1 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2014 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 03/11/2019

2014 n Pathfinder 83,000 miles- I parked my car when I restarted it 10 min later, white smoke started coming from my exhaust. So much smoke that I was afraid to drive it. I had the car towed to my mechanic. He said that it's defiantly the engine (possible piston ring or stuck valves) he says he's heard of others with the same problem. Googled and see many others with the same problem. Dealer says I'm 8,000 miles out of my extended warranty. Hard to believe this problem seems so wide spread and isn't a recall.

2 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2005 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 04/12/2011

My 2005 Nissan Pathfinder bucks as I accelerate. I took my car to lithia Nissan and they informed me that there was a defect with the transmission and radiator, and that they saw milky fluid in my car which indicated transmission and radiator fluid mixing together. The cost would be $5000 to fix both. The next day I took it to my personal mechanic, and he checked the fluid which was clear. The bucking problem still exists in my car, what else would cause this problem. The dealer said I was out of the warranty stage so I would have to pay for the repair, I dont trust them now because they told me false information regarding the color of the fluid. What should I do ?.

3 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2005 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 02/20/2011

This was a sudden failure of the catalytic converters on a moutain road resulting in loss of power.

4 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2005 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 01/14/2011

My 2005 Nissan/pathfinder was leased from ray brandt Nissan in July 2005. In April 2009 I purchased the lease. In January 2011 I began to have problems with the vehicle. It was determined that the issues were related to the transmission and radiator. The technician phillip rehage at ray brandt( 504 367 1666) referred me to the the national consuemrs dept. Of Nissan because this was an issue they were aware of but, had not notifed the consumer. The representative lindsey henry ( 800-647-7261 ext 47116) at the national division / Nissan USA. , acknowledged the default and therefore they replaced the transmission and radiator. This they considered was a "good will' measure becuase the vehicle was out of warrenty by 200 miles. I drove the vehicle for 5 days and the same issues arose again. I brought the vehicle back to ray brandt. This time they informed me that the issues were related to the catalyic convertor. Apparently it had come apart and damaged the engine. The dealership, ray brandt again informed me that this was also a defect by Nissan and referred me back to the national consumers' division, Nissan USA. I contacted lidnsey henry again. This time she informed me that it was Nissan' policy to extened only 1 good will measure. They refused any assistance. While awaiting for her response and the vehicle still in the shop at ray brandt, a re-call was issued on the engine. Lindsey and Nissan still contend that they only extend 1 "good-will" measure. Both Nissan USA and ray brandt Nissan acknowlege the defaults and faulty parts however, neither are willig to assist. In addition I have considered purchasing another vehicle from ray brandt but they have refused to offer a appraisal value for a trade-in. Prior to these issues I had never experienced any probelms with my Pathfinder until Nissans' defective parts malfunctioned. I am appealing to you for your assitance in rectifying thes issues.

5 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2002 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 03/15/2010

I own a 2002 Nissan Pathfinder with 97,000. Miles on it. There is a crack in the exhaust manifold that has been getting louder over the last 24 months and recently I have begun to smell exhaust inside the car. This apparently is a manufacturing defect and should be corrected by Nissan.

6 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2003 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 11/01/2009

I own a 2003 Nissan Pathfinder le. Took it to a Nissan dealer and they said the passenger side resonator was leaking out of the outboard seam. The driver side resonator was leaking out of both the outboard and inboard seam. The exhaust could be very easily felt when the engine was running and there is exhaust smell in the cabin. The muffler was freely swinging. I had to replace the muffler. The resonators should be replaced by Nissan as many people are having the same problem. I hope you can do something or that a class action lawsuit is filed.

7 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2002 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 08/19/2009

1: events leading to failure: 2002 Nissan Pathfinder, 71,000 miles. Loud exhaust sounds. Dealership looked at car (charged $50 to look) and reported the exhaust system pipes going into the catalytic converter are cracked - again - already repaired once. Dealership will not repair/replace without charge. This is a recurring defect and possibly an emissions problem. The pipes carry exhaust from engine into catalytic converter and muffler and they are leaking and this is not the first time for this vehicle or many others online. Dealership mechanic specifically told me, "we see this alot" ?!?! defective! nothing has been done to correct, I need assistance ensuring that the dealership takes responsibility for a recurring issue.

