2004 Nissan Sentra shut off while stopped in drive. Second incident, and many thereafter, was while the a/c was running, the vehicle shut off while in drive and physically moving. Service engine soon light appeared and currently displays code p0335: crankshaft position sensor circuit malfunction. There is currently a recall for my 2003 Nissan Sentra for this exact situation, but not the my 2004 and I highly suggest this is reconsidered because this issue is affecting more that the my 2003.

On 6/10/11 while I was driving my 2004 Nissan Sentra 1. 8l, the service engine light came on and the car lost power. I could not go no faster than 30 mph. I pulled over and had my car towed to the local dealer. They said that the head gasket was leaking internally into the #3 cylinder and that the spark plugs were unremovable. They said that one of spark plugs were fused inside the cylinder. The spark plugs were replaced at the same dealer in April 2010. At a cost of $1002. 08 they replaced the cylinder head gasket and valve cover gasket. I could not afford the extra $800. 00 to fix the spark plug problem. There was no warning before this happened other than the service engine light coming on at the same time the car lost power. I was driving on a state highway going 55 mph when this happened. I have read on here several complaints about the head gasket problem and cars losing power. My Sentra has 128,900 miles on it when the problem occured. I keep my oil changed every 3 months and keep up with the general maintenance on my car. Since this happened all of a sudden I do believe there is a safty issuse here. If I had been in the interstate (which I would have been if this happened 20 miles later) I would not have been able to pull over or avoid an accident.
The contact owns a 2004 Nissan Sentra. While driving 65 mph, the vehicle lost power without warning. The contact pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road and restarted it after three minutes. He drove the vehicle to his residence, which was located only one mile away. He attempted to duplicate the failure, but could not. The service engine light and other lights illuminated as soon as the vehicle shut off. The dealer stated that it would cost $100 to diagnose the failure, $100 to order the part, and $240 for labor. The vehicle was taken to auto zone and the representative stated that the sensor failed. The dealer stated that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign id number 06v242000 (engine and engine cooling), although the symptoms were identical. The vehicle will have to be repaired at the contact's expense. The failure and current mileages were 61,708.
2003 Nissan Sentra, first notice the service engine soon light come on. Then, the car would feel like it was losing power while driving. Took it to the dealership, they couldn't find anything wrong with it but they said it might be the battery or alternator. So, they gave me a new alternator and a new battery. Then, short time after the car started losing power and just stalling completely. Power steering goes as well. As time goes on the occurrences are becoming more frequent. Several times that this has happened I have almost crashed into someone whether I was trying to make a turn or my car shut down and someone almost hits me. So, I looked up the recalls done on my mode, make, and year car and found that there were recall on parts that are causing the same problem for me. So, I called up Nissan and told them my VIN and problem and they said there aren't any recalls on my VIN and my VIN shouldn't be doing what the recall describes. Everytime I drive this car I fear that I'm going to hit someone or someone is going to hit me because this unknown reason as to why this car does this. I don't feel safe getting from point a to point b in my vehicle.

My 2003 Nissan Sentra died out while driving again within two weeks (12/05/08 & 12/19/08)! the problem is that my car dies out while driving -then, service engine soon light comes on & all gauges go erratic, or vice versa. These conditions come out without any warning. The first time my car died out on the road was on 03/21/2007. However, since I purchased this brand-new car in 2003, there was something wrong with the engine. It was hard to start the engine and died out, which resulted in damaging the starter. (approx. 6 times of services and possibly, a recall seemed to solve this one. ) then, another problem came up. Service engine soon light comes on more and more frequently as years go by since 2004. (approx. 8 times of repair attempts and not fixed yet as of 12/23/08) also, all the gauges suddenly go erratic (bouncing around or up& down movements) when start a car or while driving. Again, these conditions come up without any warning. Especially, in the morning when start a car, it happens more (more than once a month) than while driving. This year the oil gauge became completely inoperable and cost me $550. Recently, I sometimes notice that my car does not creep, which makes it hard to speed up. Every time these conditions come up, I take my car to the Nissan dealer. However, they are unable to find what is wrong. It has been years, and my car is getting worse even though the mileage is only 33491. Now, my car has been stuck in the dealer for days as of 12/23/08. Nissan should repurchase my car because it jeopardizes others' and my safety/life on the road.
1. The car dies out while driving -suddenly all the gauges become erratic and engine dies out. Service engine soon light comes on. Bouncing gauges occur while driving. 2. Service engine soon light comes on every 3-4 months. The car dies out while driving once a year. Bouncing gauges occur at least once a month -erratic and sporadic. Because of this ongoing problems that the dealer has never been able to fix, it gives me great emotional distress and fear of driving. It was pure luck that I did not get into accidents so far. But it is time that something has to be done to stop this ongoing unsolved problems. 3. The dealership always takes a look at it, but they are unable to find the problems for years. One time they returned my car, stating, "there is a ghost in your car. " during the last visit at the dealership, they stated it (car dies out) would come back again, and that next time it happened they would do further test. What if the "next time" gets me into a fatal accident?.
