36 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 09/07/2011

This morning the fuel level sensor on my 2005 Nissan Xterra stopped working as I was driving to work. The dealership wants $500 to fix the sensor which was a known problem and recalled on earlier models of this truck. And is also a common problem for other Xterra owners. Please recall this part. Fuel level sensors last much longer than this is other makes and models of vehicles.

37 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2003 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 09/02/2011

The car doesn't seem to be accelerating properly due to something wrong with the fuel system or gasoline delivery there is a vibrating sound and vibration coming from the gas pedal. And the gasoline smell is terrible. The gas pedal is very loose and I don't feel safe driving my car at this time.

38 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2008 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 09/01/2011

I have an 08 Nissan Xterra the vdc/slip/engine/tire pressure/ and air bag lights are on. The engine seems to be stalling at take off. The fuel indicator is no longer working and had made attempts to get this fixed and the dealership said it wasn't on my vehicle. I don't think the Nissan dealership is handling their responsibility to fix these vehicle. There is so much going wrong with my vehicle for it to be three years old. The engine stalling seems to be at low speeds and is potentially the most dangerous.

39 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 09/01/2011

The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Xterra. The contact stated that the check engine light would illuminate sporadically and the fuel gage would read inaccurately. The dealer diagnosed that the fuel sending unit was defective and would need to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted but denied any assistance with repair to the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 97,000 and the current mileage 98,000. Updated 11/29/11 the consumer stated a recall was issued for his make and model, but not the year, as well as other models. Updated 12/12/11.

40 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2000 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 08/27/2011

The vehicle stalled while idling. While idling car begins to vibrate, rpm drop down and ultimately car stalls. Leading up to this incident, when accelerating from a stop, when pressing on gas pedal, car does not engage and appears to die out; fortunately it catches and continues on. Thought it was isolated incident, however, this led to the idling problem. Took vehicle to mechanic, and he could not identify problem as no engine codes registered, and no obvious malfunction was present. This is a very dangerous situation, as car could stall out while moving. This needs to be addressed immediately before a stall occurs on the highway and someone gets hurt. A review of Nissan websites has reflected a persistent problem with this specific vehicle. The prevalence of this problem would logically lead to the conclusion that this is a design problem that should be investigated by Nissan and corrected; again before someone gets seriously hurt.

Failure Date: 06/20/2011

Fuel level sensor malfunctioning.

44 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2000 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 06/18/2011

Our 2000 Xterra had been fairly reliable until it died out on the highway. Replaced the distributor 3 months ago, and it died out again while driving, last week, after having yet another distributor put in. The mechanic suggested that the Nissan-issued re-built distributors are the problem. He's now putting a third one in, but he's getting it from a different source than Nissan. I was stunned to know that Nissan knows about this problem but still sells inferior parts. This is nothing to fool around with and I'm lucky that I didn't cause or get involved in an accident.

45 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 05/15/2011

Defective fuel level sensor, Nissan does cover this under warranty but only up to a 70,000 milage limit. If part is defective it should be replaced regardless of miles. I contacted Nissan directly and was told sorry, over mileage cannot help. This is a safety issue that could endanger occupants with inaccurate fuel amounts, I. E. Un-expectantly run out of fuel in the middle no-where or on the interstate. Does it become less safe with more miles, I would think not. Nissan should be made to make the repairs regardless of miles.

46 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2007 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 05/04/2011

The fuel gauge on my 2007 Nissan Xterra is giving wrong readings , causes engine light to come on and I have gotten stuck without gas twice . . I'm up for smog test in a couple months and because engine light is on due to this problem I'll not be able to get this car register in CA . This should be a recall !.

48 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 04/27/2011

I have a Xterra 2005, I have two friends that have the same car, same year. They received from Nissana latter that said, that the fuel gauge was faulty and that they need to ger it fixed, warranty was extended. Mine is not working. Called the dealer, they said I have no warranty, and it seems it is a problem with some Nissan models 2005 and -06.

49 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 04/03/2011

The fuel gauge is malfunctioning, I completely filled up the vehicle with gas started the engine and it still read empty. It took a couple of days to move up to showing full but now I have a check engine light. I researched this issue and many other Nissan owners are experiencing or have experienced this problem with their vehicle around 50,000 miles. This is an issue Nissan needs to take care of with so many people experiencing the same issue, it is obviously a defect in their manufacturing and is very pricey for the customer to fix!.

50 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 76,000 and the current mileage was 82,000.

51 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2007 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 03/04/2011

Got "check engine light" error code p0463 which is failed fuel sensorprevious generation of Nissan Xterras were recalled for this issue. Repair is ~$600. Vehicle has 67,000 miles. Level sensor now reads unreliably which is a hazard in the winter. Supposedly, the current generation of Xterras have the same issue but there is no recall. Nissan needs to stand behind their vehicles and take care of this issue with a real fix for this issue.

