I have taken my Pathfinder to the shop on several occasions to have the transmission fixed. It shutters at slow speeds. My husband was told that Nissan's do that and nothing is wrong. We had the cvt sensor replaced and it stopped for a while. Well now it shutters at low speeds while turning a corner, in slow moving traffic, high speeds going down the interstate and sometimes when you press on the gas pedal after being stopped at a light it will act like the transmission is not engaging and then all of a sudden it will engage and make the car leap forward and it will shake. We purchased the vehicle from vic bailey Ford in August 2015, was told that it still had the manufacturer warranty left on it and benson Nissan in spartanburg would not honor the warranty because we didn't purchase the vehicle from them. This transmission problem has been an on going problem since we purchased the vehicle.

Vehicle shutters when trying to change gears. This occurs when driving at high and low speeds (it has an automatic transmission). If the vehicle is cold and I put it in drive, the transmission will not engage. When idling, the car blows cold air in the front, even if its set on the warmest temperature. The car consistently blows cold air in the back, whether its idling or being driven. After having my car looked at, the problem was found to be caused by a cracked radiator that leaked coolant into the transmission. Not only causing damage to the transmission, but also to the heater hose which is beyond repair and needs replacement. After doing research, I have found that this has been a major issue for Nissans with a year of 2005 to 2010, and although they did not do a recall, they offered an extended warranty up to $80,000 and 100,000 with a customer CO-pay. But for most people that problem did not start occurring until after 100,000 miles. . . Like myself. There was a class action lawsuit on this which settled in October of 2012. I bought my car from a Nissan dealership in April of 2011. Why was I not made aware of this at the time of purchase?!.

Tl-the contact owns a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated that while driving approximately 15 mph the vehicle would not engage in fourth gear, it just makes a noise but it does not accelerate. The service engine warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the diagnosis was that it needed a new transmission. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 103,000. Bp.

Just after exiting freeway, vehicle's automatic transmission failed to engage in any forward gears. This caused forward movement to reduce to extremely slow motion. If this occurred while on the freeway, and if a driver panicked, not immediately moving off to the side, it could have caused an accident with potentially serious consequences. This problem is widely known and has been dealt with to a limited extent. Don't see a place on this complaint form to indicate what the problem is. Transmission was contaminated with coolant due to lower trans line in radiator's lower tank being ruptured. Radiator was also cross contaminated with transmission fluid. This common problem in certain model 2005 - 2007 Nissan's is not currently a recall (it should be), and the limited extended warranty in the Nissan settlement offers no reimbursement for vehicles having this problem with over 100,000 miles, as is the case with most of us. I hope you are aware of the several thousand people who have had this potentially dangerous problem over the years, and the thousands more who will continue to have this same problem in the years to come.

Vehical at 5400 rpm on level road would only achieve a speed of 41 mph, this was on a highway paused with a posted speed limit of 65 mph. Vehicle paused, shuttered and engine seemed to be working but transmission would not engage completely. We felt that we could have been rear ended and killed. This was three days after Nissan had replaced the transmission for shuttering at 19 mph over a six month period. After stopping several times the vehicle reacted as close to normal as we would expect, just in time to get home. We have brought this vehcle to the dealer ship for passenger side airbag light showing it was off, when it should have been on, for back up sensor acting as though off but actaully off, the smell of antifreeze and no leaks and last the brakes delaying. Nissan continued until recently stated that it was normal. There are numerious sites stating these same issues. We could have been killed, this is serious, no power on th expressway.

