2 Power Train problem of the 2023 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 10/29/2025

23000 miles on truck, hard down and up shifting at slower speeds causing lurching when stopping and starting, often when trying to merge into traffic or stop for traffic signals or pedestrians, also at times will not go through the whole range of gears when trying to get up to highway speed to run with the traffic flow. ( 9 speed transmission).

3 Power Train problem of the 2018 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 08/22/2025

Transmission failed while driving. Placing my family and others in an unsafe predicament. This seems to be a common problem with Nissan transmission. A quick search on the internet show almost all cvt models do this from this company. How is there only a partial recall on some models?.

4 Power Train problem of the 2022 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 08/04/2025

I have noticed this problem a few times, specifically in highway traffic. When getting back up to speed, I have noticed my 2022 Nissan Titan suddenly jerk as I am accelerating back up to the posted speed limit. This has happened a few times. First time I did not pay it to much consideration, but now it's something that worries me. I have also noticed my automatic cruise control is having issues staying on when activated. I turn it on, but when I go to set the vehicle speed, I will sometimes get a malfunction warning. I love using the automatic cruise control for its safety and to set the speed limit when I drive.

5 Power Train problem of the 2020 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 06/18/2025

After replacing the truck frame and one day after returning the truck to me the transmission slipped out of gear while driving 75mph on the freeway. While attempting to brake the transmission seemed to lock up. When I slowed the truck down enough I hit the brakes and shifted the transmission into park. By doing this I was able to stop before hitting other vehicles and a guard rail. Nissan replaced the transmission. After several test drives they replaced the second transmission because of shifting problems. The current transmission just recently would not shift into second gear. I’ll be taking it back Monday. In short my transmission has been replaced twice in a months time and is going back to the dealership for additional repairs.

6 Power Train problem of the 2024 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 05/24/2025

Transmission. When coming to a stop the truck lurches forward from a hard downshift that can potentially cause a rear end collision. I have taken to two Nissan dealerships (marietta, GA and roswell, GA) and both claimed they could not replicate this issue. I am not sure when the problem started as the salesman drove it from carrollton, GA to marietta for me to purchase. The first time it happened to me was at 150 miles. The truck is currently at 4,500 miles and continues to shift incorrectly. There are no warning lights and the dealership refuses to spend any time solving the problem. I took the service manager for a drive and he confirmed that there is an issue and said he would open a service ticket. Three weeks later he said the mechanic cannot duplicate the problem and says the truck drives normally.

7 Power Train problem of the 2019 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 04/26/2025

Vehicle has a fluttering or lagging feel/sound when accelerating, often taking longer to accelerate than it should. When merging on to a highway, this has become a danger to myself and others. This problem has been confirmed by Nissan in tens of thousands of Nissan Titans. More recently, my truck (only 47,000 miles) shifts into reverse but will not actually go into reverse, which is pointing to a transmission problem.

8 Power Train problem of the 2017 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 04/19/2025

Truck was fine and then went to pull out in traffic and it would not shift past 3rd gear, was dangerous because traffic was moving quickly and no lights appeared on the dash but the transmission just stopped shifting past 3rd. Had to limp it back off the road which was scary because people were traveling at higher speeds than we were able to even though just 2 minutes prior we had come from that same road and we were traveling just fine. Was told by dealer that the valve body went out and is costing $3400 to replace, no metal shavings found inside the transmission but this incident almost caused a wreck and is costing a serious fortune. Seems to be a serious and common issue from the research I’ve done, unfortunately it’s something that’s just becoming known because I would have never bought it expecting danger and expenses like these.

9 Power Train problem of the 2017 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 04/04/2025

Car went into limp mode on the highway and would not exceed 40 mph where the speeds were around 70 putting me at risk with a code of p0720 which usually points to a valve body or transmission.

10 Power Train problem of the 2018 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 04/03/2025

Component turbocharger, power train safety vehicle would not restart so was stranded on highway unknown if others have had similar issues components have not been examined at this time but are available warnings, 1st check engine, 2nd power reduced, 3rd engine was dead going uphill on the interstate, the check engine light came on. I then observed the turbo boost climbing to 30 psi, dark smoke coming out of the exhaust, and white smoke. I was attempting to pull over while this happened. When I got to the shoulder of the road , the vehicle was disabled, and coolant was pouring out of the overflow onto the ground. The vehicle needed to be towed to great falls, where it is awaiting repair. Vehicle is still not running at this time.

11 Power Train problem of the 2007 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 04/01/2025

I have a defective exhaust manifold that’s letting gases in the cab.

