Nissan Rogue owners have reported 35 problems related to vehicle shudder (under the power train category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Nissan Rogue based on all problems reported for the Rogue.
Cvt transmission is failing. Vehicle is shuddering and lurched during acceleration. First incident occurring on uphill climb on interstate. Immediately had to exit interstate as the vehicles speed dropped dramatically in traffic with other vehicles present. Car manual explains that the vehicle does not need to be towed to dealership in this condition.

The vehicle is not shifting correctly on highway or city, the rpms fluctuate when hitting the gas and and speed does not match the rpms. Which getting to 60mph the car starts to shake and will down shift and which makes the vehicle harder to accelerate and in some cases wont accelerate at all even with the rpms continuing to raise. I have gotten it looked at by certified mechanics and the said they cannot tell the issue especially with no warning lights and no faulty codes. When sitting at a stand still the rpms continue to raise over 2000 even with the vehicle in park.
When the vehicle is put in drive or reverse the whole vehicle shakes tremendously and is very, very noticeable while holding the brake. Also when I turn on the ac the whole vehicle shakes.

The contact owns a 2016 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle shuddered and jerked while the gear shifter failed to shift. The contact attempted to restart the vehicle however, the vehicle continued to exhibit the same failure. The traction control warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to fox Nissan of grand rapids (4430 28th st se, grand rapids, mi 49512, (616) 942-8040) but was not diagnosed nor repaired the manufacturer was contacted and informed of the failure. The contact was referred to the local dealer however, no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 108,000.

I was turning on a road with a 50 mph speed limit and my car started shuddering and there was weak acceleration having trouble getting up to speed. I had plenty of time to make the turn but the cars weak acceleration caused my family to be in an unsafe condition, we could have been hit. Car vibrations, shuddering, weak acceleration, and a loud noise was detected in the cvt. I took my vehicle in to check the issue, and the repair shop stated I would need a new transmission because these transmissions have a history of problems causing a driver and passengers to be put at risk.

