36 Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 05/04/2011

The contact owns a 2007 Nissan Xterra. The contact stated that he refueled his vehicle but the gas gauge displayed a quarter tank instead of full and the check engine lamp illuminated. The vehicle was taken to local mechanic who diagnosed that the fuel sending unit was defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted but he was unable to speak to a representative regarding the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 54,125.

37 Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 01/04/2011

Our fuel sensory went out on our Nissan Xterra shortly before we reached 100000 miles. Nissan is aware of the problem and sent a letter out for a warranty only. However, the warranty included 2006 Nissan Xterras with less than 72000 miles on them. When I did research I found that over 80000 2006 Nissan Xterras were affected by this. I contacted Nissan USA to have them resolve the issue of the fuel tank sensor and indicated I would like the defect fixed. They refused to fix it and indicated it would cost me a little over $400 to fix. I asked them for financial assistance since I do not have this to pay for the repair on top of my $433 a month a car payment. I recently had a baby and never know when my car is empty. The sensor no longer reads fuel levels and is constantly showing empty. I was up for emissions testing this year and can not pass emissions until the sensor has been replaced. I believe since this is such a wide spread issue that Nissan should recall the part. Just this week my vehicle ran out of gas according to my speedometor I had 100 miles left on the tank it misread and I was stuck with my sreaming 5 month old on the side on the road at night waiting for aaa to arrive . This wide spread problem needs to be addressed by Nissan and not just shoved to the side. Way to many vehicles are affected for this to remain a warranty issue only!!!!! I have see the stats listed here on NHTSA. Campaign id # 10v075000.

38 Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 11/08/2010

I drive a 2005 Nissan Xterra. The service engine light turned on after I filled my vehicle with gas and the gas gauge read 1/4 tank. The gauge slowly went up to 1/2 tank, but now I can't trust it.

39 Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 10/20/2010

This '05 Xterra had a thorough check out & diagnostic. Then 500 miles later, at around 46000 miles, when the fuel indicator was at 1/2 tank- the needle suddenly plunged to below empty, a light came on and the service engine soon light came on. This was all very alarming, and we were stuck in bumper-bumper traffic in a bad part of phoenix when it happened. It wasn't hot out, just a big traffic jam in 5:00 rush, and we were nowhere near a gas station. It was terrible, and we were very scared to be stranded. After that we bought a huge gas can, and just drove around with 10 gallons of gas just in case. That is terrible, to have to drive wondering if when you'll actually run out of gas, vs. Just being told you are out of gas. This started happening during the beginning of our cross-country trip to the coast and back. It was an issue the entire time, and very nerve wracking. Nissan should fix this, since I've returned from our trip and found that 100's of people are having exact same problem! this is a faulty part, and it makes me wonder what else will go wrong. This is the first Nissan our family has had, and I am afraid we might not be buying another one, and telling others to steer clear of Nissan.

40 Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 10/17/2010

The fuel sending unit on my 2005 Nissan Xterra failed at 50105 miles. This appears to be a common problem and it is under recall not for my year/VIN). This is a manufacturer's defect and Nissan should extend the recall to cover all 2005-2010 Xterras. Observed problem: 1. Service engine light 2. Code: p0463 3. Fuel gauge no longer working (filled tank showing half filled).

41 Tank Assembly problem of the 2004 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 10/08/2010

My 2004 Nissan Xterra has a rusted fuel tank. I always smell gas. Nissan corporate told me to bring it to a dealer. I brought it in to Nissan to confirm this and they said" its rusted and dangerous to drive" I called corporate and they said the will get in touch with me in 3 days, its been 2 weeks. A gas tank should not rot in 5 years(bought in 05) with 58,000. If the tech said I should not drive this truck then why is Nissan corp. Not getting back to me in a timely manner?.

42 Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 10/06/2010

Fuel sending unit level faulty. It is a pratically new and low milage car. The fuel level gauge is not accurate and I was running on an empty tank when it showed 1/2 a tank full. That led to my car running out of gas in the middle of the road late at night commuting home from work.

