While driving under normal conditions, I heard a sudden loud pop and the rear windshield completely shattered without any collision, debris impact, or external force. The glass failure appeared spontaneous. I have two young children and shattered glass entered the cabin, creating a serious safety hazard. I have since learned that there are multiple consumer reports of spontaneous rear hatch or rear windshield shattering in 2021–2025 Nissan Rogues. This appears to be a recurring safety defect.

At about 9:40 a. M. On January 5, 2026, the rear window shattered. The incident occurred on I-26 northbound, about 10 miles north of charleston, SC. Temperature was about 50 degrees. No road hazard. No throw rock or road debris. And we were not near any overpass. Just a loud bang and the window failed. Two holes were created and the rest of the window was completely crazed. No foreign object was found inside the car, only fragments of broken glass. Our safety was never at risk. I maintained speed and pulled into the first rest area to check the damage.
While getting in my car after work I shut the drivers door and the rear hatch glass shattered.
My wife [xxx] ) was traveling in her 2024 Nissan rouge at highway speed on her way to work on 1/5/26, in southeast alabama, no defroster on, or other car in sight. While traveling her rear windshield randomly busted into a thousand pieces. She immediately notified myself [xxx] ) and the local sheriffs office, first believing someone had shot at her car. After deputies arrived and a thorough investigation, revealed that fortunately no one had shot at the car. That it appeared to be a random flaw/defect with the back glass windshield. They also noted that that a similar incident occurred last week mid morning, with a gentleman in a same make and model rouge, as he was traveling, busted without warning. I attempted to call dealership, but they send unbothered and informed me nothing could be done due to no active recall. Upon my own investigation today, I have noted and located many instances of the same occurring in similar models, and even some class actions suits potentially in the works. Please review this with the correct persons and hopefully find some safe resolve. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Rear windshield spontaneously shattered.
On Friday, January 2, 2026, the rear windshield of the vehicle spontaneously shattered into a million pieces. The vehicle was not running. It was not moving. . . And no one touched it.
On Friday 01/02/2026 in my driveway, when closing my driver side front door of my 2026 Nissan Rogue purchased in mid-December, I suddenly heard a loud pop followed by crashing like breaking glass sound. I look around and the back rear windshield had a huge hole in the center with glass falling into the car trunk. I contacted my dealership and there were no active recalls, but searching online did fine other drivers reporting this issue on social media. I plan to have the dealership inspect the damage this week and see if it is related to other active recalls for other models.
As I was driving down the road, I heard a loud noise and the back windshield spontaneously cracked into tiny little pieces all throughout the entire back windshield. I parked and when I closed my door chunks of the back windshield fell off as well.

Rear windshield shattered for no reason. Came home from the store and heard popping from the back parked in driveway. Glass was shattering and by the time it finished entire window was gone. Did some researching and multiple Rogues have this issue. Safelite told me I was the 5th Rogue owner in 2 weeks to have this issue.
The rear window on my 2025 Nissan Rogue shattered. There was no reason for this to happen I had driven it in the morning and it was fine I went out an hour later and it was shattered. There was a slight temperature fluctuation that day in plano texas December 30th 2025. Upon researching this I found out that this had happened to other people in the same make and model.
I found that the back windshield of my 2023 Nissan Rogue, which I had parked in my garage, was chipped, and the glass shards were scattered on the ground.
While my vehicle was parked in a parking lot my back window shattered for no reason.
On christmas day 2025 around noon my 2024 Nissan Rogue was parked in the garage as always. Garage temperature was about 45 f. I opened the rear hatch and heard a crackling sound. When I closed the hatch the glass exploded into a million pieces. Clearly there must have been a manufacturer defect in the glass for this to occur. Contacted dealer, they told me that this is not a recall issue nor is it covered under warranty. However, after checking with some off-site authority, they said that since the car was so new that Nissan would make an exception and pay for the replacement of the glass. Later they said that since it had more than 36,000 miles they would not pay for it after all. However they did say that they would "split the cost" with me. I asked how much my share of that cost would be, and was told $480. This was the exact price quoted by safeco to come to my house and repair it on the spot. This a very common issue in the 2021-2024 Nissan Rogues. There is a class action suit against Nissan about this issue. At least in my situation I was parked when it exploded but had I been driving that glass flying could have been a much worse situation. I just want Nissan to own up to this and cover the repair. I also want to make others aware of this known problem.
My rear window just shattered without cause. I got into the vehicle this morning, closed the door and then a loud noise occurred. I looked and found that the entire back window had shattered. Very dangerous had this happened on the road!!.
