The transmission hoses don't stay on well, I have had to take it to a specialist mechanic on two separate occasions because it's a cvt and no dip stick transmission. Reached 102,000 mi and transmission started to shutter and then 2 weeks later quit. Transmission stopped working January 6th 2026.

Mileage: approximately 45,000 current status: inoperable; held at joe machens Nissan pending evaluation by Nissan consumer affairs. Description of the problem the vehicle has become completely inoperable, making it unsafe to operate. In the months prior to the failure, traction control warning indicators intermittently appeared on the dashboard. I did not recognize their significance at the time and did not document them, but they may have been early warning signs of the current operational failure. Approximately 22 days prior to the vehicle becoming completely inoperable, it underwent a recall update, oil change, and tire rotation at joe machens Nissan. Staff reported no concerns at the time. Shortly afterward, the vehicle began exhibiting reduced driving function and erratic power, which eventually led to complete inoperability. On [xxx], while commuting approximately 40 miles at highway speeds (up to 70 mph), the vehicle exhibited unpredictable engine response. The rpms fluctuated erratically, and the vehicle would not accelerate beyond 70 mph. There were no dashboard warning indicators at the time. The vehicle is currently in the care of joe machens Nissan pending evaluation by Nissan consumer affairs. I am submitting this complaint to document potential safety concerns and to contribute to investigations regarding this vehicle model, including similar complaints reported by other 2021 Nissan Versa owners. Safety impact statement the operational failure poses a risk of reduced vehicle control and potential accident while driving at highway speeds, even in the absence of dashboard warnings. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

While driving down the interstate the hood latch failed. Our hood flew up smashed the windshield and fenders. This incident about killed us. I strongly recommend looking into this issue before others do die!.

I have had this happen numerous times in my car for absolutely no reason. I also just got my cars state inspection and nothing was noted, while other things unrelated to this issue were recommended by the mechanic. The car will start to stall in reverse and in regular driving mode. Most recently it will come up with see manufacturers manual, and my engine light, traction control and crash sensors will appear on my dash board. Shutting the car on and off doesn't change the issue. Also this will happen sporadically sometime with check lights on and sometimes it's random and resolves itself. This is extremely dangerous when you're trying to drive and your car won't get "unstuck" and then randomly goes full speed. I drive 5,000 miles a year so I'm not using the car that hard.

My car keeps having sensors go out. Such as the tire pressure sensor and fuel compression sensor I think is what they called it anyways. They start to go up a hill. And my car loses all speed and slows way down my traction control. Don't turn on when it's supposed to. And needs to my cruise control, quit working when this went out. And my engines started sounding louder, which is weird because it's the one variable transmission. I love this car. I really. I'm tired of replacing sensors, though. Why do they keep going out? I kind of need those sensors to keep the carving good and the tire sensor lets me know if my tires are going flat or not. And I don't know now. I have to constantly be checking my tires with it. Pressure gauge also may I ask how to find out value? I found out the carla. I'm buying this from has charged me 3 times more than it's claimed value that carmax says it's worth which honestly I love this car so much? it really doesn't bother me that they did. But at the same time, I'm having to spend all this money getting it fixed. Because things keep going out. Online it says that it's only worth maybe 6000 I'm paying almost 15000 plus I've paid out a pucket quite a bit and on top of that it has a warranty but I'm still having to replace things that are kind of strange to be going out. You've repeatedly what could be causing this to happen over and over.

I was driving on the highway and my hood came up and hit my windshield. The windshield was cracked. The hood brackets were bent and the hood was dented. A trooper arrived on scene. The hood was tied down with bracing and needs repair. The hood latch gave way.

The vehicle has a cvt transmission failure causing severe shuddering, jerking, and progressive loss of acceleration. Initially the vehicle would not exceed 20 mph, then worsened to 15 mph, then 10 mph, and now will not exceed 5 mph. The issue consistently occurs after the vehicle has been driven for more than approximately 2 minutes. There are no warning lights or alerts prior to the failure. The vehicle has completely lost power while driving and has stopped in the middle of the road with no ability to accelerate or restart the vehicle, creating an extremely dangerous situation and risk of collision. This appears to be a known and common defect with the cvt transmission on this vehicle model and year. The condition has progressively worsened and makes the vehicle unsafe to operate.

