18 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 09/09/2016

We own a 2008 Nissan Rogue. Approximately two weeks ago the airbag light began flashing while driving and the passenger airbag sensor light will show that it is off even when an adult passenger is sitting in the seat. We took this to our local Nissan dealer in which case they informed us that it would cost $1800 to repair. Upon researching this online, I found out that this is a common problem and there was a recall associated with our make, model and year vehicle. It is NHTSA recall number 08v521000 . The dealership we took the car to for repair said that our car wasn't included in this recall. I called Nissan directly and filed a case with them to see if I could get our car included in this recall since it is the exact issue described in the recall. They gave me case number 32943503. When the case officer with Nissan called me back they were unwilling to work with us on this issue stating that our VIN was not included in the recall and couldn't provide me with any information on the defective part that was recalled so that I could compare that with what is installed in my car. After looking at all of the complaints online for this exact issue, I think that this recall should be expanded to include more vehicles since the parts installed continue to be defective and this affects life safety of the passengers in these vehicles.

19 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2016

Takata recall front passenger airbag light has been saying airbag is off. This has been an intermittent problem for awhile now with it coming on and off and now it has stayed off.

20 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 08/23/2016

The contact owns a 2008 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that the passenger side air bag indicator blinked off and on continuously. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the front passenger seat cushion be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The VIN was excluded from NHTSA campaign number: 08v521000 (air bags). The approximate failure mileage was 148,000.

21 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 08/14/2016

While driving approx. 40 mph the passenger seat light came on indicating seat air bags would not engage. This occurred while a 150 lb. Person was sitting in the passenger seat. A light red indicator light also came on on the dash and it was blinking. Both of these lights have continued every time we use the car whether someone is sitting in the passenger seat or not. After seeing there was a recall on the 2008 OCS from Nissan, I took the car to our local Nissan dealer and they said our VIN number was not included in the recall. Why not, how did they determine that. The same part was used on all the 2008 Rogues as well as many other Nissans of that year. Why is NHTSA not investigating this. There are hundreds, probably more, Nissan vehicles 2008-2009 that have this very expensive problem as well as very unsafe, life threatening issue. Nissans "voluntary" recall helped them escape a full recall. They have not honored their "voluntary" recall.

While driving about 25mph the airbag light on the dashboard stated blinking and the light showing the passenger air bag is off stayed on. Failure Date: 06/12/2015

Airbag lights won't turn off. Also vehicle loses power in middle of intersection sometimes.

28 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 01/24/2015

The airbag light on dashboard came on. I have tried to reset a few times but it will not reset. Dealer wanted $130 to diagnose even though this problem occurred right after I had them fix another recall. Don't know if related or not. Dealer claims it isn't. Email reply from the consumer (sept 2, 2015): "I didn't repair it. The horn did not work but I sold the car. ".

29 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 11/26/2014

Shortly after purchasing a used 2008 Nissan Rogue the airbag light came on. From researching the matter online, it seems that many 2007-2008 Nissan vehicles were recalled for a faulty sensor in the passenger seat that cannot detect when anyone is sitting in that seat - in other words, not an issue with the airbag but with the seat sensor. However, the dealership we purchased the used vehicle from says our VIN number is not included in this recall, although our issue matches what is described in the recall and pertains to our year vehicle.

30 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 04/07/2014

Air bag light is flashing Nissan has had recall but say not my VIN but the problem is the same as the other recall.

31 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 10/25/2013

Air bag light came on, and remains on. I took the vehicle to the dealer, and they said it would cost $1,800 to repair, an indicator in the passenger seat was not working. I did ask about recalls, and they stated there were none. It seems there may have been a recall under NHTSA campaign number 08v521000. However, my VIN was not included in the recall because "the part was manufactured at a different plant". I believe as the same part is malfunctioning in the same vehicle recall, it was also manufactured incorrectly, and Nissan north America should repair it as a part of that recall.

32 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 08/29/2013

I noticed air bag light flashing in dash panel about a month ago. Had the car serviced at firestone, suggested I take it to a dealer. I also noticed the passenger seat air bag sensor says "pass airbag not on" even when I have a passenger. I did a computer search to see what the problem could be (possibly minor, take it to autozone). Unfortunately, there are quite a few Rogue owners that had the same issue, and also saw a recall (08v521000). When I phoned Nissan north America, they said my Rogue was not in the recall because it was manufactured "elsewhere". I took it to the dealer, who gave me an estimate of $1,800 to repair!!!!!!! are you kidding me??? I believe it may have been manufactured "elsewhere", but the defective part was made at the same place, and should be covered under the recall. I have owned this vehicle since I got it from the dealer at the beginning of 2009. No accidents. I'm the owner and driver. ".

33 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2013

The car was not in an accident. The airbag indicator light had come on so I took the vehicle to andy mohr Nissan in avon indiana to have it checked. The shop diagnosis was that the front passenger seat airbag sensor had malfunctioned and needed to be replaced. Evidently, the sensor is imbedded in the bottom seat cushion requiring the replacement of the cushion. Without replacement, the airbag will not engage. The estimated cost of repair was over $3,200, and the car had just fallen out of warranty by 350 miles. The cost of this seat cushion including labor is roughly one-third of the value of the vehicle. Through an internet search, I found out that there was a recall on these 2008 Rogues for this very problem. I contacted the dealership and was told that they would look into it. I later received a call informing me that although these vehicles were recalled, our VIN number did not show up in the recall. I find it hard to believe that the one problem that we have had with this car is the same as those recalled, but ours is not on the list. This puts us in a no win situation. First, it makes the vehicle dangerous. Second, we cannot afford to spend one third of the value of the car to fix this safety issue. Third, it kills the resale value of the car since we will have to make any potential buyer aware of the issue.

34 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 04/09/2013

Twice during April 2014 my 2008 Rogue was at the dealer to diagnose why passenger airbag light would not shut off. Was told by dealer that the code was in the past tense and they could not do any diagnostic testing since it was not an active code (b1018). Without doing any testing, I was told that to fix the problem they would need to replace the passenger front seat cushion ($2,500). Was told that Nissan recall 2008-10-07 did not apply to my vehicle. Filed a complaint with Nissan USA consumer affairs on 4/22/14 and requested that my vehicle be included in the recall since Nissan is aware of problems with airbags in the 2008 Nissan Rogues. Nissan refused my request and stated that airbags are secondary safefty equipmet and they would not fix the defect since seat belts are considered the primary safety feature. At this point I don't know if my airbag system is even operational since the light remains illuminated. Nissan has issued recalls on the Rogue and other models for defective airbags so I think the problem is impacting more vehicles than they realize and I don't feel I should be paying out of pocket to repair. What more can I do to get Nissan to step up and fix the problem?.
