5 Door problem of the 2004 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 06/26/2009

The contact owns a 2004 Nissan Quest. On 4 separate occurrences, when the consumer pressed the key fob to open the passenger door, it would malfunction and close without warning while passengers were attempting to enter the vehicle. During the 4th malfunction of the door, the consumer was standing outside the vehicle bending over the passenger car seat , when all of a sudden she heard a ball bearing fall inside the wall of the van and rolled one half inch and then the door began to close. The door hit the consumer on her left hip and advanced her pelvis to the right and continued closing until her back right upper thigh made contact with the d-ring in the door frame. The door continued to close pressing her thigh even more. The door malfunctioned again by not sensing the consumer's presence in the door jamb and automatically retracted the door. The consumer placed her left shoulder on the door and pushed as hard as she could until the door retracted in manual mode. The consumer sustained a bruise to her skin and muscle of the back OH her right upper thigh. Updated 08/11/09.

6 Door problem of the 2004 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 06/01/2008

In December of 2006 we purchased a 2004 Nissan Quest se. The first year was not entirely trouble free, the drivers seat would self adjust while driving. The dealer fixed it no charge. The in December of 07 the trans went out, again the dealer covered it at no charge, gave us a loaner and were done within a week. Except for the inconvenience of not having our van we were fine until now!!! in June of 08 we were going for a Sunday drive and the van just died in the middle of the street. Nothing would work nothing, no power anywhere. We called road side and all they could do was tow us to al piemonte Nissan in melrose park, IL. The following Monday, the dealer calls and tells us the ecu is burnt out, and has some corrosion. It's covered under warranty so no need to far right!!! a week later we finally get a loaner, ok not too bad. Two months go by and we finally have word that we have a date when the part will arrive!!!!! the part gets installed but the van runs like crap "omg you mean they actually tested it"!!!! they now are replacing a cracked distributor, god only knows how that happened!!!! the dealr does not charge us for that, but the van still runs like crap so now they have to replace three of the 6 coils and well we had to pay over $800 bucks for that. Totally not expecting that we had to charge it, putting us in the hole even deeper. You know we haven't spent alot of $ on this car but for a 4 year old car it sure has had alot of major components replaced. The the freaking dealer doesn't test the car, so we leave and the remotes, doors, sunroof, windows don't work. The center counsil is falling apart and they didn't even clean the !@#$% car. I take it back, rip the manager a new one, he gives me a loaner again and I'm back the next day to pick up my van, now they clean it. It's been a few weeks now and the van is fine but I often think what would have happened if it broke down in the middle of the interstate!!!!!.

7 Door problem of the 2007 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 06/01/2008

My 2007 Nissan Quest rear driver side sliding door is defective and not shutting properly. It is over traveling and hitting the b pillar metal on metal and now is rusting out. I do not feel it is safe and have brought it to two different Nissan dealers. They state the door is with in Nissans specifications but when I ask for the details of said specifications on the door they state there is not one. I have called 1800nissan1 and asked for a specification but they can not provide one either. I need the defective door corrected as this is a safety concern and I will not let my family ride in the vehicle until this is repaired or proven to be with in specification.

11 Door problem of the 2006 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 12/30/2007

Passenger sliding door motor died in sept. Was replaced. Last week door started sticking again and then fell off the track into the street while driving. Had to be towed and take a cab home. Dealership trying to blame it on an accident that happened before the first motor was replaced. Nissan has not gotten back to us yet. I had a 2 month old baby in the car when this happened. I do not feel safe driving this car any longer. I like Nissan, this is my 4th car from them but I believe the door was not properly reinstalled.

13 Door problem of the 2006 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 12/22/2006

The automatic side doors close with an excessive amount of force and an inadequate safety mechanism. As a grown adult they can push me over before the actually reverse directions. Today, my 18 month old son got his thumb caught in the door and it did not release. He thumb was seriously injured, but fortunately we think it is not broken. I was just shocked that a vehicle designed for family took so little consideration with regards to the operation of the doors. Thank, mike.

17 Door problem of the 2004 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 04/04/2006

2004 Nissan Quest se with a manufacture date of 03/29/04 just spent 30 total days in the dealer's shop while certified Nissan service personnel and the Nissan tech support people worked to identify the cause and correct rattling sliding doors that opened while the vehicle was operating at 45 mph without warning: doors that open and close continuously while parked until the battery is dead; and doors that once they get to full open status begin to close without warning and are unstoppable. I use three car seats in my van and doors that open while in motion are very frightening to everyone but sliding doors that shut while little people are climbing in and out with not way to stop them is more of a life safety issue. I was told my vehicle was not part of the door recall 04v186000 because it was manufactured after they corrected the problem. ??? I will update when problem is corrected.

18 Door problem of the 2004 Nissan Quest

22 Door problem of the 2004 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 01/10/2006

I wanted to notify you of the defect in the power door mechanism of the 2004 Nissan Quest sl. My VIN number is 5n1bv28u34n318003. I have taken it to porter Nissan dealership in newark, DE to be fixed on at least three different occasions since it was purchased and it still malfunctions. I have also raised concerns about the safety of this mechanism with the dealer on many occasions. I believe the defect is 2 fold. 1. Inconsistent closing: when a button is pushed to close the door, it does not always close. It goes to about 6 inches from closure and then backs open. This gets to be very frustrating. 2. More dangerous is the fact that the sensor does not work properly when the button is accidentally pushed and someone is in the way. The door proceeds to close despite an obstruction and requires tremendous force to open again. Both my husband and I have been caught in the door. Last week my husband hurt his back trying to force open the closing power door. This problem has existed since we purchased the vehicle and I believe that it is a serious safety concern. Most importantly, I am worried that it can hurt one of my children who won't be able to push it open with force. I am writing this in hopes that this gets addressed quickly. I have tried calling Nissan and their message simply says that they are too busy and to call back later.

23 Door problem of the 2004 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 11/11/2005

The power sliding doors in my Nissan Quest 2004 require a very strong force to stop them once they are activated to close. My 4-year old son got hit by it on Nov 11, 2005 and almost got stuck between the door and the door frame. I have in many occasions being hit by the doors on the way to closing and only a very strong resistance can stop them. I have talked to the dealer and they referred me to Nissan but no one has an answer on the problem other than saying that yes the force required is very large. Isn't that a very serious safety issue? shouldn't the power sliding doors, like the door of elevators, have a safety specification to ensure that they close at the slight use of force? minivans are used by many families with kids. I see that as a serious problem. Luckily no one got hurt this time.

24 Door problem of the 2004 Nissan Quest

The dealer repaired the door, but it never worked properly. Occasionally, the door would not close at all. While attempting to close the door, it would drop to the ground and received scratches and dents. She has been manually closing the door because it would not close with the remote. I went to pick up a computer/ modem. I got home and picked it up out of the back seat, the side my automatic door is on. The corner of the modem hit the little open/shut button. It crushed both my arms between the door and modem I looked like I had been hit with a baseball bat on both of them. If it had been one of my children, it could have easily broken a arm/leg, and I don't want to even think about if their head got in it some way. The dealer told me there was nothing I could do for it, except complain to you all. So I am, I love my van, but I don't let my children get in the automatic door without supervision. Nissan Quest, azure blue, 2004.