There is a shutter leaving 1st gear.
I own a 2016 Nissan Versa, and the air conditioning system has completely failed due to what I’ve been told is an evaporator core issue. After researching, I’ve found that this is a very common problem among Versa owners across multiple model years. The failure causes extreme heat in the cabin, especially in summer months, and creates a serious distraction and discomfort while driving. It becomes physically exhausting and mentally draining, even leading to dizziness or loss of focus — which I believe is a potential safety hazard. Nissan has not issued a recall or acknowledged the issue, despite the large number of owners reporting the same problem. I am requesting that the NHTSA investigate this as a potential pattern of manufacturer defect. The heat exposure is more than an inconvenience — it’s a daily health and safety risk. Please look into this!!!!!.
I own a 2016 Nissan Versa, and the air conditioning system has completely failed, making the car almost unbearable to drive in the florida heat. I have already spent over $1,000 trying to fix the issue — including replacing multiple a/c components — and the air still doesn’t work. A mechanic told me the evaporator core needs to be replaced, but that repair alone is too expensive for me right now. Driving this car in extreme heat has made me physically miserable and mentally drained. I sweat constantly, feel dizzy, and can’t think straight while on the road. I’ve even started losing things and forgetting where I put things because I’m so overheated and foggy. I have to dress half-naked just to survive the drive, and it’s humiliating. I’ve noticed that many other Nissan Versa owners report the same a/c failure, especially in similar model years, which tells me this is not just my car — it’s a pattern. I believe this is a manufacturer defect that Nissan is ignoring, and I respectfully ask that the NHTSA investigate this issue. The heat exposure is more than an inconvenience — it’s a daily health and safety risk.
The transmission slips constantly. Car loses power. When they check the car they say nothing is wrong. Cvt transmission.
Limp mode when pushing in clutch to start car. Car will not go above 40mph randomly must turn car off and hope it resets.
I bought a used 2012 Nissan Versa from a third party at a very low mileage (46k miles), and it’s now at 54k, and the cvt is showing issues. Check engine light recently came on and I’ve always went to Nissan technicians and they said they’re surprised at 54k miles I’m even having this kind of an issue. However because of the age of vehicle and warranty expired in 2018 well after I purchased it, Nissan refuses to repair what they’ve seem to have poorly manufactured. I’m a student and cannot afford this kind of repair which was the sole purpose of purchasing a low mileage vehicle to begin with. The car is is in great condition, well taken care of, low mileage, but a broken down cvt? this is unacceptable.
Car was purchased September 2024 for my grandson. This car was garaged until mid-March when my grandson received his driver's license. End of March 2025, car was in the dealership for service and a complimentary multipoint inspection was done. On may 14, 2025, my grandson was driving to school in the rain. All of a sudden, water starts gushing out of the glove compartment. The whole interior was flooded including the backseat. My grandson received his driver license in March, 2025 (a new driver). There were no warning signs before the water started gushing. Dealership said it was a clogged cowl. Nothing was said about maintenance on this cowl when the car was purchased. There is nothing in the manual about this cowl. Looking on the internet, this is a known defect of the Nissan Versa and nothing is being done about it. Thank god he did not get into an accident. After only putting 4000 miles on the car since purchased, the insurance company has totaled the car.