12 Power Train problem of the 2017 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 03/08/2025

Purchased a used 2017 Nissan Titan xd pro-4x 5. 0l diesel on 3/8/25. Left the dealership and only made it ~10 miles down the road before the check engine light came on and there was a loud knocking noise. Immediately turned around and went back to the dealership. After diagnosing it I was told it was a fuel injector and that they were replacing it. Received the truck back ~3/20/25. This truck is not my daily driver but the few times I have attempted to drive it the check engine light keeps coming on and I'm getting a message about the regen. On 5/28/25 I had the truck towed to my local Nissan dealership. They diagnosed it and although there is still a code for the same injector coming up they said the issue is the wiring harness and quoted me $7000 to repair and it's not covered under my powertrain warranty. After research it seems like this is a common issue in 2017-2019 Nissan Titan 5. 0l diesel trucks which will cause the crankshaft to break if not fixed. I am super frustrated that after less than 3 months of ownership I have an undrivable truck requiring thousands of dollars in repairs.

13 Power Train problem of the 2023 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 01/30/2025

While in park, my 2023 Nissan Titan inexplicably started rolling away as I was getting my mail from my mailbox. It traveled down my driveway, over a railroad tie border, deflected off of a tree, and eventually came to a stop when it became wedged under a pine tree. The wheels were turning. The vehicle was not sliding. There was snow and I recorded the impressions of the tire tread in the snow. Furthermore, when I got into the vehicle to back it out, the vehicle's shifter was still in park. I put it in reverse, backed it out from under the tree, and was able to drive it to my parking pad. The vehicle is available for inspection. My safety was put in risk because the only thing I could have done is chase after and attempt to jump back into the driver's seat (the door was still open). I thought better of taking such a risk and did not do so. Had my children been outside, they could have been run over by my truck. They would have had no idea I wasn't driving it, and -- as stated -- the truck drove itself over the railroad tie and into my yard. The problem has not been reproduced, but Nissan had a recall of similar vehicles that took multiple attempts to replicate. The vehicle has been inspected by the manufacturer (Nissan), and Nissan has said they are not at fault. The Titan has also been inspected by my insurance company. There were no warning lamps, and no warning of any type. I heard the crunching snow on the way back from my mailbox, looked at where the noise was coming from (rear driver's side wheel), and saw it was turning.

15 Power Train problem of the 2020 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 01/22/2025

The issues I'm experiencing with this vehicle is delayed pedal response and a whole slew of transmission problems. There are no codes or check engine lights on. When coming to a stop and the vehicle downshifts you can visibly see the rpms go up with each down shift and sometimes the downshift is so harsh going to 1st gear that it feels like another vehicle has bumped me from behind causing the truck to jerk forward and make a clunking sound. There is also a problem when upshifting where the rpms will jump up before shifting into the next gear. I had a situation where I was turning left on a green light with traffic coming and had plenty of time to make it but when I rolled out into the intersection and hit the gas nothing happened for over 2 seconds. The rpms didn't move and when I pressed the gas harder the vehicle went into a low gear and the rpms shot up to about 5000 rpms and accelerated rapidly to just miss an incoming vehicle. Vehicle has inconsistent shifting where it shifts ok one day and other days it acts erratically. I have been to two different dealerships and both say the truck drives as designed. I have had all the software updates done on this truck that were supposed to correct these issues but they have not helped. I opened up a case with Nissan support and they admitted these transmission problems were being addressed by their engineering team and a new software update would be available some point in the future, this was a year ago.

16 Power Train problem of the 2023 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 01/22/2025

The transmission has issues when temperatures drop below 5 fahrenheit. Specifically if the outside temperature drops below 5 the transmission does not engage gears correctly and results in sluggish acceleration, erratic rpms and poor fuel economy. To be clear this is not with cold starting the vehicle. This is documented instances of the vehicle after sufficient driving time to warm up. I have documented multiple instances of the vehicle having the erratic rpms and sluggish acceleration when the temperature drops to below 5. Each documented instance is after driving for a period of time (I note this to again document the vehicle is warm and not a cold start). During these drives the outside temperature drops and goes below 5 degrees during the drive at which point the vehicle begins having the sluggish acceleration and erratic rpms. To reiterate and ensure it is clear. The vehicle is warmed up. It is not a cold start concern. I keep reiterating this because each time I raise the concern to Nissan and the dealer they simply say it is cold, this issue occurs after sufficient time for the vehicle to warm up. This is being raised to NHTSA because when it is happening the sluggish acceleration leads to general drivability issues, along with the erratic rpms result in substantial loss of mpg. When it occurs gas mileage drops to generally about 8mpgs at best far below the rated mpg of the vehicle and normal driving characteristics.

