Nissan Pathfinder owners have reported 22 problems related to transmission not go into gear (under the power train category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Nissan Pathfinder based on all problems reported for the Pathfinder.
While driving, from a stop, a loud clunk occurred and the vehicle would not shift out of low gear. Upon arrival at home and inspection, it was noted that the coolant was contaminated with a dark fluid. The vehicle will not engage any gear at this time and is not drivable. Research indicates that suspected cause is cross contamination between coolant and transmission fluid, most likely due to radiator deficiency.

The vehicle will not shift gears due to coolant in the transmission. This has essentially ruined the transmission due to the radiator failing and allowing coolant into the transmission via the transmission fluid coolant lines that run through the bottom of the radiator.

The shift interlock does not disengage when the brake pedal is depressed keeping the vehicle from being able to shift into gear. The vehicle is stationary and cannot engage any gears this has continued to happen daily since it began.
Tl the contact owns a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer (melloy Nissan, 7707 lomas blvd ne, albuquerque, nm 87110, (505) 545-6420) for a routine oil change and inquired about failures with the transmission; however, the dealer found no failures. The contact stated that the vehicle's transmission malfunctioned and would not shift gears. The contact took the vehicle back to the dealer and was informed that the radiator was cracked and the fluid seeped into the transmission fluid. The repair cost would exceed $5,000. The manufacturer was not contacted. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 81,957.

I take my car to steven creek Nissan dealer located in santa clara California to fix the brake switch recall ntb16-062 on 10/1/2016. I started have having problem with my gear shift lock issue on 10/18/2016. I cannot shift my gear unless I use a screw drive. I cannot move my gear from park position unless I use a screw driver. I took my car to the dealer on 10/29 and they found that brake lamp stop switch (which they inspected on 10/1) is out of spec and adjusted back into spec and release my car. For that adjustment they charge me $160 for it which I think is unfair because they are the one who touch it on 10/1. Before they touch it I never have this problem. On 10/30/2016 the problem reappeared I still cannot shift the gear without a screw driver. Car transmission is in shift lock.
Enjoying our Pathfinder one afternoon and went to pass a car and it would not kick inot passing gear. When we stopped I could smell that it was hot, but could not find a leak. After letting it cool, I checked the coolant level and found that grey froth in the radiator. A quick check on the internet lead me to me worst fear. I am still in the process of flushing radiator and getting quotes. Local aamco guy said that transmission is doomed, and they see a lot of these. $4,000 - 4500 to rebuild. So much money for such an easy repair had I known before the radiator gave up. No more Nissans for this family!.

Vehicle has service engine light came on. Vehicle would not shift gears properly while in traffic and occur sporadically. Diagnostic code revealed p1754 a known issue with transmission and radiator.
The contact owns a 2007 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated that the vehicle would not change gears from drive into reverse. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The vehicle was unable to be driven and was towed to the contact's residence. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available.
Approx. 1 year ago I noticed that my engine coolant had trans fluid in it so I looked online and found the extended warranty. I then took the Pathfinder into hamilton Nissan in hagerstown MD. They replaced the radiator and installed a rebuilt transmission. About 3 weeks ago I noticed that the Pathfinder was not shifting into overdrive. Now the transmission will not shift into overdrive and now slips in and out of 2nd and 3rd gear. This is very dangerous. I was almost t-boned this morning because the Pathfinder would not go into gear while the trans was in drive, which is why I am submitting this complaint.
I just bought this SUV from a used car lot back on Feb 16th 2015 I started to notice a problem with the transmission shifting funny so I had a 3 month warranty from the used car lot I purchased it from. I took it to a Nissan dealership to have a dyno test,to figure out exactly what was going on. I get a call from them 2 hrs later saying the radiator bleed into the transmisson and was not lubing the gears properly switched caused the transmisson to sleep and as a result of this I need a new transmission for 6050. 00 for both +labor ext. I call the lot I purchased this from and he stays there is nothing he can do for me the 3 month power train warranty I have was void because the radiator caused the problem ive done my research on this problem over 600+ complaints and problems from this very same thing I will never buy another Nissan in my life.
I purchased my car new with may 3-7 miles on it in 2006. I've never had a problems as I keep it serviced on time at the Nissan dealership. The car started performing weirdly this past week. The noise started out as a ticking sound when I would press the accelerator and by the end of the week my car sounded like a motorcycle when I pressed the accelerator! I would even "stutter" when I what on the interstate like it was not in gear. I got two separate diagnostics, one at the dealership, one at a non-dealership mechanic who said it was the transmission!.
I have been experiencing a shuddering and hesitation with my transmissions for months now. I usually feel this when accelerating from low speeds. It is a shaking/vibrating felling and it feels like the car does not want to shift gears. I have complained about this to east charlotte Nissan since October, where at first I was told it was a recall. Well, another individual, said it was not showing up as a recall at that time. I took it back in December, but the car still did not have a recall. As the problem persisted, I took it back to the same dealership where I was told that the transmission was given an update and that if it continued to bring it back because Nissan requires them to go through a series of steps before replacing the transmission. Well this past week (June 15-21), it has gotten much worse. In addition to the shuddering, hesitation, and vibration while accelerating, the vehicle has begun almost acting like it was to stall while decelerating. This is becoming extremely dangerous and it needs to be corrected. I have another aappointment scheduled for Tuesday. Hopefully this time I will get some results.

