36 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2003 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 05/03/2009

The contact immediately deactivated the heating system and pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road. She inspected underneath the hood and added antifreeze coolant to the overflow reservoir. She waited until the vehicle cooled down before driving again. The contact replaced the radiator cap and thermostat. The components were replaced, but the failure recurred on separate occasions. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnostic testing and the contact requested that the water pump be replaced. The technician stated that the failure was contributed to the construction of the engine, which led to head gasket failure. The failure was common for this vehicle. The water pump and head gasket were replaced. The VIN was unknown. The failure and current mileages were 69,000.

37 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2005 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 04/21/2009

I was driving my 2005 Nissan Sentra when it started running roughly then the check engine light came on. The next day it ran fine the engine light was off. Someone told me to have the spark plugs replaced so I did that. The car was fine for about two weeks. Then the same thing started happening again and this time it was worse it was running rougher and smoke was coming out of the tailpipe and it was loud. I took it to the dealership they had it for 2 hours and told me that my head gasket had failed and they could not give me an explanation as to why that had happened. It was covered under the remaining powertrain warranty. After that I had done some research and found that this is happening to a lot of other people. The reason that I am making this complaint is that my vehicle is out of warranty August 2010 and the total cost to replace the head gasket in my vehicle is almost 2000. 00 dollars. I think Nissan should address this problem and replace what ever parts required to make sure this problem never happens again.

38 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2002 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 03/09/2009

2002 Nissan Sentra, 73000 miles. I bought the car used-- and have pumped out less than 800 miles before this problem happened to me. Basically, the car stalls out, has low acceleration before parking. Here's the kicker--- this problem happens every week. . . But not everyday. I took this car to the bfit a local car university-- who looked at the car inside and out. . . They noted that I should replace the mast air head for $600 which I did. But less than a day later-- same problem. . The car stalls out. I decided then I needed to take it to Nissan dealership. They told me the same thing. . . I need a new mast-head! I told them I have a new masthead-- and they said they will just "clear out the computer codes. " guess what? a week later the car stalled in the middle of downtown boston traffic. The beauty of the problem, the problem goes away if you turn off and turn back the machine on. I took it back to the dealership and at this point, they do not know what is wrong with it as they kept it the dealership for 1 and a half weeks. . Read more...

50 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2005 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 09/15/2007

I purchased my 2005 Nissan Sentra in December 2005. In September 2007, I began noticing that my car was overheating. In addition to my car overheating, the heat stopped working. I do not have very much money and my warranty has already expired so I had a family mechanic look at the car. I had the water-pump replaced, the radiator flushed, the heating and cooling sensor replaced, belts and hoses replaced. After having so many things done to my car, the problem was still not solved. I then decided to take it to a repair shop. The repair shop flushed out my radiator. When I picked up the car, the heat was working and it was fine. The repair shop is literally across the street from where I live. Before I got home, the car overheated and the heat went out. I took the car right back to the repair shop and the mechanic told me that I must have a head gasket problem. Ok, so I went back to the family mechanic because the repair shop wanted to charge over $1000 to replace the head gasket (which I didn't have). The family mechanic replaced the head gasket for me though he didn't see holes or cracks in the original head gasket. This still did not solve my problem. I finally decided to take my car to the Nissan service dept. They told me that I needed a radiator, I paid $560 just to have them replace the radiator. When I picked up the car, I didn't make it home before the car began to overheat again and the heat went out. I took the car back to Nissan service dept. This was five weeks ago. I still do not have my car. They are telling me that I probably need a head gasket. I gave the ok to replace the head gasket which will cost over $1500. I am still awaiting my car but am not sure that this will solve my problem.

51 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2002 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 08/22/2007

The dipstick cap on my 2002 Nissan Sentra gxe is plastic. Due to this and the normal heating and cooling of the engine, it has broken away from the dipstick and the dipstick is stuck down in the dipstick tube. To get this out and replace it, the dealerships and repair garages want $100-200+ dollars. This I have learned is a common defect among most cars of this make and model.