Wife was driving home from work. Was in middle lane of traffic stopped at red light. Tried to accelerate but transmission would not engage. Eventually transmission worked for a few seconds. Pulled off road. Inspected vehicle. All gears (including reverse) do not engage. Did some online research this evening and looks like this is a very common problem. Why has there not be a recall for this problem?.
Came to stop at light. Tried to accelerate and transmission was not engaging. Eventually was able to put car in 1st gear and transmission engaged. Was able to pull off road. Turned off vehicle and tried to engage any gear. Transmission totally gone.
Vehicle was stop at red light of very busy intersection. When light turned green the vehicle accelerated and then would only coast in neutral while transmission was not engaging. Wife and 3 children were stuck in middle of intersection. Had to turn the vehicle off and then on to get transmission to re-engage and drive. This issue happened a half dozen more times. This owner took vehicle to local Nissan dealer and was charged for computer analysis. This owner was told there was a "known" issue with transmission of this particular vehicle being contaminated from inner cooler. This owner was told that it would cost over $5500 to fix. This owner did intense research on safety and mechanical problem and found thousands of Nissan owners with same issue. This vehicle needs to be recalled for "known" issue.
Was parked at stop light and proceeded when green and transmission failed to engage to 2nd gear. Pulled off the road and put car in park. Put back in drive and tried to proceed and transmission jerked back and forth between 1st and second gear, but did finally transition to second gear.
Several times and noticed that the transmission does not engage and the car loses speed. I took the car to the dealer and they told me that becaue is a cvt transmission was normal. But the car is still doing the same.
While driving at approx 40 mph, the transmission suddenly disengaged; rpms went up to 5000; was like being in neutral. At the time, I was traveling up a slight incline without a shoulder or safe area to stop. Stopped in the roadway. Had it towed to Nissan dealership. They advised that they were aware of the ¿known issue� for a long time and that the radiator part that cools the transmission fluid failed and radiator fluid had entered the transmission causing the transmission to fail. This known issue, was never a recall and Nissan had no intentions on a recall due to a class action lawsuit. Unfortunately, my vehicle mileage is over the class action lawsuit settlement mileage and therefore Nissan will not take any responsibility; leaving ¿strict instructions� to Nissan customer affairs to specifically not offer any assistance to persons affected by this ¿known issue�. Nissan dealership service dept advised that Nissan had ¿fixed� the ¿known issue� on a newer model of radiator. Nissan should have recalled the product for a safety inspection and replaced all parts known to fail. Total estimated cost to repair at Nissan dealership started around $8000 and negotiated to $5000. Several private transmission repair shop estimates are approx. $4000. Most private auto shops will not touch this repair due to the ¿known issue� and no confidence that Nissan ¿fixed� the ¿known issue�. Request an investigation with an eye towards safety recall & reimbursement for those who already had to pay out of pocket.
Lost power, transmission not engaging, was told that it was radiator coolant was leaking in the system. After transmission was replaced after at approximately 27,000 miles same incident happened again.
The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated that the vehicle would hesitate when shifting gears and would not engage when shifted into reverse. And the vehicle would lung forward at any time. In addition, the vehicle would lunge forward abnormally at any time without warning. The dealer diagnosed that the transmission would need to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified and assisted the contact with the failure. The failure mileage was 92,900 and the current mileage was 93,000.
The transmission failed at 52,800 miles. No "slamming" of gears or shuddering or difficulty in shifting that would indicate an issue. Transmission serviced at 40,000 miles and oil change/fluid check and state inspection passed 8 weeks prior to failure. When shifted into reverse, gear would not engage for several seconds. Because acceleration/gas had been given, when the gear did engage, the engine would rev and reverse at approximately 20 mph causing near accidents with other vehicles and pedestrians in vicinity. Brought to Nissan dealer and was informed transmission fluid was burned. I requested the radiator be examined and although the dealer said they did it does not show on my service receipt. Dealer stated it was a faulty transmission only, no radiator involvement. I was 3 months outside of the drivetrain warranty. After 7 days of negotiation, Nissan decided to pay for part of the rebuilt transmission and labor. Over $2000 out of pocket for trans and rental car. All service performed at regular intervals, all service records kept. All services were performed at dealer the vehicle was purchased from. Safety recalls should not be business decisions based on saving large companies the millions they are cheating their customers out of on unusual repairs above and beyond normal maintenance. They should be based on saving lives and preventing accidents. I nearly hit a pedestrian due to this sudden transmission failure.