When in gear (drive, reverse, low) the car will vibrate constantly as well as at a stop not just while driving. The seats are constantly moving (vibrating, creaking while turning) when speeding up it hesitates to shift or shifts rough.
I purchase a 2016 Nissan Rogue on July 27,2019. On August 20 I took car back to dealership and stated that the car have vibration, click sound , the hood was like it was going pop up if I went more than 65mph and was like you had give a lot gas for it to go. The say they check out and nothing was wrong. One day I was driving down and had to push petal all way down and the car was still only going about 20 mph but the rpm was at like 5. Was sacred feeling took car back to dealership and they say nothing was wrong. Then on Jan 1,2020 coming down 95 southbound and my whole dash bored lights came on . I believe it was every single warning light came on. Was told that my abs was bad and it was going cost around 3800 to be replaced. My car stayed at Nissan dealership for over 2 months. Once I receive my car back still complain about the vibration and hood. Again was told since it's no check engine light there's no problem. On July 17 my check engine came on and my rpm was going up to like 5. Drop my car to Nissan to have light check out was told that there's wasn't a light on once they pull my car in shop. Again no answer. On August 8 my car was like I had push pedal all way and it was going like 25 mph and rpm was at 4 but the check engine light and airbag light came on. Took my car back to dealership and was told that it was my transmission. Now that my warranty has expired just the end of July 2020 I can receive a diagnostic if problem. But I have been experiencing this things the whole year I have had the vehicle. I see that there are know problem with these transmissions in Rogue. I see where the warranty has been extended for cvt transmission so why that doesn't apply to my vehicle?.
Tl the contact owns a 2013 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle shuddered and hesitate while accelerating with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer to be diagnosed. The mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was taken back to the same dealer a second time with the same result. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not under recall. The failure mileage was unknown.
My car started shaking while in reverse and slow to shift gears while accelerating at about 60k miles I took it into multiple Nissan dealerships and they told me there was nothing wrong with my car. I took it in again at 80k miles and they told me that I was on the way to needing a new transmission at 80k! and they had seen lots of other cars like mine but the warranty just lapsed. Now at 98k miles my check engine light came on and I had the code ran to find out it is the transmission. Another side effect is my gas mileage has dropped to about 20 miles to the gallon highway .
When driving between speeds of 30-45 mph the vehicle would shake, and the rpms were shifting erratically between 2000-4000 or more. The issue would correct when more speed was attained, but would return. When the accelerator was depressed, the vehicle would not respond immediately, however the rpms would increase drastically. When on the highway, using cruise control at 65 mph, the rpms would change drastically again. When the vehicle was in a full stop when exiting a highway the vehicle would not move when the accelerator was depressed to reenter traffic, the rpms immediately went above 6000 or more, and the vehicle shut off unexpectedly, with the check engine light illuminated. The vehicle was then placed in park, and ignition turned off, and turned back on again. The vehicle turned on without issue, no check engine light was on. Again, the vehicle did not respond immediately to the accelerator being depressed, but did begin to move. The vehicle is scheduled to be towed to the west herr Nissan in orchard park for repairs.
When moving down highway 289 northbound in frisco, texas at a speed of approximately 55 mph, the vehicle began to shudder and lose power, and eventually stopped moving while the gas pedal was engaged. For a few minutes I was stuck in the right line and the vehicle would not go into gear. I eventually turned the car off and turned it back on and the vehicle engaged the transmission. And when I started to move again the vehicle shuddered and when I got up to about 25 mph and the same issue happened a second time. And I was stalled a second time on the highway. I turned the car off and back on and was able to drive the car a few hundred yards to a turnout. This is a very dangerous problem and luckily I was able to get off the road and avoid a dangerous collision. I had to be towed a few miles to my home where the vehicle is now located.
Sitting in heavy traffic on the interstate, traffic was moving very slow (stop and go) as I depressed the gas pedal the car began to shudder and jolt. I released the gas pedal and tried again and received the same result. Once I was able to accelerate more I was able to continue. I then took my vehicle to my mechanic where he explained my transmission was going to stop working and I will need a new transmission. He had a machine that was hooked up to my vehicle showing the cvt code. I did not think to ask for a copy of the read out.
The car shakes at low speed. Transmission is bad.
Tl-the contact owns a 2013 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that while merging onto traffic on a highway suddenly the rpm's reeved up but the vehicle grinded almost to a halt. The vehicle was almost rear ended by oncoming rush hour traffic. The contact was able to pull over to the side of the road. The engine stayed running but everytime the gas pedel was pressed the rpms would again reeve up but the vehicle would slowly move along. The contact was able to slowly drive the vehicle home and had it towed to the dealer balise Nissan of west springfield 500 riverdale st, west springfield, MA 01089 (413) 746-2266. The dealer gave an estimate for the repairs of $3,400 and said the issue sounded like the cvt transmission. They will diagnose the vehicle today and call the contact back. The manufacturer had not been contacted yet. The failure mileage was 91,000. Tf.
At about 58000 miles sept 2019 I first noticed issues with acceleration and noise. I was about to go out of town and was afraid to get on the highway. I took my car to Nissan of bowie. The service representative said there were no codes activated and no recalls on the car. He gave me a list of other concerns for my car (brakes, rotors, and tires). I left the dealership and did not drive out of town as planned. My husband replaced my rotors, brakes, and tires. Still the car was shaky. Next trip out of town was in may 2020. My car stalled out while we were on the highway to visit my family in kentucky. We were an hour away from our hotel and drove extremely slow. No dealerships were open on Sunday. We took my car to coyle Nissan in southern indiana. This time the check engine light was on. They explained that the transmission was completely trashed and out of warranty. I tried to see if my insurance company would cover it. A service technician at this location told my insurance company there is nothing I could have done to damage the transmission. It goes out on its own. The cvt transmissions have had this problem for years. I called the Nissan warranty people to get support. They agreed to pay parts and not labor. While I was stranded out of town and stuck in a hotel, I had to pay 2000 dollars for labor to get back on the road and return to maryland. I filed a bbb autoline complaint and they said they only help with cars less than 3 years old. My second transmission was put in on may 14th and went out less than two weeks later on may 27th. I noticed issues this time as soon as we headed to maryland. It stalled out completely while I was on the highway again. This car is not safe. I am still making payments on this car and am on a third transmission. There was a class-action lawsuit against Nissan for the exact transmission in 2019 on other models.
The vehicle some time shakes, shudders, noisy and some more. . . It's transmission issue and that's why worried what is something happen on road during driving???.
"cvt failure" between March 2019 and may 2019 randomly stalling while traveling and when complete stop, this went on for about 1 month. Most noticeable occurrences were when the temperature warm and/or driving for an extended period of time. Vehicle then shuddered/shake when accelerating. Rpm level would fluctuate between 4k-5k rmps when attempting to accelerate. Would not shift up or downward as designed. Would randomly downshift causing a forward jerking. Most noticeable jerk/shuddering was between 40-40mph. Loss of or limited power when traveling up hill. Speed would be limited to 60 mph. On may 19, 2019 reverse would not engage unless the vehicle had not been driven for some time, enough to cool down. Neutral would not be present either. There was no differentiation between drive/low/neutral. May 20 brought to Nissan dealer they advised cvt replacement needed. May 21 and may 22 cvt did not engage, vehicle stopped proceeding while on highway. Turned vehicle off for 15 minutes. Turned on and was able to proceed. Still shuddered and jerked when shifting. Started vehicle after parking placed in drive with no movement. Turned off then on placed in drive was able to proceed. Vehicle limited to 40 mph, lost power to cvt unable to move. Stopped for 45 minutes and was able to place into drive. Drove for approximately half mile, lost power while traveling up hill and rolled backwards luckily into a driveway without being struck by other vehicles. Neutral did not exist. Vehicle towed 5/22/19. Complaints made to Nissan 5/23/19. Was advised 5/24 they would only cover 70% although there is a significant problem with their cvts.

