36 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/05/2011

I have a 2005 Nissan Titan with only 44000 miles on it. During recent driving it sounded as if the right rear was grinding to pieces. It continually got worse so I looked under the truck to see if there was something that was caught and dragging. It was so loud that people would stare at the truck when it passed by. After it was taken to the garage they discovered that the insides of the right rear axle were almost completely torn apart. It was very fortunate that it did not cause a serious problem while driving. They also found that the left axle was leaking and would likely also break down. The cost to repair the truck was over $1700. 00.

37 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/09/2011

Both rear axle seals leaked at 38,xxx in 9/2009 and were replaced under warranty. No issues for two years. In 8/2011 driver side is leaking again. Tried to express my concerns to Nissan and was rejected because of "warranty" issues. Seems to be an inherent problem experienced by a lot of 04-07' Titan/armada owners. TSB issued by Nissan to replace entire axle assembly 5 months after my first leak, but they don't feel it's their responsibility to notify owners who experienced the issue prior to the bulletin. Was told by a Nissan rep. That the TSB is a guideline for techs. To properly fix an issue if it arises. I had the issue but it was 5 months before they figured out how to do a "proper" fix, and according to them it doesn't apply to me unless the part or labor or drivetrain was still under warranty. Was told that if this was a widespread issue they might offer good faith credit. Curious as to how many it will take for them to not turn the blind eye to an obvious problem with what I feel is a safety issue. If there is a problem with the drive axle of a vehicle, I believe that should qualify as a safety issue or recall.

38 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2011

Nissan Titan 2005 37,000 miles rear axel seal leaks.

39 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2011

The axle seals leak intermittingly on both the driver and passenger side, rear axle. Gear oil leaks out and coats the backside of the brake/wheel assembly. This is the second incident on the driver side. The first time it was fixed under warranty at approximately 20000 miles. The passenger side axle seals were fixed under warranty at approximately 25000 miles.

40 Power Train problem

Rear axle seals leaking replaced at 55,000 and now again at 68,000.

41 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/26/2010

I purchased a use 2005 Nissan Titan 4x4 in may of 2010. In December 2010 I went to engage the front wheel drive due to driving up a road that had snow and ice. After complying with the directions in the owner's manual I began driving up the grade only to find that I had no pull from the front wheels. This almost resulted in the loss of control of the vehicle due to loss traction on the road. One time the front of the vehicle complete slide back down the hill, causing the vehicle to do a complete 180 degree turn. Days later I took the vehicle to my mechanic and found the front axle had become detached. They advised me that this was the second Titan they had seen do this and had heard that Titans had a problem detaching when driven in four wheel drive mode on dry pavement and the vehicles would make sharp turns. Luckily, my incident did not result in any crashes, however it did come close to striking fixed objects along the road.

42 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2010

I have a 2005 Nissan Titan. The rear axle is leaking all over the rear brakes causing a safety issue with the brakes. It could cause braking failure or a fire in the rear brakes. Nothing has happened yet but could potentially cause a bad accident to happen if someone owning this vehicle didn't realize that the rear axle was leaking.

43 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/28/2010

I own a 2005 Nissan Titan pickup which I purchased new. The vehicle has 57,000 miles. My driveway is steep as I live in a remote location. About two weeks ago I was headed to town. The rear end went out and my Titan slid off the roadway. The mechanic who is repairing my vehicle told me this was a very common problem with my model of vehicle. I checked on line and found many similar incidents. I contacted Nissan and found there was no recall regarding this. Repair cost is now over $2000.

44 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/17/2010

2005 Nissan Titan rear axle seal leaking at 42,000 miles. Dealer said there is a defect but not a recall. They want to replace whole axle to prevent seal leaking again. There are thousands of complaints on this issue and it is a safety issue that should be recalled.

45 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/03/2010

2004-2008 Titan; rear axle seal leaks. Mine is a 05'. Right rear wheel well is covered with oil and the inside of the tire is flooded with oil also. 55k miles and from what I understand I was lucky it lasted this long. Dealership wants $1,500+ to fix a problem that seems to be a defect not just wear and tear.

46 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/16/2010

Both rear axle seals leaking. Had a complete rear end replacement at 58,000 miles. Currently have 100,000 miles and both rear seals are leaking again. I towed a 2990 lbs trailer from michigan to west virginia, the morning after getting home I noticed the leaks and popping in rear end when pulling out. First time towing with this truck. Mileage is all highway. Commuted 120 miles per day to work. I have been on forums and seen countless others with same problem. Nissan is very aware of the problem and will not even make parts available. They are just replacing the entire rear ends. This is a common problem with these trucks and I would like to know why a recall has not been issued for it. Not sure what to do other than fix it one more time and then sue under lemon law when it happens again.

47 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2010

I had a 2005 Nissan Titan truck. The real axle seal broke and the oil came into the rear brake when I was on interstate highway from FL back to va. I had to drive so slow to make it back home and had it replace for $500. Few weeks later now I have a front drive axle seal broke and oil is leaking. I am bringing to dealer and replace today.

51 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2010

The rear end was replaced before I bought the truck and just 3 years later I had to have the left rear axle seal replaced and now im having to replace the right side axle seal. Im not too sure that its not damaged the rear end itself. I had a case number with Nissan north America but because of the time its been out of warranty they wont replace anything. There are too many people who are having the same problem with theirs for there not to be something done about it. These seals should not be going out that quick.

52 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/25/2010

Heard my brakes squeaking and started to investigate. Saw oil residue on the inside of the wheel and it was on the brakes as well. The oil was coming from the axle. The seal is bad. No accidents yet, but this could cause an accident if I needed to stop in a hurry with oil on my brakes!!!.

Loud roar from rear of truck. Once it started it got worse over a short period of time. Carried to dealer and was told rear end gear failure. Dealer replaced rear end. I called Nissan because only 10,000 out of warranty but turned down. If rear end had went out at speed this could be very dangerous. . . Nissan needs to repair these trucks!.

55 Power Train problem

4" inches of new snow. Before leaving work, I engaged 4x4 high. Pulling out from a stop light, I noticed it didn't feel like the 4x4 was working. This truck has been put in 4x4 high maybe 5 times in 80,000, always on icy roads.

I took truck to the dealer, they stated this is a common problem, dealer wanted $3500 to replace the entire rear end ! if so many trucks made by Nissan are having the same issue why have you not made them recall this item. Nissan will not replace the rear since it is over on the mileage by 12k miles even though it had to have work done to it while it was under warranty. Nothing has been to it, it sits.

67 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/08/2009

Just heard from my Nissan dealer, they said my rear axle seals are leaking. I read this could cause braking issues. This truck has 61,000 miles and the Nissan Titan's have been know to have faulty rear axle seals. Dealer wants me to replace, but seem where it is a safety concern that it shouldn't be my responsibility to replace especially at 61,000 miles. This should be a long term wear item.

68 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/30/2008
