1 Engine problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 03/05/2012

We brought our Nissan 2006 Xterra in to the boardwalk auto center. Redwood city, CA - Nissan to have them check on what we thought was another transmission issue (Nissan replaced the transmission, at their expense over $8000, once and the fuel gauge twice plus a couple of other recall items). When we picked up the car they told us we needed a new timing chain for about $2000 (we have heard these are not normal items to be replaced and should last the lifetime of the car). We can't believe there is yet another major expensive problem part with this car! when does this car become a lemon and how many major items are going to need to be replaced? what is happening to Nissan? has the timing chain issue been investigated and how many other people are having this problem?.

2 Engine problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 02/18/2010

My car would shut off everytime I went over a bump. The repair guy said it was the computer that went out in my care. Then 2 months later my engine went out and my catalytic converter. My vehicle almost stopped in the middle of the busy freeway.

3 Engine problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 04/15/2009

Noticed it the first time last night. I had just under a 1/4 tank of gas in my 2006 Nissan Xterra, and drove 15 miles and pulled over to use the phone. Left the engine running, and suddenly noticed the "service engine soon" light was lit, and the gas gauge read empty. Impossible, and illogical. Turned off the engine, turned back on. . . Same thing. Drove to gas station, filled up, made sure clicked the gas cap three times for proper seal. Gauge read that the gas tank was full, but the "service engine soon" light was still lit.

5 Engine problem of the 2000 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 06/12/2003

While driving at any speed vehicle would jerk, and the instrument panel would fail. While driving the vehicles gauges (tachometer, odometer, speedometer and temperature) randomly went out. This problem also appeared to affect the cruise control and occured at different speeds. When the gauges go out they stayed out from 3-20 miles.

6 Engine problem of the 2000 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 03/26/2003

At 5,000 miles pre warranty expiration my 2000 Nissan Xterra broke down while pulling out from a stop. After an investigation by Nissan, they've concluded that the crankshaft had broke and thus the engine would be rendered useless. They have also stated that they will not cover this under their warranty and will bill me for the new engine. They've said that the engine got sludge due to infrequent oil changes. After providing proof of regular oil changes Nissan says that they still will not cover the vehicle. These fraudulent accusations are an outrage and should be covered under Nissan's warranty. Furthermore, my rights as a consumer have been violated. After contacting NHTSA over the phone I discovered that their had been a recall on my vehicle and that the recall could have had some affect on the resulting problems concurred, I'm not sure as I was never contacted regarding any recall issue. Anyhow Nissan says that they will not cover my engine under their warranty. They are also trying to charge me for additional investigation fees that they've already billed me for to see if this could after all be an issue of warranty, so far the total concurred with no repairs is $420, with the added investigation it would be an additional $480, $1000 of worth of work with no repairs made! I'm refusing to pay any fees regarding this issue as it is not my obligation under Nissan's warranty. I will not be a scapegoat for a defective crankshaft or any other part causing this failure, as this is a breach in warranty. I'm prepared to pursue this issue to the fullest extant. Thank you for any help.
