I purchased the 2014 Pathfinder March 2018 with 27k miles. Oct. 2018 during starting of the vehicle I noticed excessive amount of smoke coming from the tail pipe. My mechanic checked the truck and informed me oil was leaking from the engine into the cylinders. I contacted Nissan corp and was informed to take it to a local Nissan dealer. The dealer found the transmission was going bad, wheel barren. They returned the vehicle back to me after a week. The next day, the truck was smoking again everytime I would start the ignition. Tried to trade the truck for another make. I can't too much equity. I only had the truck for 8 months. Dec. 5th 2018, check engine light is on and low oil pressure light is on. Excessive smoke still comes from the tail pipe when the truck is started. Returned truck back to Nissan dealer for repair.
Car is making a very loud exhaust sound. Mechanic said the manifold has a crack. This car is a 2011, and it doesn't seem possible for this age car that is driven by a female 43 year old to have such issues.

Engine exhaust system is rusted through between the resonator and muffler. The flange connecting the 2 exhaust components is completely rusted. I have researched this problem and the oem exhaust components where made of stainless steel. However, the flanges and connectors to the whole exhaust system where designed with steel components.

The contact owns a 1995 Nissan Pathfinder. While driving approximately 50 mph, a clicking noise was heard from the outside of the vehicle. The failure recurred sporadically before progressing to a permanent occurrence. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who advised the contact that the failure was contributed to the exhaust manifold, which required replacement. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 162,000. Kmj.
Recently, our 2002 Nissan Pathfinder had to have an engine replaced. The cause was a set of very small bolts in the butterfly valve assembly which is now a part of the intake manifold. My concern is that the engine shop tech now performing the engine replacement mentioned that he is seeing a lot of this type of problem with these specific engines. Also, this is the second 2002 Pathfinder we have had this happen to. The other one was my daughter’s. I am an operations research systems engineer and know that the probability of this occurring to two vehicles of the same year within the same family; both purchased from the same location is a prime indicator of a systemic engineering problem. The factors are that the bolts work loose and drop into the cylinders. If they do not get caught in the cylinder, they are blown out the exhaust. If they do get caught by the piston, they scratch the walls of the cylinders allowing a significant amount of oil to be forced into the chamber where it ignites and is exhausted. The subsequent repair is costing $5200. In both of these situations, the oil reservoir was emptied within 2-3 days. I know this as I constantly check vehicle fluids (I was an army officer and had a motor pool). I caught a low oil quantity in both vehicles; refilled the reservoir; and checked in a few days to find them near empty again. I also know that had the oil run out while at highway speeds, an engine seizing could potentially occur, causing catastrophic engine damage and potential serious accidents. When this occurred, on both vehicles, I took the vehicles to the same dealership for inspection/repair. They seemed to be unaware of the cause of the problem and recommended a specific diagnostic action at a cost of $2000 that only would diagnose the problem and not repair it. A non-Nissan tech recommended the engine replacement given his knowledge of the vehicles and the recurring problem. I reported this situation to Nissan motor c.

The contact owns a 2003 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken for routine maintenance when the dealer advised that there was a fracture in the exhaust pipe. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure and current mileage was 175,000. The VIN was unavailable.
I am the owner of a 2004 Pathfinder with 79,000miles. I was driving on June 6th when my engine began to produce a loud knock. I immediately pulled over and called a tow truck. I had the vehicle towed home so I could investigate the noise. Upon removal of the upper intake manifold I found 1 of the 6 power valves had moved from its proper location, and was on top of another valve. The 2 screws meant to hold it in place were missing, and I found that 8 of the 10 remaining screws to be loose. I was able to find 1 screw that was sitting down inside the head, about to enter the cylinder. I then preceded to remove each screw, locked it, and reinstall it. Hoping this solved the problem, I reassembled the engine, and started it. The knock was still there. So this means that the screw I couldn't find made its way into the cylinder and caused unknown damage. A simple internet search will find numerous reports of this happening on altimas, sentras, and Pathfinders because the screws were not properly locked at the factory, making this a manufacturers defect. Something that should have been dealt with by issuing a mandatory service, there by not wasting my time and money on something that takes less than an hour to remedy. My vehicle is currently undrivable for fear of further damage, as I await a response from Nissan north America on what action, if any, they will do to investigate.

