6 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2018 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 02/23/2018

My husband roger and I purchased a 2018 Nissan Pathfinder less than a week ago at granite Nissan in rapid city, sd. We drove to dickinson, nd to drop off my stepson to see his mother as required by court order every month. The trip there has no cellular service and temperatures that reach subzero. Upon arriving in dickinson, we had the check engine light come on while driving approximately 65 mph and the rpms became erratic. We also noticed decreased fuel efficiency. The light came on with less than 400 total miles on the vehicle. We consulted the user manual which advised to drive the car to the dealership with the check engine light remaining on. Unfortunately, when we received the notification of ready for pick up, there was no resolve. The serviceman claimed that it was an issue currently being investigated by Nissan. He said they cleared the error and that we will notice less efficiency with gas mileage and stated the vehicle wouldn't breakdown but was unsure of what may happen. We purchased this brand new vehicle to better ensure a safe means to drive in desolate areas and in extreme weather conditions while monthly tranporting our son for visitation. The service technician was dismissive/belittled our concerns when asking about safety, especially with the special circumstances and that we have a one year old and six year old who ride daily in the car in addition to our 14 year old who takes the monthly trips to nd. We are waiting for Nissan to reply with when and how the error code p34a9, intake timing control will be fixed and if damage to the engine or other parts of the vehicle while this error occurs. If we are stranded in desolate nd in extreme temperatures, our lives will be at risk as even if the sos feature were to be pressed, the nearest emergency responders are hours away. We've inquired with Nissan about the safety of this 2018 Pathfinder.

12 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2002 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 11/29/2014

The first time while driving the Pathfinder in regular driving conditions, the engine stalled at approximately 30 mph. To restart the engine I had to put the transmission in neutral and turn the key all the way off and then restart the vehicle. The second time this happened I was driving again the same day, cruising along at about 50 mph in traffic, and the engine died again with no warning. The instrument cluster showed all the typical "dummy lights" after the engine failed the first two times. When we parked the Pathfinder we could smell gas at the rear passenger door on the drivers side. We took the Pathfinder to the shop for repair. Fuel smell was corrected by installing a fuel pump seal and the fuel pump system was reseated, and reinstalled after an incorrect installation by a previous mechanic. After receiving the Pathfinder back fro our shop, the engine died again while sitting in a parked position running in an idle state. No instrument cluster lights came on when engine died this time (the 3rd time), no check engine or codes displayed. Then while driving again at 50 mph in normal driving conditions the engine died again, no indication of electrical issues, no flashes in headlights, interior lights, no flux in the hvac fan, nothing. Tachometer dropped to zero with no other indication the engine died, no vibration, no jerking. I put the transmission in neutral, shut of the key, and try to restart with no success. I coasted the car to the side of the road and turned the key off and removed it from the ignition and then re inserted it to restart the Pathfinder. Again, no check engine lights, no codes, nothing to indicate a problem. I purchased this car used only days ago 11/30/2014, and it has spent everyday in the shop trying to resolve this issue. It has only 96540 original miles on it, and is a very clean vehicle.

17 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2013 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 02/08/2013

Detected intermittent heat failure in the rear of the vehicle as well as the area surrounding the occupant's feet. Check engine light came on after 10 days of ownership. Dealership determined code was "transmission fluid pressure switch. " the service tech erased the code without performing service. 5 days later driver detected transmission slippage. Drove the vehicle to the dealership. Service tech and driver took a test drive. Service tech confirmed transmission was slipping. While driving back to the dealership, the driver pressed the gas pedal and the car wouldn't move. This created a safety issue for the driver and service tech. It happened twice more and the vehicle almost got stuck under the door trying to return to the dealership. Diagnosis by dealer: cvt failure.

18 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2013 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 12/29/2012

While I was driving with my 5 year old and 5 month old my 2013 Pathfinder on 12/29 (which I had for 1 month)it started feeling like it was missing gears and sputtering. The rpms started to rev up between 4000-5000 and was only going about 45 mph and the vehicle was not going any faster, and the car was jerking as I was driving it. I stopped and turned the car off hoping it was just a fluke but when I stared it it would not move when I was in reverse I then put in drive again it was doing the same thing but this time the check engine light came on, and I even pressed the cruise to see if that would work and it wouldn't work either. I brought it to the dealership and they told me it was a transmission module chip that needed to be replaced. I waited 10 days and finally they said it was ready. I picked it up and literally turned around because it was doing the exact same thing except this time as I took my foot of the pedal the vehicle did not decelerate and continued to drive at 60mph without me pressing the gas until I hit the brake it started to slow down, thank god, all while my baby is in the car with me. Since then it has been at the dealership which does not know what to do now and I have been in contact with Nissan expressing my concern for the vehicles safety, and the fact it is brand new a month old car and the only thing that I'm being told is that they are sending a tech from Nissan and they're really sorry about my trouble. So now the car just sits at the dealership going on a month and neither one I feel has been really concerned with trying to fix the vehicle in a timely manner or worried on the safety of it. I am totally disappointed with the way the dealership and Nissan have handled the situation. So much for them being concerned about the well being and safety of their passengers.
