My 2004 Nissan Murano se just recently passed 115,000 miles. I have been noticing a lack of power, some odd/various noises and just recently saw a puff of smoke out of the exhaust. Shortly after, the service engine soon light came on and I had the code verified at advance auto. Catalytic system failure on one of the banks. This type of failure is extremely common with Nissan vehicles utilizing the vq engine and typically results in backflow of catalyst material into the engine which in turn causes catastrophic failure to the pistons and piston rings. Replacement of the catalytic converters is highly difficult and generally costs around $2,500 at a dealer. Parts alone will cost in excess of $600 for aftermarket and $1,600 for oem. This issue generally happens between 80k and 120k miles on almost every altima, maxima and Murano and there are multiple forums in which various owners discuss this matter in grave detail. It is not a matter of if this will happen to these vehicles, it is a matter of when. I purchased this vehicle 1. 5 years ago and still owe mutltiple thousands of dollars on it. This is ridiculous. . .

They are telling me I have to replace my catalyt converter, because it is a government requirement. This is costing 3300. 00. Looking online, some cars, there was a recall on this part why wasn't there one on this car if it is having to be replaced? 2004 Nissan Murano. I can not afford something like this, and a family with my income can not. I am a single mother with two kids. Please let me know what I can do.
Dipstick is unreadable, as a result I have changed my oil every 1500miles instead of 3000, because if I wait till 3000 miles there is only a quart to quart and half left in the engine, this has been ongoing since I bought the car but never reported, although I did tell the autodealer repair center about it and got no response.

Since I bought this car from Nissan dealership its been one thing after the other first the catalytic converter was already broke when the sold it to us they turned the engine lite off prior to going for test drive the day we bought n rode home the lite came right back on & has been on since still is dealer said 1500$$ an they would fix it nice. . . The front seat broke, gas tank lid wouldn't open had to fix it, an now steering has went 640$$ to fix it ??.
Check engine light came on and the car was missing as it was driven. Took it to mechanic and they discovered that the #1 cylinder had no compression. This is with only 70,000 miles on it. It ended up needed a valve job - $3,200. When they took off that part of the engine to have it machined, they discovered that the rear catalytic converter failed and the front one was about to fail. In the case of the cylinder issue and the catalytic converter issue I was able to visually see and confirm what they were talking about. They said that the pieces of the failed rear catalytic converter more than likely got sucked back into the cylinder, scratching the surface of it and causing the compression loss. Since there was a failure of the catalytic converters and it was under the 8year/80,000 limit I called Nissan looking for reimbursement on at least the catalytic converters cost. They said they were under warranty until 2011, which is eight years, but that it wasn't covered because it would only be covered if there was a recall. That is not what the epa fact sheet epa420-f-96-020 says. I will try to contact another nisan location about this issue as they would not help me or transfer me to anyone else. So I needed a valve job and two new catalytic converters because of this. At this point, the old catalytic converters are not available.
I have a Murano where the air intake keeps coming loose and won't stay therefore making the car stall on the interstate while trying to pick up speed. It's been fixed once but it still keeps happening. I can't pull into traffic for the fear the car will cut off.

In February of this year, my 2006 Nissan Murano began to stall as I was driving. I brought my car into the dealership and was told that the bello boot was loose. I paid to have the fuel injection system cleaned. Could this be related to recall #09v16900.
Catalytic converter failure at 125k miles.
I bought my SUV new in June 2003. A month after it started shutting off as if it was out of gas. The dealer stated that nothing was wrong with it. They took it for a week and "fixed" the problem after my insistence. A month later the radio and all the power sockets in my car started kicking out and I went through a box of 300 fuses. Again, the dealer said that there was nothing wrong. The scariest problem is that my car will just stall out in stop and go traffic. I told them of this problem 18 months after I got the car. It was still under warranty. They stated that there was nothing wrong with the car and that I needed the mile service to be done as well as a transmission flush. This was done for $500 and the problem still occurred. I recently found out that it is a throttle body that the car needs. The part is $160. The service is $2000. I have been telling them that I had this problem for three years. It was just diagnosed, by a mechanic other than Nissan due to my fear after a near accident. I was trying to make a left hand turn and the car would not drive or move. I was in the intersection and my daughter was in the back seat. My foot was to the floor on the pedal. I screamed out of the impending accident. The oncoming car unaware of my dilemma slowed down and dipped to the other lane but not after blowing the horn at me. The catalytic converter was replaced twice in a 2 year period. This is ridiculous. By the way the car was recalled 3 times in a three year period. I need help. I have spent $7000 in repairs to the car since I bought it. I have all the receipts from Nissan for the service.
