I was driving my 2005 Nissan Titan crew cab truck. I had heard a clicking while turning a week prior but did not here it again. A few days later when almost home I turned the corner and heard a loud clanking sound in the rear of the truck. As I got right at my street the back end started to freeze up as the tires started to lock up I parked the truck on side of road. Tried to move it after I look under the truck but it would not move. I had it towed to the local Nissan dealer where I found out that the rear differential needs to be replaced on it at a cost of $4000. 00!!!! I have looked online and seen hundreds of complaints on the same issue. Nissan is telling me that they have never seen this before. I just thank god that I was next to my house as I would have lost control / got hurt / or hurt someone else if it locked up while driving down the highway. I currently awaiting it to be fixed. Not sure what to do?.

2005 Nissan Titan le 4x4. Truck has 60,000 miles and the rear axle seal on the drivers side is leaking.
2007 Nissan Titan rear differential failed. I noticed a thunk when coming to a stop or starting up from a stop. Upon deceleration there would be a thunk thunk thunk. Tempo would increase or decrease in relation to speed. I turned a corner, felt and heard a very significant clunk/bang, felt like I rolled over a boulder, as I proceeded for another 50 yds, the thunk was hard enough to feel through the vehicle and loud enough to hear from outside the vehicle as evidenced by the stares I got as I came to a stop. Towed it to sheehy Nissan in manassas, va, they confirmed it was the rear diff and replaced it under warranty. Mileage was 42,828.

Driving home one evening the truck started making very loud noises in the rear of the vehicle. After checking it several times for obvious problems I took it to a local garage who informed me the rear differential was the problem. They advised there were metal shavings all inside the housing.

Power train:axle assembly:axle shaft:seal 2006 Nissan Titan.
At 54,000 miles the rear differential completely self destructed Nissan will do nothing.
Rear axle seal leaks, sending oil over the back plate of the brakes, wetting the brake pads & disk, causing greater stopping distances, and rear end accidents, or rear end failure, causing an accident or roll over. This is not a new problem, since the truck has been on the market there has been seal problems with the axel and still nothing has been done, does it take a death of someone to solve this problem, no just a recall and better design.

Bought a used 2007 Nissan Titan 4d 4x4 on 21 June 2011. After driving it for a day, noticed fluid leak around brake and wheel area next to axle on rear driver's side. Took to Nissan dealership who said that it was the axle seal, and both actually needed to be replaced. Have never used vehicle in 4x4 or to tow. Very concerned due to the possibility of the differential locking up at high speeds or towing something and causing an accident. It leaking on the breaks is also has my concern. Hope this can be fixed by Nissan.
I have a 2006 Nissan Titan. I was on vacation with my wife and granddaughter this past week when I noticed the braking on my truck felt wrong. It took much further to stop than it should. It could have caused an accident. I pulled over to a rest area and noticed a burning smell coming from the rear of the vehicle. I checked the fluids and everything looked ok. I went to a garage to have it looked at. The mechanic showed me where the rear axle seals were leaking differential fluid into the brake drums on both rear wheels and spinning fluid into the wheels. They told me I need to get it over to the Nissan dealer to have them look at it. I called Nissan and they told me this is a common issue with Titans. They consider it safe. But they tell me I need to get it fixed right away. The rear brakes have differential fluid leaking into them. Which means I may even have to replace the rear brakes because they are being damaged! they also told me the rear axle could lock up causing more danger and damage. They admit this is a common issue but they will not let the owners know in writing. That is probably because they would rather the owner encure the huge expense of repairing this issue after their warranty has expired. They will not consider this a recall. I will have to spend $3000 to replace the rear axle. I am furious and disapointed that Nissan will not issue a recall on this. While researching this online I see hundreds of post. Why is this not being addressed? it hasn't even been five years yet since I purchased the vehicle. I am only at 85,000 miles. Nissan should be ashamed of their pathetic response and refusal to fix this issue at their expense. This is a saftey issue Nissan! I will never buy a Nissan again if they don't resolve this issue at their expense.
2006 Nissan Titan axle seal failure. This will be the second axle seal replaced and the second time the pinion seal has been replaced on a truck with only 73000 miles. The cost is prohibitive and the failure causes grease to drip on the rear brakes.
Rear axle is leakin oil from it. Its getting the rear brakes wet, with the oil is making it harder to stop. I first noticed this the other day when I went through a red light because I could not stop. My Nissan Titan is a 2006 xe. 74500 miles. I have only towed a trailer with the truck a hand full of times and never exceded 5000 lbs of trailer weight which includes the weight of the trailer. There is also a tow package installed in the truck. I am currently looking in to parts and prices of repairing this leak. If this could cause brakes to fail how come this isnt a recall? and if it does become a recall will they also cover any paint damage that may occure from the oils on the tail gate?.
