1 Engine Failure problem of the 2009 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 07/31/2019

I have a repeated electrical issue with my car. At first, I thought my issue was diagnosed improperly but I was recently on the NHTSA page and found over 20 complaints that expressed the same exact issue I have been having. That issue being the fact that my car, when in motion will completely shut off on me and go into neutral. This will happen without any warning and for me has happened both times on the highway while going 75 mph. Once the car stalls out, the power steering will also go out in about 30 seconds and the engine will completely shut off at that time. Therefore, you have about 30 seconds to roll your car to a safe spot in order to avoid a crash. There is no turning the car off and then back on, as when you try to do so all of the dash lights will come on and the engine will not start back up as the battery is dead or close to it. If you are lucky you can get jumped but the battery becomes so drained that it cannot even hold a charge for a miles worth of power. Both times I have had to have my Murano towed into a shop. The first time this issue occurred I was told I need my battery replaced as it was dead and that was the cause of my engine failure. This sounded strange to me at the time, as the battery that I had was a little less than a year old but I was just wanting to pickup a working car and put this behind me. My car worked properly for 48 days before I again, had the same exact issue occur to me, while again traveling on the highway going 75 mph. This time, there was not adequate space on the highway to pull over and I had to call 911 in order to avoid a crash. Again, I had my car towed and was now told it was an issue with the alternator, which I then had replaced. I am now worried this issue will reoccur as people are stating they have had their alternator replaced 2 and 3 times and are still being put in these scary, engine failure situations.

2 Engine Failure problem of the 2003 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 01/04/2008

The contact owns a 2003 Nissan Murano. While driving 20 mph, the engine warning light illuminated and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle would not restart and was towed. The dealer stated that the engine needed to be replaced because the rear sensor in the engine failed. The repair was not made. The manufacturer stated that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign id number 03v455000 (engine and engine cooling). The current and failure mileages were 91,000.

3 Engine Failure problem of the 2005 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 12/06/2007

I own a 2005 Nissan Murano. The first time it the engine failed was on my way home from work. I started the car and it shuttered a little, then stopped. I restarted the car after waiting a few seconds and it kept running just fine. On my way home, I stopped off at a local store to run an errand. When I attempted to start my car again, it shuttered and shook, then shut off. I attempted a second time to start the car, but it wouldn't "turn over". The car was towed to browns Nissan of arlington in virginia, where we bought the vehicle 2 years ago. They could not get the car started either, proceeded to push the car into the garage, and then miraculously, it started up as if nothing was wrong! this morning, my husband went to start the car for me because it was cold and the engine failed again. We plan to call the dealership, as they have promised to incur any towing costs in order to get the car into the shop. Regardless, we are taking it back, even if we can get it to start.
