Nissan Murano owners have reported 11 problems related to front seat head restraint (under the seats category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Nissan Murano based on all problems reported for the Murano.
Beginning about 1 month ago I noticed some unusual noise and movement of the driver's seat while driving. The problem worsened quickly, making a crunching metal noise and becoming increasingly unstable during driving with the left rear of the seat moving up and down. It now moves with only slight manual pressure applied to the left side of the seat. Upon investigating the structure under the seat, I found a support bracket weld has completely separated. The drastic movement of the seat seems dangerous, slightly changing the drivers position behind the wheel, possibly altering control of the vehicle, the position behind the airbag, and certainly affecting restraint in the event of a crash. Online research shows many, many similar problems with this bracket weld, but Nissan has not issued a recall. This poor quality part failed, could result in damage, injury, or death, but will require me to pay $1100 to fix.

Noticed one day that the seat was wobbly. Took it to my mechanic and he said that a manufacturer's weld had failed. This is a huge safety concern, as if I am in an accident, the seat will not restrain me. Did research online, and apparently this is a huge issue with all 2003-2007 Nissan Muranos. I feel that this should absolutely be recalled and paid for by manufacturer.

The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Murano. The contact stated that while driving, the seat fractured and the headrest reclined backward. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer yet the manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was out of warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 76,200.
On 12/28/10 I was returning from a skiing trip and stopped with my kids for some fast food. Upon returning to my 2006 Nissan Murano, I opened the door and as soon as I sat on the drivers seat, I heard a "bang" and the left rear side of the driver's seat sank. Upon further inspection I found that the left rear mounting bracket on the seat had snapped. My vehicle is 5 yrs. Old and I just hit 165,000 miles. Over the years, I have owned 8 other cars prior to this Murano and have put mileage on them ranging from 157,000 (chevy malibu) to 98,000 (Dodge spirit) and have never experienced such a problem. A seat bracket is a non-moving part and is critical to driver/passenger safety in that it keeps the occupant stable so that the seat belts can properly restrain in the event of a crash. Now when I sit in the seat I tip to the left (towards the door) and the seat moves up/down when I make turns. This is not a safe condition. I have seen many complaints about this problem in internet forums and it just seems ridiculous to me that a metal, non-moving part situated inside the vehicle (and not subject to rust or whether) that is so critical to safety should just spontaneously fail. If I were a larger person, I could possibly understand, however, at 200lbs. I am not much out of the range of the average american male and such a part should be designed to handle such stresses. God knows how this bracket would have handled a crash! this problem needs to be rectified via a recall as it appears that Nissan dealers are charging from $500 to $1,200 to repair this problem. Totally unacceptable for a safety related component!!.
This is a safety issue that affects all 2005 Nissan Muranos. The drivers seat support has a design flaw making the vehicle unsafe to drive, the flaw is in the design and construction of the driver's seat support. It makes the support support so fragile that it breaks, thus disconnecting the seat from the seat rail. This support will break during an accident, or suddenly, without warning, while the car is in motion. If broken during an accident, the seat will not perform acceptably as part of the safety restraint system; (the safety restrain system is comprised of the seat, the seat belts, and the airbags. They work together to minimize injury in the event of an accident. With the seat loose, the entire system's function is fatally compromised); aggravated injuries or unnecessary death may result. If the failure occurs while driving, the design flaw could cause an accident. In my car, the seat broke while driving at slow speed, making a left turn in a residential area. There was no warning, just an noise, and the seat suddenly was loose. I took it in for repair immediately, the mechanic stated that he has seen several of these recently, Nissan is stonewalling customers on this, the repair is very expensive. Thus many are choosing to continue to drive their car with the seat broken, in order to avoid the high cost of repair. This represents a growing population of unsafe vehicles on the road. As stated above, these vehicles are not only unsafe for their owner/drivers, they also represent a risk to others sharing the road.
The drivers seat left attachment bracket failed in the bent portion of the bracket. The seat is unstable. The seat positioning system is still operable. In an accident, the seat would not be restrained.
Nissan Murano 2005 front driver seat has come loose on one side, is lopsided and rocks back and forth while car is in motion, while turning, braking and when it comes to a stop. Even while you are wearing your seat belt you have no safety restraint as your body is projected forward and sideways from your seat while driving. I weigh 170 and my wife, who is the primary driver weighs 125 lbs. During one driving incident,my wife was averting a tree limb on the road and made a quick, but slow turn only to be jostled to the side of the car and hitting her head on the driver window. Luckily she was not injured as the turn was minimal. Nothing extraordinary happened to lead to the seat break. One day my wife sat in the seat and noticed it felt funny. The seat repair is not under warranty. Cost of repair would be upwards of $1200. An amount we cannot afford.
The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Murano. The contact stated that while driving 30 mph, the drivers seat head restraint began move to move back. The contact was unable to reposition the seat. The dealer inspected the vehicle and stated that the drivers seat assembly was broken needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was not notified. The failure and current mileages were 63,363.
2005 Murano seat rail snapped / failed. Seat detached from seat mount on left side drivers side. Seat is now loose and unstable / not factory secured to mounting rail system. This is a severe hazard as proper operations of restraint and airbag systems cannot be guaranteed with the seat not properly attached to frame.
Approximately 15 months ago, our drivers side seat broke underneath the seat causing the seat to lean to the left against the drivers side door. I took the seat out to see what had happened and found the metal frame support bar underneath the seat had snapped. We called the dealer and they told us to bring it in and it could cost upwards of $500 initially. I decided to fix the seat myself and re-weld the metal. I contacted Nissan to see if they would do anything feeling that this is a huge safety concern being that the seat is part of the restraint system and they told me to take it to the dealer which I did, then, to have the dealer contact them. The dealer charged me $107 to take the seat out look at it, print off some papers and put it back in the car. Nissan then contacted me and denied any accountability for the defect, told me I was over warranty and furthermore that I voided the warranty when I fixed my own seat. I am outraged that there has not been a recall on such an important part of the car! as I check with parts people or even do research online about this problem it's clearly evident that this is a major problem with this car and everyone knows it. I have fixed this seat 3 times over the past 15 months and I am fed up with it. Nissan wants $1000 to fix this. I think that sucks and they should be standing by their product and fixing it like a real reputable company would. The website I read several stories on was carcomplaints. Com. Can you help?.
