3 Transfer Case problem of the 2018 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 10/21/2020

Vehicle transmission stutters and struggles to shift in higher gears. Occasionally knocks. The transfer case was faulty 3 months ago and broke/fell apart while I was driving down the highway. The vehicle almost lost control and the dealership said the transfer arm had snapped. The transmission still makes the same heavy knocking and occasionally slips as the cvt transmission hesitates to shift. The vehicle has very slow acceleration because of this and even when accelerating at a slow speed like from a stop sign the tires will jump as if the axles are moving faster or slower than the transmission is firing.

4 Transfer Case problem of the 2016 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 08/24/2020

The vehicle began to produce loud grinding noises when decelerating in August of 2020. It was diagnosed at the Nissan service center with a defective transfer case. It is now seven months later, my vehicle has been in the service center four times (in one instance, it was in the service center for 30 days) and it is not fixed, and it was worse than before. It constantly shudders and is incredibly loud now when accelerating and decelerating. Despite being under the manufacturer's warranty it is still not repaired. Nissan continuously keeps placing new transfer cases in my car without investigating the cause for the failure. This is our family vehicle we use to transport my infant daughter and I am afraid to drive her in this car due to the chance that the transmission may fail entirely.

5 Transfer Case problem of the 2016 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 06/24/2020

Took car in to dealer due to noise, corporate investigator needed to come in to review, and replaced transfer case. Upon picking car up, noise still there and upon further inspection cvt tranmission assembly replaced. Upon picking up third time, grinding noise easily hears when accelerating. All issues occurred while driving, and luckily transmission did not fail. Concern not only about transmission issue prevalent in other Nissan models including older Rogues, but dealer continuing to return vehicle when easily discernible to non-mechanic that issues have not been corrected.

6 Transfer Case problem of the 2011 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 08/17/2018

The contact owns a 2011 Nissan Rogue. While driving 45 mph, the contact heard an abnormal popping sound. In addition, the transmission experienced a hard shift and went into limp mode. The contact was unable to drive above 20 mph. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. The contact was informed that the gears in the transfer case fractured and there were metal shavings in the transmission fluid. The vehicle was not repaired. Apple Nissan (located at 1510 whiteford rd, york, PA 17402, (717) 755-9504) was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was also notified. The approximate failure mileage was 89,000.

7 Transfer Case problem of the 2017 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 01/19/2018

The factory spare tire was installed as reult of a flat lf tire. Upon driving to the car dealership on dry highway, to repair flat, the cars awd lock initiated by itself at 50 mph causing the drive system to overheat within a couple minutes. Steering felt like all wheel drive was active along with a light growling noise. Dash alarms came on indicating high temperature, stop vehicle. I stopped, awd lock indicator goes off along with high temperature alarm. Resumed driving to dealership and 1minute later the problem repated exactly the same again. Resumed driving again, problem repeats two more times resulting in 4 total stops on the interstate highway before an exit. Nissan dealer analysis states that when reaching 50 mph with spare tire in use will happen and is not defined as a valid defect or problem. I believe this creates safety hazards from stopping, change in steering handling and potential of major components failure possibly fire of overheating.

8 Transfer Case problem of the 2012 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 10/03/2017

At 49,935 miles, the transfer case and drive shaft (while driving) leaked and needed to be replaced at a cost of $1,514 + car rental for 2 days. The engine and power train are covered by Nissan's warrantee only until 5 year,50,000 miles. As I would believe that this is a Nissan design and manufacturing problem, and that other 2012 Nissan Rogue are having similar problems, I would very much appreciate if the NHTSA would investigate this to determine if a recall is warranted. Thank you.

9 Transfer Case problem of the 2008 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 03/28/2016

I was hearing & feeling a noise when accelerating and decelerating so I took my car in to the Nissan dealers service center to see what was going on. They stated that my transmission and transfer case needed to be replaced. Nissan has extended the transmission warranty to 120k miles but doesn't back the transfer case or anything else that relates to this know issue. They should be held liable for all issues concerning this matter.

