3 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2008 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 07/15/2020

While driving, the vehicle started to stumble for a second, then all of a sudden felt like it had almost no power. Wouldnt accelerate well, didnt shift normally, and didnt feel like it was running as well as normal. When we parked the vehicle, I turned it off to hopefully "reset" whatever may have malfunctioned. When I tried to restart the vehicle, it wouldnt start. The starter wouldnt even try to start the motor, like it wasnt even getting power. Being a mechanic by trade, I jumped out to see what was going on, and had my wife try to start it while I watched & listened. . . As she turned the key to start it, I could hear the starter relay click to send voltage to the starter, but the starter wasnt responding. After further examination, I found a blown fuse in the fusebox under the hood. It was the "a/t ecu" fuse. This is where things get bad. I replaced the fuse to get us home, but as soon as we got home and shut the vehicle off, I tried immediately to restart it. Again, nothing happened. . . No crank, no start. Same fuse was blown again. After a little research, I found that fuse is on the circuit to the transmission control module. This module had malfunctioned and now blows the fuse every time it is replaced. That led me to drop the transmission pan to check it out, and what did I find? transmission fluid all clouded up and contaminated with radiator coolant. How did that get there? after inspecting that, I found that the radiator had failed and allowed coolant to mix with the trans fluid. This coolant is also damaging the clutches in the transmission, as it causes the vehicle to put extra stress on them due to the way the vehicle shifts now. Then I realized numerous people with Pathfinders, titans, and many Nissan vehicles had the exact same problems. Now I'm upset because I have a truck with an expensive problem that Nissan should be liable for, and should fix.

4 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2008 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 07/06/2018

Turned a corner, driving below speed limit on city street, all lights within the dashboard that should have been off (4wd, service engine soon, etc. ) went on, and all readings that should have been on went off (odometer, and so on). Stopped at red light; turned off vehicle hoping to reset before driving home and it would not turn on; lights, radio, a/c were still active so it was not the battery. Only able to shift to neutral with vehicle off to roll to a parking space on the side of the road. No previous issues or warning prior as I perform regular maintenance as recommended by dealership - happened suddenly. Had to have it towed to dealership the following day as it was already after midnight. This followed two attempts calling my warranty company and being disconnected; ultimately called family in the area to assist who helped me rolled the vehicle into a parking lot across the street. After tow and diagnosis, dealer found failure in the radiator (leaked coolant into transmission) and there for failure of tcm (transmission control module). Dealer claims no recall prior to this incident yet there was a class action lawsuit for this exact recall and model in the national database when I researched further after the extended warranty adjuster denied my claim for coverage. This process alone took 7-9 business days; I have been without my vehicle for 3 weeks.

11 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2007 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 08/05/2016

Check engine light appeared and I pull two p0717 codes indicating an issue with transmission control valve with tcm. Took to shop and they found coolant mixed with transmission fluid requiring a transmission replacement.

12 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2006 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 07/15/2016

Radiator cracked leaking coolant into the transmission that is impacting the ability for transmission control module to function properly. Now, while driving, the car randomly stalls and loses all power. While on the highway, it has become necessary to restart the car while rolling in neutral to avoid having to switch lanes into faster moving cars. I've been informed by Nissan that it's a common problem and an $8000 repair to replace the radiator, transmission, transmission control module, and flush everything out.

13 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2008 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 03/03/2016

Recall investigation #dp12004 : transmission control module failed during motion, causing my Nissan Pathfinder to stall and completely turn off in the middle of the road while driving in heavy traffic.

14 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2007 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 01/24/2016

After hearing a lot of about this problem I decided to make a complaint because it is not fair for anyone to go through this. My 2007 Pathfinder suddenly lost complete power and it wouldn't start at all after having a mechanic check it he gave me a diagnose that it was the transmission which I didn't believe I said what does the transmission has to do with power but it has a lot to do after I did some research it comes to this. The coolant on the vehicle gets inside the transmission and mixes with the oil causing the tcm (transmission control module) to fail and not to sent signal so the vehicle will start. So now I have to repair the transmission and the radiator cost will be more than 3000 dollars. I been the only owner of this car and have take good care of it as much as I can I just pay off this car 2 years ago and I don't think is fair for us that had has this problems to paid for it I think Nissan America should do a recall on this and help us the consumers.

15 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2007 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 01/08/2016

Transmission control module fried due to contamination from the radiator fluid. Nissan was aware of contamination in transmission through the radiator and this contamination causes the control module in the transmission to short. Every time I want to start my vehicle I have to replace a 10amp fuse under the hood that will always blow every time I start it. Repair cost for a new control module are exceeding $4000 every place I go. Nissan should be responsible for repairs of their faulty design. Due to this defect my family was stranded, I had to leave my work and pick them up in below 30 degree temperatures.

