1 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2025

Earlier in the year the brake light (some times with slip and abs) came on the dash and suddenly braking was diminished. There was a horrid grinding sound plus vibration under the pedal. I was on highway 17 (a dangerous mountain freeway in CA) going downhill and it was extremely scary as has a car full of friends kids and hardly any brakes. I braked as much as it would allow, down shifted and pulled to the side (which again if you google that highway people die all the time from idiot drivers/speeders/tight corners). I instinctively turned off the car and got out to check off something had gotten caught in my wheel but nothing. I turned the car on and the problem had gone so drove to the nearest garage but he couldn't find anything wrong. I called Nissan but they said they knew of no problems with breaking systems on the Armada and said to bring it in and pay for an expensive diagnosis. When I got home I googled it and found 100s of similar experiences with all sorts of repairs at Nissan that hadn't worked. Some say brake booster, others sensor, other reset or upgrade hardware. Not one actually fix so far but I did find a couple of lawsuits for the same reason so don't understand how this is not a recall. The second time I was in town so it wasn't too bad but hard to stop at the crossing for a pedestrian and today it went again going back up the mountain but luckily don't need to brake much going in that direction. If it can't be fixed and it involves brakes then surely this is a serious safety violation. I also noticed that others are having a similar problem with newer Armadas with a newly upgraded braking system from Nissan and another lawsuit is on file. How is this being ignored? my car is 20 and I was looking into another Nissan but if they don't stand by and honor their mistakes then I really have no faith in them.

2 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/17/2025

Breaks suddenly went out and I couldn't stop. I had our kids in the car.

3 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2025

Once in awhile when the brakes are applied there is a loud sound that sounds like ache large can being crushed, and the brakes don't work properly. The car sort of lurches to a stop rather than coming to a smooth stop. If the engine is shut off and turned back on nine times out of 10 the brakes will begin to work again but occasionally it takes a few times of restarting the vehicle. I contacted Nissan and they said that they would contact me back and they had a lawyer call me who really just wanted to interrogate me more than offer any kind of solutions or answers. I was able to look up online and see that there is or was a class action lawsuit and that it's a known problem with many Nissan Armadas being the master solenoid. This seems to be a continuing safety issue and if someone were to have to come to a quick stop there's no warning that this is going to happen beforehand and would negate any kind of safety stop. This has been going on for many years and is extremely expensive to fix. Which puts it right out for most families to be able to afford fixing this and just having to lope along hoping that it isn't one of those times when the brakes are going to give out in an emergency. Given that Nissan contacted me with a lawyer shows me that they are afraid of what could happen but not yet concerned enough that enough people have died for it to be worth their while cost-wise.

4 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2024

Brakes. Went out with no warning for second time.

5 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/26/2024

The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Armada. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed and attempting to slow the vehicle, he heard an abnormal sound emanating from the brake pads, requiring increased effort to slow the vehicle. The vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. The abs warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

6 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/11/2023

While driving the brake light came on and when I attempted to stop pedal goes almost to the floor and loud grinding noise is heard. I was able to barely stop the vehicle, I then shut off the vehicle, checked around the vehicle as well as engine compartment not finding any noticeable issue. Restarted the vehicle and brake light was off able to stop with no issue and no grinding noise was heard. Mentioned this to dealer when it was brought in for oil change and they indicated that there was no notice of a recall for this issue. They checked the vehicle and could not find any issues. This has happened several more times where brake light goes on, issue with trying to stop and loud grinding noise. The remedy seems to be to get the vehicle stopped, barely, shut off the vehicle, wait for a short moment and then restart the vehicle. This is very concerning if this happens when needing to make an immediate stop as it takes a bit to get the vehicle to stop when this occurs. Nothing in particular is being done while driving to cause this to happen and I have not been able to replicate.

7 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/08/2022

Several times when driving, my brake light will come on and when pressing the brake, it does not engage. When you press on the pedal you hear a loud grinding sound. It does not slow down the vehicle at all and the grinding is loud and seems to be damaging internal parts. When you turn the engine off, and restart it the problem goes away. I have read so many similar issues with 2006 Nissan Armada about the brake light. How is this not a safety recall especially when I’m on the freeway driving 65 mph and all of a sudden brake light comes on! I have to pull over safely and hard to do especially when the brake does not engage at all when the light is on. This is a huge safety concern for me due to the fact that I never know when this is going to happen again. What if it happens while I need to come to a quick emergency stop?! this is a major safety concern that needs to be looked into!!.

