The contact owns a 2003 Nissan Sentra. While driving less than 10 mph, a loud popping noise was heard from the engine. The check engine warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel and the vehicle stalled in the middle of the road. The vehicle restarted after approximately five minutes and was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the catalytic converter was faulty. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer who confirmed that the catalytic converter was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and the failure recurred. A large number of 2003 Nissan Sentra's are under recall for bad catalytic converter. I own a 2003 Nissan Sentra who's catalytic converter is bad, but am now told my specific VIN number is not covered by the recall. This is a serious emissions issue, and my car will now not pass the emissions test for state inspection. My vehicle should be added to the recall list. My check engine light has been on since 69000 miles, proof of which can be found in service records from southern states Nissan in raleigh, north carolina. My vehicle was in their service center in Jan. Of 2006 to replace bad computer components. When my vehicle left the service center, the check engine light was still on. A diagnostic test showed the cause to be catalytic converter failure.

9 Catalytic Convertor problem of the 2003 Nissan Sentra

I bought my car in may of 2004. Since then, the interior dash lights, tail lights and various fuses have blown at least 3 times each. Lights were replaced. The dealership said there was nothing wrong that they could find, and they had replaced the fuses. The very next day, the same fuses blew again. The dealership said there were no "open recalls" on my car. It is a 2003 Nissan Sentra se-r. The catalytic converter failed at approximately 29000 miles. This actually blew my engine, which dealership relaced. The fuse problem is still persistent.

While driving, the check engine light appeared on the dashboard and remained until the vehicle was turned off. The consumer was able to drive the vehicle to the dealer for inspection, and the mechanic was not able to duplicate the problem. Other failed parts were: electronic control module, catalytic converter, electrical coil, and the crank sensor.

On December 28, 2003, my 2001 Nissan Sentra caught on fire while driving through reno nevada. Another car brought to our attention that our car was on fire. When my daughter pulled over and opened the hood, she noticed a small fire in the rear of the engine. She managed to put the fire out with water. Upon inspection at the Nissan dealership in nevada, they noted some object was caught between the catalytic converter and the car frame. The fire melted one cv boot.

Catalylic converter was defective because fuel that ran through the catalytic converter. Consumer also stated the ignition coil on #3 cylinder failed, cutting off spark plug, fuel/air continued through exhaust system, overheating catalytic convertor, also warning light activated.

14 Catalytic Convertor problem of the 2002 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 01/01/1901

2002 Nissan Sentra with engine failure due to pre-catalytic converter. Consumer states that there was a recall for this problem causing engine failure. He states that he wasn't even informed when the vehicle was being repaired for the failure. The consumer stated unburned fuel is burned in the pre-catalytic converter which is located on the exhaust manifold. When the unburned fuel was burned it caused disintegration. It was then sucked into the engine causing cylinder wall damage, which resulted in the engine burning excessive amounts of oil. The consumer stated he experienced the problem which cost him thousands of dollars.

15 Catalytic Convertor problem of the 2000 Nissan Sentra

Consumer received NHTSA recall 03v084000 concerning debris/ fire. Vehicle was taken to the dealer for recall repairs. After repairs were done vehicle was taken back to the dealer three times. The first time deale rreplaced the catalytic converter. The second time they replaced the engine, and the third time dealer replaced both, the catalytic converter and engine.
