36 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2006 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 11/05/2017

Alternator failed a few months ago. Had it replaced twice, as the next day it failed again. Now, my brake light and battery light are on again, and everything I've read says this means alternator failure again. This happened the first time as well.

38 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2003 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 07/10/2017

A wire broke inside the alternator causing the battery to stop from charging. My family was driving approximately 60mph on the highway when the charger warning and brake warning lamps came on. The battery began to discharge and the car lost power. We pulled over to the side of the road and the engine went into a "fall safe" mode (all dash indicators and radio display flashed rapidly) and then the engine stopped running. The engine would not restart and the car had to be towed.

41 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2003 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 05/05/2017

I was driving on a large bypass 55 mph. Suddenly, my speed and rpm's dropped even with pushing my gas pedal to the floor. I pulled over, put my car in park, and touched the gas pedal. The rpm's increased normally so I began driving again. Within a short distance it happened again. I got off the bypass and pulled into a parking lot. I turned the car off and checked my fluids. I restarted the car and pulled back out onto the road (40 mph highway). As soon as I pulled out it did it again. I pulled onto a backroad. I noticed then that my abs light and battery light had come on. I turned on my 4 ways since my car would not go over 10 mph. When I turned them on I heard what sounded like an electric short and all of my lights and gauges began flickering wildly. With a very short distance I began losing power to everything until my car completely stopped. I was on the side of a dark road at 11 pm with no lights or power. When the tow truck arrived he said that sounds like the alternator. I looked up the cost of an alternator for my vehicle and found out there was a recall on my vehicle year, make and model: July 14, 2005 NHTSA campaign number: 05v319000 wire breaking inside alternator. This recalled described exactly what I had experienced. In the morning, I called the dealership regarding this and after a call back I was told that there was "no open recall" on my vehicle. Then I called customer affairs at Nissan corporate for clarification. I was told that my car's recall was repaired at a dealership (although they had no record of which dealership did the repair) on an unknown date "between 2005 and the present" so Nissan has closed this recall and is no longer responsible for the repair. I was informed that even if I took my car in and it was verified that this was the same problem, that they would not pay for it. I have a case number from my call to Nissan.

42 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2003 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 04/21/2017

Driving 2003 Nissan Murano on highway and when I began slow down my car turned off. Was able to turn the car back on and then it immediately turned off. Was told it was the alternator, but that it was not included in the recall (NHTSA campaign #05v319000), so Nissan would not replace it.

43 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2003 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 03/24/2017

Driving on a highway with children 65mph coming from airport, starting losing speed quickly, brake light and charging(battery) light came luckily made it side of highway despite, honking horns and screaming kids, someone could have been killed. This is on top of the acceleration problem where all of a sudden you will press on gas pedal and the car doesn't go and then suddenly lunges forward, I have almost been rear- ended on several occasions due to this. I have purchased new battery, alternator, etc. I have had the throttle sensor replaced. This car is so unsafe and has been a money pit. Many mechanics including Nissan mechanics say they test drive the vehicle and don't see the acceleration problem.

45 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2005 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 11/20/2016

I was driving my 2005 Nissan Murano on the highway when the battery light and brake light came on. Few minutes later it wouldn't accelerate then stalled out and wouldn't start. After getting a jump it started up but wouldn't move. I can get the alternator but I'm still having the problem. Don't know what else to do. I can't keep it running long enough to take it in to be checked. Please help fix this issue.

46 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2009 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 11/18/2016

I own a Nissan Murano 2009, there is a problem with the electrical system: alternator/generator/regulator. The charger warning and brake warning lamps will immediately come on and the batter will begin to discharge. After a short time, the engine will go into a "fall safe" condition which will limit vehicle speed. The engine will stop running which could result in a crash. The only way to move the vehicle is to have it towed.

