This vehicle does not show up on the r3022 crankshaft/camshaft sensor recall. However, the vehicle was manufactured 06/2002 and the recall dates include from 02/2001 to 07/2002. This vehicle has 91,694 miles on it and thus should not be exhibiting this problem from normal wear and tear. This is a very serious problem and could cause a crash in the future.

6 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2007 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 04/28/2019

It started with the car not going over 40 mph the first few minutes of driving and then it would be ok. I didn't get check engine light or any warning signs, so I drove it like that for 5 months until the car stopped accelerating, and it won't go over 20 mph. Still no check engine light. I took it to the dealer and was told the engine timing chain was out along with the transmission. The repair cost was over $8000. A 12 year-old car with 114,000 miles is headed to the junk yard. I was the first and only owner of the car and took really good care of it but sad to see it go so soon.

7 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2003 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 08/01/2018

I have experienced problems cranking the car, I purchased a new battery and battery terminals. This appeared to quick fix it but soon after the speedometer stopped working and the check engine light came on. Soon after followed tcs control and abs light came on. I took it to a mechanic and the diagnosis involved a problem with the camshaft position sensors and crankshaft position sensors. I purchased a book about the car and read that my make and model had a recall. After double checking online about the recall I noticed it appeared to be the exact same problem. Convinced, I went to my local Nissan dealership to have them check however it was explained to me that my VIN number was not recalled. I want to have my VIN number placed on the NHTSA recall list so that I may have my vehicle repaired. If this is not possible please advise further. Thank you.

8 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2007 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 03/11/2017

9 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2011 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 07/30/2016

Check engine indicator light has come on intermittently 3 times in the past two months. Upon getting a diagnostic test at a Nissan dealership, the second time the light came on, I was told they needed the car another day, for a longer time to further investigate the two codes that came up during the test. The check engine light went back out a few days later. Now two months later the light is on again and this time as I was leaving a shopping center parking lot, turning onto a main road the car made a jerking/surge-stop motion as if it did not want to accelerate. It continued to do this same motion any time I slowed down or stopped at a light or slowed down to make a turn during my 2. 5-3. 0 mile trip to my house. I did not drive the car for the next 24-28 hours. Upon driving the car to the dealership to drop off for service I did not experience the jerking/surge-stop motion. After assessing the vehicle today I was informed that the rear timing chain cover has deteriorated causing problems with oil pressure to the engine, code p0011. There were also two other codes for heating system p1217 and transmission fluid pressure p0868. Total cost of repairs $2984. My car is 5 years old, approximately 67,000 miles on it so it is outside of the warranty. After reading others similar complaints about transmission issues just outside of the warranty period, knowing that previous model years had problems that ended up extended warranty it is very disturbing and disappointing to know that Nissan is not further investigating these issues further. Also, other issues I have had tire pressure indicator light coming on intermittently and car not starting but all dash lights staying on had technical bulletins. The latter should be a quick resolve yet I was charged almost $400 for something not mentioned in the related bulletin. Nissan lacks responsible customer service!!!.

17 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2004 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 09/18/2014

I bought used 2004 Nissan Maxima car at north shore auto mall on 9/18/14,the service tech. Drove car up to front of dealership w/car still running he test drove car w/me( didn't think anything about it at the time) I got in and we went for a test drive, car was great. Got back to dealer, gave the balance. Once I left dealer, while driving on highway the car started to skip & felt like it was going to stall, I pulled over to right lane, put hazards on w/traffic behind me, the car stalled, I almost caused a collision, cars were beeping, swerving out of the way, I couldn't get any acceleration with it in drive, so I put it in neutral & after 3 try's it started up w/much hesitation. I was scared for my life & others on the road, I took side streets to make it home & when I stopped at stop sign it stalled again, I repeated the same steps as above w/hazards on the whole ride home. Now I know why the service tech. Took test ride w/me. I had a friend with me as my witness. This car wont pass inspection , the check engine light will not turn off, I called dealer he said make an appt, I said I only have 7 days for inspection sticker, he said, he has nothing to do with service and to call them. I called on Monday the 22nd &1st,available appt. Wasn't til 9/25/14, my 7 days were up on that Thursday. He said he'll call me around noon, I waited til Friday 5pm, he nor anyone in serv. Called to update me & let me know car will be there over the weekend. What do I do & whats the time limit on fixing my car w/o any communication to me. Im sooooo upset at the lack of professionalism and ethics, im afraid if I say something derogatory, they will sabotage my car. Please help me. . !!!!.

18 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2004 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 09/18/2014

While picking my new, used Maxima 2004 from dealer, pulling out of the lot and waiting for clearance to get on highway, I proceeded to turn onto hw & it stalled & alternator light came on & "check engine" it hasn't shut off yet, I felt like I was in a horrible nightmare. . I thought I was going to get hit because cars were coming, I quickly put hazards on, and put it in neutral and tried to start it, it was trying to turn over as I was pumping the gas pedal like a jack hammer, I finally floored it & it started not without whiplash to my neck, my chest hit the steering wheel because it jerked sooooo hard into gear !!!. I put it in drive and was so nervous because cars were honking & swearing at me. . . I was totally shocked and greatly disappointed that I almost caused multiple car collision. I called mgr at dealership when I got home & he said " just call service and make an appt. I said I just left your lot w/new plates and told him what had just happened, he said " I have nothing to do w/service, so call them in the a. M. & make an appt. " didnt even apologize. I got anxiety because I'm 47 yrs old and had quite a few cars and I know when a car jerks, goes from drive to 5th gear with powerful jerking motion all the time, skipping & stalling while in drive, most likely a bad transmission, its obviously not safe to drive, I just bought it 9/18/14 & I cant drive it, it won't pass inspection in 7 days. Check engine light still on, looks like 7 days is not happening my appt is 9/25/14 supposed to be under warranty. Instead of being excited about car I'm so angry & I feel like once they had my money, they could care less about me or my family or drivers on road. Thankfully no-one got hurt, its been parked since 9/21/14, they said they did 21 pt insp, yaa right !! sure they did, how can they knowingly let me drive off lot. . With no regard for public safety. Is this legal ??.

