Nissan Quest owners have reported 14 problems related to wiring (under the electrical system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Nissan Quest based on all problems reported for the Quest.
Problems with the fuel pump/system have occurred several times. On or about 1/6/2013, while driving 20 mph and coming to a light, the car turned off. The gauge showed 1/4 tank. The mechanic replaced the fuel pump and added 1 gallon of gas. Next day, the same thing happened as approaching a red light. Fuel level still at 1/4 tank. Mechanic added gas and the car started. Gas gauge is inaccurate and dangerous. In February 2013, on several occasions, after driving/parking the van, it would start and then turn off, start and then turn off. I was able to get it to run by giving it gas as soon as it started. On 3/13/2013, after driving the van and parking it, it would not start. It kept cranking, but nothing. Mechanic found electrical problem in the wiring and was able to fix it. On 3/28/2013, the car started and the fuel gauge dropped to empty with service engine light on. Van had a full tank of gas. Mechanic replaced the fuel pump and said there is an electrical problem with the fuel pump grounding. On a Nissan forum I discovered the following recall: "the recall affects 2005 - 2008 Nissan titan, armada and Infiniti qx56s as well as Nissan frontier pickups and pathfinder and xterra suvs produced between January and March 2006 and between October 2007 and January 2008. Due to a problem with a sensor inside the fuel tank, the gauges can show gas tanks a quarter full when they are in fact empty. " I think the Nissan Quest should also be recalled because this is a very serious and dangerous problem which is endemic to these cars.

On February 3, 2008 after returning home from a trip to the grocery store, I parked my car as I normally would and engaged the emergency parking brake. After going in the house, I noticed the smell of smoke coming from under my carport. When opening the door, I found my car engulfed in white smoke coming from under the hood, the vehicle and smoke had completely filled the interior of the vehicle. I immediately got my children out of the house and called 911; the fire department came and tried to investigate what was the cause of the smoke to no avail. In trying to prevent the car from possibly sparking the house it took four fireman to push my car in neutral to the outside of my carport. My interior was smoked and my carpet was charred under my seat and under my childrens car seat turns out my emergency brake cable melted along with the interior plastic, creating a spark that ignited the carpet and melted the plastic molding in my car. Mr. Sanders stated that the car was fixable however he had never seen anything like this before the fix he stated was to replace the emergency parking brake cable (two hour fix) however he could not tell us why this happened. Mr. Sanders stated that he would not replace the carpet nor get the interior cleaned that I had to deal with Nissan corporate. Melissa is now stating that Nissan is willing to fix the parking brake cable, replace the scorched carpet, detail the interior and carpet and fix the harness and pay for our rental car. Melissa could not explain to my husband the function of the harness and how it relates to the possible fire, she stated that possibly the parking brake and harness were misrouted and connected thus creating a spark that melted the cable, molding, and carpet. She stated she is not sure and could not go into it technically; she also stated that she was unable to provide us with any written documentation because it is a Nissan internal document.

On June 23,2007 my new 2007 Nissan Quest spontaneously caught fire while parked in my garage, turned off, keys not even in the ignition. The fire department was able to get the fire out but not before my Quest and my garage sustained damage. I called the dealership where I had purchased this vehicle, new, and their response was "so why are you calling us?". I then called the Nissan company who agreed to do an investigation into the cause. Their conclusion was that it started in the wiring to the tow hitch, which was on their when I purchased the vehicle and an accessory they offer on their website. They then claimed that the tow hitch was not put on in the factory and therefore it was not their problem and would not assist me any further. They did tell me that they had already spoken with the dealership where I purchased the vehicle and that they were also claiming they did not install the hitch. I explained that it was on there when I got it so someone had to install it. They again said it was not their problem. I have made numerous attempts to contact the dealership and no one will take my calls nor return my messages. So I am stuck with a burned up van, rental bills, garage repair bills and everyone pointing their finger at the other saying it is not my fault. I have insurance on the van of course and could just simply have it fixed and put it back on the road but that doesn't fix the problem of whatever did in fact start the fire (their conclusion was certainly convenient for them in that it was the one thing not installed in the factory) and so I would just be putting a potentially unsafe vehicle back on the road.
Electrical wiring: headlights and taillights. First the passenger headlight went out. Pressing on the connector would make it work. I disassembled connector/wiring and reassembled it. It has been working. Next the driver headlight went out. Pressing on the connector will make it work. While my wife was driving another driver informed her that the tail lights where out. No blown fuses, burnt wires or connectors found. Will try to correct today. In addition I filed a complaint on the radio display which went out one week after warranty. Dealer will not cover radio.

