Bearing went out in diferential.
Bought 2004 Nissan Titan with 36,000 miles. Both rear axle seals had already been replaced. Truck was making a whining noise from the rear. Dealer said rear end was bad and it was replaced under warranty. Dealer did not say what exactly was wrong with it or what caused the problem. Nissan needs a heavier rear end for this truck.
Knock noticed on take off. Intermitent. On day of failer one huge back on take off from stop sign and every stop there after, was very close to dealer ship, limp it there to get checked out. Rear end failer was the problem, complete rear end replacement by dealership under warantee. Failer at 26000 mi.
Snowfall of 12" the night before. Woke up to snow covered roads and backed my Nissan Titan out of the driveway in 2wd once out on the road the truck had no traction, so I placed it in 4 wheel drive and drove down the street 200 yard to the stop sign. Made a left hand turn and heard a loud bang from the right front of the truck. Gear oil from the front axle was all over the place and the truck was no longer drivable.
No events leading up to failure, was driving down the road heard a pop, when making a hard left turn. Went to the shop, turned in again, hard right, loud pop come from rear end. Put truck on lift in shop, drained diff fluid, gear pieces came out. Advised dealer in the morning, was told not to bring it in, they would check with Nissan to see if it would be replaced under goodwill. Was denied on 11/16/2007.

At 16,000 first axle seal leak. Then at 74000 miles second leak. First was fixed by Nissan and second leak was told could not be fixed, complete rear differential had to be replaced oil getting on brakes and rears that could possibly break easily could be a safety concern. Seems to be a common problem with some Titan trucks. This is the first rear differential I had go in 48 years of driving and attribute this to a bad designed and cost cutting by Nissan.
I saw some fluid leaking from my left rear axle, oil on the rotor. I took it to the dealer and they told me I need a whole new axle, the differential, axle, everything. It is on order and under warranty.
Had to have a new rear axle put in my 07 Nissan Titan with only 4,500 miles on it. Truck would click and pop when I would take off in forward or reverse.
Rear axle differential failure occurred at 35,000 miles. Axle assembly was replaced by dealer under warranty (happy customer). Axle assembly has now failed again at 81,000 miles. No warranty this time.
Rear axle seals leaking causing damage to parking brake assembly.
Clanking noise in rear end. Took to dealer and diagnosed as a rear end about to fail. Rear axle assembly replaced.
Rear axle failure. Clunking noise in rear axle under any type of acceleration.
At 18,047 miles I pulled my travel trailer 850 miles . After the trip the rear drive member started whining. I took it in to the dealer, that evaluated the failure and replaced the complete rear drive member, if this had locked up it could have caused a severe accident on the freeway.
2 rear end failures on 05 Nissan Titan.
I was making a turn in the 2004 Nissan Titan with off road package when I heard a clank in the rear end so I drove it home and it was getting worse. I called the dealership , and they sent a rollback to pick it up. They called the next day and said my rear end is shot and since I have 61,312 miles on the truck they said I missed warranty by 1312 miles, and I have to pay for it. What gets me is I don't even have a hitch on the back, so I have never towed anything. The dealership said they have had problems with the rear end so I think they should fix it. I will never buy another Nissan .
Rear end went out at 31,600 miles. Heard a clicking sound then it started to slip took it in to dealership in burlington wa warranty covered new axel swap out.
The rear axle of my 2005 Nissan Titan failed and was replaced by the local dealer. I do not remember the exact date. The date I gave is approximate.
(1) rear end starting making a high pitched whining noise at high speeds, a groaning at low speeds (3) dealer replaced entire rear end assembly.
Rear axle failure. Bad clicking noise.
Drivers side rear axle seal leaking on Nissan Titan 05. Leaks on brake disk and can cause brakes to not function correctly. Dealer has ordered a new axle.
No previous problems or noises before rear went bang. Dealer replaced with whole new rear housing .
Loud "clunking" sound during shifting transmission starting at about 17,000 miles on brand new purchased Nissan Titan 4x4 le. Later noticed and smelled smoke coming from left rear wheel of vehicle. Noticed on further inspection underneath excessive fluid leak from rear axle onto wheel and tires causing smoke. Truck brought to local texas dealer who performed warranty repairs at direction of Nissan na. The "entire rear axle and differential" had to be replaced. Truck was in shop for 7 days. Nissan provided rental vehicle.
Rear end failed, Nissan replaced failed rear end with same make.
The rear axle seals on the Nissan Titan years 2004-current have a severe and persistent problem with leaking. I have had my 2006 Nissan Titan in the shop once to replace the right rear axle seal at 18,000 miles and now at 20,000 miles it is leaking again. The location of the leak is what worries me. When the axle seal fails, it sprays gear oil on the brake components (rotors, calipers, pads) and I am worried that the pads will become contaminated and not work effectively when to stop my truck in case of a sudden stop.
Exited off of toll way, and came to a stop at the end of the exit. Accelerated to merge with traffic. Suddenly heard what sounded like an explosion felt bucking then the engine revved up but there was no response from the vehicle. Pulled over, stopped the vehicle and attempted to accelerate again with no response. Put vehicle into 4x4 mode and was able to drive the vehicle home. Had the vehicle towed to dealership, where they ordered and installed a new complete rear end.
Pulled up to stop sign with no previous indication of problem. When I proceeded to turn left, the rear differential started making loud clunking noises and slipped in and out of engagement. I was able to put truck in 4 wheel drive to get it to dealership. The problem has not yet been corrected as Nissan states I need a new rear differential and they are on national back order. They can give me no estimate as to when I will get my vehicle back.
1. No signs of any trouble, went to accelerate around a corner and axle exploded. 2. Failure caused complete rear axle to be replaced, loss of vehicle use and time. 3. Nissan towed to dealership replaced complete axle after waiting 2 weeks for a axle. My dealership was great! ken garff orem, utah.
Rear end failure have not been to dealer yet stuck on the side of a major freeway almost hit by several 18 wheelers because there was no shoulder.