2004 Nissan Pathfinder with service engine light on. Consumer states that the vehicle had smoke coming from the tail pipe, losing power and wouldn't go over 45 mph. Mechanic stated the vehicle was 4 quarts low on oil. The consumer stated the oil had been changed on Feb 2, 2008. And on April 3, 2008 the consumer was informed the vehicle needed a new engine. The consumer stated it was the dealers fault that the engine needed to be replaced. She believed they failed to put in new oil on the last visit.
I took my 2003 Pathfinder in for an unrelated matter and the service department diagnosed the cracked exhaust pipes at the front of the vehicle. I had never heard of this problem and it seems to me that any exhaust system should last at least four years on a normally used vehicle. I have 84,000 miles on mine so I guess it stands outside of any mandated warranties, but I do have a Nissan gold plus warranty which should cover everything up to 100k miles. The service department said no and wanted $246 for the patch. Do I have any other recourse? I live in virginia and the service manager said my vehicle wouldn't pass the next inspection without the patch. I noticed in an on line forum that this is actually a very wide spread problem with the 2002-03 Nissan Pathfinders. Doesn't this manufacturers defect warrant a health hazard that should be reconciled by the company? couldn't the cracks subject passengers to lethal exposure to carbon monoxide gases? since it affects so many consumers, doesn't the problem pose a public health risk?.
Well, I don't know where to start. I purchased this vehicle brand new , my check engine light keep coming on I took this vehicle at least 5 to 6 times to the dealer they couldn't find what was wrong with it. God, I a nurse I need to get to my patient as we speak this car is at the dealership they told me they cant find nothing wrong with it. Isn't there a problem with the catalytic converter with this vehicle.

I have been in contact with Nissan (as has my regular mechanic for the last two years) regarding chronic & pervasive emissions problems with my SUV. My vehicle is registered with Nissan consumer affairs as case #5283891. After the latest reject sticker due to emissions safety, a different mechanic brought to my attention technical service bulletin classification fe98-001a/reference ntb98-062a addressing an extended warranty on the exhaust manifold. Three mechanics (including a Nissan dealer) verified that this was the latest problem. Although I was several weeks past the warranty period, I was way under the mileage limit & the mechanic felt I should push the issue with Nissan, especially in light of the repeated problems. Nissan would not honor it so I paid for the repair myself. When I did, the mechanic said this was most likely a recall & advised me to go back to Nissan & push. I have never received any information from Nissan about extended warranties or recalls. I found this address on the web & thought I should share this with you. I am additionally looking for other consumer agencies to help pursue this with Nissan.

(1) no one single event lead up to the failure, the failure occurred over time. (2) exhaust systems "front tube" on both sides of the vehicle cracked and split at the seams. The morning was quite cool, donna stroud was driving to her next mail delivery stop, with the heater running full blast, when she experienced physical symptoms similar to a seizure, clenched fists, curled in wrists, shortness of breath, and dizziness. She had to ask a passerby to call 911 as she was unable to operate her phone with clenched hands. The fire department and an emergency medical team arrived quickly and went right to work the emts assessment revealed an unusual heart rhythm pattern and low blood oxygen levels. She started felling better after several minutes on oxygen but was rushed via helicopter to emergency room where they ran numerous blood test ekgs and x-rays reveled nothing unusual enough to cause the symptoms she experienced. (3) Nissan dealer installed a repair kit to fix this known problem. . Read more...
I have noticed a different soound comming from the exhaust. I took the vehicle to the mechanic and was told that both exhaust manifold was crack. This is why I want to know if it is a safety or manufacture defect. Please let me know if the manifold will be replaced by the dealer or what should I do. Thank you.
While driving there was a clicking noise underneath the front of the vehicle. The noise occurred because of a crack in the manifold. The manifold was replaced but the crack recurred. The first manifold cracked after 75000 miles. The second manifold cracked after 30000 miles. The consumer is concerned that if the manifolds continue to crack that the exhaust fumes could enter the cabin of the vehicle.
While driving, muffler system fell off and hit vehicle behind, causing serious injuries to consumer and driver of other vehicle.

My car had a noise on the engine. I took it to the mechanic and he said the manifold was cracked. He replaced the manifold. He said that the dealer said they had changed the design due to defect. The old part number was 14004-0w000 u40 manifold - e. The replacement part used was 14004-2w600 with no cover available. The cover was not replaced . The dealer said there is no recall for this defective part. Now I have two different manifolds. I feel this could be a fire hazard because it can become very hot and start a fire. Now I am afraid of what could happen if the other side of the manifold cracks and start a fire or fumes get into the car. I would appreciate if you could check on this and let me know the outcome.
The struts went at 52,000 miles $800 to replace, exhaust manifold needs to be replaced(warranty). Today the news that the speedometer was just"worn out " $235, the rear suspension lincs were "worn out" $350, the intake pinium(sp?) was leaking $660. Something has to be done about Nissan and their "worn out" vehicles. It's not even paid for yet!.
