36 Service Brakes problem of the 2019 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 07/01/2020

Brakes on 2019 and earlier are "mushy". In an emergency stop brakes do not stop the vehicle properly. Brake pedal travel is excessive and pushing pedal farther, while in motion, does not increase braking force. This is a known issue to Nissan, and upon taking the vehicle to dealership, it was stated that this complaint is normal operation for Frontier brakes.

38 Service Brakes problem of the 2018 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 08/02/2019

I own a 2018 Nissan Frontier 9745 miles. As a previous owner has explained his brake problem same as mine when you depress the brake pedal solid it almost goes to the floor also when this pedal goes low the accelerator goes down too close to each other. I have contacted 3 Nissan dealers they claim they cant duplicate the problem on a road test. . Nissan corp admin lady finally called, she knows nothing about maintenance problems. . . I am a 75 year old 100% disable veteran and just want a car with good reliable brakes, unfortunately Nissan trucks aren't for me. . . . If Nissan cant solve my problem I will by buying elsewhere no accident but very close call. . . . . . . . . . . .

41 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 04/17/2018

While driving the truck will shut off just like the key was turned off. This happened one or two times a day over a ten day period, I swapped my old key with my wife's key and the problem went away. I took it to a Nissan dealership and they wanted to do $7000 of repairs and nothing about the key and ignition switch problem. So I have been using my wife's key for the past five days and no issues. Nissan claims they never had any problems like this although the internet shows a recall in 2010 for 2003-2006 Frontiers for a very similar problem.

45 Service Brakes problem of the 2013 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 07/01/2016

I was on my way to work on the very familiar road that I travel everyday. The speed limit is 45 and since it's a country-windy-road people pretty much go at that speed. As I'm driving the car in front of me was signaling to make a left turn. I applied the break as I approached it. ~noticing that my truck was not even slowing down I pressed the break pedal with all my strength but my truck didn't even slowed any, skidded on the road or left any tire-marks behind! I hit the vehicle who was about to make a left turn from behind but it hardly suffer any damage where as my truck was totaled. In checking the road there aren't any markings of anyone trying to stop as it often happens when an accident happens! I believe that the breaks locked on my truck!.

46 Service Brakes problem of the 2015 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 06/14/2016

Brake and accelerator pedal placements and operation are dangerous. The brake pedal depresses too far before engaging the brakes and is too close to the accelerator pedal to work with this braking characteristic. A boot or wide shoe can overhang the edge of the brake pedal and engage the accelerator before braking becomes effective. The engine races, you push the brake pedal harder, depressing the accelerator more, racing the engine even more. . . Once the cycle starts you must use the emergency brake or throw it into neutral to prevent forward motion. Then finally take your foot off the 'brake' -which also releases the accelerator. The brakes need to engage before they depress to the same plane as the accelerator.

Vehicle shut off while driving on the highway. I was driving down the highway at 65 mph when the truck made a quick jerk and them completely shut off. I came very close to causing a highway pile up!! I had no power, no steering no nothing. Luckily I was able to get across 3 lanes safely. Cars were slamming on brakes and luckily I didnt kill myself or anyone else. Once I got the the side of the road I was able to get the truck going and safely get to an exit. I creeped home on a wing a prayer and now the truck is sitting in my driveway. I dont dare to use it and I need it. I am scared to drive it, ithas given me anxiety, it was horrific. My truck has 94220 miles on it.

Started it up. . . Hardly moved. Squeaking sound under the hood. Looks like the infamous radiator leak into the transmission. . . .

56 Service Brakes problem of the 2006 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 07/18/2013

Driving on busy road at approximately 40mph when my truck started to shake, I slowed my truck to approximately 37 mph, when it sounded like my truck exploded. I could not stop and could barely turn the steering wheel enough to get out of traffic just to smash into the curb where I finally came to a stop. The drive shaft came apart, grabbing the emergency brake cable, winding it around one part of the drive shaft, leaving me stranded with minors on the side of the road waiting for a wrecker to tow my truck. Had I have been on the interstate, doing the speed limit (70mph) when this happened, my children and I would have flipped nose over tail, possibly be struck by traffic and seriously injured or killed.

57 Service Brakes problem of the 2006 Nissan Frontier

59 Service Brakes problem of the 2011 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 01/03/2013

Brake rotors have developed severe rust along brake pad surface. Not superficial rust. The surface is "pitted" with rust. Vehicle has 17000 miles. All 4 rotors require "turning" or replacement way too early. This confirmed by two reliable mechanics.

60 Service Brakes problem of the 2005 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 06/01/2012

Nissan's rear axle design for the Frontier is faulty, utilizing a bleeder valve that clogs causing seals to fail. Failed seals cause differential oil to leak leading to axle wear, among other issues. Oil leak also spreads all over breaks leading to possible break failure. My axles were replaced in 2012 (along with breaks due to oil damage), now I'm being told (2015) that axles need to be replaced again. I believe Nissan is aware of the problem but this part failure generates revenue, as the work is costly, and leads to the need for break replacement. There needs to be a recall.