47 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2009 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 01/10/2016

1-10-2016 between 7:00 and 7:30 I was on my way home, car in motion on a busy city street. It was dark outside and snowing, thus slick roads. Brake and battery light came on, car began to lose power. Barely moved and very quickly all electrrical components went dead. Stuck in the middle lane at an intersection, I turned on my hazards in fear of being rear ended. My hazards fairly quickly got dimmer and dimmer. Called 911 and asked to have a patrol car park behind me with lights on until my husband could get there to try to jump me. Car would not srart. Windshield wipers were on doing there own thing. Could not shut them off. Eventually they too died. Could not pull over due to heavy traffic and car moved to slow when issue began. Patrol car did come and parked behind me with lights on in order to prevent an accident. Husband came and was able to jump start vehicle. Issue also happened while leaving a parking lot, car in motion. Husband jump started car. Also happened while taking child to school, put car in neutral and accelerated and car then got power back while in motion on city street. Nissan tech said Nissan considers this an inconvenience. I was scared ob being killed. Also, my passenger air bag indicator light is on stating it is off. Has been on since issue began. Taking to shop to be repaired today, believe the issue is the alternator but not 100% sure. Will keep all receipts and other records obtained.

48 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2009 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 11/12/2015

I was running 40 mph when I saw the "brake" and "battery" indicator lights appear. After less than 1/2 mile and while turning right to enter the freeway entrance, the car just stopped running despite pressing on the gas pedal. I tried turning on the ignition again but nothing happened. I turned on the hazard lights but even they stopped working after a few minutes. I was situated right where cars would turn to get to the freeway entrance. It was obviously an unsafe place for my car to get stalled since cars are turning right and accelerating to go up and to the right to get onto the 680 south freeway (automall entrance). It was actually a good thing that there was some other car that broke down close to my location. Apparently some other driver had called the fremont police and, luckily, 2 police cars were deployed so 1 ended up staying behind my car to kinda block the other cars from hitting mine. The police waited until my husband could get to me and jumpstart my car. It took a couple of tries and after my car started we took it to premier Nissan automall, got a new battery installed, & drove to work. The following day, while running at 60mph on the 680 s freeway, the "brake" & "battery" indicator lights came on again. I was praying to get to my destination as I was so scared that my car would stop again and it was more dangerous this time around as I was on the freeway. Good thing I got to work but, after reading other Murano 09 owners' reports on failing alternators, I knew that this is a safety issue that should be looked into by the NHTSA. The premier Nissan would not even check if the new battery that we bought was charging properly. They said there's a different fee for that. I think this alternator issue is not just for the earlier Muranos but also on the newer models, inluding the 2009 model.

49 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2006 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 10/30/2015

While driving my children to school in the morning, I was driving approx. 45 mph when suddenly I lost all acceleration. I had to try and roll to a safe place as I was in heavy traffic and put the vehicle in park. I turned the key off and waited a few minutes and re-started the vehicle and was able to drive a few miles before it happened again and lost all acceleration while pressing the gas pedal. Again, I rolled somewhere safe to park and turned the ignition off again, however I was unable to start the vehicle and all lights were illuminated on the dash panel. The vehicle was towed to a private mechanic where it was found that the alternator wires had failed and the battery was unable to be charged.

51 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2005 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 07/06/2015

This complaint relates to a closed recall for the 2005 Nissan Murano NHTSA campaign id number: 05v3190. Two months with the vehicle and I had transmission problems, where the vehicle lost power and drive-ability, bringing my passengers and myself to a harms way. I contracted aamco to replace the transmission, one month later, Nissan USA had to provide another transmission to replace the one changed one month before. Last Monday, July 06, 2015, while driving on the new jersey garden state parkway, the vehicle presented serious trouble, when the emergency brake, awd and abs warning lights came on, as the vehicle lost speed, transmission disengaged, putting my wife, myself and other vehicles around us in serious risk of accident. I managed to pull the vehicle to the shoulder and later to a near by friend`s house in the galloway area. After contacting Nissan USA regarding the transmission, they told me to contact aamco, since they installed the new transmission. Aamco checked the vehicle and found out that, the problem was caused by the alternator that heated up, dropped voltage to 12v DC and caused the safe mode to engage, by making the vehicle unsafe on the middle of the highway. Nissan USA claims that this NHTSA campaign has been closed, when it is to my believe that, it should be re-opened and not only me, but also many other Nissan Murano owners, that still confront such factory defective issues to have this issue resolved. I was lucky to be able to act fast enough and bring my vehicle to safes way, would all others be so lucky?.