I have a manual transmission and can usually go up a steep hill by my house in 3rd gear. But on this occasion in 2nd gear I was unable to maintain speed even with the gas pedal all the way to the floor. It was also having trouble maintaining speed on less steep highway hills. The dealer replaced the alternator which helped, but I feel this puts my safety and others at risk because I was going much slower than expected and felt that I might not even be able to get up the hill. After the alternator was replaced, it has not happened again. There were no warnings then or after, but the dealer said there a code for fuel sensor that they could detect with their computer.
On 3/21/25 I was informed by malik's auto repair that I need my transmission replaced after a diagnostic of my car making a vacuum noise. After researching, I found that many Nissan vehicles have been experiencing this problem. I contacted Nissan and they informed me that no recall has been made for my make and model. It is a safety issue because at any time the car could stop causing an accident or fatality. Also, I had to have my starter replaced on this car. My car would not start. I was out with my daughter and if it was not for me having aaa we would have been stranded. Nissan stated that this issue was fixed on my car prior to me purchasing it. There is no record of this issue being fixed on carfax and I paid almost $600 to replace it. Nissan have not assisted me with anything. Now I have to try to come up with the funds for a transmission.
I am writing to report a potential safety and design defect in my vehicle that I have also noticed affecting many other owners of the same make and model. The issue involves the rubber seal at the edge of the windshield, which is supposed to prevent water from entering the engine bay. However, the rubber is not properly secured—it merely sits in place—allowing water to pass underneath it. As a result, water accumulates on the valve cover near the ignition coil, creating a risk of electrical problems, including misfires or potential engine failure. Over time, this could lead to serious mechanical and safety issues. After researching, I have found that many other owners of the same vehicle have experienced this same problem. I believe this issue poses a safety concern and should be investigated further. Please advise on any next steps or potential recalls regarding this matter. Thank you for your time and attention.
Car will not accelerate properly. Will not go over 65 miles per hour.
I pulled up to a stoplight that was on a hill and tried to put on the brake. The brake pedal was highly resistant and wouldn’t let me push down fully. At that moment, all of the warning lights on the dashboard turned on. When the light turned green, I tried to hit the gas pedal but the car wouldn’t move forward. The car started rolling backward and I almost collided with the car behind me. I had to stomp on the brake as hard as I could to get the vehicle to stop. I then had to put on my hazards, put the car in park, turn it off, and turn it back on again before the vehicle worked like normal. My spouse said he’s had the same thing happen to him twice in the past year. Each time, the brakes and accelerator pedal freeze up and all the warning lights come on. But after turning the car off and on again, it goes back to normal. I don’t think this is a battery problem because the car battery is less than one year old.

The arm that comes in from the firewall of the clutch master cylinder that has the little plastic clip that attaches to the rod of the clutch pedal, constantly pops off leaving you with complete loss of control of your car. This is a known issue by all Nissan Versa owners!! this faulty issue has happened to so many people that have even had brand new clutch master cylinders replaced. Many owners have had to create a fix themselves due to this faulty clip. This can be extremely dangerous while driving. In my situation yesterday in high traffic I lost complete control of my clutch. I have uploaded some photos that another person posted on a forum to show the clip and rod and that they used their own concoction to fix this. This has caused many Versa owners complete loss of control of their vehicles.
Manual transmission barely responded to acceleration with gas pedal to the floor (literally the gas pedal was engaged as far as it would go). The sluggish response was present in all five gears. To restate, the car was extremely sluggish - it barely accelerated. This has been an episodic issue that has occurred about six times over the course of 8 months. In additional details, I put in the date of the most recent occurrence but it has happened multiple times since purchasing the car new in April 2024.
The driver side door is stuck in the closed position and will not open. The only way for the driver to get out of the car is to move to the passenger seat and open the passenger side door. To get inside and drive the car, the driver needs to open the passenger side door and move to the driver seat. The condition creates a very dangerous situation for the driver and passengers. The design of the door mechanisms should fail on the open position for safety! I have owned many cars and this is the first time I experienced this dangerous condition. Today, 1/7/2025, I went to the Nissan dealership to repair the door defect. The replacement parts are not available and will be ordered. The repair cost of the work order is $825. 61. I believe this defect should be recalled to protect other drivers and avoid dangerous situations. Details of Nissan car dealer and work order below: future Nissan roseville 600 automall dr. . The gear shift selector is stuck in park. Being forced to use the manual override in order to drive, reverse or place car in neutral every time the car is being used. This is ridiculous!.
I’ve read other other complaints about this make/ model car and my car does all of those things. First the acceleration at rand times my car will not accelerate whether it be pulling out of a parking space, sitting at a red light, making a turn etc. Have took to a mechanic because this issue and my check engine light was on due to the mass air flow sensor or filter got that fixed and car still does the same thing. Second when playing music through bluetooth the radio just randomly restarts after playing approx 3 songs. Next the forward and back collision , abs system lights make an appearance on the dash whenever they feel like it. The emergency breaking system forward and back breaks for me when nothing is behind my car or I’m a great deal behind another car. The car now cuts off while driving. My passenger side door does not lock when pressed on the key fob with all of the other doors. The remote start does not work at all. The trunk does not open when pressed on the key fob either. The lighter port does not have any power. I did buy this car used for being 5 years old and having 71,000 miles I thought that I was getting a somewhat decent deal but that is not the case, I do not feel safe in this car nor do I get to enjoy any of the features of “having a newer car”.
I just got my car yesterday. I was leaving work and my car had no power. I couldn't get up to speed for a very long time, it was as if it was in limp mode. I got home and scanned it and got a p2615 code. Upon doing research I have found several others having this problem. It is very scary and dangerous to drive this way. Also, cleared the code and it runs fine until the next time. This problem needs to be addressed before someone gets hurt or worse.
My car is equipped with a 5 speed manual transmission and I stalled on a hill and was alerted to a check engine light and reduced power.
My car while driving accelerates on its own and while driving it brakes on its own making it dangerous when driving because when you go to make a turn the car just brakes while you're trying to accelerate.
I had a oem battery replaced 6 months ago and the battery went dead again in 6 months and now I have to jumpstart the battery to start the car.

