1 Air Bag problem of the 2017 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 11/02/2023

Air bag light went off beginning of Nov 2023. Took to the dealership, they diagnosed the air bag module and harness as bad. Paid $2k to replace that, took 2 days for part to arrive. Fast forward, mid December 2023, air bag light on again. Take back to dealership and now the passenger side air bag has failed and needs to be replaced. $3k estimated to replace. Many Nissan vehicles (much later year models) have passenger side air bag recalls. This should be under recall as well as the module.

5 Air Bag problem of the 2015 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 10/31/2021

The passenger side curtain airbag spontaneously stopped working. The airbag warning light started flashing on the dashboard, and we took it in to the dealership. They reset the code warning, but the light came on again. They said they needed to replace the airbag after trying to replace the sensor and having the same issue. The van has not been in any accidents or had any side impacts and has about 72,000 miles on it. Nissan refuses to cover any part of the $3,000 repair cost since the manufacturer warranty expires at 60,000 miles. The dealership advised us that since there's an issue with one airbag, it's possible that no airbags would deploy in the event of a crash. So the airbag or airbag system is faulty and possibly has been all along, but we just now got the warning light. Obviously driving a car without working airbags is incredibly unsafe, and Nissan doesn't seem to think they should have to stand behind their products or consumers to fix the issue and ensure their safety.

19 Air Bag problem of the 2004 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 04/07/2009

We bought our Quest used from a Honda dealership in December 2008. We were told it was in very good condition. The electric doors do not always open or close when we want them to. . . They seem to have a mind of their own. The passenger airbags turn themselves on and off. After only driving it for a few months, the front end started popping when we would turn a corner. We checked the lower ball joints, being as this is a typical characteristic. There was no problem with them. We continued to drive it. About 3 months ago, the van started shaking real bad when we would brake, and the front tires started lifting tread. We took the van to a mechanic to check the alignment and source of shaking. He told us the alignment was fine. . . No adjustments were needed. He said the popping was the ball joints. We bought two new ball joints, and upon removing the control arm and ball joint assembly, we realized the problem was in the rear bushing of the front control arm, not the ball joint. The rubber is rotted out. You can not see this problem until you remove the whole arm. I was told I had to hit a curb really hard to break these, but have not hit any curbs hard ever in this van. I feel the dealer should have to fix this, since I have noticed this is an extrememly reoccuring problem with this year/make/model. Upon replacing the tires, the new ones treads are lifting. They were replaced 6 weeks ago.

20 Air Bag problem of the 2004 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 05/09/2008

5/10/08-just had a front end collision in our 2004 Nissan Quest minivan carrying myself, husband & 3 children-one in a carseat. Driver in other vehicle failed to yield to my right of way and impact was made by my van to the side of her car with me going approx. 35mph and she was going about the same. My body came forward even with the seatbelt buckled, my sons chests are bruised from the seatbelts and none. . . None. . . Of the airbags in that van deployed!!! we bought the van for safety reasons! we purchased it because of the side curtain airbags & not even the front airbags deployed! I want this looked into and I want some answers as to why they didn't deploy. Were there even airbags in the van? obviously we haven't seen the damage in daylight hours, but at those speeds and since we hit head on at the very least the airbags in front should have deployed. Thank you.

21 Air Bag problem of the 2004 Nissan Quest

28 Air Bag problem of the 1999 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 06/23/2004

My wife was driving approximately 40 mph in a 45 mph zone. A vehicle in front of her had to make a sudden stop due to another motorist in front of it was turning left and she applied the brakes and could not stop in time and she rear ended the driver in front of her. Neither air bag deployed in the 1999 Nissan Quest. We have contacted our insurance company (american family) and the adjuster sadi that the air bags shouldn't have deployed due the crash of the vehicle and the way it hit. My wife sustained injuries of her back and neck in this crash and we believe the air bags should have deployed. We contacted Nissan and they also said the bags should not have deployed due to not enough force of some ball bearing used to activate the air bags. They (Nissan) sent us a vhs tape on air bags, but declined to send someone out to investigate the vehicle. We still have the vehicle in our driveway and would be grateful of any and all help your agency could provide.

30 Air Bag problem of the 2001 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 03/15/2003

Involved in a low impact auto accident (probably less than 40 mph because air bags weren't even deployed, no injuries whatsoever sustained by myself and other driver, miniscule damage to other vehicle) in 11/01. Immediately car was on fire which resulted in total loss of vehicle. Alleging that the Nissan Quest is inherently unsafe due to poor frontal design of vehicle (see results of insurance institute for highway safety crash test results) - this is result of minivan catching fire so easily and rapidly. Attempts to resolve matter with Nissan ignored (asked for replacement of items lost in car/amt not covered by gap insurance, approx. $5000 total). Now will seek recovery of funds via lawsuit.

34 Air Bag problem of the 1996 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 12/01/1999

The srs airbag system module located under the drivers side dash is defective. This is a problem which is well known on the 1996 Quest. The vehicle owner becomes aware of the problem by the red dash indictor light blinking on and off. Nissan is aware of the srs system failure but will not cover replacement for this part unless vehicle is under warranty. This is a chronic failure of the airbag system and Nissan should be held accountable for it.
