National headquarters consumers affairs department: 10/10/10 in the past few months beginning may 2010 have been attempting to communicate with the Nissan rep. For the northern region. I was recently informed by rep in sept 2010 that Nissan refused my request for assistance in replacing the catalytic converter in my 2006 Nissan Pathfinder that currently, as of sept 24, 2010 has 86,000 miles. You see back in April 14, 2010 I was informed by nalley Nissan of decatur GA. That I needed to have the catalytic converter replaced on my 2006 Pathfinder, and that they could do the job for $1,200 -$1,500 at the time my vehicle had approximately 80,000 miles or less yet when I had work done at nalley Nissan on April 14, 2010 the mileage was documented as by nalley Nissan as being 125,000 in an attempt as not to repair my vehicle under the manufactures warranty free of cost. On may 24, 2010 I had a second opinion done as well as some repair work done and at this time 1 month later my car read 81,254 miles reading on the odometer knowing all of this had transpired the Nissan rep informed me that Nissan would not replace or assist in getting this matter taken care of. Is it common that the converter should have to be replaced in a car so new. As well as the records being falsified so my vehicle would not qualify for replacement of the converter. It is virtually impossible to have had 125,000 miles on 4/15/10, and 81,254 miles on 5/24/10 not to mention that as of sept 24, 2010 my reading is 86,000 miles. Also, I have been informed that a code for the gas sensor is being displayed, the fuel reading says empty yet I have just put $45. 00 worth of gas in the tank also these parts would not be kept in stock if not for frequent replacement of said parts. I have copies of both receipts showing this to be a fact . Vehicle id # awaiting your response updated ivoq 11/19/10.
I purchased an 2001 Nissan Pathfinder in 2003 and the bose radio w/ 6 cd clarion player. "err 2" coded 3-months after I purchased it. I had an extended warranty, it was replaced with a refurbished system of the same. It is 8/08 and the system is broken again, and not covered. What are the chances that this vehicle could go through 2 radios in only 63,000 miles?? ridiculous!!! Nissan will not stand by the cheap parts used by clarion in the radio (as researched on the net). I also have an ecm problem, Nissan says it needs to be upgraded, but will not pay for it. My check engine light comes on coding there is a problem with the catalytic converter. They told me nothing is wrong with the converter, just an error with the software in the ecm. So now I won't know if the "check engine" light is on for some thing serious or it is just the converter wrongly coding.

Nissan Pathfinder- oxygen sensor keeps on falling. Very poor quality.
Recurring exhaust leak, even after having the manufacturer install their own repair kit.
My aaa light duty mechanic diagnosed my 2003 Nissan Pathfinder with a cracked catalytic converter. He told me it should be covered under warranty and under 8 years, 80,000 miles emissions law. I took the car in and asked, they told me it wasn't because it was actually the tubes and charged me $700 not including labor to replace. Seems like the tubes should be covered under the same act since the cat converter can't function properly without the proper tubing. I think this dealership failed to comply with the warranty agreement and from the overwhelming number of similar complaints I've found, I believe Nissan has shown no accountability to fix the issue.

The consumer stated took the vehicle into the dealer to see if the vehicle had an exhaust leak due to the vehicle making a loud noise upon evaluation by the dealer, he was informed there was a defective catalytic converter which separated at the seams. The consumer stated he had the vehicle repaired and would like to be reimbursed for repairs via internet this is a very common problem with this vehicle. Updated 09/12/07 updated 09/18/07.
Cataylitc converter cracked, six to eight inches along welded seem with less than 50k miles. Two seperate Nissan dealers have recommended repairing the catalytic converter, with part #20711-5w90a, a band and sealant kit, at customer's expense, denying the defect in workmanship is covered under the federal emissions 8/80 warranty. Both dealers state that the crack does not effect emissions.
Both catalytic converters split at seams causing noise and exhaust leaks at 80,000 miles. Non-Nissan shop replaced because of cheaper than having Nissan dealer replace. Complaints made to Nissan consumer affairs and response was "what do you want Nissan to do about it?". Unwilling to do anything about it since replaced at non-Nissan shop. Told repeatedly by several shops that this is a common problem on Pathfinders of that year, manufacturer defect. When these converters are leaking exhaust, they are located just under the front doors and a heavy exhaust smell comes out right at the doors, so having the windows down is not a good idea.
The contact owns a 2003 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact heard a loud sound coming from underneath the front driver side of the vehicle. The sound was apparent from the exhaust pipes, especially when the accelerator pedal was depressed. She took the vehicle to the Nissan dealer and they stated that the resonator and catalytic converter caused the vehicle to leak exhaust fumes. The dealer offered to repair the vehicle, for a service charge, using a repair kit. The vehicle has not been repaired because it was not covered under warranty. The contact has not yet notified the manufacturer. The failure mileage was 47,269 and current mileage wa 54,400.
I have taken my 2002 Nissan Pathfinder to the greenville, nc Nissan dealer on two separate occasions for an exhaust leak. After both visits, they have diagnosed the leak as "front tubes". The Nissan dealer states these are not considered catalysts. They state the "front tubes" are cracking down the sides and causing an exhaust leak on both of them directly under the driver and passenger seats of the vehicle. The dealer attempted to charge me $1400 to fix the issue. I have attempted to resolve this safety issue with them. I have taken the Pathfinder to an independent exhaust shop and they diagnosed both "front tubes" as catalytic converters being faulty. The Nissan dealer still refused to assist with the matter. This is a major exhaust leak happening due to a manufacturer defect. I researched the Nissan service manual for the 2002 Nissan Pathfinder and located the exhaust diagram. According to the diagram, the part that is faulty is considered a twc(underfloor) which is a three way catalyst. Nissan is refusing to correct this defect. They offer a patch which utilizes an epoxy and round clamps to fit over a rectangular catalyst. This is not a proper fix. They still want to charge for this even though their parts manual states this is a catalyst. The vehicle in question had 63k miles on the first visit and now only has 70k miles on the most recent visit. This is a very widespread issue among the 2002 and 2003 Nissan Pathfinders.
Both catalytic converters seams blew out which made the oxygen sensor go bad. I called Nissan dealer in jamestown n. Y. To see for recalls, he said there was a service bulletin. They had me bring vehicle in and they cemented the seals. They said they had many complaints on them, and had a kit to fix them, they charged me $150. 00 to fix it. Which lasted about 5 months ,and they blew out again.
: the contact stated that the vehicle has problems with leaks from the exhaust leakin in the catalytic converter. The vehicle was taken to the dealers. They determined that the part could not be replace free of charge because it was not covered under his warranty. The dealers did repair the vehicles converter with a clamp. The contact states that the dealers are not honoring the warranty on the vehicle. Updated 8/16/2006 -.
: the contact stated both catalytic converter seals failed which allowed the exhaust to leak. The service dealer and manufacturer were contacted.
Consumer stated a hole formed in the catalytic converter. Dealer was unable to repair the problem.