10 Transfer Case problem of the 2008 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 03/01/2016

Roar and grinding noise under car believe to be transmission / transfer case or both. Drive good shifts good runs good. Believe if something locks up in this , it could cause a accident by coming apart. Checking it out found lots of other with same problem. If they know of the design problem look like they could correct or replace bad parts. Look like Nissan did not care about it or if it could cause an accidend and put out a bad design anyway. With all the complains on the web, looks like Nissan just pushing it to the back and waiting on time to go by. This has been going on for about a year and half. Just think it wrong!.

11 Transfer Case problem of the 2009 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 01/19/2015

Vehicle loses power, hesitates, and lacks acceleration, all to the point of being unsafe while driving in traffic. I often cannot make it up hills and cannot pass cars on highways I've already had the entire transmission and transfer case replaced (in January of 2015), and now require a new transmission control module. The initial transmission failure came at approximately 74,000 miles. I purchased the car with approximately 54. 5k miles on it.

12 Transfer Case problem of the 2010 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 09/05/2013

The car suddenly lost power while driving on highway route 46 in little falls, NJ during rush hour traffic. Luckily the it happened while in the right lane so my wife was able to get off the road quickly but had no forward power. The car was towed to acme Nissan in south brunswick, NJ where it was diagnosed with a failed transfer case and transmission. My wife's commute is rather far at 80+ miles round trip a day but it is almost all on highways. For a car to have a complete failure of the transmission at speed on a crowded highway wat this age/mileage out of the blue is completely unsafe.

13 Transfer Case problem of the 2009 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 03/28/2013

A high-pitched whirring sound manifested itself while driving on the highway, followed by a grinding sound, all coming from under the vehicle towards the rear end. The next day I took it to a local mechanic, who took it on a test drive. He also had another mechanic do the same. Both diagnosed it as a transfer case failure. I then took it to my local Nissan dealer. After the tech drove it and inspected the rear end, it was diagnosed as a rear differential that had failed. The car only has 74,300 miles on it and is not used for towing or any other similarly-demanding activities. At the 50,000 mile mark there was a transmission leak that another Nissan dealer had to fix under warranty, but only after I contacted Nissan USA consumer affairs. There seems to be no end to the issues with this make and model concerning the cvt transmission and related power-train components. It is past time for the government to look into the high rate of failures with these models. There is obviously a reason Nissan had to make a special extension on the power train, doubling the length and mileage limit. Unfortunately, the dealership tells me that the rear differential is not part of the power train and I must pay $2, 121 out of pocket for the necessary repairs.

14 Transfer Case problem of the 2008 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 07/17/2008

I have a 2008 Nissan Rogue (all wheel drive). It has a loud noise (grinding/clunking) sound at slow speed. I'm told by the dealer that they have another one that is doing the same and they don't have an answer. Nissan states that they are looking into it, don't know what it is, but that the vehicle is safe to drive. . . . . If they don't know what it is how can they say that it's safe to drive? to me it sounds like it's either the transmission or transfer case.

15 Transfer Case problem of the 2008 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 04/03/2008

Within 1 month of taking delivery of a 2008 Nissan Rogue sl awd, we started hearing a faint rattle that was intermittent from the front end at approx. 1000 mi. When the noise became more regular and louder, took it to Nissan to have them check it out. Tech's heard the noise on 2nd trip there, but said Nissan was aware of a problem but there was no fix as of yet and will let us know when there was a fix. Two months later, no word from the dealer, we took it to another dealer and was told there they had experienced it and replaced a transmission for another Rogue. They kept it for nearly 3 weeks and only replaced a transfer case--it turns out the transfer case only echoed the noise from the cvt/transmission. Was told by the dealer that Nissan requested them to return the car back to us with so-called added comfort that "it is safe to drive until they find a fix because there haven't been any reported failures". Noise is still there, and seems even louder than before. "rattle noise" is heard when foot is lifted off gas pedal at slow speeds below 35-40 mph. Current mileage: 6350.

16 Transfer Case problem of the 2008 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 12/11/2007

Car without warning lost drive and forward speed on highway. The vehicle was a safety concern because it could have been rear ended from car behind. Car leaked transmission fluid ( hazard material on street ) . Replaced transmission and transfer case. Axle seal was damaged at time of assembly and lost all fluid at 1200 miles. Car had bucked 3 times before.