19 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2004 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 09/17/2014

1n4ba41ex4c896406 starting it up takes 2-3x with putting the gas pedal all the way to the floor, then it jerks into gear. While driving it just stalls out which is very scary & dangerous and it goes from drive to 5th gear no 1-4, and it hesitates & when driving up to a red light for example, then it starts to conk out. Also no pick up from an idle position, I just bought it 9/17/14 and called dealer and he told him it wont pass inspection "check engine light on" constant. It feels like transmission isn't in proper gear (5th) just stalls while driving. Everyone behind me leans on the horn and yells at me when it stalls out in drive. Im afraid to drive it. The dealer (north shore auto mall, lynn MA 01905, mgr name kevin, real jerk !!) said they did a 21 point inspection, but thats bs, they would have caught that seeing that they are in the business and knew they sold me a car w/bad transmission/alternator. Now they dont want to know me. Please give me some resources that you know of to remedy the problem. I could go on & on about the treatment I had to endure but that wont help hopefully you can regards susan dallesandro 857-237-7661 suzydell@gmail. Com ".

20 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2003 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 02/01/2014

While driving at approx 30 mph, the car shut off as my child and I were coming to a stoplight. I had no problem restarting and encountered this same problem 4 more times during my trip, including failure to idle. Check engine light never came on. Next time, I was driving approx 45 mph and the car shut off and it tried restarting itself while I was trying to find a safe place to pull over. The car restarted again no problem. Then as my husband and I were driving at approx. 60 mph the car began to lurch (stopping and attempting to start again by itself). Pulled off the road and was able to restart the car, all of these instances no check engine light. Lastly, I was unable to start the car after parking it away from home and it was acting like it was "flooded". After 20 minutes of attempted starting, it finally took and I drove home on the back roads. After several attempts at home to recreate the no start problem, the check engine light is finally on! at this point, I'm not driving this vehicle until we have the bank 2 camshaft position sensor replaced. We ran a code reader and got a p0345 code. Nissan has a recall on this year make/model but I, like many, many other consumers have been told, their VIN is not part of the recall from 2003. I would like to know if anyone's VIN fell into their recall. I just told the Nissan "customer service" that I am afraid driving this car could result in fatalities, and they suggested I take it to the dealership and maybe they could do something for me! like sell me a new car? never again, Nissan.

27 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2004 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 03/04/2012

I bought my car new in July of 2003 with less than 14 miles on it. I have maintained my car myself (when I can) since a napa repair shop put the wrong transmission fluid in it and completely ruined my tranny. I change my oil regularly and keep up to date with other scheduled maintenance. I now have approximately 144k miles on my car and I have a obd code of p0420. In addition to the check engine light, my brake light stays on even after releasing the emergency brake. One thing I have notice is that I have to add oil every so often because it goes low. I thought it was because the car is approaching 9 years, but now with the obd code, I know that there is an issue with one or both of the front catalytic converters. Please correct these issues before someone gets injured.

28 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2000 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 06/25/2011

I checked my oil and transmission fluid about a week and a half after buying the car and right when I shut the hood the check engine light popped on and stayed on obviously very temperamental. About a week later while stopped at a red light the engine felt a little weird then when I started driving right away the car lost power shut down and all the light popped on I had my 2 year old and 3 year old and fiance in the car and the steering wheel locked up and I almost got hit trying to steer it out of traffic into a mcdonald's. Called the dealer and he just left us sitting there in the heat. Called the tow truck and I was trying to restart the car but it would turn over but not stay on. So I wait and wait and decide to try starting it like 20 minutes later after looking under the hood and it starts right up as the tow truck is pulling up but he charged me anyway even though I was able to drive it from there to the dealers on my own the dealers mechanic kept trying to diagnose this thing and kept saying OH its fixed now about 4 different times. . . First he said it was the coil pack, then he said it was the maf mass air flow sensor, then they said bad gas was put in it by them and they cleaned the gas rail, then finally they listened to me and replaced the isc (idle speed control) motor now it started working and not dying on me when I slow down or stop at red lights because they gave it back to me like three times saying it was fixed and it wasn't but now when I'm in the park position with the car running within about 20-30 seconds the rpm drops and the car lights up and dies but at least it starts right back up and drives not like before but this is still a problem. Look on identifix website and you will see that 4 components need to be recalled. The maf, ignition coils, isc, and most expensive of all the ecm which it says is usally damaged once the isc is done for.

Failure Date: 04/28/2011

On April 28th 2011, I was driving on the highway when my 2003 Nissan Maxima se vehicle engine sputtered and cut off in the middle of traffic and an engine light came on. I was very lucky there was a police office a few cars behind me to stop traffic otherwise I avoided an accident by a hair! needless to say I had to have the vehicle towed. An engine diagnostic report later indicated the a p0340 and p1564 code which is related to the crank shaft and camshaft position sensors. My vehicle only had 63215 miles on the odometer when this happened. I called Nissan after an online search indicated they had a recall for the problem but when I called Nissan north America inc to get approval for the recall fix, they gave me the run around.