43 Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 10/01/2010

Fuel sending unit on 2006 Nissan Xterra fails intermittently when tank is low. The gauge will not move to full at gas station after filling--but does so gradually taking about a day or so. This has occurred twice when on vacation, when gas tank gets low (at home, we never let get below half). Nissan will not fix unless it is in failure or check engine light is on when you present @ dealer. Even when it fails, the check engine light does not come on.

44 Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 09/27/2010

Check engine soon light illuminated. Gas gauge inaccurate. Gas light illuminated when plenty of gas is still in tank. Dte feature no longer shows numbers only dashes. Only 66,000 miles on vehicle. This problem started around 64,000 miles.

45 Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 09/20/2010

I had 1/4 of a tank of gas and went to fill up. After filling up my gas tank, I turned on the car, at which point the needle did not register the full tank. After driving a couple miles, the check engine light came on. I went directly to the dealer and was told that it was a fuel sending unit/sensor and that it was no longer covered after 30k miles. After returning home and doing research, I went online to x. Nissanhelp. Com after performing a search, I came across many others who have experienced the same problem. Apparently it has something to do with the fuel sending unit. A similar problem was found on the 2000-2004 Xterra models and a recall was performed when the vehicle would stop after not getting any fuel, posing a great danger. It seems that something in the unit is faulty and will corrode over time. There is a general consensus that everyone who is having the problem is experiencing the same thing after having the vehicle for over 2 yrs and with around 39k-49k. If this problem existed in previous models, and it was recalled, the 2005-2007 Xterras, frontiers, and pathfinders should get this fixed at no charge to the customer!! cost of repair is $490.

46 Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 09/13/2010

Nissan is recalling certain model year 2006 and model year 2008 frontier, Xterra and pathfinder vehicles. The molded fuel tank shells can deform, causing the fuel sender. Float arm to contact an embossment molded into the tank shell causing the instrument panel fuel gauge to show that the vehicle has approximately one quarter tank when the fuel tank is empty. This has happened and been repaired 4 times on my 2006 Xterra without resolution.

47 Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 09/10/2010

2007 Nissan Xterra fuel sending unit failed to show fuel being used in the gas tank. Gauge stayed at half full for a couple of days then service engine soon light came on and gauge went to empty. I cant tell how much fuel is in the tank,I cant get an inspection sticker and the vehicle is out of warrenty. The problem has not been repaired yet because it will cost me at least $400. 00.

48 Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 09/06/2010

I had 1/4 of a tank of gas and went to fill up. After filling up my gas tank, I turned on the car, at which point the needle still registered a quarter tank. The check engine light came on. I checked the code and the fuel sending unit/sensor had high input. After coming home and doing research I find out that many people are having the same problem. This needs to be fixed and the customers shouldn't have to pay for something that was knowingly faulty from the company.

49 Tank Assembly problem of the 2004 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 08/28/2010

I smell gas inside the car, I took it to a shop and they told me the gas tank is all rusted on top, causing the gas to spill out. I called junk yards and all there tanks for the Nissan are also corroded. I called Nissan and they said there were no recalls. They said it is from living in a salt area. However no other makes or models that I have had ever did this. I was told to take it to a Nissan dealer for evaluation. Which I did but felt unsafe driving the car. I feel this should be a recall, please help. Thanks.

50 Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 08/25/2010

My Nissan 2007 Xterra has been experiencing problems with the fuel gauge. I first noticed in late August of 2010 my service e gine soon light (ses) come on and it was not until a few weeks later I took in my car and was told my fuel gauge was not working properly. I have been now doing research and have just learned that many others are experiencing the same problem as I am. My gauge will mark empty after I have filled up my tank and show a full tank at about 50 miles after I have filled up the tank. My gauge will also go on e when it is at 1/4 of a tank and even at a half tank never knowing exactly how much gas is in the tank. I also read online that the 2007 Xterras have a recall on the fuel system and I believe they should be replaced to anyone who is experiencing this problem free of charge. This is a serious matter and could end in accidents and possible deaths. Lets see if this happens and we all get it replaced as I also found this information online from a website. Dealers will replace the fuel level sending unit inside the fuel tank with a new one that has a modified float arm. This service will be performed free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin on or before March 22, 2010.

