1 Mid/rear Seats Assembly problem of the 2018 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 12/25/2020

Smoke was noticed inside the car while I was driving on a rural freeway in the blue mountains of oregon. The source of the smoke appeared to be the rear passenger set, right side. I pulled over. When I opened the door on the right side of the car, a large plum of smoke erupted from the rear seat. I then noticed a black, burned hole in the seat measuring about 10in x 10in. As quickly as it began, the combustion stopped. After a 20-minute wait the seat cooled off and I was able to proceed. Note that the rear seats were in the down position, and pillows were placed on the floor boards where passenger feet would normally be. Photo shows damage to the pillows. I suspect the origin of the fire was an electrical failure related to heated seats.

That's when I rock the seat and knew it was broken. I was driving back from out of town and had over 140 miles to make it home. My passenger google for information on youtube and found this had happened before with other Murano. The manufacturer has not issued any recall on a defects with their seats. Nissan has not informed me on any recall with this vehicle. Some type of assistance with this major equipment need to be address quickly. 7 Mid/rear Seats Assembly problem of the 2007 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 09/07/2014

While driving my wife heard pop and driver's seat broke dipping to the left at rear of seat. I've investigated this matter and seat will cost over $1,000 to replace and is a common problem. Can't understand why if this is a common problem this is not subject to a recall. From the number of complaints it looks to me as though the metal used to make the seat bracket is not sturdy, or defective metal is being used.

10 Mid/rear Seats Assembly problem of the 2006 Nissan Murano

I have a 2006 Murano. I was driving road and my drivers seat drop to the left side. This almost threw me in the back seat. I had to swirl to keep from hitting a car. I had my kid in the car with me. 11 Mid/rear Seats Assembly problem of the 2006 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 06/07/2013

When my wife was driving the vehicle she heard a loud pop and suddenly the seat fell to the left agains the drivers side door. She almost lost control of the vehicle and had to pull to the side of the road. When she got out of the car to see what happened she noticed that the seat was very unstable and when pushed to the center of the car with one finger was no longer attached to the floor of the car. When I was called to insoect the vehicle I found that the frame of the drivers side seat had sheared into two pieces and in fact she was right. The seat was no longer attached to the floor on the left side of the seat. I looked this up on the web and there are hundreds of complaints about this same thing happening to other americans who bought this car. Note: this car is a 2006 but, my wife only drives it on the weekends and the car has very low mileage as ndicated above. This is a very bad safety issue as the seat could now break loose on the other side and the whole seat could wind up falling into the rear seat area. This would definitely cause a loss of control of the vehicle when the steering wheel would be ripped out of the drivers hands and their feet would be pulled away from the gas and the brake pedals.

There are hundreds of reports on the internet of this part failing in many years of the Murano vehicle and an updated stronger part is now available. This has been an on going probelm with the Murano and feel this type of incident should be the subject of a recall and repaired for no cost to the owner.

13 Mid/rear Seats Assembly problem of the 2006 Nissan Murano

16 Mid/rear Seats Assembly problem of the 2006 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 07/02/2012

The drivers seat left bracket broke free from frame, causing the seat to tilt to the left and wobble when you drive and take corners. After research online, there are thousands of cases of this with the Murano and no one seems to be getting a recall off the ground. It is the same weld the same side of the same seat in each Murano, how much logic does it take to get this under recall? this is a safety hazard as the chair is unstable. Also common sense tells us with the left side broken the right side weld is under more stress and physics will prove it will break as well leaving the driving seat unattached completely and the driver using the steering wheel to keep from being thrown into the back seat. I called Nissan and got a bunch of bs propaganda double speak and feel like any complaint I was trying to file was crumpled and tossed into the trash before I was even off the phone. I have loved my Murano up to this point, but since Nissan won't stand behind their work or correct what is clearly a manufacter's defect, then I will not be buying another one. Ever!.

While driving along, I took a slight turn and heard a crack sound. All of a sudden the back left corner of my driver seat fell, upon stopping the vehicle, I found I can now easily "rock" my driver seat up/down. 26 Mid/rear Seats Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 06/19/2010

Nissan Murano VIN-[xxx] - driver side front seat rear frame defect my vehicle driver side rear seat frame broke on 06/19/2010 approximately around noontime. As I was driving my Murano Nissan and came to a stop at a stoplight, I heard a hard snap and felt a little jerk towards my left side. Unsure of what it was, I continued to drive my vehicle down the road. As I was driving my vehicle, I felt a rough thumping underneath my seat. I thought for a minute that my front driver side tire was going flat or had some kind of problem. As I drove further to find a safe place to pull over to check it, I felt my front seat sway back and forth, as I accelerated and as I was braking. I accelerated again to make sure that the swaying motion was actually happening. Again, the swaying motion (back and forth) of the front seat occurred. I looked underneath the front driver side rear seat and saw what looked like a black metal track frame supporting the seat. In the area towards the rear left side of the frame was one of four metal prongs that were broken away from the metal track frame of the seat. Knowing that this was a very unsafe issue, I looked for help to resolve the issue as soon as possible. Using the internet, I found numerous shocking complaints sites regarding Nissan Muranos rear seat breakage. I contacted a local news station (3onyourside), who investigated the issue and found it to be legitimate and true. Not only was my vehicle in question about the defective part, several hundred complaints were found throughout the internet. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

30 Mid/rear Seats Assembly problem of the 2004 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 08/01/2009

My 2004 Nissan Murano driver's seat has a broken frame. It leans to the left and back. It rests against the post between the front seat and back seat. It traps the seat belt between the post and the seat. I have to struggle to put the seatbelt on every time I get into the car. I took my car to wright's Nissan in wexford,PA, the mechanic there told me that I would need to get it fixed in order to pass inspection. They wanted to charge me $850. 00 for a new seat. I was able to contact a private welder and he said he would fix it for a fee alot smaller than the $850. 00 Nissan wants to charge me. I believe Nissan should recall this defect before someone gets seriously hurt or killed.

The contact owns a 2007 Nissan Murano. While driving approximately 25 mph, the driver's seat failed and extended to the rear seat. The contact immediately drove to the dealer and was informed that the seat could be repaired. The dealer welded the seat to the track as a temporary remedy. On July 6, 2009, the seat failed again. The dealer recently stated that they would no longer weld the seat because the track needed to be replaced. The contact paid $400 for the welding and $1,400 for the track replacement. She stated that she would not repair the seat since the failure recurred. The manufacturer stated that they would make an agreement with her to split the repair cost. They later stated that they would get in touch with her and that no recalls were available; however, the dealer and service manager confirmed that the failures occurred. If a crash had occurred, the injuries could have been fatal. The contact refused to pay for the repair and stated that if the seat leaned toward the air bag switch, the air bag would deploy. The state attorney general is mailing her a packet to report the failure. The contact informed the dealer that she will go the media about the issue. The manufacturer stated that this would be irrelevant since no crash occurred. The contact found several NHTSA complaints and an open investigation regarding this issue. The failure mileage was approximately 39,000 and current mileage was 42,000.
