2 Equipment problem of the 2016 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 07/30/2025

I am reporting a serious intermittent safety issue with my 2016 Nissan Murano, which I recently purchased from a private seller. On multiple occasions, the vehicle suddenly stops accelerating after driving for approximately 20–30 minutes, including multiple local stops. When this occurs, the engine continues to run, but the car becomes completely unresponsive to throttle input and cannot be moved, even when placed into gear. This has happened in live traffic situations, posing a clear risk to safety. In each instance, after the car sits for a period of time or is connected to an external battery charger, it eventually restarts and operates normally—until the issue repeats. There are no warning lights or messages on the dashboard, and no diagnostic trouble codes are stored in the system. I brought the vehicle to an authorized Nissan dealership, where it remained for over a month. They reported being unable to reproduce the issue and could not identify any mechanical or electrical faults. The alternator tested fine, and they returned the vehicle to me with no repairs or resolution. Since that time, the issue has occurred again. I believe this may involve: a low-voltage electrical problem, possibly a blown fusible link or intermittent charging system failure a bad ground or wiring fault affecting the ecm, tcm, or fuel pump a voltage-sensitive sensor or relay malfunction that fails under heat or load but does not log a fault a condition causing the cvt transmission to disengage due to insufficient power this issue has rendered the vehicle dangerous and unreliable, especially since it fails with no warning and then unpredictably recovers. I am filing this complaint in hopes that NHTSA will investigate this failure pattern, which appears to be consistent with known Nissan electrical and cvt system complaints in other model years. If this is a known defect, Nissan should be held accountable for providing a resolution, even outside of warranty.

4 Equipment problem of the 2023 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 07/23/2025

I purchased a 2023 Nissan Murano from sunset kia in auburn, washington. The vehicle was listed online with 37,334 miles and this was the mileage discussed throughout the sales process. However, after finalizing the paperwork and taking possession of the vehicle, I noticed that the actual mileage on the odometer was over 42,500 miles—more than 5,000 miles higher than advertised. I contacted the dealership immediately. They told me the discrepancy was due to a sales manager driving the vehicle during the time it was listed and that they "forgot to update" the mileage in the online listing. This explanation raises concern for me, as I believe I was misled during the transaction. If the odometer disclosure form and the listing did not reflect the true mileage, this may constitute odometer fraud or at least a violation of federal and state disclosure laws. I am requesting that this situation be investigated. I have documentation including screenshots of the original listing and text message communication with the dealership confirming the listed mileage.

6 Equipment problem of the 2009 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 06/05/2025

We bought our 2009 Murano new back when we were expecting our baby cause it was rated one of the safest SUV on the market. For the most part besides some brake issues and the steering linkage that I had scheduled to have replaced last month its treated us well. Last month with our now 17yr old daughter I took it to go to a concert an hr from our house. On the highway I felt it swaying which I found weird cause it was swaying from the rear of the vehicle not the front where the linkage is. We drove home slowly and the next day I dropped it off at our mechanics to have the linkage replaced and asked him to check out the sway I felt. He immediately called me after he got it on the lift and said I needed to head to the shop that our SUV was junk! when I got there I could not believe my eyes and thanked god that I and even more my daughter made it home safely. My mechanic of 35yrs in business said we were lucky we didn't end up in the woods on the highway and that the entire rear k member/ frame is completely rotted out and the rear tires could have flown off at any moment. I have read that there is a recall on this issue but not in the salt belt states. That is ridiculous and is an excuse to not have to back your vehicle. We live in dartmouth MA and have barely had any snow in the past 10 yrs to salt for and even if we had this hasn't happen to any other vehicles we own. 2003gmc, 2006 SAAB and my wifes Jeep all gd. Whats the point of getting a safety check during the annual inspection when you know your frame is junk and its a death trap!how in good faith can you not back your products when this is clearly a major issue. Nissan needs to do the right thing and take care of the people who have taken care of them by buying there vehicles. This vehicle has always been meticulously maintained, washed constantly at car wash with the extra fee of undercarriage spray for what when its rotting from the inside out as you are aware off. Make it a recall before people get killed!.

7 Equipment problem of the 2021 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 06/02/2025

I’m not sure what this problem may be but I was at the traffic light with my foot on the brake and the car just accelerated by itself which was very frightening to my and my grandkids I had to pump the brakes twice before it almost ran into the car in front of me. So the engine rises also when this happens.

