Nissan Altima owners have reported 73 problems related to tire (under the tire category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Nissan Altima based on all problems reported for the Altima.
1. Vehicle's exhaust pipe hanger caught bag of debris from the road and felt like the car was falling apart in the rear. Debris was removed by discount tires after purchasing new wheels and tires. 2. Service engine warning light is on. Engine has reduced power and it causes the engine to stop running without warning during operation, with vibrating noises. Nissan states that the cam sensor with crank sensor is faulty and should be replaced. Apparently it is under recall and they want us to pay for a recalled item. 3. Engine long block was replaced on 2/14/06 because of catastrophic engine failure, and the engine continues to have problems with vibrating and sluggishness. 4. Rear engine mount replaced in 11/03/04 as recommended. Now, passenger upper mount was recommended to be changed on 3/14/08. 5. Air conditioning is blowing hot air and we replaced air conditioning high side compressor and oil recharged system in 6/01/07, as recommended. As of today 3/30/08 air conditioning is blowing hot air again. We purchased new wheels, tires and brakes because of the vibration in the car and steering column with low sounding noise. We have consistently taken our car in for maintenance, recalls and additional mechanical problems with very minimal resolutions. Thank you.

2002 Altima with tire problems. * two tires on the consuemr's vehicle recently had blowouts. The most recent blowout caused the vehicle to jump and island and damage two other tires on the vehicle. The consuerm is concerned that these tires may not be appropriate for this vehicle (nexxon tires).
2006 Altima 2. 5 s that is a lemon customer wants to have the car replaced under the lemon law* the consumer stated the vehicle has no start problem. The vehicle would start up when she began her day, but at unpredictable times. There is a grinding noise under the gas pedal while accelerating as well as when coming to a stop. The dealer stated the vibration/grinding noise was coming from the tires. All the windows and doors will lock and the remote keyless entry does not seem to work. The cd player and radio are not playing properly. The radio has a lot of static. The cd player makes the cd's sound like they are scratched.
I purchased 4 sigma regent 9m tires from tire kingdom in 2003. They only had 25,000 on them and 2 of them blew out on the expressway on 2 different occasions. It wasn't a normal blowout, as 2 different mechanics attested. The tire had wires coming out everywhere. I called tire kingdom and they said that since I don't have the tires (my daughter had the mechanics dispose of them after being towed to the nearest service center) they couldn't do anything. I just wanted to make someone aware of this because it could of caused an injury.

I have been having numerous problems with my car moving very slowly, not staying in the road, pulling away from me. I have to drive my car with 2 hands to keep in the road. I have took it back to the dealer numerous times and they have told me many different problems that might be wrong with my car. When I finally decided to take it to another maintenance shop just to make sure I was being told the truth. After 30 min of having my vehicle I was told by a goodyear manager that I have 3x the wrong size tires on my vehicle. He told me that I should have 205/65/16 tires on my car and I have 225/60/16 tires on my vehicle. I am furious because I purchased this car from the dealership with those tires on my car and have taken my car in there several times to be maintenance and service and they knew that was the problem with the vehicle. My car is not a steady vehicle I feel unsafe in this car. I have to constantly hold it still in the road. When it rain I feel like I wreck at anytime. I have a small child and it hurts me to know that I have taken my car in there several times and not one time have they said anything about my tires. I have had those tires aligned and balance but the tech told me it would do me no good because the tires are 3 times to big. Please help I think they should replace my tires with the right size. Also my seat belts on the car will not extract I have taken this to the dealer several times and they will pull them out but when I leave after about 4 to 5 days my belts will get stuck again I also had my seat belts checked and was told it is a manufacturing problems and Nissan will not fix the problem. They told me flat out it is not there problem I can not pull a seat belt. I have to let my daughter ride in the back at times without a seat belt until I can find someone to fix the problem. The seat belts are getting hung from the core of the entrance but they will not fix the problem. *.

