Nissan Titan owners have reported 375 problems related to power train (under the power train category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Nissan Titan based on all problems reported for the Titan.
There has been multitude of this issue if you search the Titanxd forums. Same thing happens to everyone. Abs, traction control, and the 4wd warning flashes on the dash. After this happens, it changes the characteristics of how the truck drives. Rapid shift, high rpm shifts, which are extremely hard to control on the highway. Also mentioning the abs brake not working. Nissan has been changing out transfer cases because of this. The vehicle is extremely dangerous cause of these issues. I hope this makes headway to Nissan corporate.

When coming to a stop(rolling stop) the truck will jerk rough. Which causes the truck to lunge forward. Multiple times have I almost hit the car in front of me causing an accident. Took vehicle to Nissan 2 times. First time I was informed. “ it’s the characteristics of the truck” which blew my mind. Second time I took it the mechanic was able to replicate the issue. It’s now been 2 weeks since the second visit and nothing has been done. A brand new truck. And already with problems with 4,800 miles only!!.

When coming to a stop, my truck will lurch forward and will pull through normal braking, requiring increased braking pedal force to avoid a front collision. This does not happen at every stop, but often enough to be extremly concerning. This has been occurring since I bought the truck new. Truck now has just under 5,000 miles on the odometer and has not improved. I need a solution as I cannot allow anyone in my family to drive my truck for fear of accident.

1. The crankshaft failed. The vehicle is available for inspection. Nissan has confirmed crankshaft and engine to be unrepairable. 2. Event happened on a weekend late afternoon on a busy highway bridge. The Titan was driving in the far left lane at 65-70 mph. Had to maneuver 2 lanes over down the bridge with no power to the engine. Safety for myself and many others on the highway bridge were put into danger as they had to maneuver out of my way while also driving around 65-70mph. Tow truck company also put in danger due to the busy nature of the highway when picking up vehicle. 3. Yes the problem cannot be reproduced because the vehicle is un-drivable. It has been confirmed by a dealer. 4. Yes the vehicle has been inspected at the local Nissan dealership. They stated the crank shaft failed which led to the engine becoming unrepairable. 5. There were zero warning signs. I did not receive a single warning lamp, message or symptom. The vehicle experienced violent shaking followed by complete loss of power on the highway bridge, causing the engine to shut down. The Titan had received all routine maintenance at the local Nissan dealership.

So back in October 2023 ,I noticed a lot of things go wrong at once lime the radiator had to be replaced because it was leaking everywhere. The steering went bad and started leaking. The rear main seal started leaking. The clock spring went bad. There isntons of water always in the passenger floorboard and passenger door. The fuel gauge is all over the place and never reads right. The oil pressure gauge always has been on high. The engine light, air bag light slip light, and abs light have always been on. The right rear window stopped going up and the controls on the drivers door sometimes work and sometimes don't. The manuel shifter has never worked and I cannot put the transmission in 2,3, or 4th gear from a stand still. Always been weird knocking sound in the suspension.

I currently have a 2023 Nissan Titan pro-4x 4wd that intermittently when slowing to a stop between the speeds of 0-7mph it will, at times, feel as though the transmission is dropping from 3rd gear to 1st gear without cycling into 2nd gear properly creating almost a bumping effect to where it feels like you are almost being bumped from behind. Like being rear-ended at a very slow speed. There is a difference in slowing to a stop and it cycles properly which this truck will do the majority of the time and then when it does this hard skipping of the gear and feeling like it is being bumped. I have taken it to the dealership on numerous occasions and reported the concern and let them know that it feels that on the occasions that it shifts hard into that bump it will move forward a bit and that I do not feel comfortable that it may not be an issue with the brakes as well. The dealership has not been able to replicate it to the extent that we are reporting it because it can be so intermittent, and you would need to drive it a bit see when it happens that they keep telling us that they cannot replicate it and it is fine. They had a Nissan engineer come take a look and he could not replicate the exact "bump" feel so he said it is normal and said go ahead and drive it. I have had others in the vehicle, a salesman at the dealership, and others that have driven trucks before, and I have had numerous Titans prior to this one and none have ever done this and other say the same thing that this is an issue and likely with the transmission. I reached out to another mechanic, and he stated that it sounds like it definitely could be an issue that needs to be looked at and could cause a safety risk to myself or others if something happens and does not allow the vehicle to properly slow down or shift into gear properly. The dealership continues to tell me that since they cannot replicate the issue to just drive it. I have towing off.
Nissan Titan pro-4x 4wd was bought new from dealership. Have had issues with the truck downshifting hard when slowing down since purchase. The truck lurches forward under 5mph - 10mph and feels like you are being rearended by another vehicle. Identical issue to NHTSA complaints 11578467 and 11539769. Have voiced my concerns to the Nissan dealership I have maintenance completed at. They cannot recreate the problem or diagnosis the issue. They cited it may be a software issue. Have voiced concerns and continued issue with every standardized oil chain/tire rotation and scheduled maintenance appointments. No resolution to the issue has been made.
Driving at normal highway speed with my family vehicle shaked violently and stalled while in the middle lane of highway. I was nearly hit and crashed trying to coast to shoulder. I was towed to Nissan dealership and was told crankshaft broken in 2 peices. I’ve done research in this 5. 0 cummins diesel engine and come to find out this is a very common failure due to faulty wiring harness that provides power to injectors. I’ve contacted corporate Nissan to report problem with no help. There is youtube videos on this common unsafe problem.
Loud noise and engine kept running but was unresponsive. Was traveling about 70 mph just coasted off the interstate. Was pulling my pontoon boat back to the lake during rush hour if I hadn’t been at an exit might have turned out different. Had it towed to nearest Nissan dealership and was told right away camshaft was broken and engine would have to be replaced.
2017 Nissan Titan with 5. 6ltr endurance motor started knocking at or around 71k miles as with the service bulletin was taken to dealership where it was inspected and found cylinder 7 with scaring as per bulletin with replacement required to fix the cylinder issues is well known down to the years and VIN series affected with out of pocket expense of 11,500. 00 for replacement. Had I been traveling I could of gotten stranded with family somewhere who knows where waiting for repairs this is such a well known issue wheres the recal.
The truck has a broken crankshaft with only 80 thousand miles on it an when it happen was driving an lost all power to everything including the power steering witch pulled me off the road without control an insurance will not cover because the same thing has happen too many other Titans I added the only email the would send to us below they are trying to hide the fact they sold defective crankshafts in trucks an it coast as much to fix it as it does to buy a whole truck.
The contact owns a 2020 Nissan Titan. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 22v671000 (power train) and 22v457000 (power train) however, the parts to do the recall repairs were not yet available. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, for a routine recall repair where it was diagnosed that the transfer case needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The mechanic informed the contact the repair would be at her expense. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

