1 Steering Rack And Pinion problem of the 2006 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 11/17/2016

My 2006 Nissan Maxima is shifting gears on its on as if there is a transmission problem. The steering wheel keeps shifting to one side the guys at the wheel alignment place told me it's the rack and pinion. They also informed me that the rack and pinion goes out very fast and the part is about 400$. The gas light and the light that tells you that you need coolant has been on and stays on. The car is not running hot and my car has a full tank of gas.

2 Steering Rack And Pinion problem of the 2006 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 10/15/2013

When turning the steering wheel the vehicle make a whining, then a grinding noise, along with difficulty steering. Had it checked (thinking the power steering pump) was told it was the pump, the high pressure hose, and the rack and pinion and that this is a typical repair on vehicle of this age. Replaced the rack and pinion, and the hose, and still having issues. I have and have had several cars japanese, american, and german some with twice the mileage and never had a problem of this nature. Checked the Nissan forums and this is common with vehicles of this vintage, murano, and altima with a 3. 5 liter v6. Regardless of its commonality, its still of safety concern and deserves attention.

Very bad steering wheel shimmy in 2004 Nissan Maxima. 9 Steering Rack And Pinion problem of the 2000 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 07/06/2005

We own a 2000 Nissan Maxima se. We have had multiple issues with it. At around 68,000 miles we had to pay around $1000 to replace all of the ignition coil wires on the car because it would stall and quit running. We took it to wallace Nissan in kingsport tennessee and had it repaired. They told us then that it was a " known issue" with no official recall from Nissan so we would have to cover the full cost out of pocket. Next we have always had these "noises" in the front wheels that they keep telling us is from rusted brake dust shields. Now the car vibrates all over the road, going to a mechanic tomorrow, most likely rack & pinion issue. While under the hood today trying to figure out the steering issue, hubby noticed that the brace that holds the motor & radiator is severely rusted. . . . We've replaced multiple O2 sensors, mass air flow sensors, constant issues with brakes since we've owned this thing. . . Etc etc Nissan has major issues with this car from what I am reading. . . . . What a shame they refuse to fix their mistakes.

10 Steering Rack And Pinion problem of the 2005 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 05/25/2005

Purchased a 2005 Nissan Maxima in December 2004. By March of 2005, the strut assemblies (both) had been replaced 3 times and the vehicle was in an additional time for the same complaint of noise in the strut assembly but was repaired to no avail. May 25, 2005: noise in the front end again. Upon inspection from the authorized Nissan dealership in corpus christi, TX, it was said that the noise was coming from a faulty rack and pinion. Prior to this (upon conclusion that the struts needed to be replaced a third time), I asked Nissan to buy back the vehicle. They refused. This vehicle's front end is not repairable and hazardous. The car, at this time, has 17k miles and needs to be either replaced or bought back.