8 Equipment problem of the 2016 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 05/31/2025

I have been experiencing complete driving failure with my 2016 Nissan Murano. It shutdowns randomly without any warning well driving in traffic. I have already experienced being put in a crash risk three times. I have been trying to work with the dealer for almost 2 months now, only to receive my SUV with the same issue. I am terrified to be forced to put my children in such a high risk automobile as this is supposed to be our reliable transportation. I am highly disappointed and uncomfortable with the dealership stating repeatedly they don’t know what’s wrong with my vehicle as they are no codes to factually state the real issue. In the process I am being told I need to pay for highly priced repair guesses or problems that have been generated in their care trying to figure things out. The vehicle has even stopped on them while driving. After driving off their lot twice only to be stranded and put in a crash risk I am not comfortable with being rushed to pick up this vehicle without total safety concerns being addressed. Nissan has not addressed my concerns about their vehicles having recalls about this same issues, only stating it doesn’t show up for my VIN# well why am I having the same exact problem? the safety risks of the vehicle failing in the mist of traffic with absolutely no warning is a huge life threatening risk and shouldn’t be of the hardship of my family as I immediately had it towed to the dealership to assure safety for all. I purchased what I thought would be a safer longevity vehicle to transport my children. I am really having a difficult time with understanding of my concerns are of top priority. As I do appreciate being given a rental while they try a figure it out. My major concerns are being given the vehicle back at the same exact safety issues or worse. Please your cooperation in assistance in this matter is greatly appreciated.

9 Equipment problem of the 2006 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 05/17/2025

Drivers seat is not sitting right almost seems like it came unhinged. Driving on a short distance trip I noticed that every time I needed to turn and it the road was windy I could smell fuel and it seems like I was loosing gas as I was driving like it was punchard or spilling some how. . I'm no mechanic but as a pregnant woman I was absolutely nauseous from going only an hour away. Also it seemed like I would periodically loose power and at one point actually had to pull over and let the vehicle air out and cool down. Seems like the was a situation with the coolant as well had to replace the cap and it looks as though that had been a issue with the previous owner as well.

10 Equipment problem of the 2017 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 04/02/2025

Rear lift-gate failed to latch. Paid for assessment and repair in August 2024. I was told it could occur again that there is hatch issue with this vehicle. Eight months later, the rear lift-gate failed to latch again. I took it back to the dealership. While driving, it is unsafe as the warning lights are flashing on the dash and an alarm is screeching for the entirety of the trip. You cannot safely drive a vehicle when the door will not latch. After inspection of the vehicle, they advised to repair the lock assembly($770) though $180 was paid at first assessment . I was told this may not be the final solution to the problem. This time there was no discussion of the hatch issue with this vehicle. Hmmm, there is an online forum for other Nissan owners with the same problem. I never received any warning lamps prior to the issue. The rear lift hatch was working until it wasn't. Thank goodness I was not on a road trip (I have two adult children who live out of state). It is unnerving and unsafe to drive while all of the warning lights and sounds are on all while your rear door is unable to latch. In my opinion, this is a safety issue. There have been two class action suits on the 2017 Murano. One for foggy headlamps and one for the cvt transmission. I did not join the suits. At the time I was contacted, my headlamps were not foggy, now they are. Knock on wood, I have no issues with my transmission. I can drive safely with foggy headlamps. I can not drive safely when my rear door will not latch. There are 3 buttons for this feature (the dash, the rear door, and the glove box). The button in the glove box allows you to turn off the auto lift feature. Even when you turn it off, the door will not latch. In my opinion, there is a faulty design. This should be a recall, not a repair. I am long past the days of soccer and basketball tournaments where a rear door gets a workout. It's just me. Having a door close and latch seems fundamental to the safety of a vehicle.

11 Equipment problem of the 2012 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 04/01/2025

The rear subframe has rusted through due to road salt and made the vehicle unsafe to drive.

12 Equipment problem of the 2019 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 02/05/2025

I was on interstate traveling 65 mph. Sounded like gunshot or explosion. I pulled over as soon as I could. Walked around vehicle saw nothing, I stepped on side of car to look at roof. The sunroof was shattered. I drove back home and noticed very fine glass falling into the car while I was driving.

13 Equipment problem of the 2007 Nissan Murano

14 Equipment problem of the 2023 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 11/10/2024

On [xxx] I was driving back down [xxx] , stopped at red light and when light changed to green, I proceeded to take off and as I got under the interstate overpass my vehicle abruptly started slowing down as if it was going to shut completely down and the panel in the dash turned red with a symbol of a car. There was a vehicle coming directly behind me and I am thankful they were not following me closely because it may have caused them to hit me from behind. A few seconds later the vehicle picked up speed and the red warning light disappeared quickly. 11/11/24 I made a call to Nissan consumer affairs to create a case (case#[xxx]) and representative opened and closed the case without escalating to a specialist for review. On 11/13/24 I took the vehicle into a Nissan dealership to perform a diagnostic on the vehicle and no code was found. I was told to bring the vehicle back in for a full day to troubleshoot. With all of the safety features this vehicle has, I thought issues like this would be recorded. I asked the service advisor if anyone else has reported this issue and he stated not on the 23 Murano but have received reports of other Nissan vehicles just shutting down. This could have been a very bad situation and Nissan consumer affairs did not seem to care when this issue was brought to their attention. Also have reported issue with brake pedal squeaking and wheel slipping when making short turn on driver's side. Issues are never found by the dealership in most cases, until the warranty runs out which is very short (3yrs 36,000). I attempted to upload document to support my trip to dealership, but received message that file is too large. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

