2 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2012 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 11/01/2018

My check engine light triggered and I brought the car to my local Nissan shop. The car had been running rough, loosing power, and burning oil. The mechanic told me I needed new spark plugs and a new boot. After agreeing to pay the $500, I received a phone call from the shop. The mechanic explained that the problem was not fixed, that actually I needed to replace the entire engine. After the $500 in work had been done, the mechanic performed a compression test. The test indicated a bad engine. So the work was done on a bad engine. The car had about 100,000 miles on it and has always had proper maintenance. So why is it bad already? and why was I mislead to pay $500 on a bad engine? this is not right. Please let me know if you need more information. Thank you for your time.

Takata recall, vehicle has been burning through a lot of motor oil and the other day I noticed smoke coming out of the motor and I'm going through about 3 quarts of motor oil in one week I am afraid that the motor may catch on fire. As I was driving my family to the lake I noticed that there was smoke coming out of the engine and the engine light came on when I pull to the side of the freeway the engine died and there was a lot of smoke coming out of it when I inspected it after it was safe to inspect I noticed there was zero oil in the motor.

4 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2010 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 01/01/2018

I've been getting contacted about lemon law cases for my car - my specific year, make and model but I can't find old receipts that would help me with the cases. My airbag sign keeps going off and the engine is in horrible shape. I have to put in a "thicker" motor fuel to keep it from burning although I do my oil changes regularly. This has been going on for more than a year now. I can't remember the exact date it started happening so I put 1/1/18 as the date below.

6 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2006 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 07/03/2016

This specific 2006 Nissan Sentra se-r spec-v as well as the 2006 Nissan altima both use the same qr25de engines witch these engines are highly prone to excessive oil consumption at rapid rates. My vehicle has gotten to the point where it comsumes a qt of oil every 150 miles or so. This is extremely dangerous as it can lead to engine fires because of a failure to cool the engine while it is on. This can also produce a significantly large ploom of grey/blue smoke from the exhaust because of large amounts of oil being burned. This large cloud of exhaust almost acts as a smoke screen to drivers behind me sometimes blocking vision because it can be so large, as well as its toxic impacts on the environment. In conclusion a fire hazard coupled with a large toxic cloud is a ground to have all Nissan vehicles with the qr25de engines with the production years of 2006 and below to be recalled as it can be potentially very dangerous. The top part of the photo is proof as it was written up by a vaden Nissan dealership mechanic.

7 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2003 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 09/01/2014

Purchased 2003 Nissan Sentra with 52,000 miles around August 2013. Vehicle was having trouble starting, mechanic needed to replace catalytic converter (front & rear), about 2-3 weeks later the car started going through about 1 quart of oil every 1-2 days. Our mechanic checked the vehicle and found a recall bulletin explaining that debris from this vehicle's catalytic converter gets ingested into the engine, which causes the piston rings to wear out and also causes excessive oil consumption. If the oil is not checked and filled constantly, it may cause engine failure and/or a fire in the engine. According to our Nissan dealership, Nissan has replaced engines in these affected vehicles. When our vehicle was brought to the dealership, Nissan headquarters refused to repair our vehicle under the recall bulletin stating we are 14 months past the point that Nissan would've fixed it. This seems to be a safety issue if it is possible that the vehicle engine could cause a fire while in use.

8 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2003 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 06/03/2014

My pre cat went out so took it to shop to have it replaced. Cost me 1000$. Since then it has been burning oil very bad up to a quart a tank. And white smoke if accelerate even remotely more than gentle. Nissan said my car isn't eligible for the pre cat recall. But it fits description as far as 2003 Sentra with the 2. 5l qr25de engine. If the don't want to replace the engine I would like them to buy the car for blue book. I am only second owner. It has roughly 87500 on it now.

10 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2002 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 04/25/2008

The contact owns a 2002 Nissan Sentra. When the contact purchased the vehicle, he had the oil consumption of the fuel system inspected. The mechanic informed him that the vehicle was burning large amounts of oil, causing the piston rings to wear down. He was also informed of a recall with this identical failure, which stated that they were supposed to replace the parts as well as install a catalyst. The contact called the dealer to see if he could have this repaired under the recall, but they stated that his VIN was excluded from the recall. The failure mileage was 131,000. Updated 5/20/08 updated 05/20/08.