8 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2002 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 07/21/2009

Exhaust system problem on 2002 Nissan Pathfinder. Just paid $645. 00 to have two co2 oxygen sensors replace on vehicle and then was told that I needed to have my resonators replace in order to pass the emission control test. I have been smelling emission from the car for a year and was informed that it was co2 sensors that need to be replaced.

9 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2003 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 12/29/2008

2003 Nissan Pathfinder. Cracked resonators/catalytic converters under vehicle allowing exhaust gas to enter vehicle. This is a very common problem with 2002/2003 Pathfinder owners and Nissan refuses to take action to correct this dangerous issue. No payment assistance has been offered by Nissan to help with the cost of the necessary repairs.

10 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2003 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 12/10/2008

1. ) there were no specific events that led to the failure of my vehicle part. 2. ) my 2003 Nissan Pathfinder with 50k miles on it has a cracked resonator pipe which are the front pipes that attach in to the catalytic converted. . Read more...

11 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2003 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 11/26/2008

2003 Nissan Pathfinder catalytic converter failed at side seams and was patched once per Nissan official recommendation. Original patch has worn out and side seams are beginning to fail again. Nissan is refusing to cover the catalytic converter to 8 year/80000 mile warranty.

12 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2003 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 11/01/2008

Faulty exhaust resonators from manufacturer resulting in serious exhaust emission leaks directly under cabin of vehicle in driver and front passenger positions.

13 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2002 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 10/27/2008

I have a 2002 Nissan Pathfinder with 67,000 miles. According to my mechanic, my two rear catalytic converters are leaking co2 from their seams. According to my service manual, catalytic converters are covered under the federal warranty 8/80. I took the car to the white plains Nissan dealer and was told that it's the exhaust tubes that are leaking. The service manager said it could be repaired but I would have to pay. I understand that this has been an ongoing and frequent problem with 2002-2003 Pathfinders and that the epa has notified Nissan in the past that this production defect could cause health and safety issues. I don't see why they can call these parts "exhaust tubes" when they are really catalytic converters and have them not subject to the federal warranty. I believe Nissan should be responsible for replacing these defective parts with a product recall. Can you help me in this matter? thank you, dorrine livson.

14 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2003 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 10/20/2008

I have a 2003 Nissan Pathfinder. It has a cracked catalytic converter. It has less than 45,000 miles . Nissan will not comply to the 8/80 law.

15 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2003 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 10/09/2008

The contact owns a 2003 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated that the resignator, which quiets the engine and is located directly in front of the muffler, is coming apart. In addition, fumes were noticed coming out of the exhaust. The dealer stated that they have a replacement kit to repair the issue, but the contact does not want the kit. He would like the failure to be repaired instead. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 73,000.

16 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2003 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 10/08/2008

The car lost power and then there was high heat from under the car followed by a small explosion when two catalytic converts burst side seams and began to leak. Bennett Nissan in wilton connecticut refused to replace the catalytic converts on both sides of the exhaust system. They claim that these are resonators and not covered under the eight year or 80,000 warranty. They also claim that if there is no "check engine light" that they are not part of the epa system. They offer a "fix" that seals the defect of this equipment and charge about $250. Replacement with new parts costs about $1500. I think: 1) this causes a dangerous situation and is directly related to the epa system; 2) there is danger from fire or excessive exhaust fumes in the car. The dealer and Nissan are obviously working to concert to avoid the repair under warranty and pushing the expensive repair to the consumer after they have no they beyond the 8/80000 mile coverage. This is wrong. This issue is on a 2003 Pathfinder le that I have owned since it was new.

17 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2002 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 10/01/2008

I am complaining about the exhaust system on my 2002 Nissan Pathfinder. I had a leak at the bottom of the pipe at what looks like a catalytic converter. I paid Nissan to fix the problem. A year later it is leaking again. I brought the car back to be repaired. They told me the part on the bottom of the pipe is not a catalytic converter. I was told by a mechanic it was. Either way this seems to be a large problem and should be fixed by Nissan.

18 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2002 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 08/19/2008

When we purchased the car used in sept 2007, it had 24,509 miles on it. The exhaust sounded somewhat loud but not too abnormal. Just under a year later, the exhaust was very loud and rattling. We took it in to the Nissan dealership and they told us the front exhaust tubes were rusted and leak. They said Nissan supplies a 'repair kit' to put a patch on these tubes. The dealership told us they have seen many other problems like this and I have found there are many entries for this exact problem on online forums. One such forum can be found at topix. Com. Just the fact that Nissan supplies a 'repair kit' to fix this exact problem shows these exhaust tubes are faulty and should be recalled.

