2 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2014 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 12/09/2019

On Monday 12/9/2019 I was driving the Pathfinder alone on audelia road in dallas texas. The speed limit is 35 mph in this area. I was the only person in the vehicle and there was nothing in the passenger seat. Around 11:00 am I heard a loud explosion and the vehicle was filled with dust while in motion. Assuming I was hit I pulled over and exited my car. After I got out of the car I noticed there were no other cars in the area. I walked around the outside of the car and saw zero damage. (photo attached) I looked back into the car and then saw that all of the passenger side airbags deployed. (photo attached) the airbags on the driver side did not deploy. My head was pounding and my eyes hurt from all the dust that was shot out in the air bags deploying. Aaa towed my car to trophy Nissan in mesquite texas. The dealership would not touch the vehicle as they stated it was a manufacture issue. I have called Nissan and started the process. The engineer sent by Nissan has assessed the vehicle and stated that he sees no physical, electrical or after market parts that would have triggered the failure. (photo attached) we have yet to hear from Nissan on what their conclusion is but the air bag failure is a serious issue and could have hurt my infant child severely as this is the side her car seat is located. Last-we are under the impression we had the airbag recall issue repaired in April 2019. Trophy Nissan was very misleading with their answers on the recall repairs. Paperwork attached.

3 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2013 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 09/03/2019

Through internet search some 2013-2017 Nissan Pathfinders passenger airbags have a recall issued. After contacting Nissan motor corp. It was explained recalls are VIN specific. I requested an explanation of the process Nissan uses to determine what VIN apply, what department would be able to explain, why would the dealer need to answer the why and how's Nissan determines what VIN apply. The Nissan rep in short explained, he didn't have any answers. The dealer that sold me the vehicle has exceptional service. This matter should in no way reflect on the dealer. Nissan as a three step repair plan for the passenger side airbag if the VIN wasn't listed on the recall. It is my understanding the repair can cost up to $2500. 00-$3000. 00. It appears the airbag issue must have been missed on my VIN. Based on Nissan passenger side airbag repair bulletin it can take up to 3 trips with the cost increasing each time. In my opinion, if some 2013-2017 Pathfinder passenger airbags are recalled there must be an issue. With that said, anyone who's VIN wasn't originally listed should be able to have the passenger side airbag repaired under the recall.

4 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2014 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 07/14/2019

Bought car a year ago, everything fine. Then all of a sudden the passenger side airbag stopped working or stopped detecting anyone sitting in the front seat. An apparent known issue for Nissan from 2013-2017. I was driving while I had a passenger in the front seat and noticed the airbag was turned off. And light was flashing. The person was over the weight limit that turns it off. I tried reaching out to Nissan and they stated it's only VIN specific but yet it's a known issue for this year and model as well as many others.

5 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2011 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 02/28/2019

Air blag light illuminated at 107,716 miles on vehicle. Taken into dealership and given an error code with a recommendation to replace drivers side air bag and spiral cable. Was given a quote of $1300+ to fix. This is a huge safety risk and the vehicle has never been involved in any accidents which have caused the airbag to deploy. The dealership had no explanation as to why this would happen. It would not occur under normal wear and tear conditions. It is a manufacturer defect, yet there are no recalls. Nissan needs to look into this issue!!.

6 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2013 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 04/30/2018

My passenger side airbag remains off even when a passenger is present. However, there is no recall for the 2013 Nissan Pathfinder. I took it to the dealer but because there is no information in the system for my VIN, they were reluctant to help. Because my warranty is expired, its not covered.

11 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2014 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 04/21/2016

Passenger side airbag turns off with adult sitting in passenger seat. The malfunction occurs when sitting still or in motion. The vehicle has been to the dealership 6 times for the issue. The implementation of the recall was the first attempt to fix the problem. Three attempts later Nissan directed the dealership to replace all components for the passenger side airbag and the problem is not fixed. Of note, the dealership is very courteous, provides me with a loaner vehicle each time, but acts like my car is the only Nissan to ever have this problem. 2014 Nissan Pathfinder platinum 4wd 30,000 miles.

12 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2013 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 09/30/2015

While turning at a stops sign on a city street, going approximately 5 mph, I hit a shallow pothole & my entire passenger side airbags deployed. The airbag hit my 8 year old daughter in the face who was sitting in the back passenger seat. This caused her to have swelling, redness & whelps to the right side of her face & neck. I submitted a claim to Nissan to which they determined that they were not liable for the damages caused by the airbags to the interior of my vehicle.

13 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2015 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 06/14/2015

Driving down on florida highway I-75 . Ahead was a previous accident with debris in the road. Reduced speed to try to avoid most of the debris that was scattered along the 4 lanes. I happen to get a piece of debris impacting front tire and having it go underneath my car. As this occurred the ecu must have somehow detected a side collision but there was none that occurred and deployed all side airbags removing most of the headliner.

14 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2014 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 04/26/2015

Passenger side airbag not working.