51 Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 08/11/2010

The instrument panel fuel gauge shows that the vehicle has approximately one quarter tank when the fuel tank is empty. Dealership to replace deformed molded fuel tank and the fuel sending unit. 2007 model is not covered by existing recall (NHTSA campaign id number: 10v075000 - 06 & 08 only).

52 Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 08/08/2010

On my 2005 Nissan Xterra the service light came on and my fuel tank always reads empty. Dealer states its a faulty fuel sensor but wont fix for free. I found online that this is a vary common problem and was directed to this site.

53 Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 08/01/2010

I have a 2005 Nissan Xterra that has an issue with the fuel sending unit. The gas gauge takes a long time to register that the tank is full and now the service engine light is on. I have read many forums where people with both the Xterra and pathfinder are having the same issue. They did a recall on the 2001-2003 Xterra for the same problem. How is this not a recall. This is an expense that owners should not have to bear as it is a very common problem. Consumers need help with this issue.

54 Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 07/31/2010

"I had 1/4 of a tank of gas and went to fill up. After filling up my gas tank, I turned on the car, at which point the needle did not register the full tank. Cost of repair ranges from $300-600. ".

55 Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 07/29/2010

I had less than 1/4 of a tank of gas, when the service engine soon light came on. On my way home, I stopped by auto zone and had the code checked. It came up with po463, which indicated the fuel sending sensor. I immediately stopped and filled up. The gauge appeared to go to full. Upon searching the internet I found this is a common problem and was recalled on several Nissan models between 2000-2004. I talked to the dealer, but since my 5 year warranty expired this month and I have 63,000 miles on my Xterra, the repair wouldn't be covered. The cost of repair would be around $600 - $700. I decided to just keep up with my mileage to make sure I don't run out of gas. Since then I have driven 270 miles. The service engine soon light went off around 200 miles, but I am still nervous that the unit is malfunctioning and it could reoccur. My complaint is that if this problem was recalled in previous models, and it was considered a safety hazard that could result in a major traffic accident, why isn't is being recalled on the 2005-2007 models?.

56 Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 07/29/2010

I fill my gas tank, the gauge falls to the bottom and the light comes on, then shortly the check engine soon light comes on it seems like there is a recall but only to a range of VIN's and unfortunately my car is not in this range. The NHTSA campaign id number is 10v075000. The symptoms are exactly the same as described in this camp. Id number.

57 Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 07/21/2010

1. I filled my gas tank, then as I was driving down the highway. 2. The check engine light came on and my tank reads as empty and the ses light is on, even though a full tank. 3. Nissan has a recall on my type and year of vehicle for this exact problem (fuel system). But my VIN does not qualify for the recall; even though the exact year and type is the same as the recall. I had to have the fuel level sending unit replaced.

58 Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 07/14/2010

The fuel sensor/sending unit on my 2005 Nissan Xterra has failed and now my gas gauge does not register a full tank and my service engine light remains on. This is apparently an extremely expensive and common failure for the Xterra and this same part was recalled on the 2004 model.

59 Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 07/10/2010

When fuel gauge reaches half a tank then the needle goes all the way down indicating there is not gas and the light goes on. The dte goes from couple of hundred miles left to zero. It happen everytime the needle reaches half a tank.

60 Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 07/03/2010

2005 Nissan Xterra. Gas gauge works sporadically, never know how much gas is in tank. Could cause an accident by running out of gas. There is a recall on Nissan vehicles for 2006 and 2008 with the same problem but all from 2005 to 2010 are having the same problem.

61 Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 06/30/2010

The following recall is identical to symptoms I observe with my 2005 Nissan x-terra, since 10/2008: recall #38731: Nissan is recalling certain model year 2006 and model year 2008 frontier, Xterra and pathfinder vehicles. The molded fuel tank shells can deform, causing the fuel sender float arm to contact an embossment molded into the tank shell causing the instrument panel fuel gauge to show that the vehicle has approximately one quarter tank when the fuel tank is empty.