Rear axle seal failure.
Truck taken to Nissan for recall and other problems real pinion seal leaking, front differential seal leaking, front differential u joint failed, creating extreme vibration at 45mph, 2 power steering hoses leaking creating difficulting controling truck while turning, truck is a 2005 with 45,000 miles, front diff seal and u joint replaced by dealer, $170, I replaced power steering hoses cost 160 for parts, pinion seal not repaired, dealer wanted $200.
Rear axle pops and grinds following a turn of the vehicle. 2005 Nissan Titan w/76k miles. Rear end locks up intermittently.
Rear axle seal leaking. Replaced at 30k miles under warranty leaking again at 67k no warranty coverage 2k repair.
Left axle seal leak on 2004 Nissan Titan, seal replaced at 63,000 miles. At 65,000 mile now rear differential is bad, needs replacement at a cost of $2800.
2005 Nissan Titan ext cab se that the left rear end seal is leaking. I have been told that my warranty is out and I would have to pay 1500 dollars or more to replace the seal.
I'm the original owner of a 2005 Nissan Titan 4x4 with 75k miles. I've taken it to the dealership for every recommended service and on 3/31/2011 I noticed a clunking in the rearend while making sharp turns. I took it into the dealer and he told me that it would cost over $2700 to replace the rear differential. He had found metal chunks in the differential fluid. I baby my truck, I don't tow and I don't 4x4. I cannot accept the fact that this should be my responsibility to pay for. This is quite clearly a factory defect. I've owned, chevy and Dodge pickups and never once had a rearend problem. I contacted Nissan USA was and explained my story. The dealership then told me they had spoken with Nissan USA and they were leaving me with a $1500 bill to pay. I expressed my extreme disappointment with their decision. I then called consumer affairs at Nissan to tell them why they'd be losing my business. She then called me back to tell me that there had been a misunderstanding and that I was to cover the dealership labor costs of $353. I accepted her offer. About an hour later, I received another call from that same lady's supervisor claiming that the first lady misinformed me and that I owed $1500. I was shocked and disgusted at the same time. I spoke with this "supervisor" for a while trying to reason with her, but it was futile. She wasn't interested in what I was saying. I asked to speak with her supervisor, but she insisted she was the top decision maker. She said she had no supervisor, so I asked her if she was the president of the company to which she replied no. Based on this interaction and lack of care for the customer. I will never place my trust or dollars in Nissan again. I will also tell everyone I know to stay away from this company.
Rear axle seal needs to be replaced. This is an systemic problem with the Nissan Titan and Nissan will not fix it. Nissan has a service bulletin on this.
I just purchased my Titan a little over a month ago. I noticed about two weeks after the purchase a "pop" sound when turning. This sound was heard maybe once everyother day. Day before yesterday I was turning from a stop sign when the truck popped, this time extremly loud and a shutter was felt. I thought someone had hit me. I then made the next turn aprox. 1/2 mile down the road to the gas station. Once more the truck popped when turning. I stopped and got out to look under the rear end to see if I could spot and damage from the area the noise was coming from. Nothing was visible. I then secured my son in the truck so we could try to go home. I thought to myself, im going to make a circle around the parking lot before getting out on the highway. I put the truck in gear and had made it about 20 ft when I felt and heard the rear tires lock then release twice. I quickly parked, popping 2 or3 time while turning to make the parking space. I then called for a tow truck. After waiting 21/2hrs I had the truck towed to the nearest Nissan dealership. The next day I contacted the dealership to follow up on the problems I was having. I was told that I was receive a call before any repares were done. Aprom. 3hrs later I received a call stating that the rear diffrential had gone out and would need to be replaced. I was then informed that this was a oem part and that the whole assembly had to be purchased. The individual parts were not avalible due to the truck being newer. Total cost for parts and labor 3,700 dollars plus tax. Then to make matters worse I found out that the parts had to be shipped in. With the weekend in the near future I was told that it could take a week to get the parts and have to truck up and going. I am currently getting a second opinion. Did I mention that I havent even made the first payment on this truck?!! thought I would be safe buying a truck with only 68000 miles on it.