This car is notorious for cvt transmission problems. Nissan has already extended warranties for Rogues prior to 2010, but of course mine is a newer 2012 model. On multiple occasions when attempting to accelerate, the car has basically shut off. Once, after getting off the ramp from 288 to hull street, I attempted to accelerate up a slight hill and the car just would not go to the point where I had my foot floored and nothing. I let off, was able to pull to the side of the road where it shook then shut off. I had the car towed to a local repair shop where they weren't able to find anything wrong. Just today, I was driving 65 down the highway and attempted to accelerate just to get infront of another car to prepare for the upcoming exit and mid pushing down on the gas pedal. . . It just stops going. I was luckily able to get into the right lane again and pull over to the car shakes then shuts off. I let it sit for about 15 minutes, and was able to start it back up and go without seemingly without a problem again. This is my family vehicle. I am afraid this is going to happen to me one day in major traffic and cause an incident possibly hurting me, my family or others. I have read many forums with hundreds of people having this same issue. Something really needs to be done about it from Nissan. These cars are not safe to drive, but I am basically stuck in a car loan I can't get out of. I have no choice.

The car shudders and jerks while accelerating, causing the engine to stall. It stalled on the interstate and in the city. Both themes the engine stalled, it was accelerating from a stop.
I purchased vehicle new from dealer. At approx 83,000 miles I began to experience acceleration problems. I was not able to accelerate from a stop w/ pedal fully depressed. Extremely dangerous as I was almost in a car accident because car would not move. Took it to dealer and I was informed there was a recall on the transmission. Dealer replaced transmission. Now at 115,000 miles I experienced the same type of problem, except now the car shakes when I try to accelerate. I am unable to reverse or accelerate. I called the dealer and they informed me that the warranty on the transmission expires at 90,000 even though it was a replacement transmission. Nissan needs to take responsibility and fix this!!.