2003 Nissan Altima with a long list of problems customer has learned about several recalls and wants this matter to be reviewed** three months after purchasing the vehicle, the vehicle needed new tires and an alignment. Three months later the vehicle would not start. On another occasion, the vehicle began jerking and the indicator lights illuminated. The radiator was cracked and had to be replaced. The vehicle overheated again. The consumer was never told the ecm device had some relationship to the temperature of the engine/coolant and may have contributed to the vehicle overheating.
As I was concluding my business day by driving home, my front right tire went flat. Car driven to a local tire dealer, he refuses to fix tire and says take it back to dealer because the tire was a factory default. My significant other returned to the dealership with the car on November 2, 2005. Service department informed him that the tire damage was my fault, and refused to provide me with a new tire. A few days later, I noticed that my engine cover was hanging. I called my salesman, and he informed me that it probably occurred when the tire went flat. Nissan replaced the two screws, and I was on my way. Although I had experienced challenging times with the car, nothing prepared me for the horrific experience that occurred on Thursday, November 24, 2005. I slowly drove down the grassy incline and proceeded left. I am certain that I was not going faster than five miles per hour because 1) I was on a hill, 2) my mother was in the car, 3) I was turning left, and 4) I was entering a two-lane street. The car was on the street, and I was straightening the car to ensure that we were safely in the right lane to continue down the street. While I was completing these actions, the car suddenly turned left as if it had a life of its own. In order to avoid hitting an SUV and a mailbox, I had to steer for my life, my motherã‚s life, and this now maniac car. I ended up going up the embankment, down the embankment, up and down again. Finally, I was able to stop the car at my deceased uncleã‚s driveway. Amazingly, only my tire and tire axle were destroyed. My mother and I were safe. I am now certain that after two tire incidents, seeing my car swerve on the highway, and listening to it click after possessing it for five days that this car is faulty.
Recently purchased 2006 Nissan Altima. Immediately noticed loud rattling noise at high speed on freeway, swaying in steering and vibration from front tire(s). Took to dealership. They drove it and said could not hear anything. Took back a few days later, whereupon they told me they would need vehicle for a whole day and would not fix it right then and there, that I would have to come back. I took to another Nissan dealership and explained problem to them. They took off the front air deflector and it fixed loud rattling. However, still having problem with rough ride, noisy tires, and seems like motor drags at take off. I have a daughter and after reading all the complaints here, feel like no one is protecting consumers-at all. I'm worried tires are just like 2005 models. Today will be the third time taking it to dealership. I also work for a lawyer and notice aieg has had potential lawsuits for continental tires.
Dealer rotated tires for normal maintenance. Returned home with the car and the next day noticed a vibration. Assumed dealer did not balance, so called and made appointment to return car. Dealer checked car and found the tires to be "feathering". Was not told this when tires were rotated. Dealer found maintenance bulletin on the same continental 16 in tires on 2005 Altima's, but the VIN number of my car was not included in the bulletin. Dealer told me the problem was with the tires to go to a tire dealer and the company would pro-rate new tires. The tire dealer said the problem was with the car, not the tires and refused to take any action. Nissan dealer then referred me to the Nissan CO. Talked to Nissan consumer affair's, they also refused to take any action, stating again that it was a tire problem, not a car problem. Then called continental tire CO and they refuse to take any action, sating again, it was a mechanical problem with the car. . . As evidenced by the maintenance notification published by Nissan. Based on the fact that Nissan has documented the same problem exists with 2005 Altima's regarding feathering of tires, I feel they should be responsible for replacing these tires. Because I don't know for sure if it is a tire problem or a mechanical problem with the car, I have no confidence that if I buy new tires for the car that I won't have the same problem with tire feathering in the near future. What are my options?.