17 Power Train problem of the 2024 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 01/15/2025

Vehicle has 2900 miles, it has a noticeable hum/whining sound coming from rear end area. Sound is very pronounced at 46-50 mph under throttle. Issue has been addressed with a local dealership. They found metal shavings in the rear end assembly. Their assessment is such that the rear differential has prematurely failed. They recomend replacing the rear differential carrier at 2900 mi, mind you. That said, they warned the vehicle has the potential of causing a "lock up" but have made no concerted effort to actually replace the part. Instead, they claim the part is order.

18 Power Train problem of the 2016 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 01/03/2025

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? fuel system/oil system catastrophic engine failure. Yes it is how was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? truck shut down on highway at 70 mph with a child and wife in the truck has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? truck needs a complete motor. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? inspection was through a well know ase diesel technician were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, no there was not and when did they first appear? n/a.

19 Power Train problem of the 2018 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 11/27/2024

While driving on interstate 20 at a 75 mph speed in traffic, the truck began a loud knocking noise and the engine shut down. After fighting the dead truck off the roadway from the highway speeds and avoiding traffic, I was able to get the truck safely stopped. Upon attempting to restart the engine, the starter caught on fire. I was able to get the fire extinguished with minimal damage. The truck was towed by a wrecker to my home. I replaced the starter and inspected the wiring harness for fire damages. The truck did restart after sitting for several days, and the knock which was heard on the roadway the day of the failure was excessive. After other checks and inspections, the crankshaft was found to be broken in half causing loud knocking. This is a catastrophic failure with a monetary replacement of approximately $20,000-$30,000.

20 Power Train problem of the 2016 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 11/08/2024

Crankshaft failure.

21 Power Train problem of the 2024 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 09/21/2024

The vehicle lurches forward during stopping for a traffic light, stop sign, etc. Feels like a possible transmission issue, like a hard downshift, but the lurch is a safety issue. Has been happeneing since the truck was purchased, and the dealer service has been unable to resolve. Service manager drove in the truck and confirmed the jolt forward. Forums indicate this issue is occurring with other 2024 Titan trucks. The lurch forward can interfere with stopping distance since the lurch is stronger than the braking efficiency during that sudden jolt. This issue has been ongoing since November 2023 with no resolution.

22 Power Train problem of the 2024 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 09/15/2024

Truck (intermittently) downshifts hard and (intermittently) lurches forward when coming to a complete stop. The issue is worse when stopping at a slower rate of speed than when from stopping abruptly (maybe because this is an issue shifting from 2nd into 1st at a slow speed rather than shifting from 3rd to 1st during a more aggressive quicker stop). Feels like the transmission is fluttering between park and 1st gear and (intermittently) at very slow stopping speeds and will give a sensation similar to that of being hit from behind. (not saying this is happening, but rather what it feels like when this is happening). Seems like a gear alignment problem or a solenoid/shift module acting erratic. It does cause some concerning safety issues because it can unexpectedly "lurch" forward when coming to a stop and you may assume your fully stopped when a burst jolting you forward happens out of nowhere. This erratic behavior also makes me concerned about premature transmission wear and premature rear end gear wear due to the abrupt "clashing" and jolting of its gears. First reported this issue to a Nissan dealership at 500 miles and was told it was normal breaking in process and to put more miles in it. It continuous to be an issue to this day now with 4100 miles on it. I feel like the issue is causing premature transmission/rear end wear in addition to a potential safety issue. This issue happens only at very slow speeds however.

23 Power Train problem of the 2017 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 09/02/2024

My turbo actuator went out in 2022, paid $2,000 to get it fixed. A year later in 2023 it went out again and ruined both the low and high turbos, had to get them replaced again this time under warranty but Nissan of dearborn in dearborn, michigan had my truck for 87 days before I got it back. They tried to tell me I needed a whole new engine block. I’m scared because if this happens again who is going to be held liable for it, me? not to mention the damage it’s most likely caused on the engine block and crankshaft. The last thing I want is for that to break as I’m going down the highway.

24 Power Train problem of the 2024 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 07/02/2024

Transmission jerks when decelerating to a stop. It’s as if it drops to the wrong gear and then tries to correct. Does this every time. Causes the truck to lurch and jerk.

25 Power Train problem of the 2016 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 06/20/2024

While driving my 2016 Nissan Titan xd cummins (86,000 miles) on the highway, the engine started making a loud clacking noise, followed by a loud breaking or displacement sound. The check engine light did not come on, and the truck did not go into limp mode. Possible issues might be crankshaft or bearing failure, piston or connecting rod damage, or a valve train problem. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. There were no prior warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms before this failure. The problem has not yet been inspected or confirmed by a dealer or service center.

26 Power Train problem of the 2023 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 03/21/2024

The truck was parked on hill and as I unlocked it, it rolled down 2 blocks. Hit a brick wall and finally went into a yard and hit a parked car. This is the second time this truck has rolled down. First time, I was able to catch it but this time I couldn’t. It was horrific to witness.

