Nissan Altima owners have reported 7 problems related to transmission sensor (under the power train category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Nissan Altima based on all problems reported for the Altima.
Check engine light came on around same time car began to exhibit acceleration issues, like stalling, slipping into 2nd gear, and engine cut out when accelerating during both normal city and highway driving. Sensors read by certified mechanic, and dealership indicated oxygen sensor failure and the dealership replaced the cvt transmission and the O2 sensor. After repairs and part replacements, 2 weeks later all of these problems began to reoccur. Several mechanic recommended getting rid of the car as they can not resolve the issues and don't want to waste my time or money. Contact art's automotive in berkeley California.

While driving my car and merging onto a busy interstate, the check engine light, traction control, and blind spot monitoring error lights all came on the car would not accelerate. The rpm gauge would go up and the car would try to go, but it just wouldnt. I almost got rear ended by a semi truck because my car wasn't able to go or move out of the way. I left it in a shop for over a week and apparently it's something to do with the cvt transmission and speed sensors. I contacted Nissan and all they would tell me was that they did an extended warranty on those transmissions up to 130,000 miles, however my car was roughly 2,000 miles over this and was not covered by that warranty. They told me all I could do was replace the transmission and that was going to cost me roughly $4,000. I'm almost scared to drive it anywhere there's lots of traffic or fast moving traffic for fear of someone running into me. Also when all of those dash lights come on, the traction control isn't working and I've had to drive in the rain several times. I just believe it's overall dangerous and Nissan isn't doing anything to fix the problem for cars that have somehow managed to make it over 130,000 miles. I know several people who've had similar things happen with their Nissan car that has this transmission. I do believe it is a safety issue because it malfunctions at any given time just randomly. I can be driving and it's fine one minute, the next thing I know all of these dash lights are lit up and the car won't accelerate.

The transmission went out and the car had no power. It happened twice within 3 months and the dealer didn't want to take responsibility the 2nd time, they claimed I had rodent damage to the transmission speed sensor harness. I had to pay out of pocket $450. 00.

Work/repair orders, available on request. It appears to be a common issue with Nissan Altima's featuring the ctv transmission. 1) purchased the car from hertz, 12/13. 2) acceleration problem noted when first extended trip was taken to bakersfield in 5/14. 3) problem: when the engine was warm the transmission sensor fails and car can not accelerate. Car failed going over the "grapevine" in gorman, CA. 4) under Nissan 60m warranty, took the car to get checked. Car had 59m miles on it. Explained the problem. They claimed it was a throttle sensor. Fixed it under warranty. 5) next trip to las vegas, going up the I-15 through victorville, Aug/2014. The exact same problem occurred. Acceleration failed when engine was warm and climbing a gradual incline. 6) took the car back to bp Nissan. Now they claim to know for sure the problem was not with the throttle sensor but with the ctv transmission. Unfortunately they now claim my car is no longer under warranty and requires a $4,000. 00 new transmission. 7) after researching the problem it appears this is a common problem for the new Altima ctv transmission. They new what the problem was when I first brought the car in with 59m miles on it. They "kicked the can down the road" hoping I wouldn't come back until after the 60m mile warranty expired. Dangerous situation having to pull to the side of the freeway. Especially with kids in the car. They refuse to give me a "decline of service" letter. Please advise. Regards, tom timmons.