The truck down shifted twice and then shut completely off while I was driving down the interstate. I was towed to Nissan in springfield missouri (closest to me) and they could not figure out the issue and charged me $500. I then towed the truck to Nissan of jefferson city, missouri, where I bought it. They inspected the motor and told me it was a complete loss. Metal in the oil pan from internal parts. They quoted me $39k for it to be replaced and I currently owe $30k on the truck. I only had this truck for 10 months when this failure occurred and left me and my family stranded. No check engine lights, odd noises or anything. Nissan has been reluctant to help and from what I've been reading this is a very normal occurrence for these trucks. I'm not sure what I'm going to do to get through this but I don't want it to happen to anyone else, so hopefully NHTSA can sort out this issue. Thank you.
Broken crankshaft. Complete engine failure. Not covered on warranty.
Vehicle will not go over 40 mph, struggles to pick up speed, has been in the shop on numerous occasions for the same issue.

The rear differential and axle has an inevitable failure with no warning lights or much anything else besides some possible noises! the vent designs are terrible it causes overheating and internal turmoil over time seals start leaking, bearings and internal gears get weak from over hot /cold repeated cycles allowing moisture to build and accumulate in the 3rd member where it’s supposed to be completely sealed and dry other then gear oil to lube and maintain proper function. My personal and current experience is I’m without my truck, missing work and very . Very thankful that it didn’t lock up on the highway/freeway that I drive too and from work about 85 miles daily! the best part is there’s no fast cost efficient resolution! the differential open carrier with spider gears held in place by a shaft pin and tiny 8 mm bolt that broke causing the pin to slide back and forth (pinball effect) into the ring /pinion, side gears, spider gears untill it either gets jammed in the gears and instantly locks up or slowly fractures away untill gears held by nothing, collide causing catastrophic failure! I happened to notice the inside of rear wheel wet because when I was exiting the highway I heard a faint sound almost like a bolt or rock or something hit underneath the truck so I took a glance at everything and noticed that wheel grease soaked and a little fluid on the bottom of transfer case. . Long story short I drove it approximately 1 mile to a shop there it still sits needing complete different axle and differential or a whole new carrier and all bearings/seals spacers possibly axle shaft don’t know yet and dealership can not get any parts for it!! the parts are obsolete! none! don’t sell them, don’t make them…. . They recommend and can only replace whole unit around 3-5k thousands of dollars I wish I had!! all of the research I’ve done tells me this is a huge problem! theres hundreds of thousands of people that this has happened too! asking why isn’t there a recall??!.

While towing 8,000 lbs, the engine made a horrible knocking sound and then stopped, causing me to lose power and the ability to adequately control my load, placing the traveling public and myself at a grave risk of harm.
When driving under normal road conditions and slowing down to stop at a light or stop sign the transmission shifts down abruptly to 1st gear and lunges forward like you have been hit in the rear end. Been doing this since new and dealer cannot diagnose or repair the issue. Seems common on these new Titans. Just had to adjust my driving habit to keep on the brakes as slowing down to a stop.
My 2017 Nissan Titan automatic transmission started acting up. After a two hour highway drive it started to hesitate and then jump forward alternatively. Then vehicle would not shift up from first gear to the next for about a mile to then jump up with a vigorous forward sudden motion. This is dangerous when vehicles or pedestrian are in front of me because I risk to hit them .
The contact owns a 2004 Nissan Titan. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the vehicle rolled forward, causing the vehicle to roll into a rock, damaging the transmission. Additionally, the air bag warning lights illuminated, and the seat beats locked. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 180,000.

