My rear window just shattered without cause. I got into the vehicle this morning, closed the door and then a loud noise occurred. I looked and found that the entire back window had shattered. Very dangerous had this happened on the road!!.
My car was sitting our closed garage and came into the garage to see the rear window shattered.
Rear windshield/window spontaneously shattered and then fell apart after remote-starting in freezing (below 32?f) temperatures. I have photos. Nissan says there's nothing they can do (even with the expensive bumper to bumper warranty we paid for). If this had happened while we were driving my family could've been hurt by flying glass.

On 12/16/25 at approximately 6:30am central time, the rear back glass spontaneously shattered while driving to work. The outside temperature was below 30 degrees causing some frost build up. I turned on the rear defrost, and within a few minutes, I heard a loud pop and then a cracking, crumbling like noise and looked back to see the glass was completely shattered.
I got into my vehicle and the back windshield glass shattered when I closed my driver's side door.
Rear windshield spontaneously shattered. Car was parked in a vacant lot, with no external contact. I opened the driver side door and the window shattered. Rear defroster was used about 4 hours before on drive to work. Hatch was opened upon arrival with no issues or noticeable cracks.
Back window exploded while parked. Nothing hit the window it just exploded into thousands of pieces while parked.
I parked my 2025 Nissan Rogue in my attached garage on Thursday night. I went into the garage on Sunday evening and saw that the rear windshield had shattered. The perimeter of the windshield had pieces missing, those were on the garage floor behind the car. At this point the glass was still attached. However, I needed to retrieve an item inside the car. When I gently closed the door, a chunk of shattered glass fell in the cargo area. More fell inside today, still parked in the garage. I bought it in Feb 2025, it has around 5,000 miles. I spoke to the dealership today and explained what occurred. The response, which I will quote, “that just wouldn’t happen. ” I reported it to my insurance. I have no other vehicle and need this fixed this week so I’m paying the $500 deductible. There was no prior damage to the windshield. The car had not been driven for 3 days. I did take a video and photos.
The rear window exploded while driving down the road. It sounded like a gun went off.
At 7:20am on Dec 5, 2025, we used the remote start on our 2023 Nissan Rogue which was in our unopened garage. We heard a loud sound and walked out to find the back window shattered. It looks like it blew out by the heating element (defroster) on the window. It was roughly 10 degrees outside and maybe 40-50 degrees in our garage. We have not had this issue in the nearly 2. 5 years we have owned this vehicle.
On 12/03/2025 due to frost on my back windshield I activated the rear defrost on my 2024 Nissan Rogue, approximately 30 seconds after activating the defrost feature the rear window shattered causing a blinding effect.
Rear window shattered while parked at work for unknown reason.
Back window completely broke while in my garage overnight.
While driving down a paved rural road, with no other vehicles around the back window of the lift gate spontaneously shattered. The back window had sustained no damage and had no projectiles exiting or entering the vehicle. The weather conditions are cold and wet and the rear defroster was on at the time.
Rear window shattered spontaneously ~11/24/25. It was replaced by an approved glass company (insurance) and it again shattered spontaneously ~12/24/25 and was again replaced.
Got in my car and was buckeling my seatbelt and then a loud bang. . Sounded like a gunshot. The rear window exploded. This is a known issue with Nissan Rogue. The sound scared me. I have chest pains from being so scared. Nissan dealer can't do anything and when I called Nissan customer affairs they took information and told me there is no recall and to call my insurance company.
On Thursday November 13th, 2025, I drove to work like I do every day. When I got to work and parked, the rear windshield cracked all on its own. It was not freezing, nor were there any large temperature swings to cause this. Today (wed Nov 19th, 2025) the safelite repair man came to replace it. He stated that he sees this quite often with the Nissan Rogue. I called Nissan and they said that they never have heard of this (as I would expect them to say). I would like this investigated as there was nothing done to cause this - no rocks, etc.
My back windshield exploded while it was parked in my office’s lot. The glass completely shattered for no apparent reason. I had to drive my vehicle with glass still connected but about to fall out. I went to the dealership and shut the door, and it all fell out. I have seen hundreds of online posts with the same thing happening to other Nissan Rogues, and the dealership is saying they aren’t going to cover it and claim they have never heard of the issue. There were no warning signs that this was going to happen.
Rear hatch glass spontaneously shattered when entering the vehicle and closing the drivers door.
My car was sitting in my driveway earlier, no trees around, or no one outside. I had walked past the house door and my rear window was busted. We contacted Nissan and they said because there is not a recall, there is nothing they can do.
The rear window suddenly burst/ cracked/ shattered from the inside out.
Owner of 2025 Nissan Rogue rock creek. On 11/03/2025 3pm temperature 45-47 degrees. Car was parked and all of a sudden rear window exploded. I called the dealer and told them they said they had nothing on recalls of defect. I did make a claim with my insurance geico and did report it to Nissan also case# 55966563. Upon online research there is multiples of incidents with the sale exploding issue on various years but all same model: Rogue.
