Tank Assembly Problems of Nissan Xterra - part 1

Tl the contact owns a 2007 Nissan Xterra. The contact stated that the fuel gauge failed to operate properly with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact refilled the fuel tank however, the fuel gauge showed empty. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign number: 10v075000 (fuel system, gasoline) however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by a dealer or independent mechanic. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that recalls were VIN specific and the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was 90,000.

2008 Nissan Xterra. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle fuel gauge inaccuracy issues. The consumer stated she ran out of gas on the highway, even though the tank read a quarter tank remaining.

The contact owns a 2007 Nissan Xterra. The contact stated that while driving 35 mph, the vehicle stalled and the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact mentioned that the fuel gauge indicated that there was a quarter of fuel in the fuel tank and the vehicle was refueled. The vehicle remained indicating that there was a quarter of fuel in the tank and then indicated that the fuel tank was empty. The failure occurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel sending unit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 79,000 and the current mileage was 81,000.

The fuel hand gets to half a tank and suddenly goes to empty there for I am not able to track my fuel usage properly and this causes the service engine light to show the Nissan company will not fix my vehicle they say its out of warranty.

Fuel gauge does accurately display remaining fuel in tank and service engine light has come on.

One day after filling my tank with gas, the check engine light came on. After having the obd2 scanned I had an p0463 trouble code for the fuel level sending unit. The fuel level gauge stopped working after that and still does not give a correct reading. I never know how much gas is in the tank!.

The gas gauge goes from half full to empty and light comes on when the car is in idle. The gauge does not re-set until the tank is filled and drives for about 100 miles. I believe it is an issue with the sending unit. Is there are re-call?.

Apparently it has something to do with the fuel sending unit. A similar problem was found on the 2000-2004 Xterra models and a recall was performed when the vehicle would stop after not getting any fuel, posing a great danger. It seems that something in the unit is faulty and will corrode over time. There is a general consensus that everyone who is having the problem is experiencing the same thing after having the vehicle for over 2 yrs and with around 39k-49k. If this problem existed in previous models, and it was recalled, the 2005-2007 Xterras, frontiers, and pathfinders should get this fixed at no charge to the customer!! why wait for accidents and possible deaths, especially since the problem lies in an integral part of the vehicle. Cost of repair ranges from $300-600. ".

Recall for 2006 Xterra with manufacturer date of Jan-March. My manufacturer date of my vehicle is August but has the same fuel level sensor issue listed on the recall. This has caused me to dangerously run out of gas on an interstate causing hazardous conditions. Problem: fuel sensor indicates there is fuel in the tank when in fact it is empty. It either stays full or stays at half a tank. The service engine soon light comes on intermittently.

My 2007 Nissan Xterra, just passing the 50k, and now the service engine soon light on with code p0463. Seems that if I keep the fuel tank filled up above 1/4, then this problem will go away, but from time to time there's a malfunction of the fuel sensor.

At 4100 mile after filling the gas tank ses light came on and the fuel gauge was stuck on 1/4 tank this is a 2007 Nissan Xterra.

Service engine soon light comes on, have it checked and it shows engine code po 463 - fuel level sensor malfunction. Gas gauge moves up and down while driving and distance to empty displays -----, 0 or very low mile to empty even after pulling away from the pump with a full tank.

The fuel level indicator is very unreliable. Sometimes it reads full and other times it won't move from empty even though there's fuel in the tank. After doing some internet research on this problem I found that it's very common in the 2005 Xterras! why hasn't there been a recall on the faulty sensor?.

We ran out of gas with half a tank on the fuel gauge. In the middle of a funeral service. Not a fun day. Thank you Nissan for extending a warranty on the problem and not issuing a recall that everyone would find out about before running out of gas on the road.

Error code p0463, fuel sensor error. When the gas tank is full, the gauge registers empty (less then e actually) until some of the fuel is used and then the gauge registers accurately (I think).

The fuel level sensor is malfunctioning, it suddenly goes to empty at no particular level the fuel tank is actually at. My risk is to run out of gas in the middle of an emergency situation. My coworker has the same problem with his Xterra as well, it seems to be a factory defect for these cars. Someone needs to check this out as there might be many consumers affected by this issue.