My vehicle when slowing to a stop down shifts a bit harshly then upshifts suddenly making a loud click and lurches forward abruptly. This has gotten worse with time. I have 8,156 miles as I write this. The 2 recalls were complied with Friday 12/02/2022 at orr Nissan bossier city, la. I initially called and took it in for the problem described and even though the technician said the problem no longer exits, it does. I called them back after I left but they were closing up when I left and no one answered the phone, except the receptionist. I called again Saturday morning no answer then again at 1412 and told them problem still exists. Joe, my service tech was off Saturday. I called again Monday morning at 0810 to verify my message was delivered to him but it had not been. They want me to bring it in and stayed it may be 2-3 days before they can get to it. No courtesy vehicle and I have to work. This is in my opinion a safety issue. The sudden lurch forward while slowing could cause a rearend accident. Please look into this issue as I see it seems to be a common concern for 2021 Nissan Titan owners.
Downshifting during braking causes sudden and unpredictable forward jumping. During normal braking, the truck will jump two to three feet forward without warning or any way to prevent it.
The four-wheel drive transfer case failed locking the truck in 4wd. The transfer case had to replaced at a cost of approximately $4000. My research has found that this is a common problem with this vehicle and Nissan will not cover the repairs. This truck is like new and had never been abused or used off road and has always been maintained.
Connecting rod cap on cyl3 came loose and drop in bottom of oil pan, and crankshaft broke and seized up engine. Transfer case won’t shift into 4wd.
We are having a transmission slipping issue caused by a torque converter which Nissan says will be $8000 to repair.
I have been dealing with a transmission issue with a 2021 new Nissan Titan since Jul 26 with no resolution. I brought my Nissan Titan hd in for service at bayou Nissan on July 26 for a transmission issue. The truck jerks when downshifting, the jerk can throw you forward with a hard downshift when coming to a stop. This has at times locked my seatbelt and thrown passengers forward. This is clearly and regularly documented online, the links provided are the exact description of what is happening in my vehicle. . Read more...
The problem I am writing about concerns this vehicle and recall #pc773 egi harness. Reference must also be made to Nissan #ntb20-89 dated December 8, 2020. I purchased this vehicle from bates Nissan (5501 east central texas expressway, killeen TX 76543, 254-781-3837) on February 18, 2021 used with 5448 miles. I was told that it had been owned by an employee at the dealership. It is my understanding, as described in ntb20-89, that a Nissan initiated "stop sale" was put into effect in December of 2020. However, bates Nissan failed to complete this recall prior to selling it to me and did not inform me that there was an open recall on this vehicle. On July 22, 2022 I had a Nissan dealer (lebrun Nissan, 396 grant Ave, auburn NY 13021, 315-253-7700) attempt to perform this recall. The technician did not find any evidence of visible damage on or near the transmission power wires oem splice, however step 25's "continuity test" of the transmission power wire failed. I am a highly skilled engineer and have reviewed ntb20-89, and find that the transmission power wire continuity test to battery ground is flawed for the following reasons. 1) the process does not isolate (disconnect all ends) the transmission power wire. Therefore, it quite likely that some dvom's will show continuity to battery ground causing a false positive. 2) since the recall is to determine if this wires insulation has failed, a continuity test is not appropriate since it cannot measure the integrity of the wire insulation. Therefore, this test could also test as a false negative and allow vehicles to return to service with insulation that is still compromised/weak. Instead, an insulation dielectric test should be performed on this wire. Issue #2 is concerning, since vehicle safety may be at risk and is the primary reason I am informing NHTSA. My hope is that NHTSA has technical people that can review ntb20-89 and discuss with Nissan. I have no confidence that Nissan can fix this issue.
The turbo actuator failed twice. I have yet to replace it a second time hoping there would be a recall. I spoke with two dealers and they tell me it is a common problem on Nissan Titans with a cummins engine. The check engine comes on and then the truck goes into limp mode. It does not want to go past 5 -10 mph. It goes away after the truck is turned off for 15 minutes. Then after a week or two it comes back. If I do not turn it off for 15 minutes the truck turns itself off.
2021 Nissan Titans were equipped with Nissan's new 9 speed transmission. People are having major issues with this new transmission including me. I bought my brand new 2021 Nissan Titan in January of 2022. I have had issues with the transmission since day 1. Hard shifts from 1 to 4th gear. Always searching for gears. The safety issue is when you come to a stop the truck lurches forward on the last downshift causing the driver to almost hit the car in front of them. Also, when coasting to a stop every downshift is harsh and it slows the truck down because it's shifting to a lower gear to soon. Nissan performed an engine/transmission computer update but that didn't resolve anything and now they tell me there's nothing they can do about it.
The contact owns a 2022 Nissan Titan. The contact stated while driving from a complete stop, the accelerator pedal was depressed however, the vehicle failed to respond. The contact stated upon releasing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle shifted into second gear. The contact continually released the accelerator pedal until the vehicle was able to drive 50 mph and operated as intended. The dealer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the failure had reoccurred while driving. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 6,850.
