still.