My car was sitting our closed garage and came into the garage to see the rear window shattered.
Rear windshield/window spontaneously shattered and then fell apart after remote-starting in freezing (below 32?f) temperatures. I have photos. Nissan says there's nothing they can do (even with the expensive bumper to bumper warranty we paid for). If this had happened while we were driving my family could've been hurt by flying glass.
On 12/16/25 at approximately 6:30am central time, the rear back glass spontaneously shattered while driving to work. The outside temperature was below 30 degrees causing some frost build up. I turned on the rear defrost, and within a few minutes, I heard a loud pop and then a cracking, crumbling like noise and looked back to see the glass was completely shattered.
I got into my vehicle and the back windshield glass shattered when I closed my driver's side door.
Rear windshield spontaneously shattered. Car was parked in a vacant lot, with no external contact. I opened the driver side door and the window shattered. Rear defroster was used about 4 hours before on drive to work. Hatch was opened upon arrival with no issues or noticeable cracks.
Back window exploded while parked. Nothing hit the window it just exploded into thousands of pieces while parked.
I parked my 2025 Nissan Rogue in my attached garage on Thursday night. I went into the garage on Sunday evening and saw that the rear windshield had shattered. The perimeter of the windshield had pieces missing, those were on the garage floor behind the car. At this point the glass was still attached. However, I needed to retrieve an item inside the car. When I gently closed the door, a chunk of shattered glass fell in the cargo area. More fell inside today, still parked in the garage. I bought it in Feb 2025, it has around 5,000 miles. I spoke to the dealership today and explained what occurred. The response, which I will quote, “that just wouldn’t happen. ” I reported it to my insurance. I have no other vehicle and need this fixed this week so I’m paying the $500 deductible. There was no prior damage to the windshield. The car had not been driven for 3 days. I did take a video and photos.
The rear window exploded while driving down the road. It sounded like a gun went off.
At 7:20am on Dec 5, 2025, we used the remote start on our 2023 Nissan Rogue which was in our unopened garage. We heard a loud sound and walked out to find the back window shattered. It looks like it blew out by the heating element (defroster) on the window. It was roughly 10 degrees outside and maybe 40-50 degrees in our garage. We have not had this issue in the nearly 2. 5 years we have owned this vehicle.
On 12/03/2025 due to frost on my back windshield I activated the rear defrost on my 2024 Nissan Rogue, approximately 30 seconds after activating the defrost feature the rear window shattered causing a blinding effect.
Rear window shattered while parked at work for unknown reason.
Back window completely broke while in my garage overnight.
While driving down a paved rural road, with no other vehicles around the back window of the lift gate spontaneously shattered. The back window had sustained no damage and had no projectiles exiting or entering the vehicle. The weather conditions are cold and wet and the rear defroster was on at the time.
Rear window shattered spontaneously ~11/24/25. It was replaced by an approved glass company (insurance) and it again shattered spontaneously ~12/24/25 and was again replaced.
Got in my car and was buckeling my seatbelt and then a loud bang. . Sounded like a gunshot. The rear window exploded. This is a known issue with Nissan Rogue. The sound scared me. I have chest pains from being so scared. Nissan dealer can't do anything and when I called Nissan customer affairs they took information and told me there is no recall and to call my insurance company.
On Thursday November 13th, 2025, I drove to work like I do every day. When I got to work and parked, the rear windshield cracked all on its own. It was not freezing, nor were there any large temperature swings to cause this. Today (wed Nov 19th, 2025) the safelite repair man came to replace it. He stated that he sees this quite often with the Nissan Rogue. I called Nissan and they said that they never have heard of this (as I would expect them to say). I would like this investigated as there was nothing done to cause this - no rocks, etc.
My back windshield exploded while it was parked in my office’s lot. The glass completely shattered for no apparent reason. I had to drive my vehicle with glass still connected but about to fall out. I went to the dealership and shut the door, and it all fell out. I have seen hundreds of online posts with the same thing happening to other Nissan Rogues, and the dealership is saying they aren’t going to cover it and claim they have never heard of the issue. There were no warning signs that this was going to happen.
Rear hatch glass spontaneously shattered when entering the vehicle and closing the drivers door.
My car was sitting in my driveway earlier, no trees around, or no one outside. I had walked past the house door and my rear window was busted. We contacted Nissan and they said because there is not a recall, there is nothing they can do.
The rear window suddenly burst/ cracked/ shattered from the inside out.
