Increasing engine noise, heavy highway vibration (almost like unbalanced tires) and very choppy start-from-stop exceleration caused me to have the car looked at by a mechanic. Diagnosed as a transmission problem. Only option is to replace. I thought there was an earlier recall on this model for powertrain issues, but my car shows "0 unrepaired recall items".

My car lost power brought it in for service needs a new transmission. At 89,000 miles shouldn't need a new transmission been reading up on it and a lot of people are having to get a new transmission on the cvt transmission that Nissan is using. Starts with a finding noise when driving long distances than just lost power won't move car still running. It shutters like puts puts and shuts off. Had to have it towed. They told me transmission is going. I payed 30,000 dollars for this car 18 months ago still owe 21500 on it and do not have 5000 on a new transmission at this point I don't want the car anymore.
Our 2013 Nissan path finder has been "shaking"/shuttering since we bought it. Every time we brought it in for service they said it was "not reproducible". Finally the noise got so loud they replaced the transmission. Less than 2 days after the transmission was replaced. We tried to enter the highway and the vehicle refused to accelerate. We almost crashed with oncoming traffic. The vehicle then would not accelerate over 5-10 mph and started dumping fluid in my driveway. I called Nissan and they assigned a tech who was supposed to examine the vehicle with us and document the incident. The tech was not available for a month and they put the vehicle on the rack and "fixed" it without documenting the issue with us. I am going to check it out today. However this is subversive and they are actively not trying to document the issue. This is a dangerous vehicle and numerous complaints have been made online.
My husband and I purchased the 2013 Nissan Pathfinder, November 2012. We traded in our Chevrolet tahoe and decided with gas prices increasing we needed a vehicle that we can save a little on. We put our trust in Nissan. About 11 months after purchasing, I was leaving work and backed out of my parking space proceeded to the stop sign. At the stop sign I accelerated and it moved forward a few feet, then it made a loud noise. Before I knew it the car was on, but would not move. Would not move forward or in reverse. The good thing is I had a person behind me that noticed I had car problems and pushed the car out of the lanes of traffic. Got the car towed to Nissan dealership, and they just informed us that they could not figure out why the card is not working. The transmission is going into gear, just not moving. Now their shop manager has decided to replace the entire transmission. This is one week that we have been in a rental. . . . Should get our car Friday. Will my car ever drive the same again with a new transmission ?.
I was driving on the highway at approximately 60 mph when my 2013 Nissan Pathfinder started to act strange. The rpm's would be erratic going from 3000 - 5000 if I touched the accelerator. Then it would stop if I did not touch the accelerator. Then 4000 - 6000 rpms. It seemed very unsafe and obviously something was wrong. I decided to get off the highway and on the exit ramp when I heard a large grinding noise and the car stopped. There was an awful burning smell and the cabin filled with smoke in addition to the smoke coming out of the hood. I turned the car off, turned it back on and it would not start. It also stopped in a very unsafe location and eventually the state police came to push me out of the way. Called my Nissan dealer, they sent a tow truck and I went to the dealership. Later that day I found out that the recommendation was for a new transmission. I could not believe this, I was driving a $40,000 brand new SUV and that was the only option. How could a new transmission help, if there is a design defect in Nissan's Pathfinder transmissions? my new car would never be the same.
