1 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 05/02/2021

As I am in a complete stop or driving slow I press the pedal to accelerate the car shakes and it is the transmission slipping and it shakes for a good 3 minutes on the road, which is dangerous for me because I'm afraid it'll stop in the middle of the road or that I'll get hit by another car since it is slipping when I'm trying to accelerate from a complete stop or trying to accelerate from a slow speed.

2 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 01/13/2021

The vehicle shudders badly when driving at slower speeds and also when driving on highway and I checked on Pathfinder forums that 2013s have lots of complaints listed for same problem.

3 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 03/02/2020

I bought a 2013 Nissan Pathfinder on 2016 and in 2017 I took it to a Nissan dealership for having the shaking when accelerating, at that time the dealership told me that the transmission was the cause and that they fixed it. Now after two years have passed my car started to shake again putting me and my family in a risk of an accidents. I took it to the same dealership and I was told that it was the transmission again and now they are saying it has to be replaced since Nissan have had so many complaints for the same reason because they never notified the costumers about this issues in these suvs. But now Nissan wants to charged me $4000 for the transmission because I'm over the 100,000 miles. But when I took the vehicle the first time it was under the warranty they knew already, by then, the problem with the transmissions and that was the perfect time for them to replaced it instead of fixing it. They chosen to put me and my family at risk of causing an accident. The vehicle at this moment is sitting there at the dealership.

4 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 05/10/2019

Anywhere between 15 and 20 miles my car shudders. It's to the point pint it's not safe to drive the vehicle.

5 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 08/10/2018

65 mph, vehicle failed to accelerate but rpms went up to 7000 vehicle shuddered for 25 seconds. Next day while makig a left turn at 10 mph thru an intersection from a stop light, same exact thing happened. Got to side of road, car refused to go forward. Works in reverse but not forward. Towed to shop where new transmission was found to be the only fix. Vehicle has only 112k miles.

6 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 08/09/2018

While driving on a highway, I accelerated- my rpms went up to 7 yet my car didn't accelerate at all but the car shuddered for about 25 seconds. One day later, while making a left turn after sitting at a stop light the same thing happened. Luckily I had just enough power to get through the intersection and to the side of the road. I put the car in park to catch my breath after that scary scene. After two minutes of the car still on I tried to drive but the car wouldn't move and it shuddered again. I restarted the car and had the same results. The car was towed to the Nissan dealership where they found that a new transmission would be necessary.

7 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 04/03/2017

Vehicle will not respond when accelerator is pressed occasionally. This poses great safety issues. Vehicles shakes tremendously when accelerating up a hill under 30 mile per hour.

8 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 11/14/2016

Cvt is failing. Vehicle shudders and shakes at low speeds and at speeds above 60mph. Nissan dealership knew immediately what the problem was.

9 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 04/22/2016

The transmission has given me problems for the past year and a half. Initially when I took it to the dealership they said they could not recreate the problem. When accelerating from a complete stop the vehicle would shudder and struggle to get into a higher gear. The car would go slower than it should based on the pressure applied to the gas pedal. This shuddering would also occur when accelerating on the freeway. I could be going 55mph and then needed to merge or pass and when the gas is pressed a strong shudder would occur sometimes feeling like the car would stop at any second. I mentioned this to the dealer two more times. There were some software updates and eventually, last July, they said I needed a new transmission. A 2 year old car with approximately 40k miles. That is unheard of. After the transmission replacement things seemed to be working fine. Every now and then I would feel a slight shudder but wasn't sure if that was actually occurring because of what I was used to before. Well it definitely was and got noticeably worse. When accelerating from a complete stop the car would move and seem to be stuck in gear. I could push the gas pedal down to the floor and would go no faster than 20 mph. This was a problem as I was in traffic numerous times when this occurred. I took it back to a different dealership and they said it was a software update that was needed. The update was applied last week and the problem has gotten worse. Accelerating from any speed whether from 0 or 55 the car gets stuck and doesn't go any faster, this happened several times in one day on the highway and luckily no accident occurred. The car is now back at the dealership. I have a family with 2 small children and am afraid to put my family in the car. Nissan has really disappointed me with this and it seems this is an ongoing and known issue for 2013 Pathfinders.

10 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 03/16/2016

The contact owns a 2013 Nissan Pathfinder. While driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle vibrated, decelerated, and momentarily accelerated. There were no warning indicators. The contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road and called a local dealer who advised her to drive the vehicle to the shop. The following day, the failure recurred. The technician kept the vehicle for a couple of days, but was unable to duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but stated that nothing could be done. The failure mileage was 59,000. The VIN was not provided.