27 Power Train problem of the 2023 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 03/06/2024

When you come to a stop, the vehicle lurches forward like someone hit your vehicle from behind.

28 Power Train problem of the 2016 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 03/04/2024

I am the owner of a 2016 Nissan Titan xd, which has a 5. 0 diesel engine. I have concerns reading about the current status of a preliminary investigation by your agency regarding the crankshaft breakdown while driving without or warning. My vehicle has 57,000 miles, and while I still have not suffered breakdown I do have concerns on the safe driving this Titan xd. I purchased this vehicle to travel towing a travel trailer, and traveling with our grandchildren. I reading what other Titan owners have indicated, I now have concern on the safety of traveling in highways and suffering such a breakdown. I also travel on mountain roads to reach vacation sites around our area, and having no control in such conditions make me unsure of the safe travels. I worry on my $52,000 investment may be non dependable, or unsafe to use. I am requesting a your agency find a conclusion to the investigation as soon as possible, as the safety of owners, and other drivers could be in danger. I welcome updates of the progress of the investigation via email hjaramillo52@yahoo. Com, or mail box #233 santa clara, nm 88026. I also welcome phone contact at 575-519-2347. Thank you for your agency service to protect the welfare and safety of highway, and vehicle hazards. Respectfully horacio jaramillo w.

29 Power Train problem of the 2022 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 03/01/2024

I am trying to get an appointment at the Nissan service in clarksville, MD about the safety concern. They haven't returned to me after I left numerous messages via text and their office answer machines. My truck acts very oddly at around 40 mph which is very hazard and I did send the video link but they rather not view it until I get an appointment. I did reach the Nissan consumer affairs that I have waited long enough but they told me to continue to contact the service and they are aware of it due to the log. I did send the video to both of them but they couldn't view it at their work computer. The truck drifted on the ramp around 40 mph as I captured it. See the video below, at :20, I kept on the gas for around mph, the rpm and mph dropped and the slippery warning light and the brake system was triggered. I felt like my truck was pulled back when that happened. That is a bit dangerous to drive. I dont see any damages under my truck. Can you escalate the issue to the Nissan and the local service that they should take a look at and take care of it? the truck has plenty of problems and it is only two years old. My old Nissan car almost had no issues and ran hundreds of thousands miles. . Read more...

30 Power Train problem of the 2016 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 01/01/2024

Early 2024, winter: transfer case has only ever been used twice, and it failed. The entire transfer case had to be replaced. Case was replaced by an authorized Nissan dealership. This is a known problem by Nissan, just like the terrible 5. 0 diesel engine.

31 Power Train problem of the 2017 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 12/28/2023

While driving down the highway it started to feel like the pavement was warped so we changed lanes and the shaking got violently worse. Put the truck into neutral and drifted down the shoulder hoping to get to a safe place and prevent any further damage. Who knows what kind of pileup could have happened if the engine had seized like it has done to others. There were no engine codes to warn us. Ended up being stranded around a sharp bend with vehicles and tractor trailers scarily flying by us. Truck is currently sitting at montgomeryville Nissan in PA. They want $2200 to tear down the engine and diagnose. There are metal chunks in the oil pan so it clearly needs a new engine. I don’t trust Nissan to inspect their own equipment especially with the known failures with this engine. Diesels are supposed to be the strongest engines you can buy. This truck only has 43,000 miles on it. Please help.

32 Power Train problem of the 2024 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 12/01/2023

2024 Nissan Titan pro-4x with less than 1,000 miles. When braking to make a complete stop the 9 speed transmission surges and the truck uncontrollably lurches forward almost causing rear end crash into another vehicle. Nissan dealer where purchased said its a software problem and Nissan is working on a fix soon. Online owner forums indicate this is a known issue and Nissan has been promising a fixed since 2021!!!.

33 Power Train problem of the 2016 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 11/24/2023

Multiple occasions of driving on road and the engine shuts off. I have had to safely coast the truck off the road, after several minutes the truck starts again and drives fine. This is occurring regularly. I may go a week with the truck driving fine, then all of a sudden it powers down and shuts off.

34 Power Train problem of the 2016 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 11/22/2023

Broken crankshaft at 99,400 miles.

35 Power Train problem of the 2023 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 11/15/2023

Transmission shifting is abrasive particularly when coming to a stop. Vehicle lurches forward when transmission shifts from 2nd to 1st. Loss of control imminent when traveling on slick surfaces. I have brought this to the attention of my local dealership and was told there are no warning lights illuminated so the transmission is working correctly. They also stated that this is a common complaint with no remedy?.
