Tl- the contact owns a 2008 Nissan rouge. The contact stated that while the wife was driving approximately 5 mph a second vehicle crash into the passenger side of the vehicle. During the crash the passenger side air bag erroneously deployed and damaged the front passenger side seat. No occupant or items were seated in the passenger seat during the incident. The driver side air bag did not deploy. The driver sustained back and lumbar injuries which required medical treatment. The cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 80,000. Jft.
My 2008 Nissan has 54000 miles on it. I had an passenger air bag light off OCS codeb1018 occupant sensor unit malfunction and looking up on it Nissan have a massive recall on this issue all the way to 2017 vehicles. Basically, if the passenger is less then 150lbs the air bag should not deploy as per Nissan but with the sensor being fail air bag will not deploy at all even in a major accident. This leaves the passenger wide open for injury. I called the Nissan customer service and it seems they are not concerned at all. They want to only treat this if the VIN is under recall and not if it's not under recall. I believe it's a liability and major safety concern. Nissan should be worried about every vehicle and not just the one they are calling. I don't understand the robotic mentality either you worry about safety or you don't. You can't have both ways. Their customer service terrible not another Nissan product and I will tell others to steer clear. Sadly if it was a vacuum cleaner I would've got new one by the manufacturer by now. It's the cost of repair Nissan trying to wing it. Entire seat need to be replaced due this concern and the cost is upward of 2000 dollars and Nissan is aware. So it's never about safety is it? (otc scanner only one code) see picture. I believe since its a safety hazard Nissan should check this code at their dealership free of charge and repair this issue free of charge. They need to own up to their on going problem up until 2017.
Supplemental air bag light is always flashing when vehicle is on. Dealer did diagnostic and said there's a problem with the passenger seat air bag sensor. The only remedy is to replace the passenger seat entirely. If the passenger seat is not replaced, the air bag may not deploy when it should.
My airbag light started flashing and when I had a passenger riding in the front seat, the airbag sensor would never go to on. This is a huge safety issue being this means the airbag will not deploy- ever- because it does not ever sense someone sitting there. There was a recall of my exact make and model but of course not my VIN#. Now, the state of hawaii will not let me pass my safety inspection- because they are very well of the safety concern of the airbag not deploying. So I take it to the dealership who tells me I have to replace the seat cushion- to the tune of over $2000! I wrote to Nissan corporate who basically told me to shut up and stop complaining. This is a joke & I am certain we will just have to wait for someone to die before Nissan is actually held responsible. Now I have a vehicle that I can no longer drive since my state has deemed it unsafe- or my other option is to pay 1/3 of what the car is worth to fix a problem that is already known & there are 100s of complaints. I hope you guys move this along because I still have to make a car payment on a car I cannot drive, pay over $2000 to replace the whole seat, or pay it off and junk the car, since I cannot sell an unsafe vehicle that won't pass a safety inspection. None of these options are exactly great for me. This is completely unfair to consumers & seems more like a way for Nissan dealerships to increase profits. I hope you move quickly on this before innocent lives are taken by a known faulty airbag sensor. Not to mention, I only have 30 days to either pay the $2000 to fix the problem or to junk my car without having to pay penalties! I'm glad my own state can seem this completely unsafe but no recall has occurred? what if I fix it- will I be reimbursed if there finally is a recall? this has put me in such a terrible place! please help!.

Air bag light started blinking out of nowhere. Didn't think much of it because my sentra did this before too, but stopped. Finally brought it in because it wasn't going off and told by mechanic that there is a short in the spiral cable that will not deploy air bag. Electrical shorts can also cause fires. Nissan is refusing to fix it because it is not a current recall and we are just past warranty now - even though it started pre-expiration. This is not an issue affected by maintenance or anything we could've done wrong. It causes a safety issue in terms of fire and air bag deployment. Additionally, I was able to see many people with the same problem on the web. Unfortunately, they are all using a trick to get the light off, not realizing the air bag will not deploy if in an accident or car can start on fire.