11 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 10/30/2015

Vehicle jerks and shudders in light acceleration. No acceleration on vehicle even when accelerator is pressed to floor. It was brought into dealer who claimed there was a computer programming update for the transmission. Vehicle continued to experience same issues. Last week my car shuddered, would not accelerate with pedal to the floor then shut down completely as I was pulling out of gas station almost causing accident. It is now in shop. No repairs done yet.

12 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2014

On slow road coasting between 15-20mph, the vehicle hesitated and shaked for around 3 seconds until accelerated above 20 mph. On Dec 17, made the same in another road, same mph. Yesterday 12/30 did it again. In routine maintenance on the dealer, 12/26 informed about the two (2) first events. They recorded it on the job; they need to have the vehicle more time in order to reproduce. Imo at this time, with so many owners complaining about this same progressive defect, is no need to leave a vehicle days (and others putting mileage on it) to reproduce this random problem in addition of the inconvenience of being without transportation.

13 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 10/31/2014

While making a right tun the vehicle started to shudder, thought the engine was going to cut off, once again while accelerating out of a turn the car started to shudder again. This is happening on a regular basis now. Bought the car from a dealership. Going to a Nissan dealer car still under warranty hopefully I can get some relief.

14 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 07/04/2014

Purchased on December 24, 2013, my 2013 Nissan Pathfinder has a major transmission issue, which has not been fixed after three service calls, and ended with the transmission failing while driving at 70 mph on a very busy interstate highway. Significant safety event. On 6 Jul 2014, my Pathfinder’s transmission failed in the middle of interstate highway 95 over 150 miles from my residence at posted speed of 70 mph. The car started to shudder with a slight jump in rpm, acted normally, and then, the transmission got stuck in gear. We made it to the side of the road and shutdown the car. I restarted the Pathfinder and regain control of the power train; as before, the vehicle drove with no apparent issue. Fifteen minutes later, the vehicle’s rpm started to exceed 5000 to 6000 rpms, cycling between coasting at high and low rpms (with no power being transfer to the wheels to maneuver the car properly), and normal “powered” driving. Finally, it would not respond to fuel pedal actions. I was able to “coast” through the 70+ mph traffic to the highways’ shoulder. Background. I questioned both the salesman/manager on this issue, and both stated that these early problems had been resolved, and more importantly, that my vehicle’s transmission was a newer one. The first vehicle incident occurred shortly after buying the vehicle. The problem consisted of transmission bumps and rumbles that caused the vehicle to shudder or rattle. I took the vehicle to the dealership in fredericksburg, virginia on 19 Jan 2014, 4 Mar, and 2 may. I was also told that this issue was not a serious problem, and that the vehicle computer would adjust to the individual pattern of the driver and that the problem would eventually go away. Nissan was contacted, and the vehicle’s software was updated. The service department was confident that the problem would be mitigated by the last software update.

15 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 06/27/2014

Someone please help! my wife and I own a 2013 Pathfinder and it only has 13000 miles an is already on its second transmission! our car violently shakes and shudders on take off at approximately 15-20 mile per hour! why isn't there a direct investigation for this problem. Why not when the majority of the complaints here are for this particular problem and it's so dangerous with my 6 month old child in the car. Something has to be done. Same problem with Pathfinder's equivalent, infinity equivalent jx35, with same type transmission. Look it up. Something has to be done!.

16 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 06/22/2014

Just purchased the car used from a dealer on 6/19 with only 5100 miles on it. By 6/22, by noticed that the car will shudder occasionally after accelerating, coasting, and then attempting to accelerate again. While accelerating from a turn to an interchange, the car shook as if going over rumble strips for about 4 seconds and wasn't able to achieve accelerating power until shaking stopped. Has occurred about 7 times over the past day. Very frustrated in the dealer who now says the manufacturer will cover any defects. I feel the dealer knowingly passed the problem on to me.

17 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 04/30/2014

There is a sudden juddering shake that lasts about 4 to 6 seconds driving around 25 miles per hour. I have experienced the shaking during turns and upon hills the transmission feels like driving a stickshift and you finally feel the gear kick in and the after making it uphill or stopping uphill. Vehicle drives smooth again. My girls are very scared with the shaking I have left my vehicle at the dealership pending a fix/solution.

18 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 02/04/2014

When you roll up to a stop sign or an area that requires you to yield, when you begin to start climbing in speed, the entire vehicle shakes. When you let your foot off the gas it stops. If you push your foot further down (accelerating ) it stops. Also, when you are in over drive, it occurs more often than not. I have contacted the dealer. However, because this issue does not arise when needed, there has not been any instances available for the technicians to witness which therefor, they can not diagnose it, nor is there a check engine light.