I have a 2005 Nissan Titan off road package. I bought it with 55,000 miles on it. At purchase, I bought a 3rd party extended warranty(cna) that covers up to 100,000 miles or 3 years which ever comes first. My truck hit 75,422 miles and I noticed that it made a click noise once in a while when I made a left turn. Made an appointment with my mechanic and found out that the rear differential blew. I contacted the dealership which I bought it from. I was told that they had no dealings with Nissan brand and I would have to have it towed to a Nissan dealership to get it evaluted. I had it towed to a Nissan dealership. They contacted the 3rd party warranty CO. And was told that it will not be covered, because I had no paperwork that the truck was serviced at 50,000 miles for the differential. Nissan told me that they and the warranty company couldn't do anything for me and if wanted to get the truck fixed, I would have to cough up 4,000 dollars to replace the whole rear axle. Being so feed up with them, I decided to give this job to my mechanic which he projected to only cost 2,100 dollars. I have always been a loyal Nissan customer, but Nissan really looks out for their best interest and not their customer. Once my truck is fixed, I will be trading it in for a chevy silverado 1500.
Front differnetial failed while driving 30mph and engaging on-the-fly 4x4. No 4x4 and hazard to drive on highway.
2004 Nissan Titan, both rear axle seals leaking. Oil leaks out very fast and must refill constantintly. Oil also leaks on and into the wheel and breaks.
Rear differential failure at 37,350 miles on a 2005 Nissan Titan. Front differential failed at 37,000 miles.
I have a 2004 Nissan Titan. My rear axel seals are leaking. This truck only has 85k, as of 6/10/11. I rarely pull trailers, or any heavy load. This is my daily driver. I do mostly city driving. I noticed there was a problem when my brakes started acting up. Ex. I was driving near my house when, I pressed my brakes and it almost went to the floor. It also kicked in the abs, when I was only doing about 10mph. The emergency brake light came on flashing. Every time I pressed the brake(only two times) it did this. I pulled over and turned the truck off. Got out looked around and did not see anything wrong. I got back in the truck and drove straight home. It did not do this again until about 15k miles later. I then took it straight to Nissan and they told me this was the problem. They told me only one was bad. About a week later I put the truck on a lift myself. I noticed both were leaking! I dont understand why this would happen unless it was a manufacturing default. There is never a hard strain on my drivetrain. It is 2wd and my work truck in the city. I have also read on the forums that this is a known problem. My radiator also busted last week. Up till now I have never had any problem with this truck.
While driving in slick conditions I placed my 2004 Titan in 4 hi, didn't notice any improvement in traction, slip indicator continued to light on acceleration. 4 hi indicator showed engagement but the truck was not engaging in either 4 hi or 4 lo. Took the truck to an auto repair shop. The "c" clips on the shaft had failed and allowed the shafts to come out of the splines. Due to that the shafts not being in place they ovaled the sockets, the differential oil leaked out, the bearings went out which in turn cased both the front differential and the transfer case to fail. I got the truck repaired, replaced both the transfer case and front differential, at the cost of $2500. A week later it snowed almost 12 inches. Engaged 4 hi while leaving the drive way, drove approximately 4 miles and the truck lost 4 hi again and was making a grinding noise I put the truck back into 2 hi noise stopped. Took it back to the shop and the shaft has come out again, even though this was a new front differential and was told that there is no fix for this problem. It happens and will continue to happen when ever 4 wheel drive is used or is to be engaged.
Left rear axle seal is leaking, at 85436 miles.
Catastrophic failure of rear differential ring and pinion causing the vehicle to be immediatly undrivable.
1. Noticed "4 wheel low" indicator light was on even though never engaged, abs indicator light on and a loud "clunk" emanating from the rear axle. Truck began to pull to one side. 2. Rear axle gears destroyed, rear ebrake "shoes" and all associated parts destroyed. 3. Dealer wanting to replace entire braking assembly, rear axle assembly at customer expense. Customer is below the man. Warranty dictated miles/months. Dealer does not want to cover it under the manufacturers warranty and a platinum warranty from "the mechanic" aka "the warranty group".
2004 Nissan Titan: pulling away from a stop sign a loud bang was heard and forward motion ceased. Once able to get back underway loud banging was heard. Vehicle lurched badly around corners. Towed to dealer. Inspection found rear differential had failed requiring replacement. Repair was estimated at 3771. 00 + tax. Vehicle had 131k miles. Vehicle was traded in on purchase of new vehicle at a discounted value of 4000. 00 due to repairs required.
Left front axle shaft pulls out of front differential causing 4 wheel drive to fail. The left front axle shaft snapped at retaining clip. Part failed while driving in very snowy conditions. I use 4x4 for driving in snowy conditions only.
Took my 2004 Nissan Titan into dealer for oil change and they informed me that the rear left axel was leaking. The truck has 107. 000 miles.
When my 2004 Nissan Titan le 4x4 pickup (66420 miles) failed at attempting to climb the hill to my house, I discovered that although 4wd was selected, it was apparently not engaged. Upon investigation it was discovered that the driver's side half axle came out of the front differential. Upon research I discovered this is apparently a recurring problem with Nissan Titan 4x4s. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who repaired the problem by re-inserting the half shaft into the front differential.