Had been experiencing some issues which I thought was transmission. I took car to dealer April 2013 and was told car was in good mechanical order. On January 28, 2014 while driving 40 mph on indian head highway with my elderly parents the car made a loud noise and speed significantly reduced. I was not able to increase speed or shift to another gear. I was able to drift to shoulder and stop car. I had the car towed to dealer and was told that the radiator had a crack causing coolant to leak into transmission thereby ruining (forever) the transmission. After research discovered that this is a known problem of the 06 Nissan Pathfinder. This issue should have been recalled. If I was on the highway going at high speed this could have caused a major accident.
I was on expressway, driving approximately 60-65 miles per hour and without warning car lost all its ability to accelerate or maintain speed. Car engine would rev when you pressed on the accelerator but the car would not respond. Vehicles behind me had to hit on there brakes and go around me as I attempted to steer vehicle to the side of the expressway. Once vehicle came to a stop, my transmission would not engage in any gear leaving me stranded. I had to have vehicle towed to my home. I was informed by Nissan that engine coolant had leaked into my transmission and ruined my transmission. I have since found out this is a common problem on Nissan Pathfinders and the cost to repair vehicle is between 4 and 5 thousand dollars.
While driving transmission did not want to shift gears. Took to Nissan dealer. They stated has coolant and transmission fluid mixing. Coolant hose ruptured inside transmission.
The 2005 Nissan Pathfinder was going down the road and it began to hard shift. The revs would go high and then the car would shift very hard. Then while going down the road at about 55mph the car shifted into neutral. The car would not engage any gears and I had to pull of the road. Once the vehicle was stopped it would not engage any gears. I tried to reset from park and still nothing. I turned off the car and then back on,then I placed the car into "d" drive at which time it had a long delay before engaging the gear hard. Then I rolled off slowly and again, it reved up high before going into the next gear. As soon as I got to about 20 mph it shifted into neutral before coasting to a stop. I had to repeat the off/on procedure and keep it under 20 mph before I got to a safe place. The car continue to go down the road between 15-20 mph at high revs in order to get it to a mechanic shop. There were no warning signs, no indicators that the car was going to shift into neutral and the worst thing is that I was with my family in the car when this occured with a high volume of cars on the road which made it a dangerous condition for the car to unexpectedly shift into neutral.
My wife was driving with kids in the vehicle when power in the transmission when to nothing then sporadically started working and not. She intelligently was able to avoid an accident and get the vehicle to a side road in a boat ramp parking area where the vehicle would not run in any gear. I was called and made aware of the situation and called my parents to pick then up for this was our only vehicle of transportation. After work my dad, uncle and I had the vehicle towed to our home where it has set since. Due to finding out that Nissan already had a class action lawsuit over this and the ruling with the mileage on my vehicle does not fall into any compensation or assistance to be fixed though the vehicle is only six years old. Just don't understand how transmission failure on a busy road does not constitute a safety recall. My understanding of issue doesn't seem to be mileage related as much as time of the problem to happen.
Vehicle was running normal till we park to have lunch. Start vehicle fine place shifter in gear (drive) was not taking any gear. We have vehicle taking to Nissan dealer. They determine cause due to a faulty radiator leaking coolant to transmission Nissan was not going to do any warranty repairs on the vehicle because vehicle was out warranty.
Automatic transmission started to slip and would not go into gears. After parking the car, found that the car would not go into reverse either and all it would do is rev. Car has been on regular maintenance schedule. Very disappointed to see that this problem occurred with under 100k miles.
My Pathfinder has 150,000 miles on the transmission. The Pathfinder is a 2005. The problem with the vehicle is that the transmission is malfunctioning. While driving on the freeway, I had trouble with the power in the vehicle. It was slipping and not going into gear all the time. The mechanic stated that it is an electrical problem with the transmission and that Nissan already knew of the problem but did not do a recall on the transmission. Also because the transmission slipped, it also lunged forward while driving it. This could cause a major accident. At this point, Nissan is not acknowledging that it is a problem with their vehicles. They said they would not discuss the problem unless it was diagnosed by a Nissan dealer at a cost of several hundred dollars.
The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated the radiator and transmission fluids were mixing together abnormally and causing the vehicle to stall. In addition, the vehicle would not change gears as a result of the failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who advised the contact to replace the transmission and radiator. There were no recalls for the failure. The manufacturer was contacted who advised that they will give her a return call within a few days. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 102,000.