8 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2022

I was driving on the road and my brake light came on and my brakes failed. As I tried to stop my brakes made a grinding spring noise. I turned the car off and after about 3 minutes I restarted and everything was fine. I continue to drive and less than 10 minutes later it did it again. I have went online to look for information and I see that there was a lawsuit about the booster delta sensor. I called Nissan and they denied this, and I went to the Nissan dealership and they will check it out because they have not seen any recalls on my vehicle for this problem yet online there's a whole lot of customer complaints about this model doing the exact same thing. Here is the case# 46966578 Nissan gave me to document the call. . Read more...

9 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 12/04/2021

The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Armada. The contact stated while driving 40 mph, the brakes warning light illuminated. The brake pedal was depressed and made an abnormal metal-on-metal sound. The contact slowed down, veered to the side of the road, and restarted the vehicle however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The mechanic retrieved a delta stroke error code however, the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 230,815.

10 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2021

The airbag light has been on for a while indicating that there is a defect in the airbags . The brakes light comes on randomly and the car brakes on its own without me applying the brakes and that is very dangerous especially on the highway and the transmission light comes on showing the 4x4 light as on for no reason and I would have it on just the 2 wheels.

11 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/30/2020

12 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/29/2019

The emergency and importance to recall my vehicle which is a 06 Nissan Armada and I'm sure there is plenty more out there. The issue is that my brakes will not engage out of nowhere. They will stop working and it feels as if the brakes are locking and grinding . This happens when going down hill , the most dangerous times it has happened to me is driving while in the freeway.

13 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/08/2018

Adc slip light come on the car cut off and have no power motion and in park hightway and street.

14 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/16/2018

When trying to stop the abs brakes engage and the car is almost impossible to stop. I have had this vehicle looked at and different parts changed but the problem keeps coming back. I had the brakes changed, brake booster and clock spring changed. The vdc and slip lights will randomly come on and the abs engages while driving. Almost caused a wreck the other day but I was able to maneuver around vehicles and then stop. This also happened back in 2011 with this same vehicle we had the brake booster changed and the problem went away until now. The brake booster was evaluated and scanned and checked out ok. Last time it cost $1,000 dollars to fix it, but is now a problem again.

15 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/16/2018

I was in stop and go traffic when a grinding/springy sound came out from under and the :brake" light came on. I had no control over the brake pedal, it would go all the way down to the floor but would not stop, luckily I was on a flat road so it didn't move forward or backwards. I was still able to drive the car to a safe spot and used my emergency brakes to get there. If I were going at a high speed, I don't know what would have happened. You can replace a car, but you can't replace a person. I have an 8 month old baby who needs me. My brother in law is a mechanic for all types of cars and has been for years, he told me this is a well known problem with Armadas (04-07). Mine is an 06. At this point I have to keep turning off my car and back on to restart some computer? I am not good with cars. If this happens at a high speed and I can't stop because of this issue it is on your hands. You know there is a problem, yet do nothing about it. This Armada is a deathtrap. I do not feel safe in it, but I don't have the money to buy another vehicle. My brother in law suspects it is the abs, vdc, brake malfunction. I was speaking to someone else about this issue, and they said they had the same issue on their, and once when a light turn red and he tried to stop he couldn't and ended up in the middle of an intersection. Does someone have to die before anything is done?.

16 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/07/2017

The break light will come on while driving and then the breaks do not work but if you shout off the car and restart the light goes off and the breaks works just fine after that.

17 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/19/2017

The contact owned a 2006 Nissan Armada. While driving approximately 35 mph and attempting to stop the vehicle, the brake pedal fractured while being depressed and caused the contact's vehicle to crash into the rear of a second vehicle. During the crash, the vehicle was destroyed and the front end was severely damaged; however, the air bags did not deploy. A police report was filed and the vehicle was towed. The driver sustained a concussion and the front passenger sustained a neck abrasion. Medical attention was required. The cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 175,000.

18 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/05/2016

Check engine light is on.

19 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/12/2015

While driving and slowing down the break lights come on and you can hear a grinding sound and the vehicle begins to pulse. The only way to quickly fix the problem is to restart the car. I've taken the Armada to my local dealership to rectify the problem. However, the technicians drive the vehicle around the lot for a few minutes and say they do not notice any problems with the breaks. This issue has a potential to generate fetal outcomes. Fortunately for my family, we have not been in harms way. The problem has been on going since we purchased the vehicle in may 2006.

