Nissan Murano owners have reported 337 problems related to electrical system (under the electrical system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Nissan Murano based on all problems reported for the Murano.
The sunroof firmware programing failed and did not properly close the sunroof. There was no visible gap or signs of failed sealing. Recently, southern California was hit with two storms. Unfortunately, the vehicle became flooded due to leaking in the sunroof because it did not close properly. The safety of my passenger and myself were put at risk as the dashboard filled with water, hence compromising airbag safety and electronic components. No error or check lights were illuminated. The vehicle has been inspected by both the dealership and my auto insurance representative. There were zero warning lamps, messages, nor symptoms. Had the sunroof firmware been properly coded, this never would have happened.

After multiple repairs the brake light and battery light continue to come on. My vehicle turned off while driving. I believe it's a faulty voltage regulator for the alternator. This seems to be a common issue for my type vehicle.

My alternator has failed and I see where there was a recall on 2004 Nissan Murano for alternator/generator but its not showing a recall when I put my VIN in but it's doing exactly what it describes.

The contact's girlfriend owns a 2013 Nissan Murano. The contact stated that the driver’s side door would fail to unlock or lock from the outside. The dealer was called about the failure and informed the contact that the failure may be an electrical failure. The vehicle had yet to be inspected or diagnosed for the failure. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.

The contact owns a 2009 Nissan Murano. The contact stated that while his daughter was driving at an unknown speed, the passenger’s side air bag light flashed on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the battery was reset, and the warning light disappeared. A few weeks later, the warning light returned, and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer. The dealer diagnosed the failure with a defective sensor inside the passenger’s side seat. Upon investigation, the contact linked that failure to NHTSA campaign number: 08v521000 (air bags, electrical system). The manufacturer was notified and informed that contact that there were no open recalls on the vehicle. The contact was also provided a case number. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 200,000.

Hello, I would like to report a problem. Didnt really see anything about transmission on the choices listed above. Well I got this car used from someone. Didnt really noticed the transmission problem until I was driving it for a while on the freeway. The transmission is just so bad . It is stuck on 3rd gear all the way. At high speeds. So imagine, the engine is whining so bad. The car basically wants to give up now. Still starts, revers, goes foward with no problem. Shifting is the problem. Also, ive checked the transmission fluid. Its still at a perfect level. Yes, it has roughly 129,000 miles on it. But really? this car should be lasting longer. Please. I really dont want to pay out of pocket for a whole new transmission. Theres got to be a way or something you guys could do to help me and my family.
Vehicle randomly quits running while driving. Once stopped, it will typically restart after being put in park and usual parking, stopping, end running operations are performed. There are no warning lights of any kind prior to engine stopping. There are no codes and check engine light has not come on. My daughters safety is of primary concern, as well as other motorists. This happens at speed randomly with no warning. I have searched online and find numerous reports of this on forums and the usual dealer response is it couldn't be replicated. It has occurred between 5-10 times over the past 6-12 months. No accidents yet, but it is not a question of 'if' it is a question of 'when'.

My car horn recently stopped working when depressing the areas on the steering column with the horn icon. I almost got into multiple accidents, first when driving on the interstate and could not honk on aggressive drivers who sharply pulled in front of me when driving; and later when trying to park in a parking lot and another driver reversed into me because he could not see me and I could not honk to signal him that I was in his blindspot. I checked with my mechanic of 23 years and he found that there was no issue with the fuse or the horn itself - the horn activates when manually triggered. However, there is a problem with the relay from the steering column to the horn and with this Nissan model, that relay is integrated with the air bag in the steering column. It's possible that there's also an issue with the airbag but it's never had reason to deploy. Lodging this incident because the horn is a central part of any car safety system and there seems to be a manufacturer defect in the relay that is integrated into the steering column to trigger the horn.

My vehicle has been named in 4 recalls but my VIN number isn't included in any of them when I take it into the Nissan dealership even though every recall that has been reported is what has been either a recurring issue with my vehicle or something that has been starting to show some symptoms.
Traction control and forward collision detection trouble light comes on at random intervals. Reported multiple times to Nissan dealer and Nissan consumer affairs. Has been in the shop a total of 18 days during 4 occurrences. Nissan corporate will not heed the dealers advice to replace abs system. This safety issue is still unresolved and the vehicle is still in a service bay awaiting Nissan corporate direction.

2015-2019 Nissan Muranos have an on-going electrical hazard with the climate controlled seats. The electrical harness connector directly under the seat will fail and actually get so hot it will melt the plastic pieces! in fact, Nissan has issued it's own 15 page service bulletin warning to its dealers on the fire danger (el18-035, reference ntb19-004, dated 17 January 2019). This bulletin graphically shows pictures of how the harness connector and the seat control unit will get so hot they will melt and fail. It also details how local dealers should replace the defective connector and even how they should charge Nissan back for the repair (page 15 - primary part line claim). My 2016 Nissan Murano suffered the same drivers seat electrical failure recently. I visually verified the damaged (melted) connector under the seat and contacted my local Nissan dealer (youngblood Nissan, springfield mo. ). I provided them the Nissan alert information. The dealer is refusing to fix the known failure unless they are paid for the service work (estimated is over $300. 00)! given that this fire hazard covers four years worth of Nissan Murano production and the 2016-2019 titans, Nissan should fix the defective parts for free. While in my case there was no actual fire or damage beyond the melted electrical parts and loss of the seat climate control feature. . I have left the defective plug disconnected, still leaves me very concerned about they safety of myself and my family. I have attached images of both the internal Nissan service bulletin and an image of my melted and defective electrical plug. Thank you.
The contact owns a 2107 Nissan Murano. The contact stated that while their wife was driving approximately 70- 75 mph when the seat warmer for the rear seat had overheated and burned the seat and the blanket on the seat. The contact called the dealer who stated that the seat would need to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.