On Sunday, Nov. 2nd, 2025, about 3:50pm est, I was driving east on hwy 25, 5 miles west of near knox central high school, heading towards barbourville, ky. I was coming from kingsport, TN heading to corbin, ky to take my mother to her cancer doctors in lexington on Monday, the 3rd. I was driving 55 mph, in the left lane, the weather was foggy, gray, temp 45 degrees. It was 62 when I left home. I had just turned on both my defrosters because the windows were fogging up. At this time my rear window made an extremely loud pop and exploded! the glass went into the back area of my car. Shards were all around the opening. I was terrified and pulled off the road to the right. I got out and was shocked to see the damage! I took photos and a video. Called my husband, my mom and the ky state police to ask what to do. They said to drive on to my mom's house, back it into her open garage, cover it with plastic, and then drive her to the dr early Monday in her car, so I did. Sunday I looked up online what to do and found varying answers, but mainly it said to make detailed notes of the incident (I did), contact the manufacturer (found zero way to contact Nissan!), and report it to the ntfsa online (they are closed due to the government shutdown). Another place said to call my dealer if still under warranty, call my car insurance if it's not. It was too late by then, went to bed to try Monday. Monday: mom and I were busy with her tests and dr appts until 5:30, got some food, headed home. Got back, looked up how can a car rear window shatter while driving. It gave a few reasons, and then a list of about 5 known cars this happens to, and my Rogue is one of them! that's why I'm supposed to report it, I suppose. It is certainly dangerous, scary and shocking when it happens! started filling out this report, here we are. Tuesday: 1st I will call my car dealer. It is still under warranty. Thank god! I was completely shaken up for a good hour b4 I could drive.
Back windshield busted out completed, chase is unknown.
On October 20, 2025, at approximately 10:30 a. M. , my 2025 Nissan Rogue was parked in a public parking lot for several hours. When I started the engine, I heard a sudden loud pop, and the rear windshield immediately imploded, scattering glass both inside and outside the vehicle. There were no signs of impact, vandalism, or prior damage, and no hazards in the surrounding area. The vehicle’s climate control was set to “auto” at 70°f, and the rear defroster was not on. This appears to have been a spontaneous glass failure, similar to other reports from Rogue owners. The incident created a serious safety concern due to the sudden explosion of tempered glass, which could easily cause driver or passenger injury, distraction while operating the vehicle, or potential loss of visibility if it had occurred while driving. The rear hatch now lacks structural integrity and requires full replacement. I am filing this report to document the defect and ensure this issue is investigated further for potential manufacturing or thermal-stress flaws in the rear glass assembly.
My back window shattered for no reason. I had been driving for about 20 minutes. The ac was on my feet and not for the rear defrost. My [xxx] was in her booster seat in the back seat. We heard an explosion. I looked back to see a softball sized hole in my back window. I called lumberton Nissan and the general manager was very rude and was "mansplaining" how he is just a supplier and not responsible for windows exploding. There was no lawn or road work happening. There are no bullet holes in my vehicle. No rocks were found. The location I bought my vehicle from told me to make a claim with my insurance. I ended up just calling a mobile windshield vendor that my employer uses for their vehicles. I work for a Dodge dealership. While the repair is fixed, this has left my daughter scared to ride in my vehicle. I have joined a few facebook groups who have posted their horror stories of their back windshields exploding. This needs to be fixed! now that the window has been fixed. When you open and close my hatchback or even take a turn. You can hear glass inside of the door rolling around. The vendor was not able to take apart the door to vacuum the glass up. This will become extremely annoying and make me scared that another window broke, hearing the glass rattle around in my hatchback door. What can be done to help the consumer? as the gm at lumberton Nissan talks down to women and felt the need to explain how he is only a supplier of vehicles and does not make them, himself. Well, duh! you are a dealership, not the factory. But the idea of a recall needs to be discussed on your end. This is not safe! my front windshield is perfectly fine and no issues. Same as the four door windows. But my back window should not be exploding on a 66 degree morning when my vehicle is only set at the lowest blowing setting of 72 degrees for more than 20 minutes, on my feet. Again, the rear defrost was no longer turned on. I live in fayetteville, north carolina. I have a bunch of pics. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of info.
The car had been garaged since Thursday evening and all day Friday. Used it Saturday morning to drive 5 miles, went into my location and when I came out 2 hours later, the rear window on the liftgate was crumbled. Nothing impacted it to cause this. Just shattered on it's own. Temperature was 62 f.
While parked my rear window imploded and shattered. There was no impact, or previous damage. I opened my driver door to get in and then it crumbled.
Enterprise rental: back window shattered spontaneously. Car was not in motion, it was parked.
Got into car shut the door and the rear window spontaneously shattered.
On a cool morning (~53°f), I drove approximately 6. 4 miles each way (about 12–13 miles total) to and from school with the rear defroster on to clear condensation. After returning home and parking, I heard a loud pop and saw that the entire rear hatch window was shattered. I called my husband outside, and we documented the damage with photos and video. When I closed the door, the shattered glass collapsed inward into the cargo area, with shards also scattered across the driveway. There was no external strike point, debris, or prior damage to the glass. The breakage was spontaneous and created a safety hazard by leaving sharp tempered fragments inside the vehicle and an open rear hatch. Other 2025 Rogue owners have reported the same failure, suggesting a recurring defect.
Was sitting in my car at the dunkin’ donuts when my rear window shattered. Nothing hit the window, no one hit me the window just shattered. Dunkin donuts is looking at cameras to see what happened.
My back rear window basically shattered while it was just sitting. There was nothing that hit it. I had just driven it to. Work and had the rear defrost on while I was driving. A little while after I arrived at work the window just sounded like it exploded.
After my car being parked for 5 hours I opened my car door and before even shutting my door and starting my car my rear view windshield shattered to pieces, no forced trauma , literal shatter .