The technician cleaned the fuel system however, the failure recurred and the engine warning lamp illuminated. The vehicle was taken to back to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the fuel level sensor circuit and ecu were reprogram and reset to specifications. The remedy failed and the failure recurred several times. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 03v455000 (engine and engine cooling). 57 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2000 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 06/26/2004

2001 1. 8 engine in a Sentra , driven new from victory Nissan (vn) in chesapeake va, check engine light kept coming on after all the recalls were completed and returned to v. Nissan (vn). $600. 00 later and light coming on 3 times in separate trips to (vn) while trying diagnose the problem I was charged $600. 00 and I had now reached 67,000 miles with my warranty expired and light still on and off, this time it was diagnosed as an internal antifreeze leak into a cylinder, please note $600. 00 later after being towed at my expense twice, numerous sensor's and even the computer in the car, (my old computer was reinstalled by (vn), (vn) wants to make me a new bill to fix the engine properly with the mechanic explaining that the electronic diagnostic tool which cost $90 is just a starting place and they follow the codes and replace the cheapest stuff first like all my sensor's at $200 a pop, even the ones that were not bad according to the test, and after I questioned it, I was told well the "ceramic was cracked" and it was now or later! if it was just a head gasket that bill was going to be now $2,200 and victory Nissan had the nerve to tell me after $2,200. 00 that I still needed to have the head sent out to be pressure checked (optional but required) for an additional $200 to $300 and we can work out something about my $600. 00! I replaced the entire engine for $1234. 00 and Honda is calling my name! certainly unhappy with my first an only dealing's with Nissan and especially with victory Nissan. They insisted on the same mechanic working on the car and I had to wait 7 hours in the waiting room once and numerous times for 4 and 5 hours in addition while I watched the mechanics move in slow motion. Bottom line never deal with victory Nissan!.

59 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2003 Nissan Sentra

Failure Date: 03/20/2004

1) I was stopped at a red light--the frist car at the light--on a two lane divived hightway in both directions. I was in the left lane. When the light turned geren I acclelrated and the car took off like it was in overdrive. When I applied the brakes, the car did a 360 degree counter-clockwise rotation. The passenger side hit the median and deflated both the front and rear tirers. The car never stalled. I was able to wobble over to the right lane and exit the highway on to a dirt road which was the entrance to a cook county forest preserve. I ran into a steel gate which was across tthe road as the forest preserve was closed. I suspect because two of my tires were deflated, my brakes were not working. 2) actually, I was taking my car to woodfield Nissan for service when the accident occurred. When I tried to turn on the air-conditioning, the knob (which goes from blue--cool-- to red--heat--was not working. Usually the knob such turns smoothly, but this time, there was a grating sensation and the cooling system did not turn on. The heat could not be turned off and the cooling system could not be turned on. Whether this problem caused the other event is hard to say, but I favor a "cause and event" explanation. 3) there was considerable damage to my car. My insurance company authorized about $7,000 worth of damage. My car is still at woodfield Nissan body shop awaiting parts which have been on back order since about March 22. I have asked john at the body shop to make sure that he has the service department look at my original air-conditioning problem, but I don't think that will happen until the body shop is finished with the car. Incidentally, I received a a notice of a recall from fegus Nissan in early Jan. Of this year (recall code: r3022). I took my car to woodfield and was told there was "no outstanding campaigns. " I would like to know the reason for this recall.

They keep telling me that the part is on back order and that there was nothing they could do about this. I have no transportation. They also rented me a car for 5 days and they extended for an additional 5 days. After those 10 days were up I had to return the vehicle with me not having any transportation to get around. My car is still sitting there. No one has informed me of an update on the parts as to when they will be shipped. I have no transportation and its beginning to really bother. I purchased my Sentra in Dec of 2002. One week after I bought it, I had to take it in because it clunked when you turned the wheel. Took it back to dealer and front suspension was loose. Fixed the clunk. Started to notice that 2 qts of engine oil was gone and the coolant level kept dropping even though I kept pouring more in. Took it back to dealer, claimed there was air bubble in engine and to let it go. Still noticing engine oil smell and coolant level low. Dealer claims nothing is wrong. Passenger side window leaks, had run channel replaced twice. Around 7000 mi, I noticed that the tranny squeaked b/w 3rd and 4th gear. Been to dealer 4 times, claim to tighten mount bolts, belts, and exhaust manifold. Still squeaking. Rear bumper is now falling off and gear shift is starting to stick. Had rear brakes adjusted at 7500 mi and again at 11000 mi. Brakes still seam spongy and lose stopping ability. Been to dealer around 20 times since December.