20 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2015

Brake pedal goes flat on the floor and vehicle wouldn't stop. This is about the 3rd time it happened. In the previous occurrences it was towed to the dealership and they changed the abs/vdc system and brake pressure sensor. The cost about $3000. It was towed to them yesterday after the occurrence and now dealership doesn't know what wrong with the truck because they have test and haven't experienced, and so they are not going to do nothing. Since the whole thing random I'm scared of driving my family in it and most especially when the manufacturer has no clue about what's going on. Can you help me? william.

26 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/05/2012

Brakes are making a noise and the abs, vdc and slip lights are coming up on the dashboard. We have tried turning on and off vehicle. This made the lights go off at first. We have checked brake fluid. We have had the brakes inspected. No visible reason for this to occur. I have seen numerous reports on this same problem. Why is my vehicle not covered in the ntb06-040 recall?.

27 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/02/2011

On multiple occasions my recently purchased 2006 Armada has had an issue with the brakes where the braek light comes on, there is a terrible grinding sound, & I lose about 75% of my brake function. I only purchased this truck about 5 months ago & it has happened 3x. No telling how many times it happened to the previous owners. This is extremely dangerous. Nissan fails to recognize this is happening even though a simple internet search will show 100s, if not 1000s of Armada owners with the same issue. Something needs done ASAP!! the dealership couldn't "recreate" the problem to fix it, but it's likely if they could, then they'd have to admit what was wrong & that it is Nissan's fault. Beware!!.

28 Service Brakes problem

The approximate failure mileage was 59,000.

29 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/06/2011

This experience happened yesterday, September 3, 2013 with my family in traffic. I'm entering this report for the time it first happened when I was driving although it has happened more times for my wife who is the primary driver. In total this has happened over 10 times. One September 6, 2011 I was dropping kids off in school where the teachers control how we approach and allow the kids to get out of the car. I was in the next group to pull forward. As I attempted to brake, there was not any reduction in speed. The brakes made a hollow metal scraping sound but did not stop the car. I ran into the car in front of us since there was way to turn with school kids on both sides of the car. We got out and determined the SUV I hit was not damaged and we settled the accident with a lunch since we were friends. My front bumper was scraped cosmetically since the other vehicle had a trailer hitch. After restarting the car, I could not duplicate the problem. I have peresonally had this experience about 5 times in random speeds up to 40 mph approaching lights. I have always had to find a way to not harm people or crash. I've even driven over curbs into sidewalks avoiding people. My wife has had this experience more than myself. It's an amazing flaw in the vehicle that I've found no answer to online or at the 6 to 8 dealers I've asked. Nissan dealers only recommend service, act sympathetic and wait for you to back off the issue. Wow, I was amazed this is noted so much in this NHTSA database but not an investigation, recall, etc. This is an amazing problem that I've spoke about with any Nissan or Infiniti owner I can and they have all had it happen and they have several crash avoidance stories.

31 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/25/2011

The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Armada. The contact stated that while driving at any speed, the anti-lock braking system would become inoperable when pressure was applied to the brake pedal. The dealer advised the contact to bring the vehicle in for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer had not been notified. The vehicle had not been inspected or repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 17,800 and the current mileage was 18,000.

32 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/07/2011

I own a 2006 Nissan Armada SUV and since I have owned it I have had 4 separate instances of little or no brakes issue. The dash "brake" light comes on and if you apply the brakes you hear and feel the abs system working. . . Giving you little or no brakes when needed. I have research the issue and found many with the same problem with there Nissan Armada's. Nissan is aware of the problem but no fix in place yet. . . And no recall. Someone is going to get killed or kill other with there 6000lb SUV that can't stop when this issue happens. I feel I should not have to pay for a service call on this issue. . . This is a safety issue! the brake system is fine 95% of the time. . . But you never know when this will pop up and you have no brakes! if the SUV is shut off and restarted it goes away and drives and brakes normal. . . . Till whatever triggers this issue shows up again at some point in the future. Nissan needs to get this fixed and have a recall ASAP! I love my Nissan but this scares me! my wife drives this SUV most of the time with our 4 kids in it. Some have had a tbs done to the SUV but it comes back over time. How do we go about getting this fix?.