19 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2003 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 08/01/2008

I have a 2003 Nissan Pathfinder with cracked exhaust pipes. These pipes are cracking on 02-04 Pathfinders, and this is a chronic problem. Nissan provides (for $200 per side) a patch that includes a bracket filled with foam and some hose clamps. This patch lasted about a week before the problem occurred again. Nissan will re-patch for another $400, or replace the parts (presumably with more defective parts) for upwards of $1500. . Read more...

20 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2002 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 07/30/2008

The contact owns a 2002 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact heard a loud noise coming from her vehicle. In addition, the engine warning indicator illuminated on the instrument control panel. She took her vehicle to a local repair shop and the technician stated that the catalytic converter was split in the middle. She took the vehicle to an authorized dealer and they stated that the resonator needed to be repaired instead of the catalytic converter. The repair would cost over $1,500. The vehicle has not been repaired. The contact recently smelled vapors coming from her vehicle. She filed a complaint with the manufacturer. The failure mileage was 58,000 and current mileage was 60,000. Updated 11/07/08. The front exhaust tubes were leaking and vent control valve was leaking. Updated 11/07/08.

21 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2002 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 07/08/2008

Rumbling sound coming from exhaust. Local repair shop said it was a leaking catalytic converter. Took it to Nissan dealership. They said it was a cracked tube in the exhaust and there was a service bulletin classification fe04-002. Reference ntb04-092. Issued 9-1-2004. They would not repair under warranty. My subsequent research found numerous complaints about this, mostly safety related, several people suffered dizziness while idling. I believe this is a safety issue and a defective product and should be recalled. Their fix is to clamp a patch on to the leaking area. Many of the reports I read said that this also fails. I would suggest that their solution is a failure also.

22 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2003 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 06/02/2008

2003 Nissan Pathfinder exhaust system disintegrated at connection point (vehicle has 85,000 mi. ). Have had the dealership advise and cost will be $1200. 00 to fix. Have searched on-line and found problem to be widespread with 2002-2003 Pathfinders.

23 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2002 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 04/09/2008

2002 Nissan Pathfinder - split seams in resonators / catalytic converter the exhaust on this vehicle had been a bit noisy since it was about a year old. Recently when it went to a shop for some undercar work, I was informed that the catalytic converters were both split and needed to be replaced. I brought the car back to the dealer and requested replacement under the 8 year 80,000 mile warranty mandated on emissions equipment. They informed me that those parts were indeed leaking badly, and that Nissan had so many failures that they had developed a special patch kit for them. I declined the patch due to an excessive cost for a few large clamps and some exhaust cement. Subsequent research indicates that numerous other Pathfinders of similar vintage have had the same problem, thus there is a manufacturing issue in the welding of the seams of this part which according to midas is a catalytic converter and according to Nissan is a resonator. This is a safety issue as carbon monoxide is being released directly under the passenger compartment. A complaint was filed with Nissan and they claim it is part of standard warranty and thus not covered, and they have not issued a recall. I informed them of my intent to proceed with complaints to NHTSA and a class action lawsuit if necessary to force a recall of this defect that is causing safety issues for all owners of Nissan Pathfinders of similar vintage.

24 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2002 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 10/20/2007

2002 Nissan Pathfinder has leaking exhaust tube that fail emissions test. Nissan has a TSB ntb04-092 but does not pay to fix this issue. The repair is a patch with questionable durability. Since this leak is directly beneath passenger compartment, an idling vehicle would pose a threat to occupants.

25 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2002 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 10/10/2007

1. Exhaust leak sounds, exhaust into cab of vehicle, loud rattling sounds while driving. 2. Noticed around 60,000 miles, progressively getting worse! 3. Taken to Nissan, Nissan refuses to pay for defect. Nissan claimed cracked pipes, no recall.

26 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2003 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 09/30/2007

September 2007- went to repair shop for oil change, was made aware of cracked catalytic converter November 2007- rear exhaust pipe fell off January 2008- went to muffler shop, was told that 2 catalytic converters and entire exhaust pipe need replacing. May 2008- went to Nissan dealer, was told that it is not my catalytic converters, but my "down pipes" that have severe cracks in them. Quoted over $600 for repair kit, as this is something that they claim to have seen often enough to create a patch kit for. Quoted $1300 for new parts. Severe exhaust in the vehicle passenger compartment, both with windows opened and closed. Vehicle only has 71,000 miles on it, and the catalytic converters, which 2 other repair shop have identified as the problem, are covered by warranty, but the down pipes, which only Nissan claims to be the problem, are not. This is now a very expensive safety issue, as the exhaust is unbearable.