19 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 01/18/2014

Two problems: 1. Brand new 2013 Nissan Pathfinder. Front windshield wipers completely stopped working twice. Dealer fixed them the first time under warranty, but they have stopped again, leaving us stranded in a snow storm. 2. The vehicle lurches and shakes under acceleration, especially around 20 mph. Something is wrong with the transmission. I have read online about it but people caution against bringing it in as the fixes either didn't work or made it worse. I am very concerned this vehicle is going to require major repairs somewhere down the road, likely outside of the warranty coverage.

20 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 12/19/2013

On three different occasion, while driving I get a lost of power, even though, my feet is on the accelerator. . This last for about seven to eight seconds. When making turns sometimes, at slow speed, the car shudder.

21 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 12/03/2013

Often times while accelerating from a stop, or after a turn, I will step on the gas pedal and feel the car shudder, or hesitate.

22 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 11/27/2013

Shortly after taking ownership, we felt a shaking of the vehicle when making turns or when slightly accelerating/stopping (like when stuck in traffic) at low speeds. Generally happens at 18 mph but anywhere from 15-25 mph. The vehicle will shake for a couple of seconds. Dealer acknowledged issue, performed software update which didn't resolve the issue. We requested the recording device to be installed to capture the judder for Nissan corporate satisfaction, unfortunately the recording device was faulty and was unable to record anything. We are waiting for the dealer to fix the device, however the juddering is still occuring and I often feel unsafe in this vehicle. Nissan knows exactly what is happening but is not making it easy for the dealer to fix as they want the judder recorded. The dealer techs know it's happening on our vehicle, yet we can't get any resolution.

23 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 11/18/2013

When getting to a stop or a yield, as soon as I would accelerat, my vehicle would shake. A noticable and violent shake where my young daughter would get scared in the back seat. I would then let my foot off and the shaking would stop and the vehicle would still move slow. I would then accelerat again. Most of the time the vehicle would move normal but a few times the vehicle would again shake. I took my vehicle in November and I was told that a bulletin was address to all dealership and that my vehicle was re-program and that no shaking should happen again. But it did. It happened about a week after leaving the dealership. I took my vehicle again on 02/28/2014 and I was advised that my vehicle was going to need a transmission replace on my new 2013 Nissan Pathfinder.

24 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 11/11/2013

Purchased this vehicle in March 2013. Since purchase experienced numerous times transmission problem that manifests itself as vehicle shuddering when trying to make turn at low speed or from complete stop. This also happens when trying to accelerate to go onto highway, vehicle would shudder and can not accelerate until foot is taken from the gas pedal and gas pedal pressed again. I brought this to Nissan USA attention and spoke to the dealership several times. Vehicle was evaluated at the dealership service center and we were notified that the problem can not be duplicated. I tried to explain to the technician that in order to duplicate problem this vehicle have to be driven for several days if not weeks on daily basis since sometimes problem happens every three days, sometimes it happens three, four times a day. I have a feeling Nissan is trying to hide serious flaws in the design of their new Pathfinder and it is simply refusing to take care of problems. This is serious safety issue and I hope we will not wait until someone dies in the accident until Nissan takes necessary steps to fix their cvt transmission.

25 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2013

1. While attempting to leave a school parking lot (going in a straight line with other parents' cars) at 10 mph the engine shuddered and the vehicle jerked back and forth as if it transmission couldn't engage power to the wheels. The shuddering stopped after a couple seconds and I was able to leave the school parking lot safely. (vehicle has shuddered while driving straight three times in the last month. ) 2. Pulled into a roundabout at 15 mph and the engine shuddered, jerking the Pathfinder back and forth. When exiting the roundabout at nearly 20 mph the vehicle shuddered again for a couple seconds, but this time it was not a violent -- it only vibrated the vehicle. (vehicle has shuddered while turning at least 12 times in the last month. ) 3. After turning right onto a straight street and trying to accelerate, the engine felt as if half the power were taken away. The engine revved up, but the acceleration was weak. (this has happened twice in a month. ).

26 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 10/30/2013

Brought Pathfinder into get serviced October 30, 2013 at 5,604 miles as the car was shuddering when accelerating. Dealership had car and reprogrammed the transmission. On November 8, 2013, we brought the Pathfinder back in for service as the shuddering continued. At 5. 945 miles they found that the transmission had failed and the dealership then replaced it. On March 25, 2014, we again had to bring the Pathfinder in for service as the Pathfinder would shudder when accelerating. At 10,075 miles the transmission was then replaced again due to it failing. We then lodged a formal complaint with Nissan na and requesting a replacement automobile because we do not feel safe driving the Pathfinder with an 8 week old daughter inside. The claim was then formally declined by Nissan with no explanation except that they are extending our warranty. I am absolutely disappointed with both Nissan na and the NHTSA for not moving forward with a formal recall because this is a serious issue that affects the acceleration of a 6,000 pound SUV.