16 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2007 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 12/21/2015

1) about 2 years ago the cruse control stopped working. Have not repaired this problem. 2) in July 2015 the air bag warning light on the instrument panel started flashing. Have not repaired this problem. 3) on Dec 21, 2005 after pulling out of my drive way the transmission would not advance to the next higher gear. Stopped and put it into reverse but the SUV would not go backwards. Slowly drove it around the block back home. Transmission shop reported that coolant leaked into the pcm compartment causing this problem. Repairs have been made, cost was 3645 us dollars.

17 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2005 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 08/12/2015

I have submitted a previous complaint about the transmission failing as a result of a radiator leak into the transmission. The car was repaired and running fine however a new problem emerged, that is a result of the same radiator leak. My transmission control module failed on my wife while she was driving it. This is directly related to the radiator leak as there was coolant in the computer module. She was stopped at a stoplight on a busy freeway and suddenly could not move the vehicle. It created a huge safety issue for her and my sons. The repairs have now exceeded $5000. 00.

The contact owns a 2007 Nissan Pathfinder. While driving 5 mph, the transmission failed to shift gears and the engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician diagnosed that the transmission control module and the radiator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 111,000.

19 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2007 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 06/22/2015

Towed my car to the local shop and found out that the radiator has an internal crack and leaked into the transmission. Burned out the tcm and now I am going to have to pay more than $5000 to get it fixed. Called Nissan and was told I needed to replace the radiator and transmission. Not happy about this at all.

20 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2008 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 03/27/2015

My wife was driving our 2008 Nissan Pathfinder when her service engine soon and 4wd warning light came on while pulling up to an intersection. When she pulled away from the intersection the vehicle moved very slowly and would no longer shift. After shutting the vehicle off it would not start again. A transmission shop has tested the transmission fluid and found glycol contamination from the transmission cooler that has shorted the transmission control module. The vehicle requires a complete transmission rebuild, new tcm and a radiator bypass to remedy the problem. Total cost will be approximately $4000.

21 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2014 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 12/22/2014

Acceleration / transmission problems with 2014 Nissan Pathfinder. Issues began at 3100 miles. No acceleration from stop, or very minimal. Felt as if the transmission was "slipping" and would not engage, or similar to drive a manual transmission at mph in 4th gear. Issue recurred several times on my commute home. Was stranded on the side of the road and required towing because I could not make the vehicle move forward at all. Abnormal burning smell coming from front of car was observed. I was stranded in winter with a 3 month old in the car. At one point I was basically stuck in the middle of an intersection due to the lack of acceleration. I was nearly rear-ended in one case and was in serious danger of being sideswiped by oncoming traffic. Depending on the situation, this issue could present a major safety hazard (and did for me). For the first time in my life, I was worried for my personal safety while driving a car. Also observed erratic engine rpm's at idle (from 1000 to 1500) and while coasting. Rpm would jump up and down with constant (or no) throttle applied. Dealer has had the car for over 3 weeks at this point. Initially they were not able to replicate the issue, and no error codes were shown on the computer. Eventually they did replicate the issue and are now replacing the transmission control module after consulting with Nissan. I have the impression that neither Nissan or the dealer has any clue how to fix the issue. They are just trying different things to see what makes it work again. Based on the lengthy list of similar complaints, Nissan is apparently not too concerned. . .

22 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2008 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 12/10/2014

Car would not accelerate from a stop it was as if it was not shifting to first gear from a stop. Also while driving the car would begin to shudder violently and would not stop until the vehicle came to a complete stop. As it turns out, a line inside radiator coming from the transmission broke and caused contamination. Coolant mixed with transmission fluid created a sludge that contaminated both coolant system and transmission. Radiator was replaced and coolant system flushed as well as transmission flushed. A week later the car was parked and would not start. As it turns out the transmission blew a fuse and was not registering that the vehicle was in park. This is all related to the same problem the transmission control module (tcm) was burned out from the sludge created by coolant and transmission fluid. So now, either the transmission needs to be replaced because the clutch and gears are potentially burned up or the tcm. With just a tcm there is no guarantee that the transmission will not fail due to no way of knowing the condition of the clutch and transmission gears. Vehicle is still in the shop for over a month now and we have been forced to purchase a new car to meet our transportation needs.

23 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2013 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 03/15/2014

Transmission shudders / judders at light acceleration during low speed. I took my vehicle to dealership on 3/19/2014 with only 2450 miles on it. Their technician confirmed that this is a known problem of 2013 Pathfinder but Nissan does not have a proper fix. He also said that I was the third customer complaining this problem on that day alone. He reprogrammed the tcm. However, transmission shuddering continues. It is getting worse and more frequent. Nissan needs to admit this problem and recall all vehicles with this transmission!.