While driving the Murano it slowed down and wouldn't go above 20mph. After about a mile it just stopped running & wouldn't crank back up. All the fluids were at the right levels. Took it to a johnny's mechanic shop & they said it was the engine.
While driving I lost all power for the motor and had to have to battery replaced cuz lost all power.
As with the current Nissan recall the car just shutoff. On two separate occasions, one at highway speed on a high speed heavy traffic road and once of a neighborhood road. Both times spontaneously and without any warning or trouble lights or indications of a problem. Vehicles was towed and serviced at a Nissan dealership. . Both incidents were extremely dangerous one to get to shoulder in high speed traffic and to exit vehicle next to traffic and the other at night in a dark neighborhood. Dealer was without explanation on cause so we dont know if the problem is fixed or not. Prior request #602941.
Smoke was noticed inside the car while I was driving on a rural freeway in the blue mountains of oregon. The source of the smoke appeared to be the rear passenger set, right side. I pulled over. When I opened the door on the right side of the car, a large plum of smoke erupted from the rear seat. I then noticed a black, burned hole in the seat measuring about 10in x 10in. As quickly as it began, the combustion stopped. After a 20-minute wait the seat cooled off and I was able to proceed. Note that the rear seats were in the down position, and pillows were placed on the floor boards where passenger feet would normally be. Photo shows damage to the pillows. I suspect the origin of the fire was an electrical failure related to heated seats.

About 2 months ago, the display window showing audio selections, rearview camera, navigation, etc. Began rapidly jumping back and forth from screen to screen. Nothing I did, affected it, thus I wasn't able to change channels or get full view when backing up. When in reverse, 2 lines of text were displayed, blocking the camera view. One said, "display settings", but when I pressed it, nothing happened. Upon starting the car, the time varies as to when the irregularities begin. Sometimes it starts immediately, but other times it may appear normal for a few minutes and then start. But once it starts, it doesn't stop until the vehicle is turned off. It seems to be an electrical issue since nothing I've tried remedies it. In the "when did this happen" section below, I will put the approximate date the issue started, but as I said, it is a continuous problem.
As we were driving on a city street our 2016 Nissan Murano we could smell plastic melting or burning while having our driver seat heating system turned on. We turned off the heating system. Now, our driver seat heater does not turn on at all. We plan to take the vehicle to a Nissan dealership to get it diagnosed, but after doing some research online, we could read that many others dealt with this issue previously. The electrical harness under the drivers seat gets too hot and begins to melt. It seems that this is a safety issue due to a failure of the eletrical harness. I will have a specific diagnosis soon.
Transmission went only had the SUV for 4 months.
Unavailable front radar obstruction light comes on and stays on after driving. Problem occurs every time I drive more than a short distance. Light is never on when I start the car.
I have a 2018 Nissan Murano platinum awd. I will be driving on cruise control and it will turn off and the collision light lights up and car will come to a stop. The warning system gives a clue as to what is going on, it says radar obstruction. This happens at any speed, at random, with or without cruise control and has been happening many times a day for months, sometimes with the car behind me almost hitting my car because of the fault of the system. I took it to hgreg delray Nissan and they basically blew me off as if it wasn't an issue. The service manager actually told me to drive it and when the light comes on bring it back to him. They didn't even do a test drive! well, I left that dealer since they are unwilling to help out with what I think is a severe motor vehicle safety issue. I will continue my quest to get this fixed at another Nissan dealer. I have heard of a few people with the same issue having some success when the dealer has replaced the radar sensor.
I was driving the car and stopped at a red light. When I hit the gas to go when the light turned green the car would not go. It took about 20 seconds before it would go and when it did it acted like I had my foot on the gas pedal which I did not. It has done this numerous times. I replaced the fuel pump and took it to a mechanic twice. Nothing that has been done has fixed the problem. I have almost been rear ended several times due the fact that the car stalls.
Failure of the automatic open/close rear hatch. Requires excess force to manually open and close.
Rear door hatch inoperative.
While operating my vehicle on 6/27/2020 after 1hr of driving the car steering wheel would not turn almost causing an accident. I had to stop the car put in it park, turn the car off and then back on. When I tried to turn the car on and it hesitated then turn over. I then proceeded to turn the corner and the check engine light came on. This is the 2nd time this has happened and when I took car to car shop. The code was p0340, cam shaft position. I replace the cam shaft after this happened the first time. Now this has happened again, almost causing me to have an accident.
As I'm driving down the freeway with my cruise control on, a front collision warning indicator on the dashboard will appear which causes the cruise control to turn off resulting in braking/slowing on the freeway unexpectedly. This is a serious issue and is a concern for me and my family's safety as we are out driving on the roads. When it happens, there is nothing on the road or obstructing the sensor from performing its task.
Abs and front radar lights on cluster. I took the vehicle to the same dealer that sold it to me and they diagnosed the same with a problem on the abs actuator. The service representant also told me that the front radar on the bumper is related to the abs system and that the warranty of the vehicle on the electrical part does jot cover the same. I did my research and found that the 2016 Nissan Murano has aa manufacters recall from the abs ystem.
The liftgate won't open either with the key fob or mannualy every time I have to unhook the battery to reset vehicle was not in motion, opening the hood every time this happens to reset the liftgate is not ideal.
Vehicle has had to have motor in the engine replace. The cvt transmission completely stopped working causing the vehicle to stall and break down while driving on the highway. The electrical in the car went out and the car is no longer able to operate.