15 Equipment problem of the 2018 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 10/17/2024

System: electrical system / exterior lighting / visibility / unknown or other VIN: 5n1az2mh6jn199173 mileage: approx. 93,500 date: October 2024 issue: my vehicle displays abnormal light and energy-based behavior after a service visit. These include daytime lighting under the door, plasma-like red beam scattering at night, and windshield arcs that reflect light unnaturally. Heat radiates through the cabin and undercarriage even after shutoff. These symptoms suggest possible aftermarket or electromagnetic system manipulation and create serious visibi.

16 Equipment problem of the 2011 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 08/12/2024

Hi I see this vehicle had a recall campaign previously under notice p1261/ntb12-003/ntb14-076. This campaign includes the replacement of the links and other items under this campaign. This vehicle is a convertible and the top frame is once again damaged due to the same recall for links. I recently took the vehicle to lorenzo Nissan as the top is not working. They advised the frame links are bound, and the frame needs to be replaced. As this was covered under previous recall, the recall is obviously not adequate.

17 Equipment problem of the 2009 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 07/23/2024

When starting my vehicle, it would shake and hesitate to turn on. While driving, it would hesitate when accelerating. When driving at 70 miles, the vehicle would hesitate then drop 3 to 4 miles below speed on its own. The dashboard would indicate drive mode then change to reverse mode then back to drive mode, then reverse mode continuously while driving. The car was also making a loud clanking noise. When I was at a standstill at a red light with foot on the brake, the car was jerking forward on its own. I was driving the car with my 2 year old when this happened and decided to take it to a mechanic who confirmed that it is a transmission problem as well as a broken axle on the left. I left the car at his shop and started shopping around for a transmission replacement which is very costly. My concern is, if this has been a faulty issue with 2009 Nissan Murano transmissions, then it is likely that this can happen again if I purchase a used transmission which at this time, I cannot afford so it is sitting at the mechanics repair shop until I either save money for a transmission or use the money to get a better used vehicle. At this time I have to take my mom to work and use her car so I can go to work. I’ve been doing this for the past 2 weeks and unsure as to how much longer I can keep doing this as our work hours are conflicting.

18 Equipment problem of the 2019 Nissan Murano

19 Equipment problem of the 2016 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 07/02/2024

July 2024 traction warning kept appearing on a daily basis. I have pushed traction off button which both remain on then when car is off (for about 15min or so) then both disappear. However soon afterwards if I keep driving it will appear again - my fear, twice the traction warning appeared and without putting on traction off my vehicle stalled - it was in a frozen state - couldn't move steering wheel -then slowly began moving at 5mph until traction off was pushed and slowly began running again - but my car does not drive past 65mph on freeway? these are normal streets I'm driving, no pot holes etc. Finally able to get appt with my local mechanic klipper automotive for August 30th.

21 Equipment problem of the 2019 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 06/01/2024

Regarding other, there is apparently an issue regarding the sunroofs in Nissan vehicles and severe leaking inside the car that causes issues regarding the flooring and possible electrical components. The second issue regarding the wheels is Nissan uses a term called "swollen lug nuts". They wanted to charge almost 1k to change the lugs and finally rotate my tires.

22 Equipment problem of the 2010 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 05/04/2024

I began hearing a rattling sound coming from the rear of the vehicle. I believed it was possibly the suspension, as the vehicle would also bounce more often than expected when going over any irregularities in the road (potholes, speed bumps, normal wear on roads, etc). I brought it to the dealership where I purchased the vehicle, and they found no issues. I had previously replaced all 4 tires and brakes before hearing this sound, and nothing was brought to my attention then, either. The noise continued, and I brought the vehicle to another mechanic, where the damage was found immediately. The frame had corroded to the point where the mechanic advised me to not even drive home, rather have the vehicle towed to the dealership to be assessed and checked for a recall. Multiple incidents similar to mine have been found - all starting after 100k miles - but none have resulted in an official recall notice.

23 Equipment problem of the 2009 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 04/24/2024

Car has 120 000. Miles on it. Subframe is completely rotten and broken. Undriveable!!!!!! well know on 2009 Murano's. What can Nissan do about this?.