While driving, the vehicle will start shuddering and rpm's will increase by 2000-3000 rpms even if there is no assistance with acceleration (foot is off gas pedal). When this happens, the car will then no longer accelerate, and will start slowing down, regardless if you at pressing the gas or not. You basically lose all control over the operating speed of the vehicle. This has happened over 10 times within the past 3 months, all while driving on the highway at posted speeds, approx. 65 mph for anywhere between 5 min to an hour + of constant rate of speed.
When driving the car would start shaking and making funny noises in the back. The car eventually would not accelerate and started smoking. Took it the dealer was informed it had a broken axle and also has coupler issue. I had the axle replaced. But it still shakes and makes noises when turns are made. I was informed by a Nissan mechanic this is a common problem in the Rogue.
2014 Nissan Rogue sv 61,868 miles with recurring acceleration issues. Started about one year ago wife called and said that vehicle was making loud revving sound but not moving or barely moving while stepping on gas. She stated car was stalling out at intersection or while in moving traffic. Not turning off but not moving while stepping on gas. She park car at work and drove home with no problem. Several months ago same thing no or poor acceleration while stepping on gas while at intersections or in moving traffic. I picked it up from work and drive home with no problem. This has occurred on several addition days but not has bad. Vehicle shakes and makes revving noises while driving. Fast forward to today wife calls says she is stuck on highway. Stated that vehicle had no acceleration and she was barley able to get it into emergency lane before it wouldn't move at all. Chassis control system error message appeared on dash display along with other lights like engine light. Vehicle was towed to Nissan dealer for inspection. Beginning to think I purchased a piece of junk. After reading several post regarding similar issue and no resolve from Nissan I am a little worried. Not only is this a dangerous safety issue but will probably be a huge expense to correct if Nissan does not help out. Vehicle is just above 60,000 powertrain warranty. Luckily I have geico mechanical breakdown insurance. Will just wait and see what happens.
The vehicle idles and vibrates constantly when the gas pedal is used. My wheel may not vibrate 10 minutes out of a half hour drive. It either barely will take off from start or it completely floors it and excels. Feels like a diesel rugged vehicle and not a smooth normal ride like any car or SUV should ride. I complained the day it was purchased and have hated it ever since.
Brought our vehicle to the dealer 6/21/16 to be serviced for failure to accelerate after coming to a stop at intersections. At first we were told it was the cvt and we'd need a new transmission. Then they replaced a valve and said it was fine. Two days later the car jerks and shudders while driving below 45 mph and violently shudders and shakes while stationary; feels like something is pushing it. Malfunction indicator light went on after this. Brought it back to the dealer and was told there is a "misfire" and that it's completely separate from the previous problem. Waiting to hear the diagnosis. Seeing many similar complaints online with most relating to the cvt. It's very scary to be in the car with my kids when it was jerking and shuddering.
I was driving my car on a highway with speed limits of 70 miles per hour as I was going up an incline my car wouldn't accelerate past the speed I was going. Once I made it over the incline I was able to accelerate again. We were then entering the exit ramp and my car just quit. My husband told me to put the car in park and start the engine- it then started up and we were able to exit the ramp, but the car had little acceleration so we turned off the air conditioning and that seemed to help. On our way back home my husband drove the car on the highway and after driving a while the car lost acceleration again. We shut off the air conditioner and then it was ok. We took the car a Nissan dealership and was told that they needed to add an aulxillary transmission cooler to the transmission so it would not overheat. Also they had to replace ransmission valve body. I had them do the repair at a cost to me if of $1,013. 00. Nissan would only pay $750. 00 to the cost. I told the rep at Nissan that we had no warning of the transmission going , no warning lights came on it just stopped. I told the this was a huge safety issue - this could of caused a major accident. I also felt that Nissan should of paid the whole cost since they had to add a device to my transmission that wasn't on there when I purchased the vehicle. At the time this happened I had 82,000 miles on my car- they said they extended the warranty to 75,000 miles for the cvt transmission . I had to take my car in again today ,Aug 2, 2016 because of the vehicle shaking when I put my air conditioning on and a rattling noise when I am in reverse and starting to go while the air conditioner is running. I am told this is a separate issue and it is going to cost me $1,200. 00 for a compressor that is failing. Another cost to me the consumer for Nissan's lack of accountability for their mechanical failures.
Vehicle started with a whining noise which eventually was followed by loss of speed/power. Acceleration after stopping was reduced to a crawl, also grinding noises and shaking and vehicle wanting to stall. I am now unable to drive as I am fearful of devastating consequences. This car was bought new and still owe $6500, and a new transmission running approx $3000 the expense does not make sense. Nissan knowingly sold vehicles to consumers to fill they're pockets putting all at risk and fail to support the defective product!.

Brought car to mechanic because car was making grinding noise. After checking, mechanic found cvt transmission failing. Car is only at 35000 miles. Not cover by warranty because I had the car pass 60 months. Apparently this is a issue with cvt transmission with previous Rogue. Warranty was extended for models up to 2010. Not 2011 model, even though is the same exact car.