52 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2003 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 06/04/2015

On June 18th 2015 my car felt as if was losing power and then my brake light and battery came on. I came to a slow moving pace, like 10 mph. Very dangerous I was on the highway. Lost all power. Would not crank. Replaced battery and worked for about 2 weeks and then again same thing. Could have really caused a bad accident. . . . Did some research and had alternator tested. Bad alternator. Replaced it. And again today same thing. This is so dangerous and getting to be very expensive. I see there was a recall about this issue but not my car. Very upset. Something needs to be done to correct this issue before someone causes an accident that could very well take someone's life. I have replaced the censor, battery and now two alternator's within 2 months.

55 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2009 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 02/11/2015

My Murano loses power while stopped or upon acceleration from a stopped position. All my vehicle lights inside and out flicker and flash. Theses lights include dome, dash, radio, outside lights headlights, park lights, brake lights. I've taken it to the dealer for diagnostic and they always say it's the battery. I've had 5 Nissan batteries in 5 years. I've had the alternator replaced with no relief for the electrical problems.

56 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2004 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 12/27/2014

I had the exact symptoms appear in my make/model as described in recall id #36089. This was a recall put out by Nissan many years back on similar vehicles. "an open circuit in the alternator can occur during wire fatigue caused by movement of the rotor coil during rapid changes in engine speed in vehicles equipped with a continuously variable transmission (cvt). Higher engine compartment temperature in the Murano compared to other Nissan models may also be a contributing factor to the wire fatigue. When an open circuit occurs in the alternator, the charge warning and brake warning lamps come on. If a driver does not seek repair of the vehicle immediately as instructed in the owners manual and continues to drive the vehicle in this condition, the vehicle will operate normally for about one hour. After this time period, the battery voltage will drop to a level that causes the engine control module to fall into a fail safe mode. During fail safe mode, which lasts about ten minutes, vehicle speed will be reduced due to a throttle plate being held in a fixed position. After this time period, the engine will stop running. " despite my model year and manufacturing date falling within the window for that recall, my specific VIN was not included in the recall. The issue was as described and repaired as a failed alternator. In efforts to get further answers as to the faulty part or recall applicability from multiple sources at Nissan, I have been provided with no real answers and am therefore filing this safety complaint.

57 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2007 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 11/27/2014

I was driving down hwy 100 in milwaukee at approximately 40 mph when the car suddenly died in the middle of the road, fortunately no accident was caused because of the sudden stop. The car would not start after this stop. I pushed the car into a nearby parking lot and took the battery into a local hardware store. The battery was dead and needed to be charged. I re installed the battery and got the car started (the engine sounded loud) and drove to the auto store and had the alternator tested - it was dead. I started to drive the car home and it would not go above 30 mph and the cel was on. The next morning I had the alternator replaced (Sunday), the battery kept it's charge. I took the vehicle to the Nissan dealer on Monday morning - they determined that the transmission needed to be replaced. I got my car back after 2 weeks and drove it home. I did notice that the there was a slight whine - I thought it was with the replaced transmission. I got louder each dayand I took it back to the Nissan dealer, but the noise would quit after it warmed up. The Nissan dealer determined that it was the high pressure power steering hose. These events appeared to be caused by a previous event - (1) alternator (2) transmission (3) high pressure power steering hose, all started November 27 2014, and lastly ended on February 10, 2015, hopefully.