27 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2005 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 09/20/2007

There is an exhaust system noise when a person sits in the rear seat. The Nissan dealership refuses to replace the faulty exhaust system. The exhaust system has shifted towards the front of the car causing the noise.

28 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2003 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 08/23/2007

My husband and I purchased a new 2003 Nissan Pathfinder se in July 03. In 2007, the "check engine light" came on. We took it to a dealer, who informed us that we needed to have the entire exhaust system replaced due to a crack in the pipe and the 02 sensor was making the light come on. They never informed us of a patch kit available. We did have the entire exhaust system replaced in 2008. We later came to find out this problem is occurring for many others with the same vehicle. We are doubly concerned about the affect that this has had on my 3 year old's asthma and respiratory issues (considering the emissions issues and what I am hearing from other's who's small children have similar issues and who also have this issue with their 03 Pathfinder). I would hope that a recall is required and that those of us affected will be duly compensated for Nissan's safety failure.

29 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2003 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 07/22/2007

The contact owns a 2003 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact noticed an exhaust leak coming from the vehicle. She took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that they would use a repair kit to remedy the failure. She was unsure if the vehicle would pass the safety inspection and stated that since there is an open TSB (NHTSA item number 10010378) for this failure, there should be a recall as well. The current and failure mileages were 31,472.

30 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2002 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 05/15/2007

I have a 2002 Nissan Pathfinder. The vehicle developed an exhaust leak about 2 years and 30,000 miles ago. The vehicle now has 100,000 miles on it. You could smell the exhaust leak and hear the exhaust leak. The leak is coming from the resonators or catalytic converter, whatever you want to call it. Figuring that my warranty was up, I had the vehicle fixed at my own cost. Recent investigation into website complaint forums made me realize that this has been a recurring problem for 02-03 Nissan Pathfinder owners and should have been covered under the 8/80 rule to be fixed by Nissan at no cost. The failure of Nissan to provide information to the owners of these vehicles that there is a possible problem with manufacturing is an outrage.

31 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2001 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 04/15/2007

Engine service light - catalytic converter. My mechanic fixed the engine sevice light being always on by bypassing something on the catalytic converter.

32 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2003 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 11/23/2005

Maine vehicle safety inspection revealed crack along welded seam of exhaust resonator pipe assembly. Vehicle had approximately 37,400 miles just out of basic warranty. Dealer would not consider part failure under emissions warranty, but quoted repairs of nearly $200 or purchase of kit consisting of 4 metal bars, 4 band clamps and 1-2 oz of sealant for $70. Nissan has issued service bulletin rtb04-094 ? repair of exhaust leak/noise at front tube implying they have had an on-going problem in this area. Local dealer readily acknowledged multiple instances of this problem appearing locally.

33 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2003 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 07/15/2005

About three weeks ago, the consumer noticed the exhaust tubes split. The consumer noticed this when he started the vehicle in the garage. There was noise coming from the exhaust tubes. The owner noticed the vehicle was leaking exhaust fumes. Then the vehicle was taken to the dealership and they repaired it. There were no warning lights on in the vehicle prior to this occurrence. The vehicle was regularly serviced. The owner has contacted the manufacturer, who stated they would call him back in 24 hours. The dealer did not replace the exhaust tubes, they just patched them. The consumer says there must be a defect where heat causes problems in the exhaust.

34 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2003 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 05/13/2005

Exhaust tubes on 2003 Nissan Pathfinder cracked before reached the 24,000 warranty expiration. Nissan "patched" tubes rather than replaced them. The patch failed this year and I am fighting with them because they should have used new parts in the first place. I can not tell if this is endangering the environment, however, I know that many Pathfinder owners are experiencing early failure of the exhaust system and Nissan is not owning up to their design defect.

35 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2001 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 10/13/2004

The entire exhaust system (from and including y-pipe and back) had to be replaced because the entire system was completely rusted out. My mechanic said it was the most rusted out system he had ever seen. I believe this was due to incorrect making of the product. This may be similar to the other recall in which the lack of properly coating the items caused premature rusting.