24 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2013 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 12/14/2013

Purchased new 2013 Pathfinder and within the first week noticed a shudder in the transmission, however it was an isolated and didn't think it was an issue. As time has passed this has gotten more and more frequent. Then recently with only 2000 miles on the car, we were making a left turn the car shuddered and felt like it was going to stall, and car would not accelerate past a few mph. This being highly concerning from a safety standpoint prompted us to take the car into the dealer. Dealer looked over car said they were to reprogram the tcm as this is a known issue. After reprograming dealer could not duplicate issue and told us that was all that could be done until they could personally duplicate the issue. Nissan dealership said they have owners on their 2nd and 3rd transmission and no permanent fix. The car has since shuddered and lost acceleration three times in the 24 hour period since dealer returned car. After much research it appears to be a known issue for over a year and for Nissan to continue to sell a knowingly defective and unsafe car should illegal.

25 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2013 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 07/15/2013

Vehicle is rumbling or shaking at slow speed. It had happened a few times before but seems to get worse recently and was very noticeable when I was driving up/down at the airport parking garage and having to maintain slow speed. It also happened from time to time while on slow speed but happened most of the time while making turns. It last a few seconds and during that time it was as if the car was riding on very rough continuous surface (like driving on the warning strip to slow speed at the toll booths). I just took the vehicle to the dealer which the description on the invoice said "confirm vehicle surge at 30/33 mph pc1970 0. 6 perform tcm reprogram and vehicle road test problem steel there. Reschedule; need to call tech line". The service adviser at the dealer asked me to keep driving if the problem is still there and it is. Less than a mile out of the dealer, while making turn at the traffic light, the noticeable rumbling happened again. I am rescheduling this for service. I hope it is fixed before our road trip.

26 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2007 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 12/11/2012

Car was giving acceleration problems. Two days later I was in traffic and car wouldn't go past 10 mph. I was able to pull over just out of the way of speeding traffic. I had to turn the car off then back on for it to start and slowly shift gears. Still was only able to go up to 15mph at first, almost got into an accident because of my location. Once I kept going it started to speed up to normal speed. Immediately I called Nissan, but before I was able to get to them my car failed to start. I was sent the recall letter in 2012 for my make/model/year. Not right because by that time I received the letter I had already gone over the mileage. Even if I was within mileage how can you make the buyer pay up to $3000 dollars for a manufacture defect. One problem is starting to lead to another. First bad tcm then relay. I'm fed up with trying to fix a vehicle that I kept maintained with the necessary maintenance checks. I did everything right as an owner, if my vehicle had been installed with good hardware (transmission/relay/etc. ) then I would still have a good running vehicle. I will never buy another Nissan again!!!!!.

27 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2005 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 07/24/2012

Per Nissan dealership diagnosis: technician found anti-freeze/transmission fluid mix in both radiator and transmission (failure in radiator cooler) trans (tcm); no communication with other vehicle ecms catastrophic transmission failure. Dealer recommendation: replace transmission and radiator. Full transmission fluid and radiator flush of systems.

28 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2005 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 10/07/2010

We were driving in our 2005 Pathfinder when the car decided to decrease speed all by itself after we pulled out into an intersection with traffic headed our way. Took the car to Nissan dealership was told coolant leaking into transmission due to a defected seal in the radiator to fix the problem ecm, tcm, transmission and radiator need to be replaced about 7,000 to fix the problem Nissan need to correct there mistakes not recall one component that got fried because coolant leaked on it that's not going to correct the problem. I cant believe we have to wait for someone to loose a love one before action is done we were second away from that, seriously. Not a joke Nissan needs to stand up for there mistake this is America right don't we have rights to a safe auto for our children after paying alot for a car that suppose to be safe just google 2005 Pathfinder complaints and see how many are really out there 93% transmission problem on the 2005 same thing coolant leaking into the transmission make Nissan recall these cars and fix the problem we work hard for our country and deserve quality what if this was your family Nissan you have your family in one of these car think not!!!.

29 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2005 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 12/27/2009

2005 Nissan Pathfinder 4wd SUV suddenly down shifted out of 2wd driving mode with a sudden deceleration into 4wd mode. 4wd warning light and service engine lights came on. Diagnostic test found transmission cooler in radiator failed and leaked fluid into transmission damaging transmission control module. .

30 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 1997 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 01/05/2003

Engine problem light comes on. Both transmission computers malfunctioning and shortening each other out. Dealer repaired for several hundred commenting that this is common problem w/ model and Nissan is aware of transmission failure that could lead to injury but refuses to recall due to excessive cost of doing so even though it is dangerous.