61 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2010 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 07/02/2014

Was driving on the highway in a 55 mph zone and as we were driving the car lost acceleration, all dash lights were on as normal. We were lucky to coast off without being hit and we had our 10 months old with us. Had the car towed to local dealer and now 5 days later dealer called to let us know that they diagnosed alternator and battery failure, which is no longer covered. . We were not willing to pay the $1100 that the dealer quoted us so we had the same tow truck driver pick our car back up from the dealer and bring the car to our home. When the tow truck driver was unloading it off flatbed he cranked the car right up. We cranked it multiple times without issue. So we called the dealer again to let them know and they are standing by diagnosis. I feel that this car is a lemon as the head gaskets failed around 25000 miles. Have taken to dealer for burning smell issues multiple time since we bought it in March 2013. I'm also very concerned about the odors especially during pregnancy and driving infant around.

62 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2009 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 03/21/2014

We were driving and the car lost speed. We had the car towed to the Nissan dealer and they diagnosed that the battery had failed. This was the second new battery. Then, the car ran until the battery went dead and again the car stopped on the road in traffic without warning. Again the car was towed to the Nissan dealer and this time the problem was diagnosed as a bad alternator. Questions bought up that the 2008 Nissan Muranos had had a campaign to replace faulty alternators but not the 2009. The problem is that without warning light on the dash that there is a problem with the charging system, the car battery goes dead and the car stops while driving. The risk of catastrophic accident is extreme.

63 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2009 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 02/03/2014

Car would not start, everything work in the car, but it would start, put a new battery in the car and it work. A couple of days went by (car started every time) one day car did the same thing got another battery for it and car started and ran, 3rd time was down town the car would not run it started but would not move. Got it home finally started the car the next day cause I thought maybe it was the security on why it wouldn't drive. I started the car to let it warm up, went out 10 min. Later and the car was not running. Got another battery car started took it to the local cenex they check the car and said the alternator was not working. They did a test, when I would turn my lights on and heat the battery was draining. My son charged the last battery that was in my car and it took the charge and still is, so 3 battery cant be bad. Called Nissan to see about the recall on my Nissan, no my car was not, I called Nissan and they would not put my car on the list. I bought the car used and not sure where it came from my car is doing the same thing everyone is complaining about, if the alternator is bad cover it. . Plus the closes Nissan dealer is 3 to 4 hours away.

66 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2009 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 05/25/2013

The vehicle is registered in my daughters name. The Nissan dealership stated that there was a short in the alternator and the battery had completely burnt out due to it. That put the Murano into the "fail safe" mode. This occurred at a very dangerous intersection, leaving my daughter stranded in the #2 lane and there was not a shoulder available. After researching Murano's I found that it is just like what happen to the 2005 Murano's that had to recalled. After writing and calling Nissan, they refused to help with the matter. The NHTSA needs to push Nissan for a recall.

67 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2004 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 12/17/2012

I was stopped at traffic light, when light turned green I began to accelerate. I began to smell burning thru air vents and then at about 40 mph the car would not respond to my acceleration of gas pedal. I had lost all power and control of vehicle. The car behind me had to swerve suddenly to avoid me and it almost caused a serious wreck with my 4 children inside. I had battery checked and alternator checked and was told alternator was bad. Well I replaced alternator and wouldn't you know it 2 weeks later, the same incident occurred, I was going about 35-40 mph and it just quit again. And again my 4 kids were inside as I was driving them to school! I've called to inquire about the recall for this issue and am told mine doesn't qualify. I've seen so many people with this issue. Why isn't it being addressed. Will it take having my 4 kids inside involved in an awful wreck? we need someone to help with this before something bad has to happen!!.

Now for the past few days again the car lost starting losing power and back up, till today it completely died. So at the end we figured it was the alternator, found out online about other drivers with same issue with same model and year car and of a recall being done.