My 2011 Nissan rouge started decelerating about 6 months ago when I had approx. 81,000 miles. I was driving on interstate 95 doing 70 mph when the power suddenly decreased and the car began to shake and making banging noise. Fortunately I was near a shoulder and could pull over. As days went on this occurred more and more frequently until it happened each time I attempted to drive over 40. I am now forced to take back roads wherever I go so I don't risk causing/being in an accident. The car is unsafe and I'm on borrowed time before the transmission goes completely. I can't afford to replace the transmission right now and I need to get to work. I started researching the problem and come to find that this is a known, dangerous defect by Nissan. I'm upset and extremely disappointed that the car maker hasn't recalled the affected cars and fixed them. It's only a matter of time before someone is killed.
I bought a used 2011 Nissan Rogue in October 2015. On October 28, 2015, after about 2 hours of driving down an interstate, I heard a loud noise. I looked down and saw my tachometer was revved up in the red zone (6) and the car was making a loud, frightening noise as though the engine was about to blow up. I let off the gas and the tachometer stayed at 6. Frightened, I pulled over several lanes of traffic and off the road. I turned off the engine and sat there shaking. After about 15 minutes, I turned the car back on and the noise was gone. I pulled back out onto the interstate and the car would not accelerate, which was exceedingly dangerous as there were oncoming semi's approaching at 70+ miles per hour. It slowly picked up speed and I drove 40 mph because if I went faster than that, the tachometer would jump back up into the red zone. I made it to a rest stop where I sat for a half hour with the car off. It happened again in November 2015 on the way to visit my son two hours away. This time, the check engine light came on. The code indicated the car needed a new transmission. It is still happening. The check engine light does not always come on and if it does, it turns itself off in a day or two. I commute two hours to work and back a day and with the warmer (70 plus) weather, the problem has worsened. I have to stop halfway to work and halfway back to let the car cool off. I've also noticed a "stuttering", in which the indicator on the tachometer moves rapidly back and forth around the one and a half mark and the car shakes. This goes away at higher speeds but occurs when I am inching along in stop and go traffic. I took it to a Nissan dealer yesterday (6. 8. 16). We were finally able to duplicate the problem (and got video of the transmission revving up and staying at 5 and the loud noise while losing power down to 20 mph). Warranty company refusing to pay so far.
The car suddenly began to shudder when trying to accelerate after a stop in a parking lot. This came out of nowhere. Within eight hours the problem became so pronounced that the car had a very difficult time getting into gear and moving forward after coming to a stop. The car shuddered violently trying to get up to highway speed. By the time I got it to the dealer I was informed that the transmission "was shot".
We brought our 2014 Nissan Rogue in to repair 3/23/2015 with a serious acceleration issue. The dealer is , vero us 1 Nissan/ hyundia , were we orginally bought the car. The problem is at will the car shutters and looses speed when accelerated. Nissan claims they can not re create the problem and all computer test are negitive to any problems. Today I filed a case with Nissan north americia. I was informed that there is a fuel pump campaign for all 2014 Rogues manufactured in smyrna, tenn. Between the dates of 6/11/13 to 6/7/2014. My Rogue was manufactured 3/3/2014. Nissan us 1 knows nothing of this recall. We were told the problem was fixed upon pick 3/27/2014. Unfortunately, the problem persists and represents a very significant danger to operation. It is an intermittent problem but when it occurs the car shakes violently and does not accelerate properly when the accelerator is depressed. This could cause a major accident. We live in a subdivision for which the exit requires us to cross us 1. Imagine if the car decided to fail to accelerate across us 1 and my wife and kids were struck by oncoming traffic! I have read about these issues on various Nissan sites, cvt trobles and fuel pump/ problems. It is a well documented and know problems for Nissan vehicles.
When trying to accelerate the car stalls, after a brief period (30 sec. ) of vibrating the car jerks forward. The transmission is faulty and violently shakes after driving for more than 3 miles. We are in constant fear that the car is going to die when idling and have taken it to several Nissan service centers and have been told the cvt in this model and year are all like this. It is not safe for a car to drive like this.
On numerous occasions when trying to accelerate the car will lose power to the point it almost fills as if it will shut off. Usually happens when starting off on a grade or slowing for a turn then pushing the gas pedal. The car also shudders and feels like it chugging or wobbling along, as if the road it lumpy. I have seen numerous complaints on the issue, but no recall or service bulletins have been issued. When it almost completely loses power its very scary, as it has happened while trying to merge onto the interstate. I have a young child and it has put us both in danger more than once since buying the car used in July 2013.
For a few days I had noticed a shutter in my car as it accelerated. Really since I had bought the car it had vibration problems. I was driving about 65 mph on the freeway and got on a ramp to merge onto another freeway. When I slowed to merge into traffic, I could not accelerate when pressing the gas pedal all the way to the floor. The rpm gauge went up to around 4,000 but the speed of the vehicle would not go above 15 - 20 mph. Because of this, I almost got hit by a truck that was in the distance of the stright lane that I merged into. I pulled in front of him but could not go anywhere and he was forced to make a quick swerve into another lane to avoid me. The internet is full of videos and complaints from other Nissan Rogue owners that are havin the exact same problems. My car does have a lot of mileage as I travel about 1,200 miles per week for my job as a territory manager. However, that only means that all this mileage is highway miles and has not put much pressure on the transmission. The other owners are experiencing the same issue at anywhere from 6,000 to 60,000 miles. Nissan has doubled their warranties on the cvt transmissions because of the problems that they have experienced. However, by the time I got mine to the dealership the warranty had expired. I was never notified that the warranty on the transmission had been extended by Nissan or I would have noticed that I had a problem. Now they have changed parts in the new transmissions but will not admit to their problems in the old ones or do anything to help out owners who are experiencing these problems. Somebody will be seriously injured or killed in an accident if this issue is not resolved by Nissan. How can you put this transmission in cars knowing about the problem and not issue a recall? they are a serious threat to other vehicles. Please issue a recall for 2008-2011 models. Thanks.