27 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 09/16/2013

Purchased in Aug 2013. Sept 2013 at low speeds under 25 mph, the vehicle begins to shudder and looses acceleration. Nissan dealership could not find a problem. Oct 2013 my vehicle was back in for the same issue. This time Nissan replaced the transmission. Nov 2013 back to the dealer for same issue, was told a software update was just released for a computer upgrade for the transmission. Problem still existed. Returned a 4th time in Dec 2013 and was told I must have been spinning my wheels in the snow, no problems were found. In addition to the transmission problems, the roof started leaking and the water ran behind the dashboard. A gasket needed to be replaced, shortly after I began to have electronic issues with wipers, volume control for bluetooth, radio. Some type of module was replaced this took two return trips before a problems was found. Again within a month these electrical issues returned. On Monday 3/24 the transmission once again failed as I was making a left turn from a stop. With this incident I was almost killed by a tractor trailer because I was stuck in the middle of the intersection and could not get the vehicle to move. Luckily the truck was able to swerve behind me a the last moment to avoid the collision. Restarting the car several times cleared the problem and was immediately took it back to my dealership. I explained everything that has been happening with my vehicle since purchased in Aug 2013, 33 days of service so far and no resolution. I have also filed a complaint with Nissan consumer affairs, case # 14064021. Nissan admitted there is a problem with the transmission but does not have a fix. At this time the vehicle is not safe to drive and the dealer has put me in a free loaner car until they have a resolution.

28 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 09/13/2013

I was driving the vehicle at approximately 43 mph; when I applied the brakes (without stopping) and began to accelerate again the vehicle shuddered for about 3 seconds. This same occurrence happened periodically again over a 2-day period. I took the vehicle to sheehy Nissan (short pump) in richmond and was advised that the transmission need to be replaced and that Nissan was sending another transmission for the dealership to install. My wife called Nissan north America regarding the vehicle and was given a case number; I also contacted Nissan by email about two days later as we had not received a call back and filed a compliant asking that me vehicle either be replaced with another brand new 2013 Nissan Pathfinder sl or that the organization refund my money. In the end Nissan consumer affairs refused to honor my request and advised that they would only repair the vehicle.

29 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 09/09/2013

The car started to vibrate and surge and loud bang noises at the front the car it feels like its loosing power and its hard to pick up, has done this while approaching to a car or slowing down. Take it to the dealer and they reprogram the computer but still doing the same problem over and over,.

The car started to vibrate and surge and loud bang noises at the front the car it feels like its loosing power and its hard to pick up, has done this while approaching a red light or slowing down.

31 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 08/19/2013

Vehicle began to shudder. Was diagnosed as a bad transmission. The transmission was changed and problem returned at 3079 miles on the vehicle.

32 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 08/06/2013

Driving 45 miles per hour on a straight level road, while accelerating to 40 mph, the vehicle began shaking violently; then began shuttering along with a drop in power; after 3 to 4 seconds, the vehicle returned to normal driving. This was the third occurrence since I purchased the 2013 Pathfinder three months ago. . Reading now, NHTSA database indicates multiple consumer complaints regarding the Pathfinder transmission issue.

33 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 07/12/2013

Incident happen multiple times from July 20th 2013 up to September 2013 only in hot days with outside temperature around 85 degrees. All situations were very similar. I will describe just one. I was trying to merge to traffic from right to left. I moved slowly around 25 mph and I sow that I can merge to line so I accelerate lightly to around 30-32mph where rpm was around 1000-1500rpm. When I was changing lines car start shake like I'm going trough slow down strips, I remember speed because I got scared and I took look to dash if engine light is on and if engine is shutting down. I saw rpm still up and car started move normally after 1-2 sec. When I pressed accelerator. I thought that car will stop and I will get hit by car coming from rear. I had 2 years old daughter in car with me at that time. No so funny Nissan. I visited dealer 2 times. Dealer tried to replicate issue but they did that at morning when is not so hot. They couldn't replicate it and they sent me home with nothing because Nissan didn't released recall for my VIN.

34 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 07/05/2013

As you decelerate from 50 -55 mph and slow down to 40 mph, the vehicle begins to "shudder", similar to driving over rumble strips that are typically found along highways that alert drivers that they are moving onto the shoulder. After 4-5 seconds, the shudder stops and the vehicle drives normally. Reading on the internet, this appears to be occurring with a number of vehicles and may result in transmission failure over time.

35 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2013

Vehicle shaking/shuddering while driving. Seemed like the vehicle is loosing power and not responding to controls. Tachometer and speedometer gauge also shake/jitter.