The arm rest that protrudes from the center console, sometimes momentarily interferes with steering control during turns due to obstructing arm movement. Also it frequently causes a minor elbow injury from hitting the arm rest when making a turn.

These vehicles have a cowl drain located on the passenger side under the wiper blades. The drain is really small so it clogs easily. When there are heavy rains, my car floods. It has happened on several occasions, including Monday 7/8/2024. It happened while driving in June 2023. I am not sure why Nissan hasn’t done anything to mitigate this problem. I am not even sure of this is the appropriate place to contract but I figured I would try. Thanks.
I have had two major instances where the mass air flow sensor (maf) has caused my vehicle to lose total power. The first incident occurred around midnight one night as I was heading home. I was unable to accelerate from a stop sign and had to put the car in neutral and coast in reverse to be able to get my vehicle out of the road and along the curb. The vehicle would not start on its own. I had to have the vehicle towed and taken to a mechanic where repairs were completed. Within two months of these repairs, I notice the problem seems to be returning. Three times I notice the car not accelerating correctly and one instance where I tried to press the gas pedal and had no response from the car to it. Ultimately these issue led to my coming home one night around 2am and the car simply would not accelerate at all. I had to pull over and again call a tow truck. My mechanic tells me the the maf sensor is faulty, but the company handling the extended warranty wants to see the car orior to repairs being done. However, that means I am stuck waiting almost a week before repairs can even begin. Its very nerve racking having this issue on your vehicle. Its an intermittent problem that seems to creep up whenever it feels like it, I have to drive my car for work and I often keep late hours. I dont like the idea of breaking down at night in an area I am not familiar with having thid problem affects not only my and others safety but my overall well being and financial stability.
Driving down the road, the car enters a phase where you can not accelerate at all. It seems like the fuel injectors are cut off by 90% and you can only accelerate to about 35 mph. It stalls often and feels as if it's struggling to switch gears. It only has 68k miles on it with regular maintenance being done. It is too new to have these problems.
I purchased a 2024 Nissan Versa s 5 speed approx. Two months ago. Upon driving the first week, the engine would rev high in between shifting (not rev hang) and made the vehicle almost impossible to drive smooth. I have been driving manuals for 34 years. I planned on taking the car to the dealer to check when I had time. Then by week two to four, a rattle developed under the shifter adn center console. Lastly, the car went into limp mode for no reason and with no check engine light. I turned the car off and on again. The problem went away. I took the vehicle to the dealer 2. 5 weeks ago and haven't seen the car since. The head mechanic said the problem was a cam sensor and every time he fixed the problem, the car would do the same thing every morning. He also said Nissan was aware of this problem with the manual Versa, and the fix is to "wait". I since discovered I am not the only one and how dangerous this glitch it. Imagine trying to exit on the highway only to go into limp mode. I am scared to drive this car and will not put my family in this car now. I don't even have 3k on the odometer. They also can't find the cause of the loud rattling sound either.
Twice, when I have been backing up a hill I have stalled the vehicle. After each time I have re started the vehicle, but shortly realized that I could not accelerate past 40 mph. I can get the rpms up and shift through the gears but speed does not increase. There are no warning lights or anything on the dash. I was able to pull over and shut the vehicle off for around 15 minutes after which I started the vehicle and was able to drive normally. The service center at the dealership I purchased the car from said that no codes were found, and that they couldn't replicate the issue.
Total loss of power. No engine codes stored. Car has very little power you have to floor the gas pedal but still run ok no misses or backfires. Will take forever to get to 40 mph. That is revving motor before shifting manual transmission. Taken to Nissan dealer once no fix. This has happened about 8 times to this car. Dealer had for one week still could not fix it. Could get run over with this issue….