52 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 03/02/2011

I own a 2005 Nissan Xterra. My problem started with the fuel leveling system and my check engine light coming on. It was the fuel leveling sender. My fuel was not registering correctly at all. Next came stalling of my SUV. I would be driving and it would act as if it was running out of gas and cut off. That turn out to be the emc, in which I paid for but was reimburse because Nissan issued a recall for the emc. This did not fix the fuel leveling sender problem. A few months later, my SUV was having a "hard crank". It just did not want to turn over. It would stall while driving. I would just cut off. I took that to a dealership and they said it was the cam sensors. So, I had the cam sensors replaced and I had the fuel level sender replaced. It was recommended that I have a mult-point inspection, so I had everything with that replace. I spent a $1000, only for my check engine light to come back on the next day. I took it back to the dealership for them to tell me now it is the catalyst converters and both needs to be replace. The price for both parts alone was $1300. I do not understand why so many Xterra owners are having these types of problems and Nissan are not responsible for fixing them. They will offer an extended warranty after the fact, but by the time the problem occur a 2005 does not qualify for the extended warranty. The catalyst converters affects the clean air for your vehicle. This is a safety issue.

55 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 01/30/2011

I am now getting a p0643. Dealer passport Nissan quoted around $700 to fix plus another $350 for belt replacement. None of the other recalls am eligible for due to being out of warranty. 61 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 12/20/2010

Fuel gauge went inop at approx 90,000 miles. Nissan had extended the fuel gauge warranty to 72,000 which is ridiculous considering most Xterra's, pathfinders, and frontiers have this problem. This should be a recall, not a warranty extension. This is a safety issue. Running out of gas on the highway is dangerous.

62 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2007 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 12/05/2010

Fuel gauge failed to register after a fill-up - showed empty, check engine light came on shortly afterwards.

63 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

I drive a 2005 Nissan Xterra. The service engine light turned on after I filled my vehicle with gas and the gas gauge read empty.

66 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 10/20/2010

2005 Nissan Xterra fuel level sensor malfunction. Apparently its extremely common and Nissan isn't doing anything about it.

67 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2007 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 10/20/2010

The "check engine" light on my Xterra came on while driving. Borrowing an autopart stores computer, I found out my engine was showing error code p0463. After a little research I discovered that it meant my fuel level sensor was malfunctioning and that, while no real threat to my safety was posed other than possibly running out of gas by surprise, it seems this is a very common problem with Xterras and pathfinders.

68 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 10/05/2010

Service engine light came on and fuel gauge completely unreliable. Fuel gauge would read empty with full fuel and then change to various readings.

69 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2010 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 10/01/2010

I have a 2010 Nissan Xterra I bought in Aug 2010. I am constantly having to bring it into the dealership for repairswith same 3-4 issues. It now has apprx 8000 miles and needs a new set of tires which nisan is refussing to change. The gas gage is constantly not working, does not read properly, I finally had to proove it to them this past week after complaining numerous time and having them, replace the gas sensore one . The engine hesitates at apprx 4o miles an hour, one of these days I am afraid I will be hit from behind when I step on the gas and it does not go. I am dealing with corporate Nissan but the keep putting me off. I feel it has become a danger. The dealer says its up to Nissan, Nissan says its not them so I am stuck with bad tires on my new vehicle, they are gnereral tires. They have indemted dimples, side walls are wearing out and tread is wearing uneven. The first set was repealced around 3000-4000 miles. The engine hesitation and the gas sensor I am comstantly getting excuses for those issues. So far the tires have been replaced once and need to be replaced again I was told no, gas sensor needs to be replaced again that is to be done possibly in the future. What about my engine issue. I feel like I have a possible lemom? my truck is in the shop so much the dealership has a key to it. How do I fnd out if those tires are safe to drive on them? I can not have my life and the poeplewho drive with me in danger. I was told there was a recall on the sensor for the gas gage- that was replaced I still have issues. Obvious there is something wrong with my vehicle if they replaced the tires once and now 4000 miles later the new tires are bad again. The dealership said I might want to roate the tires every 3000 miles. All 4 tires had to be replaced and all 4 tires are going bad again.

70 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2007 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 09/30/2010

My 2007 Nissan Xterra (47,000miles) just stopped (no power when gas pedal is depressed) while on the freeway during a busy time. . . I had to try to get to the shoulder and was very dangerous. Luckily the cars around me were paying attention and a huge accident was avoided. After researching this on the net, apparently this is common with this vehicle and previous models(which were issued recalls). The fuel sending unit apparently has an issue where it stops sending fuel through to the engine, without any warning or notice. . . . This is life threatening and unacceptable. . This needs to be taken care of before people die at the hands of a faulty 20 dollar part. Please please forward this or add it to the many other complaints I hope are listed. . . And thank you. . So far I have accumulated towing bills, rental car bills, and now have to wait for the weekday until Nissan can "talk" to someone in the tech dept. . The dealerships need to be made aware of this issue and the owners need to be contacted immediately. . .