15 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2014 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 03/21/2015

We had a new 2014 Nissan Pathfinder that was less than a year old. We were hit from behind into another car. It was enough impact to total a new car. The side airbags deployed when the impact was front/back. Neither the driver or the passenger airbags deployed. I had a lot of bruising from the seat belt & my husband had a head related injury like a concussion due to the impact as well as us both having back pain issues. I feel that if I hadn't been wearing my seat belt seeing how badly I was bruised & a knot in my breast from the impact that I would have definitely hit the windshield or worse. I was in a much less severe accident when I was a child & hit my head on the windshield. That is why I feel very strongly that if I hadn't been wearing my seat belt, it failed, etc that I would have hit the windshield. I have personal experience unfortunately before I realized how important seat belts were. We always wondered why the front airbags (both passenger and driver) didn't deploy considering the impact was from the rear and front. Now that there is a recall, it makes perfect sense. The side passenger airbags did deploy, but not the front passenger. . . Or driver for that matter. We were completely stopped in a tunnel due to a quick traffic problem when the car behind us hit us. The impact was hard enough to push us into the stopped car in front of us. They had to close the tunnel down to tow our car as well as the car behind us out of the tunnel. 2 of 3 cars were not drive-able and our car was totaled. I am sure the car behind us was totaled also. We ended up getting a 2015 Nissan Pathfinder - because we thought it was one of the safest options - & now there is a recall on those airbags but the parts aren't available. So this is very concerning. . . Photos attached are of the side airbags that deployed. At least 2 injuries +.

16 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2014 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 06/19/2014

The contact owns a 2014 Nissan Pathfinder. When the front passenger seat was occupied, the air bag sensor would illuminate intermittently. This indicated that the passenger side air bag was deactivated. The dealer stated that the osc unit was faulty. The unit was replaced, but the failure recurred when a 125 pound passenger occupied the passenger seat. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer who was unable to find any defects with the air bag system. The dealer stated that the passenger side air bag should deactivate for passengers up to 130 pounds. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 2,257.

17 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2013 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 06/01/2014

2013 Nissan Pathfinder. Vehicle has repeated problems of the passenger side air bag. The consumer stated in June 2014, he received a received recall notice r1405 to reprogram the software. The reprogramming was complete, but did not resolve the problem so he had to return the vehicle to the dealer for another reprogram, but to no avail. On December 1, 2014, the consumer returned to the dealer so they could replace the seat sensors to eliminate the problem which did not fix the issue. The dealer claimed it might be a controller that needed to be replaced. The dealer advised the consumer not to drive the vehicle, until the issue was resolved.

18 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2013 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 08/24/2013

We noticed early after purchase of our 2013 Nissan Pathfinder that the passenger side air bag disable light would come on whether or not there was someone sitting in that seat. Brought to dealership and not much help. Reprogram and the same issue appeared in just a few days. Months later Nissan issued a recall for programming. This still did not change the problem. Dealership replaced the entire seat at no cost to myself. Light still comes on when someone is sitting in seat at random times or no one is the seat. Someone is going to get hurt without the airbag deploying correctly. And how do we know it is actually going to work?.

19 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2013 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 08/08/2013

Problem 1: we bought the vehicle new in July. After about two weeks the car begin to shudder between 15-20 mph. It feels like we are driving over rumble strips. We took the car to the Nissan dealer where we purchased it. They said there was a campaign for the problem and would order a torque converter. We were told it was on back order. After two and half weeks the part was installed. The day we picked up the car it still had the same issues. We have notified the dealership of the continuing problem. Problem 2: the front passenger side airbag goes on and off randomly, turning off the airbag. We told the dealership when we brought it in for the shuddering. They said it was a weight limit issue and the way we sit. We told them it does it for our son who weighs 90 pounds and that we sit the same way every time. We also told them it does it for me off and on in the same day and that our weight doesn't fluctuate that much in the same day. We were told it tested fine, so it will not need repair. Just this morning I got in the passenger side the light was off, we went into a store and when I got back in the car the light was on. I have told the dealership about this again today.

25 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2007 Nissan Pathfinder

Failure Date: 07/10/2009

My husband was driving to work on the m1 doing 70 mph when the passenger side impact air bags deployed and exploded for no reason. Luckily my husband froze and slowly moved over to the slow lane. The vehicle was recovered and taken back to the dealer were they said they could not find why it had gone off. So they called Nissan for advice who then came out and took the air bag sensor system out to be tested. They also said that they found a scratch and 2 small dents underneath of the drivers side foot rail which were fresh and that we most of drove over something and that could have set the motion sensor to trigger the air bag to deploy. I explained that we had never drove over anything or known to have had any damage done to the underneath of the vehicle. They replied that the motion sensors most have felt that the car might have over turned therefore activating the opposite side air bags. After seeing the indentation for myself I find it hard to believe that the vehicles wheels would have not lifted off the road so how can the sensors think that it was going to turn over. Two days later I received a call explaining that Nissan was taking responsibility for the damage and that it was not going to be covered under the warranty, but they replaced the sensor system with a brand new one. Why would they replace it if there was nothing wrong with the old one? I asked them what would need replacing they said a new seat, air bags and roof liner and that it would cost thousands. Normally I would have been driving the vehicle at that time of day with my 2 children sat there and I have not been able to sleep since it happened due to thinking what could have happened, as it could have caused a fatality.
