I was driving down 114 in grapevine, TX heading toward southlake, TX. The engine stuttered and then shutdown and the check engine light came on. I coasted to the right shoulder of the highway. I noticed smoke coming out from the left side of the hood. I got out to pop the hood to see what the problem was. When I tried to lift the hood flames were shooting out. I stepped back and called 911. With in 3 minutes the car was engulfed and was a total loss. The fire department showed up and put the fire out.

Engine stops running suddently for no apparent reason, and with no warning. This may happen within seconds of starting the engine, after a few minutes, and sometimes even as much as an hour after startup. The engine runs smoothly when it runs, and there is no warning when it stops running. The check engine light is not illuminated (except immediately following startup), and my local service station cannot isolate a problem that would cause this behavior.

Nissan 2004 Sentra 1. 8s had the identical issue as the 2. 5 liter engine that has been recalled. After driving for fifteen minutes on the highway every sensor light on the dash came on and the car turned off including power steering. I was able to pull the car off to the shoulder and safely stop the car. The car did not appear to overheat and the temperature gauge was in the acceptable range so I let the car sit for two minutes and I tried to start it again before calling aaa. The car started right up and only the check engine light remained on. I have taken it to my mechanic and the code came back crank shaft position sensor. I was fortunate that I was driving late at night and not during rush hour traffic. A faulty sensor should not cause a complete shut down of the vehicle.
On June 20, 2013 I brought my 2005 Nissan Sentra into curry Nissan in yorktown hts,NY 10598 because my check engine light went on saying it was my swirl valve part # 75150 code p1138 . They charged me $110. 00 to update my engine ecu as per tech bulletin . On Nov. 20th my check engine light went on again and I brought it to the nearest service station and was once again told that it was the same code for the swirl valve and that I was to take it to Nissan. . I was lucky enough that this problem did not cause an accident but am I expected to have this happen every 5 or 6 months? please advise me if this is a recall.
I purchased a used Nissan Sentra ser spec-v, from a private party on 5/8/13. I was driving 70 mph, about 6 miles down the freeway, from where I purchased the car, when the engine died. The check engine light came on, and I was able to coast over to the shoulder and stop, while smoke flowed out from under the hood. The car was towed 25 miles to a mechanic I trust. The gears in the counter balancer assembly blew apart, clogging an oil screen, not allowing oil to the cylinders, and threw a rod. I mentioned I had heard about issues with the crank position sensors on these cars, and replaced it as well. $2428. 90, plus a $200 tow. On 5/13/13, I went to a local Nissan dealer to see if there were any recalls on my car, and was told not for my VIN numbers. I got the car back on 5/23, and have driven it less than 100 miles when on 5/26/13, going 40 mph, it suddenly died again. I cost to the side of the road and stopped. No lights came on or any signs of the problem. I tried 6-8 times to start it. I got out and opened the hood to see if anything looked funny, went back again to start it and it turned right on. The odometer is 55,571. I look on this website and see 100 other complaints of Sentras randomly shutting off. This problem is unacceptable, next time my car dies, there might not be a safe place to pull over to, or without power steering and brakes, I am likely hit someone.
When I am driving on the expressway I can't pick up speed. I can have the peddle all the way down and it will not pick up speed. It has slowed down and I have had to pull to the side of the expressway. The most recent incident was may 3rd. I took to the shop and got a code p0744. Check engine light was on. I was told that I need a new transmission.

My 2004 Nissan Sentra engine would cut off while driving at various speeds. This would cause me to almost get into a crash on the highway. Mine is a 1. 8 liter engine, and the recall was for the 2. 5 liter engine, and just as many 1. 8's have been having this problem. Had to pay $200 out of pocket to fix this. Then after I get the car fixed, the check engine light will not come off, and the mechanic says, no code is coming up for anything. I am scared to death to drive my car.
The check engine light came on and now the vehicle misses while driving and is almost impossible to start. The resulting error message is p0335 crankshaft position sensor error. There is a recall issued for 2006 Nissan Sentras and they are saying my VIN is not covered. The NHTSA action number is rq06001 NHTSA campaign id number: 07v527000 component: engine and engine cooling.
I have a 2005 Nissan senta. I was driving down the freeway and my car shut off while in drive. My check engine light came on. I was informed that my crankshaft position sensor needs to be replace. I have replaced the part twice and my car still cuts off while driving. There is a recall for this issue with Nissan and Nissan is telling my that my VIN number does not qualify for the recall. Nissan wants me to pay for a diagonistic from a Nissan dealarship and if they prove that it is defeacted then they will replace it.
A few weeks ago my car's engine started doing a stuttering thing while driving down the road or highway. It would just do it out of no where and it felt like the engine was about to shut off but it kept going. The check engine light came on after and it shows crank position sensor. I searched for this online and found this was a recall for my vehicle year, model and engine type. It stated that it could cause the engine to shut off while driving causing an accident. I took it into the dealing expecting to have this fixed under the recall but was informed that my vehicle's VIN was not on the list of affected vehicles and it would not be covered. My engine is still doing the stutter thing because I have not had it fixed yet and the manufacturer will not fix it under the recall because they say my vehicle was not affected even though it obviously was affected.
My check engine light came on in my car about the same time as we noticed a ticking noise coming from the engine. I took my car to the dealership the next morning to have it looked at. I was told I would need a new engine because oil sludge built up in my engine. They wanted $6300. I had 20k miles on my car. The warranty wouldn't cover it because I had my oil changes done by family and I didn't have the receipts for my oil filters and the oil we bought. I have checked different sources online and this seems to be a problem with 2008 Nissan Sentra's, but the warranty department denies it. I asked them if they would at least take some fault since I couldn't find receipts (even if the oil was never changed, an engine in a brand new car should not be sludged after 20k miles of it), but they would not do anything. They wouldn't discount the cost to me at all. I had to pay the full price out of pocket. I bought the engine and had it done elsewhere, because obviously Nissan is not very trustworthy. As I called around to get quotes on the cost to have an engine installed just about every mechanic I spoke with said that's crazy to need a new engine after 20k even if the oil was never changed.

The contact owns a 2003 Nissan Sentra. While driving 40 mph, the check engine light illuminated on the instrument panel. Once the contact turned off the vehicle, it did not restart until the following day. Once the vehicle was started, the contact noticed that the tachometer was not working. I was driving on a city road around 40 miles per hour. It stopped while I was driving. The engine light came on immediately, then all warning lights. It would not immediately start, had to leave in the turn lane with flashers on. We came back an hour later, and it started then. The vehicle is an 04 Sentra 1. 8 s. After reading on the internet about recalls, we called the company, and they informed us there were no recalls on our particular VIN number. But the part replaced at our shop was the crankshaft position sensor, the same part that was recalled.
Check engine light has been on for a while with erratic gauges that only work sometimes. . . . Then recently car has been shutting off, completely dying while driving sometimes at low speeds, sometimes on the highway. Sometimes will restart for me, sometimes will not. After research online, found out about recall on 03 Sentras with the exact things that my car has been doing. Called Nissan and took my car to a local dealer and they said my cars VIN number was not included in the recall, even though the same year, model and engine as the recall listed. This is so dangerous and it is happening very frequently now.