62 Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 06/25/2010

Nissan Xterra 2005 -- faulty fuel sensor, fuel gauge does not report gas in tank.

63 Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 06/20/2010

The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Xterra. The fuel sensor failed and does not give an accurate measure of the fuel that is in the fuel tank. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic where they replaced the fuel sensor at his expense for $375. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that they would not reimburse him for the repair since the VIN was not a part of the recall. The failure mileage was 30,000. Updated 11/03/10 updated 11/04/jb.

64 Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 06/16/2010

2006 Nissan Xterra fuel gauge displays incorrect readings, I have extended warranty and there is a recall but my vehicle is not on the list. I have taken to dealer but they claim nothing is wrong with it. Except when I drive vehicle gas gauge goes from quarter tank to empty then back to quarter tank.

65 Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 06/11/2010

I have a 2005 Nissan Xterra 4x4. Just recently I filled up my gas tank to full, but when I looked at my fuel gauge it just stayed at the half mark. It took a couple of hours before it climbed to full. My mileage was at 44,950 miles when this first occurred. It is still happening everytime I have to fill my gas tank. I keep filling at half because I'm afraid I will run out of gas on the freeway. I've noticed some other 2005 Xterra owners had the same problem. They should have a recall on this because of their malfunctioning part. I called Nissan about this but they told me my car was not covered because my car VIN# was not under it.

66 Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 06/07/2010

My 2005 Nissan Xterra se has approximately 73,000 miles on it, and the fsu (fuel sending unit) has stopped working. In other words, the gas gauge does not read accurately. For example, yesterday I filled the tank, and the gas gauge reads anywhere from a quarter-tank to a half-tank (changes sporadically). Nissan has issued a recall for this issue for some 2006 and 2008 models, but from my online research, this issue seems to be occurring with other model years. The vehicle was significantly redesigned with the 2005 model, and subsequent years have seen only minor updates to this redesign. So it stands to reason that the recall should be expanded to include 2005 models, when everything was redesigned. Clearly, not knowing how much gas you have in the tank is a safety issue, as one could end up running out of gas on the freeway, or out in a rural area at night, or some other unsafe scenario.

67 Tank Assembly problem of the 2003 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 06/01/2010

When fueling my 2003 Nissan Xterra gas unexpected back washes out of the fuel filler. I was covered in gas along with the vehicle and surrounding ground. A recall was for the 2001 Nissan Xterra for the identical problem. I would like the recall to cover the 2003 Nissan Xterra. The problem and part failure is identical in both cases. The failing part is the fuel tank inlet shutter valve.

68 Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 06/01/2010

2006 Nissan fuel gauge shows that the vehicle has one quarter tank when the fuel tank could actually be empty.

69 Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 05/20/2010

On or about may 20, 2010 I had 1/4 tank of gas and went to fill up. After filling up the gas tank, I turned on the truck and the gas needle did not register as being full. The service engine light came on. I drove about 70 miles and it finally went up to the full mark, but the "ses" light did not go out. About a week later, when I filled the gas tank, I turned the engine on and the needle went to below the "e" mark and the reserve light came on as well as the "ses" light. I took the truck to the Nissan dealer and was told that it was the fuel sending unit/sensor and that it would cost about $400 to repair. I was also informed at that time that there is a nation wide backorder on the part that is needed and they had no idea when the part would be in stock. I was also told that there has been a recall for this problem but it does not include my year of vehicle. I own a 2007 Xterra with aprox. 38,000 miles.

70 Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 05/19/2010

Noticed fuel gauge sticking at current level when filling tank about last three fill ups. On my 2005 Nissan Xterra. Filled it up tonight and drove home 1/2 mile pulled into the drive way and noticed check engine light on. Used my obdii tester and got a code p0463 fuel level sensor circuit high input. I looked this up on the internet and found countless people with the same issue on Nissan Xterras and pathfinders. I also found the bad info on just what is involved in fixing this issue. I understand that this is not a life issue unless you run out of gas on the way to the emergency room. Or the emergency response team is in a Nissan ect. Its hard to believe that this is not a recall item.