Please see the following excerpt from a letter addressed to Nissan USA concerning the general tires on my 2005 Nissan Altima 2. 5s. Nissan USA is unresponsive. I asked the service advisor what the failure was regarding the wheel bearing but, he did not produce the part. Nissan USA reference # 4966952, general tire file # 00157, 2005 Nissan Altima 2. 5s, VIN # 1n4al11d15c121523, Nissan member # rcnf02140126, continental p215/60r16 94t touring contact as 51720/060457, 51720/060458, 51720/060463, 51720/060469 my initial trip to thornhill Nissan (fort worth) on June 09, 2005, was for a vibration in the steering and a grinding / humming noise in the front suspension. As a transmission repair had previously been done by Nissan, I was not sure if these two events were related or not. I told the service advisor, ron abrahmson (3193) that it sounded like a driver's side bearing to me. Indeed, that was what was found to be the problem and it was subsequently repaired. The service technician, who did the repair, noted that my Altima should have an alignment done. Ron called me and I told him to go ahead and have it done while it was there. When I went in to pick up the car, I was told the front driver's side wheel bearing haupon heading out for home, I noticed the grinding noise and vibration were immediately gone but, there was still a very noticeable hum or drone while driving. I turned around and went back to the dealership. I spoke with ron, told him of my concerns and asked him to take a ride with me. We drove several miles and at various speeds. His conclusion, there is a problem with the tires. He said this has been a common issue/complaint from other Altima owners with this brand of tire and suggested that maybe rotating them would help. I told ron that I would rotate the tires and see if it helped. On, Saturday, June 11th, I did just that. Driving the car over the weekend showed no improvement.
I have a 2005 Altima 3. 5 sl. I started noticing problems with the tires within the first 6 months. I had the car aligned and the tires rotated around 9,000 miles. This did not fixed the vibration issue. The car feels like I'm driving on marbles at highway speeds and the right front fender is rattling. I called the dealer and they looked at the car. They did not find anything wrong with the tires. I took it to a tire dealer, one by one had each of the 4 tires replaced. I am still having issues at highway speeds-car still feels like riding on marbles. I am contacting the service director at the dealership again on this problem not sure what the problem is-I suspect is it something mechanical.
Contact stated: on 2/4/05, dealer lowered the tire pressure from 41 psi to 34 psi and the car still ran very rough. Took back to dealer on 3/4/05 for a test drive, but could not duplicate problem, so he lowered psi to 27. It felt like the tires were rolling over marbles, very rough and unsafe.
I have a 2002 Nissan, Altima that came with continential tires. The tires size is 200/65-16's. They have 28k wear on them . I took the car to the dealer because I noticed that my car was pulling to the right. After an alignment, the car is pulling to the left. Now the dealer is telling me that its my tires, that I need to replace the 2 front tires because of wear. This seems out of line to me because I have never had tires wear to the point that they need to be replace to put my car in alignment. I believe these tires should wear (they get normal highway and neighborhood use) for at least 45k-50k before needing to be replaced. What is wrong with this picture?.
When driving 35 mph, the right front tire fell off the vehicle. This caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle. The consumer stated that the vehicle spun around twice before stopping. The consumer had the vehicle towed to the dealership for inspection. The consumer suffered injuries from the incident.

The vehicle's tires hydroplane frequently on wet surfaces. The dealer states that the tread was not designed to disburse water.
My right front bridgestone turanza el42 (p205/65r16) tire came off the rim as a whole while driving northbound on the garden state parkway. My car violently turned right and began heading southbound against oncoming traffic, the right side of my car then smashed into the guardrail at 70 mph and spun into the local traffic lanes on the otherside of the highway.
On 9/17/03 I had four p205/60r15 uniroyal tour tr tires placed on my 2001 Nissan Altima. Within one week two were replaced because of vibration. @ two weeks ago I had the tires rotated. The rear tires were placed on the front. Immediately vibration and pulling to the right was noticed. Again two new tires were placed on the vehicle. Again the pull to the right. The front tires were moved to opposite sides and the pull was to the left. A new tire was placed on the vehicle and it stills pull to the left. The car is in alignment. I would think there is a defect in these tires. I have notified uniroyal of the same by email.

I purchased a 1997 Nissan Altima used with 15k miles in 1998, it now has about 47k miles, the other morning when I went to my car the paint was coming off, I thought that someone had scraped the paint off the hood of my car, I called my ins. Co and the referred me to a dealer. He took one look and said that the top coat was peeling off the paint all the way down to the sanding and it was not covered by my ins. I have had car much older then this one and this has never happened before, their must be a defect in this paint, it is completely peeling off and it happened almost overnight. I have taken very good care of this car, getting it washed, waxed & polished. I would appreciate some type of compensation on this problem and a response from Nissan mfg.