24 Equipment problem of the 2007 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 03/04/2024

Upon driving the vehicle, it became apparent that the subframe had broke off causing the left rear tire to turn inward/outward. This particular part had become very eroded/corroded causing this part to break causing the vehicle to be inoperable. The vehicle was operating at a speed of 5-10mph at the time of the malfunction.

25 Equipment problem of the 2010 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 03/02/2024

Vehicle jerked and drove erratically. Would slowly stall and would not move while accelerating.

26 Equipment problem of the 2010 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 02/18/2024

While driving 70+ mph on a federal highway at night, I heard a loud explosion noise followed by glass raining into my vehicle cabin. (the shade was open. ) we quickly closed the shade which caused a few more shards of glass to fall into the car. The noise caused by air vibrating the sunroof shade was nearly deafening but we were two hours drive away from home and decided to continue driving praying that no one would toss a cigarette butt or anything similar out of their car where it might land on our now-exposed roof. It wasn’t until we were able to exit to a gas station that we could see the extent of the damage and take photos.

27 Equipment problem of the 2007 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 02/05/2024

We had is in for a NY state inspection and was told that this would not pass for next year because of the sub frame. They said this would cost $4'000 !!!! we can,t pay that! why can't Nissan take care of this and stand behind your cars!.

28 Equipment problem of the 2018 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 01/27/2024

This car is filling with water. Apparently hundreds of people have reported this in all different model years. The car has a moonroof and the drains are not installed correctly. There is water in spare tire well and running into dash as well as into break lights. Nissan should be fixing this for everyone. The cars should be recalled. I hate to think this will require a class action.

29 Equipment problem of the 2018 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 01/26/2024

On several occasions now I have gone to exit the car from the drivers side and it just didn’t open. It behaved as though a child lock engaged and it would only open after manually flipping lock repeatedly. Was scary to feel trapped in car.

30 Equipment problem of the 2011 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 12/10/2023

Rear subframe corrosion and break. Front subframe perfectly ok, obviously under the exact same driving conditions. There was a recall for this exact same problem on the Nissan Murano 2007 models but unfortunately no recall on the 2011 model.

31 Equipment problem of the 2015 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 12/06/2023

Car began shaking on acceleration and low speeds and wouldn't stop shaking until approx 40mph or above. Upon braking to take a right hand turn car died, just stopped accelerating even though all lights on and running. No response at all when pushing pedal to the floor. Would go in reverse but only very low speed. Replaced alternator. Seemed ok but 4 months later same exact problem happened and car is not drivable again.

32 Equipment problem of the 2007 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 12/05/2023

I had noticed that my car would sway when driving around a curve or when switching lanes and was going to take it to the shop to be checked out, but my back passenger tire went flat on my way home from work which was odd because they were brand new tires. When I went to change the tire I noticed that the inside of the tire was completely worn and wires were sticking out. I drove home at 35-40mph because the sway was even worse with the spare tire. I had a mechanic come to my home to check the car out because I was afraid to drive it any further. When he jacked the car up to see what was going on, upon inspection he noticed the sway bar had come loose on the passenger and driver side of the car and that the sub frame on the driver side of the car was completely rusted through. The mechanic was able to reattach the sway bar, but advised not to drive it until the sub frame could be fixed. I contacted a certified welder and had my car towed to the welder to have the frame welded back together. The certified welder was only able to partially weld the frame and stated that the car would need the frame replaced because it was too rusted out to properly fix and that it was not safe to drive. Now I’m without a vehicle even though the car is in great running condition because the frame is unable to be fixed and the cost to buy a new frame and have the work done is more than the car kbb values the car for. I don’t know why this issue hasn’t been recalled and fixed. I could have crashed and died and my children left without a mother. It’s sad to see so many complaints and nothing done about it.

33 Equipment problem of the 2020 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 11/03/2023

I was driving my vehicle on the freeway at a speed of 60 mph when all of a sudden the sun roof part of my panoramic roof shattered all over my interior of my car and myself. It blew up all over me and was quite disturbing let alone could of caused an accident or glass could of cut my eyes. I was quite shaken up. I contacted my insurance and working a claim to have it replaced. Then I find out this has been common in Nissan vehicles for a long time and law suits because of it, too. These sunroofs allegedly exploded because of their design. Instead of laminating the glass in the sunroofs, the lawsuits claimed, Nissan used thin pieces of tempered glass instead of thicker pieces. The reason why Nissan allegedly did this, according to the suits, is so that the sunroof could be lighter and, thus, the vehicle could get better fuel economy. The lawsuits also alleged the japanese automaker applied ceramic enamel around the edges of the sunroofs, weakening the strength of the glass. I also sent an email to Nissan but doubt if I will hear from them. What is being done by the safety commission in regard to this matter so this doesn't happen to other customers of these vehicles?.