Complaint regarding 2004 Nissan Quest tow package and wiring design flaw. The consumer stated the directional lights only blinked once when a trailer was connected to an after market wiring harness. The dealer informed the consumer that they did not know the tow package needed to be ordered from the factory.
While driving through a construction site vehicle drove over an orange traffic cone. In the process, it pulled down a wire from under the vehicle, causing it to shut down. Owner contacted the manufacturer, and was told that what was being experienced was not a mechanical defect, and there was nothing they could do. The consumer believes a recall should be initiated that would provide protection for the wiring under the vehicle.
I owned a 2002 Nissan Quest with approx. 40,000 miles. On January 13, 2005, I returned to my home at 2:00am. At approximately 2:15am I heard 2 loud pops come from outside my home. When I looked outside my van was completely engulfed in flames and was completely destroyed from the fire damage. Previous service history included: check of drivers side power window for out of track problems and problems with electrical (console lights and tail lights) acting improperly which the dealership said they could not re-duplicate. Worked with autumn at Nissan north America, very rude and unhelpful. Nissan stated that I hit a large object and damaged the fuel tank however, the vehicle had never been invloved in any other incidents or accidents.

There have been several occurrences when I went to start my vehicle and the radio would not come on and the clock on the radio would not display the time. At first I thought that it was a blown fuse. I replaced the fuse but this event kept occurring over and over again. One day it was raining and the radio would not come on nor would the time be displayed on the screen and then I found out my wipers would not work either. So whenever this occurred again, I would check the wipers and find out that when the radio was not working, neither would the wipers. I would have to stop the vehicle, start and stop the engine repeatedly until the radio would come on. Once that happened, my wipers would begin working too. This is still an ongoing problem. My wife had the vehicle at the dealership for maintenance and when she left, the radio was not working so she pulled back into the dealership and stopped the vehicle, talked to the service agent. He went out and started the vehicle and the radio was working. There is definitely an electrical short somewhere in this vehicle.
While driving headlights intermittently failed. Dealership/mechanic informed the consumer that the problem was caused by the electrical wiring system. The problem had not been resolved.
(1) there were no events leading up to the failure. (2) am radio reception is terrible, high static everytime you run over a bump in the road. (3) the first dealer could not replicate the problem, the second dealer found loose ground wires for the am antennae, but had not ordered them until a determination could be made if it was under warranty.
I just wanted to state that I have identified with most of the failure problems that are listed on the complaint page. The right rear seat belt has failed, it will not pullout or retract, and no one cause this problem, it is a malfunction of the saet belt. There is a significant fuel odor in the van from time to time, no particular time noted. The sliding door does not lock and unlock properly, and it will lock by itself and stick, also it will not stay in the open position consistantly. My brake pads are going out, it may just be normal wear and tear, but they seemed to go out all of a sudden. In general it makes all kinds of whistling, grinding and bumping noises when driving.

My 1999 Nissan Quest, continues to have wiring problems that have caused the head lights and tail lights to quit operating. Each head light wiring harness has been replaced at least once and now the left head light and left brake light do not work. This has also been observed on multiple Nissan Quest and Mercury villagers on the road. I called Nissan and was told this was not a recalled item but my dealer has been repairing free of charge.

While the vehicle was parked the consumer heard the vehicles horn blowing and went to see what the problem was. Upon reaching the vehicle the consumer saw smoke coming from under the hood of the vehicle. The insurance investigator indicated that the wire within the engine loom shorted and melted other wires in the loom, which caused the smoke. On a separate occasion the 10 amp fuse blew causing the vehicles dash indicators (speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauge and temperature gauge) to stop working. The vehicle has been plagued with multiple electrical failures.