61 Service Brakes problem of the 2006 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 05/15/2012

I own a 2006 Nissan Frontier nismo with 65k miles. Took vehicle to dealer for routine maintenance and recall work. Dealer noticed left rear axle seal leaking which covered brakes and emergency brake with axle oil which in turns makes the brakes ineffective putting my life and child's life and many others in danger. There are many other cases just like this one regarding other Frontiers with leaking rear axle. Please investigate this issue before it is too late. Make Nissan issue a recall!.

62 Service Brakes problem of the 2006 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 03/24/2012

Rear differential pinion seal and rear axle seal leaks causing gear oil to leak on brakes causing loss of rear brakes. First and last Nissan!.

63 Service Brakes problem of the 2004 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 12/14/2011

As I approached a stop sign on a secondary paved highway entering a primary highway, the above vehicle began to skid on a thin layer of gravel laid down on the blacktop for recent ice and snow control. The road was currently clear and dry. I applied the brakes which went halfway to the floorboard without antilock action. Concurrently the accelerator maintained the current speed of approximately 20 miles per hour. The vehicle continued through the stop sign on a collision course with an oncoming vehicle from the left moving at approximately 60 miles per hour. Without control of my vehicle it continued on its own across the primary highway missing the rear of the oncoming vehicle by a foot or two. The other driver appeared not to be aware of my inability to stop and possibly didn't even realize the incident occurred. Fortunately there were no vehicles in the opposite lane coming my direction and I speeded up to clear the highway and continue on the secondary road. At that point my vehicle functioned normally. The brakes worked again and the accelerator appeared to function normally. In essence, from the point of the skid, my vehicle drove itself across the highway. Antilock did not engage and the accelerator appeared to simultaneously malfunction.

64 Service Brakes problem of the 2007 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 11/01/2011

I am the original owner of a 2007 Nissan Frontier with 114,000 miles. I took my car into the local Nissan dealership for service due to transmission issues. Their assesment astounded me. They informed me that the transmission and radiator needed to be replaced due to a known manufacture defect in the radiator causing antifreeze to be spilled into the transmission. The quoted reapair was over $6000. 00. This is my only vehicle and I'm still making loan payments on it. I've treated this vehicle with kid gloves and followed the maintenance schedule religiously. This mechanical issue is due to something that was originally sold to me defective and Nissan of north America is unwilling to cover the repairs. This is a widespread issu andhas affected many Nissan owners. There are even class action lawsuits against Nissan to get reparations for repair bills already paid.

65 Service Brakes problem of the 2006 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 08/29/2011

Traveling down the road in stop and go traffic I looked in my rearview mirror and then back to the vehicle in front of me. I was doing 15-20 mph and saw they had stopped and I was in danger of a collision if fast action wasn't taken. When depressing the brake pedal in a panic manner the vehicle did not slow due the accelerator being depressed at the same time as the brake due to the closeness of the pedal. This resulted in a accident involving 3 autos including my 2006 Frontier se 4x4. This problem has been noted several times before by the cpsc.

66 Service Brakes problem of the 2006 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 06/01/2011

Rear axle seal failure caused lubricant to coat emergency brake, resulting in slippage.

67 Service Brakes problem of the 2009 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 02/09/2011

The brake pedals travels further down than top of accelerator pedal. In winter when wearing winter boots I had to make an quick stop to avoid a pedestrian crossing the street on a crosswalk. I found myself depressing the brake pedal and accelerator at same time nearly hitting person. There have been other incidents not as serious. I called dealer and Nissan with no satisfaction. I also asked non-dealer shops and they said that nothing was wrong as far as they could see. My conclusion is that this is a design problem. The brake pedal, in an emergency, should not travel that far down. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

69 Service Brakes problem of the 2005 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 01/23/2011

Cruise control set at 50 mph, and as car started incline, accelerator engaged abruptly and rpm increased to maximum. Multiple attempts to brake and regain control of vehicle. Truck went off road on curve and head on collision with tree occurred. Driver had both feet on brake, yet was unsuccessful in slowing vehicle.

70 Service Brakes problem of the 2007 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 01/13/2011

On 01-13-2011 I was driving my 2007 Nissan Frontier pick up on PA sr 92s. Between nicholson and tunkhannock abs and slip warning lights came on. I called my Nissan dealer immediately, explained the problem and dificulties I had handling the vehicle on the snow covered road. I was told that earliest appointment I could get was 01-20-2011. On my way back, when I drove on another snowy road I applied 4x4 system but it failed to engage. Now the abs, slip and 4x4 did not work and I had hard times to make it safely home. I called the dealer again a was again told that I could get it fixed on 01-20-2011. I decided to report this problem and I hope that your investigation of my complain will make driving, especially winter driving of Nissan vehicles safer.