There were problems with tire equipment on 2002 Nissan Altima. The left rear and right rear tire developed a defect high on the wall. There were no foreign objects in the road to cause a total loss of pressure. The consumer would like to be reimburse for the replacement of the tires.
While traveling about 60mph on the highway, without prior warning, had blown out and the dual airbags didn't deploy. The vehicle crossed the concrete median, and hit an 18 wheeler head on, the vehicle was totaled. Ts scc.
Consumer wrote requesting assistance in obtaining reimbursement from firestone for the cost of replacing the recalled firestone firehawk gta02 tire size p205/55r16, dot # w2t2vf3319. After several attempts to get recall repairs, there was a blowout on front passenger side. Firestone informed NHTSA that they had reimbursed the consumer for the replacement tires he purchased for his vehicle.
All 4 tires are showing signs of separation after 18months/33000 miles.
After noticing the tire was low in pressure I proceeded to a tire repair facility. After inspecting the tire and finding a small nail the repairman noticed a split on the inside of the tire where the belts are joined together. The repairman said he could not put the tire on the car due to safety reasons. I purchased a new tire to be on my way. After taking the tire to a general tire dealer it was determined that the defect was a factory process defect. I contacted general tire (file #75994) however the company would only agree to fund half of another tire. I did not want another tire. I am concerned that this defect may affect other tires, however, every tire would have to be removed from the mounting to inspect the inside of the tire. I would like general tire to refund my purchase price for the new tire I was forced to purchase due to the nature of the defect. (dot number: a3c63dv488 tiresize: p195/65r15).

On 4/29/01 I noticed what appeared to be a slice in my tire I brought my car back to the Altima dealer who stated I had to bring my car to a place that sells general brand tires when I did that I took it to a sears they took the wheel off and stated to me that it was a defect in the tire on the front left side upon checking the rest of my tires they found that the front right tire was also defective, they also told me to watch the back 2 tires because they came from the same lot of tires, they called general tire who stated I will have to pay 15 dollars a tire for replacement of 2 tires, they did not offer to recall and replace the rear 2 tires, I also notified the Nissan dealer I bought the car from and talked to jamie in service who more or less laughed and said OH really thats terrible, I also called the 1-800-Nissan-1 number, then I was told that it was general tires problem and not theirs??? so now I have to wait 5 days for the replacement tires and I am driving around with one spare tire (donut) and one bad tire until the replacements come in. (dot number: acun2n7329 tiresize: p205/6or15).
Consumer has contacted 5 firestone dealers in his area about recall on firehawk, p205/55r16 tires, when he called two of them, they said they had t tires in stock. When consumer got to dealer and showed recall letter, they no longer had those tires in stock. Other 3 dealers told him they would call when tires came in. Also, contacted firestone, was told to contact dealer. Please add firestone dealer names and addresses.

I had to replace both front tires after only own the car about 8 months. Before I bought the tires I call the Nissan dealership about the tires and they said it wasnt anything they could do so I had to pay to replace the tires. (tiresize: p20555r16t)( dot number: tire size: p20555r16t ).
Hot day. Tire separated. Not because of high presure. No nails. Original tire. (dot number: 156 tiresize: p205/60r15).
Replaced the two front tires because they would not hold air for any length of time, for no apparent reason. Now I have noticed cracks near the tread area that run circumferentialy around the tire. Tread depth still is good. ( dot number: w1un tire size: p205/60r15 ).
Tire failed (general p195/65r 15). Mjs.
Firestone affinity tires carry a warranty of 80,000 miles. After only 37,000 miles the tires do not pass state inspection! when contacting firestone they informed us that they had sent a memo to their dealers stating that affinity tires as original equipment on vehicles would as of April 2000, be warranteed for only 50,000 miles. Affinity tires purchased through their retail stores would continue to be warranteed to 80,000! we as owners were never notified of this change. We have 2 Altimas for which I am filling 2 reports! tires have been rotated & cared for as the manufacturere recommended! ( dot number: tire size: p195/65r15 ).