2003 Nissan Sentra spec-v. Several times the engine would stall while driving on the highway both at high speeds (starting around 50mph) and low speeds (while at full stop or low speeds), causing engine failure and steering wheel lock while driving. While driving on the highway I practically almost died trying to get over to the shoulder when the engine stalled. I researched online for possible causes, and found this website regarding the recalls for my vehicle. I dropped the car off to a Nissan dealership service dept in the morning and informed the service technician the recalls. They inspected the vehicle and informed me that the ecm had to be reprogrammed. Once they reprogrammed the ecm, they called me back and informed me that the crankshaft position sensor needed to be replaced as well, which was the possible cause of the engine failures. Once they completed all repairs, they told me that the ecm reprogramming was free of charge, but I had to pay for the crankshaft replacement because it was not VIN specific. Even with all these services performed, the service engine soon light is still on. I called Nissan consumer affairs.
My 2004 Nissan Sentra ser spec v showed the service engine soon light on August 28, 2007. A certified mechanic used a diagnostic tool to determine that the car had a malfunctioning crankshaft position sensor. Upon doing some research on the internet, I found that Nissan has issued a recall on some 2003 and 2004 Sentras and altimas with this problem. However, when I contacted my local dealership, I was informed that my car was not eligible for the recall warranty work and that the extended warranty I was given at the time of purchase does not cover this particular problem. If Nissan has acknowledged this problem and my car is having the problem, why do they refuse to fix it?.
While driving the will stop running without warning or my service engine light will come on and my car will not start. This started about 5 years ago.
While driving at about 30 mph the engine stalled without any previous warning and car was going to stop suddenly but the driver was luckily able to react in time and depress the clutch pedal and cruise to a safe spot on the side of the road. Had the vehicle been at an intersection it could have resulted in a crash. Once on the side of the road the driver restarted the vehicle after several tries upon which the service engine light came on and the tachometer was not reading the rpm. The vehicle was slowly (5 mph) driven to a safe location where further diagnosis revealed a trouble code 0335 ( crank position/circuit malfunction). Even though there was a previous recall (03v455000) for this issue the dealer refused to acknowledge it and do any repairs at no charge stating that according to the vehicles VIN# there were no open recalls on it.
Service engine light continues to turn on, after multiple service visits with multiple mis fires in the system. The vehicle will shake very hard and rapidly. There were no acceleration. While driving, the vehicle will stall on a gear with the r. P. M. Referring on high for a long period of time, also when going from brake to gas or vice versa it will stall then accelerate. All these malfunctions happening within a 6 month. Period of purchasing this vehicle brand new. Vehicle recently shut off on the highway. When brought in for service the following morning, I was told by the service department the engine motor, carburetor & throttle body all needed to be replaced. They also stated the vehicle cannot be fixed due to Nissan not having the parts. All this happening within a 6 month. Period of purchasing the vehicle.
Nissan Sentra 2001 se. Motor stopped on freeway at once, failure was crank sensor. Cost me 500 parts tow and labor, no dealer around or open. New sensor failing now I think, service engine soon light on again. Ecm problems , also front rim broke and caused the car to go in ditch, needs body repair now. Bad vibration in steering. Have tried to get this car fixed at dealer no luck also tried Nissan consumer aff. They also had no luck getting car in for safety fixes. They don't have parts and never return my calls.
Vehicle engine serviced twice and both repairs failed. (nar) the consumer had experienced ongoing problems with service engine light flashing on.
I took my car to the dealership to have the sensor replaced due to a recall. Prior to having the recall repairs done my car had no major problems except the service engine soon light would not go off (it has been on since 40k miles). Now my car stalls every time I slow down to stop. If I had an automatic transmission I would have to pull off the road to restart my car. Since I have a clutch I can pop the clutch to restart the car because I am still drifting. The dealership also tried to tell me that the service engine soon light was not on due to the recall but because the catalytic converter was not working properly. The service engine soon light no longer comes on, but my car stalls consistently. I will never buy another Nissan. I thought they were reliable cars. But after having to deal with the service department and having a service engine soon light come on soon after the warranty expired I have learned my lesson.
I purchased my 2003 Nissan Sentra gxe on June 10, 2003. Since that time, I have 7 work orders on my vehicle and that doesn't count each time I had to go to the dealership to show the problem and then made an appointment for problems with the drivers side door and window, a ding they put in the hood, not even close to sticker gas mileage and the service engine light coming on for no reason found and now there's a recall on that I haven't been notified of yet.
While I was driving down the highway the engine stopped running and the service engine warning light came on. It was very hard to steer while traveling that speed and to get acroos the traffic so I could pull off of the highway. I had to have it towed to pat peck Nissan in gulfport, mississippi. They fixed the car and said that it was the crank position sensor. I asked if there was a recall on this and they said no. After I got home I looked on your website and found that there is a recall on this for the 2001 Nissan Sentra manufactured on January 2000 through may 2001. The manufactured date on my car is April of 2001. I called Nissan and they said that my car did not qualify for the recall. I do not understand if my car is in the manufactured date why it does not qualify. This could have caused a serious accident, not only me but the other drivers around me. Please take a look at this and see if the recall was overlooked before someone is serious injured. Thanks for your time. Kevin carpenter dt.
2002 Nissan Sentra service engine soon light illuminated and the car stopped running. The consumer experienced the same problem as stated in the recall notice.
While driving, consumer stated vehicle stalled, the rpm gauge stopped working, consumer was able to travel approx 5 miles then service engine light came on and vehicle completely shut off, when consumer brought vehicle in for service, dealer informed consumer there was a recall, 01v357, consumer had not received recall notice and felt dealer took no responsibility for neglecting to inform her of recall.