11 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2002 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 04/28/2007

The contact owns a 2002 Nissan Sentra se-r. The contact stated that her vehicle is experiencing pre-catalytic failure. One of the converters separated and went into the motor, causing high oil consumption and engine viruses. The current mileage is 102,000 and failure mileage was 99,000. Updated 02/01/08.

12 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2003 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 11/22/2006

The vehicle has very heavy oil consumption. The vehicle currently consumes 1qt per week. I did not notice the problem as it has progressed since 40,000 miles where it was only 2-3 quarts between changes. I have meticulously maintained the vehicle (I was trained by a master Volvo technician). He has over seen the maintaining of my vehicle since mile 1. I noticed that oil consumption was becoming an issue around 65,000 miles. Nissan recall nos. R3007, r3014, r3015, r3016, r3017. I had this recall performed somewhere between 35,000 and 50,000 miles (cannot remember when exactly, Nissan USA should have record). The catalytic converter of the vehicle was never removed - it has never been removed from the engine - there is no possible way to see internal damage without removal! the internal damage will not affect the emissions of the vehicle unless in very extreme cases! the bolts have no scaring what so ever to suggest that it was ever removed and inspected. However, the shield was removed and the dealership service department left the bolts on top of the shield loose. Many Sentras (with 2. 5l engines) owners are noticing very high oil consumption with their vehicles (I could easily find over 100 between 2 different message boards that do not cover the altima 2. 5) even with the recall done. Many have called Nissan USA and have been told they are not aware of the issue with the earlier models - Nissan has proven to be very difficult to deal with even for those who still have factory warranty on the vehicle, often blaming the defect on "neglecting the vehicle". The people who are being told this are people who have a passion for their vehicles, and maintain them with the best products they know of; and consistently look for better products to replace "good products". Please look heavily into expanding the current oil consumption recall - Nissan seems to be disregarding the safety of its buyers. If they continue to "slip by" with it, they will only continue.

13 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2006 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 05/01/2006

Nissan Sentra 2006 4 door sedan experienced excessive oil consumption. I purchased vehicle at the end of April and I spent $2000 on a gas within 4 months. Nissan company won't fix the problem and not giving me a refund. Please help me what to do?.

14 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2002 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 10/10/2005

Severe engine failure. I bought my 2002 Nissan Sentra spec-v with only 7,000 miles on it and thought I had a great car. Thank goodness I opted for the extra 100,000 extended warranty. My car's engine experienced massive oil consumption around 60,000 and I noticed the whole time I owned the car that the oil was always low each time I changed it. I used only mobil 1 full syn every 5,000 miles. The engine failed 3,000 over the standard 60k powertrain warranty. I fought with Nissan for 1 month while they kept my car until I provided oil change receipts. Once I provided them they changed the complete engine which totaled $8,500 and more than the car was worth anymore. Further for about 70,000 the car had extended crank problems and were severe in hot or extreme cold weather. The car would take 20 seconds or longer to crank over while pumping the gas. After my 3rd complaint at my 3rd Nissan dealer they finally fixed the problem and put in a new fuel pump and sensor. The car has 98,000 and 36,000 miles after the new engine. I am thinking of getting rid of it before more trouble happens beyond my 100k warranty.

15 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2003 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 06/01/2003

: the contact stated the engine burned 3/ 4 of oil in the tank every 2000 miles. The service dealer replaced two engines and changed an oil block to try to fix the issue, but the oil consumption has continued.

16 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2002 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 04/30/2003

Now at 20,800 miles I think my car may be burning oil. Lost 2 quarts in 3000 miles. Dip stick actually came up dry but no oil light. Im taking it in tomorrow to have the tranny replaced along with some O2 sensors that went bad. Also im having it checked because the trunk and drivers/front passenger door leaks. Also the e brake is failing again, there is rattling coming from the drivers door and a sqeauking noise when I release the clutch. Plus my side skirts are still warped, ill have to remind them of that. Just wanted to add this one even though I havent gotten my car to the dealer yet. Also just want to say I officially hate Nissan and their extremely poor customer service. I will never buy another Nissan and am looking into a lawyer to file a lemon law case. Just because the Sentra is the low end model car doesnt mean you have to treat the owners with less respect than those with a 350z or a murano. Im buying a Subaru after I get rid of this pos !.