My check engine son light came on, I went to autozone and I was told the error code stated fuel sending unit/sensor. I was told that Nissan recommends you keep a half a tank of gas in the tank. My Xterra guage is very unpredictable 90% of the time even when I fill the tank up the guage doesn't register, and it's stuck on e with the gas light on constantly, which has caused me a single mother of 3 to run out of gas twice. I have done some research and found that there was a voluntary recall, but I've been told that there wasn't. I also live in a city where there is emissions testing which I can't pass because of the check engine light, I cannot receive my vehicle tag, which means I can't work or drive. I would like this sensor replaced at no charge to me because as reading online there has been 53,000 people with the same issue. I would like to know what are my options and the next step I can take to get this resolved.

After re-fueling, the gas indicator drops below empty, and the check engine light turns on. After driving it ~100 miles, the fuel guage will then go to approximately the real fuel level (around 3/4 of a tank). After driving about another 100 miles the check engine light turns off. Every time I re-fuel, this problem occurs again. It makes it extremely difficult to tell how much gas I have left. I will never buy a Nissan again.

My 2006 Xterra had the p0463 code come up, with the 'service engine soon' light, and my fuel gauge not properly displaying what is actually in the fuel tank. The fuel gauge will drop to show empty when I fill the tank, other times it will slowly raise up to show full, but it can be all over the place. I use my trip odometer to know where I'm actually at for fuel. If this is a known on going issue with Xterra's, then there should be a mandatory recall. Your assistance with this would be greatly appreciated.

Error code p0463 - apparently due to a malfunctioning fuel level sensor and requiring substantial shop time to drop fuel tank and replace sensor/pump unit (not to mention part cost, which is not being supplied by manufacturer despite the known, widespread flaw).

The vehicle was taken to the dealer after routine maintenance and the contact was informed that the fuel sending unit failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 108,000.

After fueling my 2007 Xterra this morning the fuel gage only registered 1/4 tank full. A little later the service engine soon light came on.

I have a Nissan Xterra 2007. I decided to stop at a gas station to fill it up on a 1/2 tank of gas. Spent $40-$45 to fill it up. Drove about a 1/2 mile down the road and noticed that the fuel gage didn't change in position. So I pull the vehicle over and shut it down and let it sit for a few minutes before I decided to start it back up. When I did, there was no change in the needle's position and the ses light popped up. Whenever I fill the tank up or put any gas in the vehicle the needle goes from not moving, to empty, to where it should be after driving for a few miles and the ses light remains to be on. I went to a local garage and got read by a scan gauge and it gave me p0463 code which meant there is a fuel level malfunction. I called up a few garages including the dealer and they told me that the repair cost with parts and labor would be $500-$600. I did some researching if there has been any recalls and discovered that this has been a problem with older Xterra models that continues to be a problem with the newer ones. This should not be happening with vehicle that I have had for about 4 years with only 40k+ miles on it.

After filling tank with gas, the gas gauge sits on empty and does not register a full tank until a day or two later. Also, the yellow "empty tank" light comes on for the same duration of time. In addition, the "service engine soon" dashboard light comes on and does not go off until a day or two after the gauge has registered the supposed correct level of the tank.

2005 Nissan Xterra having gas gauge / service engine light issue. Po463 is the code which means the fuel sender/sensing unit is bad. This is clearly a faulty part issue on Nissan and there should be a recall. There are too many people having this same issue with their 2005 - 2007 Xterras, pathfinders, & frontiers. This is a hazard not knowing how much fuel is in your tank and it is a ridiculous to have to pay $600 to get this fixed when it is a faulty part issue.

The molded fuel tank shell deformed causing the fuel sender float arm to contact an embossment molded into the tank shell causing the instrument panel fuel gauge to show that the vehicle has fuel when the tank is empty.

I have a 2007 Nissan Xterra stopped in to gas station on a 1/4 tank to fill-up on 5/25/2011 put in $85. 00 worth. While driving I noticed my gas gauge was still reading 1/4 of a tank and then my indicator light came on stating service engine soon after driving a few milles the gas gauge slowly went back up to full however the service indicator light still stay on. I went to a service station and was told that the problem was the fuel sending unit sensor and to check with the Nissan dealer to see if this promlem would be covered under the warrenty. On 5/26/2011 called Nissan dealer service dept was told this was not covered due to the fact that my car had over 30k. Did some reseach online and found out that many of the 2005-07 Nissan's are having the same problem. Nissan had a recall for their 2000-2004 car's which had the same problem - I beleive this is a major problem and should be handled in the same manner the earlier models were handled by recall.

Service engine soon ligh comes. Tank is full and service light comes on and later showed light that tank empty. I went to auto part and they hook up machine to find out why and it showed that sensor for fuel is failing. Before I was able to disconect battery and light will go off but now light is permanent. The truck has 95,000 miles and I am very up set because it should be a recall.
